Seraj Alijan 13396a130f dmaengine: dmatest: Add transfer_size parameter
Existing transfer size "len" is either generated randomly or set to the
size of test_buf_size. In some cases we need to explicitly specify a
transfer size that is different from the buffer size and non aligned to
test the target device's ability to handle unaligned transfers.

This patch adds optional parameter "transfer_size" to allow setting
explicit transfer size for dma transfers.

Add parameter "alignment" to allow setting the address alignment
manually. Having the ability to configure address alignment from

Seraj Alijan d53513d5dc dmaengine: dmatest: Add support for multi channel testing
Add support for running tests on multiple channels simultaneously as the
driver currently limits to 1 channel per test run. This will add support
for stress testing DMA controllers with multi channel capabilities.

This is done by adding a callback function to the "channel" parameter
that registers the requested channel prior to the "run" parameter being
set to 1. Each time the "channel" parameter is populated with a new
dma channel, a new test is appended to the thread queue. Once the "run"
parameter is set to 1, the test will kick start all pending threads.

Bin Liu 59861547ec dmaengine: cppi41: delete channel from pending list when stop channel
The driver defines three states for a cppi channel.
- idle: .chan_busy == 0 && not in .pending list
- pending: .chan_busy == 0 && in .pending list
- busy: .chan_busy == 1 && not in .pending list

There are cases in which the cppi channel could be in the pending state
when cppi41_dma_issue_pending() is called after cppi41_runtime_suspend()
is called.

cppi41_stop_chan() has a bug for these cases to set channels to idle state.
It only checks the .chan_busy flag, but not the .pending list, then later
when cppi41_runtime_resume() is called the channels in .pending list will
be transitioned to busy state.

Removing channels from the .pending list solves the problem.

Lucas Stach b8603d2a57 dmaengine: imx-sdma: implement channel termination via worker
The dmaengine documentation states that device_terminate_all may be
asynchronous and need not wait for the active transfers to stop.

This allows us to move most of the functionality currently implemented
in the sdma channel termination function to run in a worker, outside
of any atomic context. Moving this out of atomic context has two
benefits: we can now sleep while waiting for the channel to terminate,
instead of busy waiting and the freeing of the dma descriptors happens
with IRQs enabled, getting rid of a warning in the dma mapping code.

As the termination is now async, we need to implement the
device_synchronize dma engine function which simply waits for the
worker to finish its execution.

Lucas Stach ebb853b1bd Revert "dmaengine: imx-sdma: alloclate bd memory from dma pool"
This reverts commit fe5b85c656. The SDMA engine needs the descriptors to
be contiguous in memory. As the dma pool API is only able to provide a
single descriptor per alloc invocation there is no guarantee that multiple
descriptors satisfy this requirement. Also the code in question is broken
as it only allocates memory for a single descriptor, without looking at the
number of descriptors required for the transfer, leading to out-of-bounds
accesses when the descriptors are written.

Geert Uytterhoeven a19788612f dmaengine: sh: Remove R-Mobile APE6 support
Renesas R-Mobile APE6 support is currently unused:
  - DMA slaves were never enabled in r8a73a4.dtsi,
  - The driver relies on legacy filter matching and describing all

    similar hardware like rcar-dmac,
  - The driver doesn't seem to work well.

Remove the driver, it can be resurrected from git history when needed.

As this was the last user of SH_DMAE_BASE on Renesas ARM SoCs, the

Then, in at_dma_xlate(), atslave was allocated with devm_kzalloc() and

Christian Lamparter 7b0c03ecc4 dmaengine: dw-dmac: implement dma protection control setting
This patch adds a new device-tree property that allows to
specify the dma protection control bits for the all of the
DMA controller's channel uniformly.

