Linus Torvalds 5ad18b2e60 Merge branch 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman:
 "A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
  task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
  task.

  The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
  such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
  fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.

  Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
  force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
  abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
  have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.

  This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and
  carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends
  making this kind of error almost impossible in the future"

Eric W. Biederman 3cf5d076fb signal: Remove task parameter from force_sig
All of the remaining callers pass current into force_sig so
remove the task parameter to make this obvious and to make
misuse more difficult in the future.

This also makes it clear force_sig passes current into force_sig_info.

Linus Torvalds 96d4f267e4 Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() function
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.

It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access.  But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.

A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model.  And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.

This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.

There were a couple of notable cases:

 - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.

 - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
   values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
   really used it)

 - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout

but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.

I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something.  Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

Ingo Molnar 68db0cf106 sched/headers: Prepare for new header dependencies before moving code to <linux/sched/task_stack.h>
We are going to split <linux/sched/task_stack.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which
will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files.

Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/task_stack.h> file that just
maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and
bisectable.

Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

Al Viro 7798bf2140 arc: don't leak bits of kernel stack into coredump
On faulting sigreturn we do get SIGSEGV, all right, but anything
we'd put into pt_regs could end up in the coredump.  And since
__copy_from_user() never zeroed on arc, we'd better bugger off
on its failure without copying random uninitialized bits of
kernel stack into pt_regs...

Vineet Gupta 6ffb9c8c5f ARC: Make way for pt_regs != user_regs_struct
These have been register compatible so far. However ARCv2 mandates
different pt_regs layout (due to h/w auto save). To keep pt_regs same
for both, we start by removing the assumption - used mainly for block
copies between the 2 structs in signal handling and ptrace

Vineet Gupta e4140819da ARC: signal handling robustify
A malicious signal handler / restorer can DOS the system by fudging the
user regs saved on stack, causing weird things such as sigreturn returning
to user mode PC but cpu state still being kernel mode....

Ensure that in sigreturn path status32 always has U bit; any other bogosity
(gargbage PC etc) will be taken care of by normal user mode exceptions mechanisms.

Reproducer signal handler:

Vineet Gupta 6914e1e3f6 ARC: SA_SIGINFO ucontext regs off-by-one
The regfile provided to SA_SIGINFO signal handler as ucontext was off by
one due to pt_regs gutter cleanups in 2013.

Before handling signal, user pt_regs are copied onto user_regs_struct and copied
back later. Both structs are binary compatible. This was all fine until
commit 2fa919045b (ARC: pt_regs update #2) which removed the empty stack slot
at top of pt_regs (corresponding to first pad) and made the corresponding
fixup in struct user_regs_struct (the pad in there was moved out of
@scratch - not removed altogether as it is part of ptrace ABI)

This meant that now user_regs_struct was off by 1 reg w.r.t pt_regs and
signal code needs to user_regs_struct.scratch to reflect it as pt_regs,
which is what this commit does.

This problem was hidden for 2 years, because both save/restore, despite
using wrong location, were using the same location. Only an interim
inspection (reproducer below) exposed the issue.

Andy Lutomirski f56141e3e2 all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_struct
If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting
the restart block is a very juicy exploit target.  This is because the
restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack.

Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by
making the restart_block harder to locate.

Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy
targets, at least on some architectures.

It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less
identical on all architectures.

Christian Ruppert 10469350e3 ARC: Fix signal frame management for SA_SIGINFO
Previously, when a signal was registered with SA_SIGINFO, parameters 2
and 3 of the signal handler were written to registers r1 and r2 before
the register set was saved. This led to corruption of these two
registers after returning from the signal handler (the wrong values were
restored).
With this patch, registers are now saved before any parameters are
passed, thus maintaining the processor state from before signal entry.

Vineet Gupta 55bb9480f9 ARC: [Review] Prevent incorrect syscall restarts
Per Al Viro's "signals for dummies" https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/12/6/366
there are 3 golden rules for (not) restarting syscalls:

"	What we need to guarantee is
* restarts do not happen on signals caught in interrupts or exceptions
* restarts do not happen on signals caught in sigreturn()
* restart should happen only once, even if we get through do_signal()
  many times."

ARC Port already handled #1, this patch fixes #2 and #3.

We use the additional state in pt_regs->orig_r8 to ckh if restarting
has already been done once.

* Tracer poke to Callee-regs were lost

  Before going off into do_signal( ) we save the user-mode callee regs
  (as they are not saved by default as part of pt_regs). This is to make
  sure that that a Tracer (if tracing related signal) is able to do likes
  of PEEKUSR(callee-reg).

  However in return path we were simply discarding the user-mode callee
  regs, which would break a POKEUSR(callee-reg) from a tracer.

* Issue related to multiple syscall restarts are addressed in next patch
