For some reason, every single time I try to run module_reload
something tries to read the connector sysfs files. This happens
after we destroy the encoders and before we destroy the connectors, so
when the sysfs read triggers the connector detect() function,
intel_conector->encoder points to memory that was already freed.

struct drm_mode_display now has a separate crtc_ version of the clock to
be used when we're talking about the timings given to the harwadre (was
far as the mode is concerned).
This commit is really the result of a git grep adjusted_mode.*clock and
replacing those by adjusted_mode.crtc_clock. No functional change.

We currently treat the child_device_config as a simple struct, but
this is not correct: new BDB versions change the meaning of some
offsets, so the struct needs to be adjusted for each version.
Since there are too many changes (today we're in version 170!), making
a big versioned union would be too complicated, so child_device_config
is now a union of 3 things: (i) a "raw" byte array that's safe to use
anywhere; (ii) an "old" structure that's the one we've been using and
should be safe to keep in the SDVO and TV code; and (iii) a "common"
structure that should contain only fields that are common for all the
known VBT versions.

The native TV encoder has it's own flags to adjust sync modes and
enabled interlaced modes which are totally irrelevant for the adjusted
mode. This worked out nicely since the input modes used by both the
load detect code and reported in the ->get_modes callbacks all have no
flags set, and we also don't fill out any of them in the ->get_config
callback.
This changed with the additional sanitation done with

drm/i915: make user mode sync polarity setting explicit
sinc now the "no flags at all" state wouldn't fit through core code
any more. So fix this up again by explicitly clearing the flags in the
->compute_config callback.
Aside: We have zero checking in place to make sure that the requested
mode is indeed the right input mode we want for the selected TV mode.
So we'll happily fall over if userspace tries to pull us. But that's
definitely work for a different patch series. So just add a FIXME
comment for now.

Try to decypher detection failures is a little tricker at the moment as
the only indicator of progress is when output_poll_execute() tells us
the result after the connector->detect() has run. This patch adds a
telltale to the start of each detect function so that we can track
progress and associate activity more clearly with each connector.

Only lvds/tv did actually check for cloning or not, but many more
places should.
Notices because my ivb tried to enable both cpu edp and vga on the
first crtc - the resulting confusion between has_pch_encoder,
has_dp_encoder but not actually being a pch dp encoder resulting in
hilarity (hitting a BUG).
We _really_ need an igt to random-walk our modeset space more
exhaustively.
The bug seems to have been exposed due to a race in the hw load
detection support for VGA: Right after a hotplug VGA was still
detected as connected, but obviously reading the EDID wasn't possible
any more. Hence why restarting X a bit later fixed things. Due to the
1024x756 fallback resolution suddenly more outputs had the same
resolution.
On top of that SNA was confused with the possible_clones mask, trying
to clone outputs which cannot be cloned. That bug is now fixed with

When an encoder is shared on several connectors there is only
one hotplug line, thus this line needs to be shared among these
connectors.
If HPD detect only works reliably on a subset of those connectors,
we want to poll the others. Thus we need to make sure that storm
detection doesn't mess up the settings for those connectors.
Therefore we store the settings in the intel_connector struct and
restore them from there.
If nothing is set but the encoder has a hpd_pin set we assume this
connector is hotplug capable.
On init/reset we make sure the polled state of the connectors
is (re)set to the default value, the HPD interrupts are marked
enabled.

- gen4 and earlier (save for g4x) only really have a 8bpc pipe, with
the possibility to dither to 6bpc using the panel fitter
- g4x has hdmi, but no 12 bpc pipe ... !? Clamp hdmi accordingly.
- TV/SDVO out are the only connectors available on platforms with
a pipe bpp != 8, add code to force the pipe to 8bpc unconditionally.

The dither handling on gmch platforms is one giant disaster. I'm hoping
somewhat that vlv enabling will fix this up, but given that the 6bpc
handling for edp was simply added with another quick hack, I don't have
high hopes ...

Remove redundant DRM UAPI header #inclusions from drivers/gpu/.
Remove redundant #inclusions of core DRM UAPI headers (drm.h, drm_mode.h and
drm_sarea.h). They are now #included via drmP.h and drm_crtc.h via a preceding
patch.
Without this patch and the patch to make include the UAPI headers from the core
headers, after the UAPI split, the DRM C sources cannot find these UAPI headers
because the DRM code relies on specific -I flags to make #include "..." work
on headers in include/drm/ - but that does not work after the UAPI split without
adding more -I flags.

Together with the static helper functions drm_crtc_prepare_encoders
and drm_encoder_disable (which will be simplified in the next patch,
but for now are 1:1 copies). Again, no changes beside new names for
these functions.
Also call our new set_mode instead of the crtc helper one now in all
the places we've done so far.
v2: Call the function just intel_set_mode to better differentia it
from intel_crtc_mode_set which really only does the ->mode_set step of
the entire modeset sequence on one crtc. Whereas this function does
the global change.