Setting the "correct" bits can have a huge impact on the
PPC460EX and APM82181 that use this DMA engine in combination
with a DesignWare' SATA-II core (sata_dwc_460ex driver).

|It seems your patch unleashed the full power of the SATA port.
|Where I was previously hitting a really hard limit at around
|82 MB/s for reading and 27 MB/s for writing, I am now getting this:
|
|root@OpenWrt:/mnt# time dd if=/dev/zero of=tempfile bs=1M count=1024
|1024+0 records in
|1024+0 records out
|real    0m 13.65s

|1024+0 records in
|1024+0 records out
|real    0m 8.41s
|user    0m 0.01s
|sys     0m 4.70s
|
|This means: 121 MB/s reading and 75 MB/s writing!
|
|The drive is a WD Green WD10EARX taken from an older MBL Single.
|I repeated the test a few times with even larger files to rule out
|any caching, I'm still seeing the same great performance. OpenWrt is
|now completely on par with the original MBL firmware's performance.

Another user And.short reported:
|I can report that your fix worked! Boots up fine with two
|drives even with more partitions, and no more reboot on
|concurrent disk access!

A closer look into the sata_dwc_460ex code revealed that
the driver did initally set the correct protection control
bits. However, this feature was lost when the sata_dwc_460ex
driver was converted to the generic DMA driver framework.

Nathan Chancellor aeaebcc17c dmaengine: xilinx_dma: Remove __aligned attribute on zynqmp_dma_desc_ll

1 warning generated.

As Nick pointed out in the previous version of this patch, the author
likely intended for this struct to be 8-byte (64-bit) aligned, not
64-byte, which is the default. Remove the hanging __aligned attribute.

	spin_unlock_bh(&ioat_chan->prep_lock);

According to the synchronization rule for the del_timer_sync() function,
the caller must not hold locks which would prevent completion of the
timer's handler.

The timer structure has its own lock that manages its synchronization.
Setting the IOAT_CHAN_DOWN bit should prevent other CPUs from
trying to use that device anyway, there is probably no need to call
del_timer_sync() while holding the prep_lock. So the del_timer_sync()
call is now moved outside of the prep_lock critical section to prevent
the circular lock dependency.

Daniel Silsby 83ef4fb755 dmaengine: dma-jz4780: Further residue status fix
Func jz4780_dma_desc_residue() expects the index to the next hw
descriptor as its last parameter. Caller func jz4780_dma_tx_status(),
however, applied modulus before passing it. When the current hw
descriptor was last in the list, the index passed became zero.

The resulting excess of reported residue especially caused problems
with cyclic DMA transfer clients, i.e. ALSA AIC audio output, which
rely on this for determining current DMA location within buffer.

Combined with the recent and related residue-reporting fixes, spurious
ALSA audio underruns on jz4770 hardware are now fixed.

Paul Cercueil 5eed7d84bc dmaengine: dma-jz4780: Use 4-word descriptors
The only information we use in the 8-word version of the hardware DMA
descriptor that is not present in the 4-word version is the transfer
type, aka. the ID of the source or recipient device.

Since the transfer type will never change for a DMA channel in use,
we can just set it once for all in the corresponding DMA register
before starting any transfer.

This has several benefits:

* the driver will handle twice as many hardware DMA descriptors;

* the driver is closer to support the JZ4740, which only supports 4-word
  hardware DMA descriptors;

* the JZ4770 SoC needs the transfer type to be set in the corresponding

Paul Cercueil 33633583a2 dmaengine: dma-jz4780: Separate chan/ctrl registers
The register area of the JZ4780 DMA core can be split into different
sections for different purposes:

* one set of registers is used to perform actions at the DMA core level,
that will generally affect all channels;

* one set of registers per DMA channel, to perform actions at the DMA
channel level, that will only affect the channel in question.

The problem rises when trying to support new versions of the JZ47xx
Ingenic SoC. For instance, the JZ4770 has two DMA cores, each one
with six DMA channels, and the register sets are interleaved:
<DMA0 chan regs> <DMA1 chan regs> <DMA0 ctrl regs> <DMA1 ctrl regs>

By using one memory resource for the channel-specific registers and
one memory resource for the core-specific registers, we can support
the JZ4770, by initializing the driver once per DMA core with different
addresses.

The ColdFire edma module is slightly different from fsl-edma,
so a new driver is added. But most of the code is common
between fsl-edma and mcf-edma so it has been collected into a
separate common module fsl-edma-common (patch 1/3).