Intel hw only has one MUX for encoders, so outputs are either not
cloneable or all in the same group of cloneable outputs. This neatly
simplifies the code and allows us to ditch some ugly if cascades in
the dp and hdmi init code (well, we need these if cascades for other
stuff still, but that can be taken care of in follow-up patches).
Note that this changes two things:
- dvo can now be cloned with sdvo, but dvo is gen2 whereas sdvo is
gen3+, so no problem. Note that the old code had a bug and didn't
allow cloning crt with dvo (but only the other way round).
- sdvo-lvds can now be cloned with sdvo-non-tv. Spec says this won't
work, but the only reason I've found is that you can't use the
panel-fitter (used for lvds upscaling) with anything else. But we
don't use the panel fitter for sdvo-lvds. Imo this part of Bspec is
a) rather confusing b) mostly as a guideline to implementors (i.e.
explicitly stating what is already implicit from the spec, without
always going into the details of why). So I think we can ignore this
- worst case we'll get a bug report from a user with with sdvo-lvds
and sdvo-tmds and have to add that special case back in.
Because sdvo lvds is a bit special explain in comments why sdvo LVDS
outputs can be cloned, but native LVDS and eDP can't be cloned - we
use the panel fitter for the later, but not for sdvo.
Note that this also uncoditionally initializes the panel_vdd work used
by eDP. Trying to be clever doesn't buy us anything (but strange bugs)
and this way we can kill the is_edp check.

drm/i915: fixup overlay checks for interlaced modes
the only places we actually need the crtc timings is in the mode_set
function.
I guess the idea of the drm core is that every time it creates a drm
mode, it also sets the timings. But afaics it never uses them, safe
for the precise vblank timestamp code (but that can only run on active
modes, i.e. after our mode_fixup functions have been called). The
problem is that drm core always sets CRTC_INTERLACE_HALVE_V, so the
timings are pretty much bogus for us anyway (at least with interlaced
support).
So I guess it's the drivers job that every active modes needs to have
crtc timings that suits it, and with these patches we should have
that. drm core doesn't seem to care about modes that just get passed
around. Hence we can now safely rip out all the remaining calls to
set_crtcinfo left in the driver and clean up this confusion.

This reverts commmit d4b74bf078 which
reverted the origin fix fb8b5a39b6.
We have at least 3 different bug reports that this fixes things and no
indication what is exactly wrong with this. So try again.
To make matters slightly more fun, the commit itself was cc: stable
whereas the revert has not been.
According to Peter Clifton he discussed this with Zhao Yakui and this
seems to be in contradiction of the GM45 PRM, but rumours have it that
this is how the BIOS does it ... let's see.

We have a pretty decent confusion about vertical timings of interlaced
modes. Peter Ross has written a patch that makes interlace modes work
on a lot more platforms/output combinations by doubling the vertical
timings.
The issue with that patch is that core drm _does_ support specifying
whether we want these vertical timings in fields or frames, we just
haven't managed to consistently use this facility. The relavant
function is drm_mode_set_crtcinfo, which fills in the crtc timing
information.
The first thing to note is that the drm core keeps interlaced modes in
frames, but displays modelines in fields. So when the crtc modeset
helper copies over the mode into adjusted_mode it will already contain
vertical timings in half-frames. The result is that the fixup code in
intel_crtc_mode_fixup doesn't actually do anything (in most cases at
least).
Now gen3+ natively supports interlaced modes and wants the vertical
timings in frames. Which is what sdvo already fixes up, at least under
some conditions.
There are a few other place that demand vertical timings in fields
but never actually deal with interlaced modes, so use frame timings
for consistency, too. These are:
- lvds panel,
- dvo encoders - dvo is the only way gen2 could support interlaced
mode, but currently we don't support any encoders that do.
- tv out - despite that the tv dac sends out an interlaced signal it
expects a progressive mode pipe configuration.
All these encoders enforce progressive modes by resetting
interlace_allowed.
Hence we always want crtc vertical timings in frames. Enforce this in
our crtc mode_fixup function and rip out any redudant timing
computations from the encoders' mode_fixup function.

TV Out refresh rate was half of the specification for almost all modes.
Due to this reason pixel clock was so low for some modes causing flickering screen.

The tidy ups in 7f58aabc36 ("drm/i915:
cleanup per-pipe reg usage") changed intel_crtc->plane to intel_crtc->pipe in
intel_tv_mode_set(). This caused the screen to quickly turn off before
returning whenever modesetting/mode probing took place on my 915GM EeePC
900 creating a flickering effect. This patch changes intel_crtc->pipe back
to intel_crtc->plane which solves the problem for me.

As a probe for a TV connection modifies the TV_CTL register, it causes a
loss of sync and a regular glitch on the output. This is highly
undesirable when using the TV, so only poll for TV connections and wait
for an explicit query for detecting the disconnection event.

During detect() we would probe the connection bits to determine if
there was a TV attached, and what video input type (Component, S-Video,
Composite, etc) to use. However, we promptly discarded this vital bit of
information and never propagated it to where it was used to determine
the correct modes and setup the control registers. Fix it!
This fixes a regression from 7b334fcb45.