Hans de Goede 5658f4f94c dmaengine: dw: Add alternative ACPI HIDs for Cherry Trail DMA controllers
Bay and Cherry Trail DSTDs represent a different set of devices depending
on which OS the device think it is booting. One set of decices for Windows
and another set of devices for Android which targets the Android-x86 Linux
kernel fork (which e.g. used to have its own display driver instead of
using the i915 driver).

Which set of devices we are actually going to get is out of our control,
this is controlled by the ACPI OSID variable, which gets either set through
an EFI setup option, or sometimes is autodetected. So we need to support
both.

This commit adds support for the 80862286 and 808622C0 ACPI HIDs which we
get for the first resp. second DMA controller on Cherry Trail devices when
OSID is set to Android.

Linus Torvalds d5acba26bf Char/Misc driver patches for 4.19-rc1
Here is the bit set of char/misc drivers for 4.19-rc1

 There is a lot here, much more than normal, seems like everyone is
 writing new driver subsystems these days... Anyway, major things here
 are:
 	- new FSI driver subsystem, yet-another-powerpc low-level
 	  hardware bus
 	- gnss, finally an in-kernel GPS subsystem to try to tame all of
 	  the crazy out-of-tree drivers that have been floating around
 	  for years, combined with some really hacky userspace
 	  implementations. This is only for GNSS receivers, but you
 	  have to start somewhere, and this is great to see.
 Other than that, there are new slimbus drivers, new coresight drivers,
 new fpga drivers, and loads of DT bindings for all of these and existing
 drivers.

 Full details of everything is in the shortlog.

 All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

Yoshihiro Shimoda 218c21043d dmaengine: sh: rcar-dmac: Should not stop the DMAC by rcar_dmac_sync_tcr()
rcar_dmac_chan_get_residue() should not stop the DMAC, because
the commit 538603c602 ("dmaengine: sh: rcar-dmac: avoid to write
CHCR.TE to 1 if TCR is set to 0") had fixed unexpected re-transferring
issue. But it had caused the next issue which might stop the cyclic
mode transferring. Thus, for example R-Car sound might be stopped
suddenly.

According to the commit 73a47bd0da ("dmaengine: rcar-dmac: use TCRB
instead of TCR for residue"), the purpose of clearing CHCR.DE bit is
flushing buffered data to calculate the exact residue.

Such the "exact" residue had been required by sh-sci driver. sh-sci
driver is calling dmaengine_pause() to stop transferring, and get
"exact" residue. Otherwise, it might receive extra data during
getting residue without pausing.

In rx_timer_fn() of sh-sci driver:
	dmaengine_tx_status();		/* For checking roughly */
 	dmaengine_pause();
	dmaengine_tx_status();		/* For getting residue */
	dmaengine_terminate_all();

But, unfortunately the rcar-dmac driver didn't support dmaengine_pause()
at that time. So, the sh-sci driver cannot get the "exact" residue
without stopping the transferring, because rcar-dmac is buffering data
inside.

Because of these backgrounds, rcar-dmac had been cleared/set CHCR.DE
bit in rcar_dmac_chan_get_residue() to synchronizing data and getting
"exact" residue.

However, rcar-dmac driver has rcar_dmac_chan_pause() now, and clearing
CHCR.DE bit in rcar_dmac_chan_get_residue() doesn't need anymore.
So, this patch removes the rcar_dmac_sync_tcr().

John Keeping e49756544a dmaengine: pl330: fix irq race with terminate_all
In pl330_update() when checking if a channel has been aborted, the
channel's lock is not taken, only the overall pl330_dmac lock. But in
pl330_terminate_all() the aborted flag (req_running==-1) is set under
the channel lock and not the pl330_dmac lock.