The documentation recommends that we should use a polling method for TV
detection as this is more power efficient than the interrupt based
mechanism (as the encoder can be completely switched off). A secondary
effect is that leaving the hotplug enabled seems to be causing pipe
underruns as reported by Hugh Dickins on his Crestline.

Destructive load-detection is very expensive and due to failings
elsewhere can trigger system wide stalls of up to 600ms. A simple
first step to correcting this is not to invoke such an expensive
and destructive load-detection operation automatically.

Waiting for a hard coded 20ms isn't always enough to make sure a vblank
period has actually occurred, so add code to make sure we really have
passed through a vblank period (or that the pipe is off when disabling).
This prevents problems with mode setting and link training, and seems to
fix a bug like https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29278, but
on an HP 8440p instead. Hopefully also fixes
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29141.

NUM_TV_MODES is the same as ARRAY_SIZE(tv_modes). In the end, I
decided it was cleaner to remove NUM_TV_MODES and just use
ARRAY_SIZE(tv_modes) through out.

This was brought over from UMS, and used for a while until we decided
that drm_helper_resume_force_mode was easier and more reliable, since
it didn't require duplicating all the code deleted here. We just
forgot to delete all that junk for a while.
In load detection, connector's encoder assignment must be kept
consistent for proper mode setting, and this makes connector as
explicit parameter for load detect function to not require single
data structure to hold both encoder and connector reference, ease
the transition for splitted encoder/connector model.

The TV detection logic is not reliable on the Cantiga platform.
Sometimes the TV will be misdetected as the following two cases:
- TV is misdetected on some laptops. e.g. There is no TV connector
port or no TV is attached. But the TV is shown as connected.
- TV connector type is misdetected. e.g. the component TV is
attached, but the TV is shown as S-video type.
According to the hardware requirement, the TV sense state bits of TV DAC
register should be cleared to zero on Cantiga platfrom.

The intel_output naming is inherited from the UMS code, which had a
structure of screen -> CRTC -> output. The DRM code has an additional
notion of encoder/connector, so the structure is screen -> CRTC ->
encoder -> connector. This is a useful structure for SDVO encoders
which can support multiple connectors (each of which requires
different programming in the one encoder and could be connected to
different CRTCs), or for DVI-I, where multiple encoders feed into the
connector for whether it's used for digital or analog. Most of our
code is encoder-related, so transition it to talking about encoders
before we start trying to distinguish connectors.
This patch is produced by sed s/intel_output/intel_encoder/ over the
driver.

This patch changes around our hotplug enable code a bit to only enable
it for ports we actually detect and initialize. This prevents problems
with stuck or spurious interrupts on outputs that aren't actually wired
up, and is generally more correct.

As of 559ee21d26 the actual refresh rate
is returned by the function of drm_mode_vrefresh, so multiply the refresh
rate by 1000 in TV mode validation.
At the same time the error is expanded from 10 to 1000.

For integrated TV there are 3 connector types: S-VIDEO, Composite and
Component(YprPb). Those tv formats whose component flag is true should
be assigned to Component connector, others are for S-VIDEO and Composite.
The patch intends to find appropriate tv format for each connector.
In such case it will return the correct modeline to user space. Otherwise
it will return the incorrect modeline when S-video/composite is connected.

Based on Bspec each encoder has different sharing pipe property,
i.e. Integrated or SDVO TV both will occupy one pipe exclusively,
and sdvo-non-tv and crt are allowed to share one. The patch moves
sharing judgment into differnet output functions, and sets the right
clone bit.
This fixes both HDMI outputs choosing the same pipe.

NTSC, PAL and 480p, 1280x720 for 720p, 1920x1080 for 1080i/p

We used load_detect_temp flag to determine whether to set tv to the test
mode. However if the TV already has a mode set, we still need to set the
test mode to determine connection. This results in blinking, but there is
no other reliable way to determine TV connection.

We detect TV connect status by setting DAC voltage level override
values as 0.7 voltage for DAC_A/B/C. The corresponding 2-bits shold be 0x2,
In order correctly to set last bit as 0, at first we must clean it.

Making the drm_crtc.c code recognize the DPMS property and invoke the
connector->dpms function doesn't remove any capability from the driver while
reducing code duplication.
That just highlighted the problem with the existing DPMS functions which
could turn off the connector, but failed to turn off any relevant crtcs. The
new drm_helper_connector_dpms function manages all of that, using the
drm_helper-specific crtc and encoder dpms functions, automatically computing
the appropriate DPMS level for each object in the system.
This fixes the current troubles in the i915 driver which left PLLs, pipes
and planes running while in DPMS_OFF mode or even while they were unused.

The get_modes hook must return the number of modes added. This also fixes
TV mode's clock calculation int overflow issue, and use 0.01 precision for
mode refresh validation.

The C99 specification states in section 6.11.5:
The placement of a storage-class specifier other than at the beginning
of the declaration specifiers in a declaration is an obsolescent
feature.