With threaded interrupts, this leads to a potential race:

Yoshihiro Shimoda 538603c602 dmaengine: sh: rcar-dmac: avoid to write CHCR.TE to 1 if TCR is set to 0
This patch fixes an issue that unexpected retransfering happens
if TCR is set to 0 before rcar_dmac_sync_tcr() writes DE bit to
the CHCR register. For example, sh-sci driver can reproduce this
issue like below:

 In rx_timer_fn(): /* CHCR DE bit may be set to 1 */
  dmaengine_tx_status()
   rcar_dmac_tx_status()
    rcar_dmac_chan_get_residue()
     rcar_dmac_sync_tcr()	/* TCR is possible to be set to 0 */

Marek Szyprowski d8095f94e1 dmaengine: add support for reporting pause and resume separately
'cmd_pause' DMA channel capability means that respective DMA engine
supports both pausing and resuming given DMA channel. However, in some
cases it is important to know if DMA channel can be paused without the
need to resume it. This is a typical requirement for proper residue
reading on transfer timeout in UART drivers. There are also some DMA
engines with limited hardware, which doesn't really support resuming.

Reporting pause and resume capabilities separately allows UART drivers to
properly check for the really required capabilities and operate in DMA
mode also in systems with limited DMA hardware. On the other hand drivers,
which rely on full channel suspend/resume support, should now check for
both 'pause' and 'resume' features.

Existing clients of dma_get_slave_caps() have been checked and the only
driver which rely on proper channel resuming is soc-generic-dmaengine-pcm
driver, which has been updated to check the newly added capability.
Existing 'cmd_pause' now only indicates that DMA engine support pausing
given DMA channel.

rcar_dmac_stop_all_chan() takes the channel lock while stopping a
channel, but does not disable interrupts, leading to a deadlock when a
DMAC interrupt comes in. Before, the same code block was called from an
interrupt handler, hence taking the spinlock was sufficient.

Fix this by disabling local interrupts while taking the spinlock.

Robin Gong 57b772b868 dmaengine: imx-sdma: add virt-dma support
The legacy sdma driver has below limitations or drawbacks:
  1. Hardcode the max BDs number as "PAGE_SIZE / sizeof(*)", and alloc
     one page size for one channel regardless of only few BDs needed
     most time. But in few cases, the max PAGE_SIZE maybe not enough.
  2. One SDMA channel can't stop immediatley once channel disabled which
     means SDMA interrupt may come in after this channel terminated.There
     are some patches for this corner case such as commit "2746e2c389f9",
     but not cover non-cyclic.

The common virt-dma overcomes the above limitations. It can alloc bd
dynamically and free bd once this tx transfer done. No memory wasted or
maximum limititation here, only depends on how many memory can be requested
from kernel. For No.2, such issue can be workaround by checking if there
is available descript("sdmac->desc") now once the unwanted interrupt
coming. At last the common virt-dma is easier for sdma driver maintain.

Sascha Hauer 76c33d2707 dmaengine: imx-sdma: factor out a struct sdma_desc from struct sdma_channel
This is a preparation step to make the adding of virt-dma easier.
We create a struct sdma_desc, move some fields from struct sdma_channel
there and add a pointer from the former to the latter. For now we
allocate the data statically in struct sdma_channel, but with
virt-dma support it will be dynamically allocated.

Kuninori Morimoto 9203dbec90 dmaengine: rcar-dmac: don't use DMAC error interrupt

Janusz Krzysztofik c9bd0946da dmaengine: ti: omap-dma: Fix OMAP1510 incorrect residue_granularity
Commit 0198d7bb8a ("ASoC: omap-mcbsp: Convert to use the sdma-pcm
instead of omap-pcm") resulted in broken audio playback on OMAP1510
(discovered on Amstrad Delta).

When running on OMAP1510, omap-pcm used to obtain DMA offset from
snd_dmaengine_pcm_pointer_no_residue() based on DMA interrupt triggered
software calculations instead of snd_dmaengine_pcm_pointer() which
depended on residue value calculated from omap_dma_get_src_pos().
Similar code path is still available in now used
sound/soc/soc-generic-dmaengine-pcm.c but it is not triggered.

It was verified already before that omap_get_dma_src_pos() from
arch/arm/plat-omap/dma.c didn't work correctly for OMAP1510 - see
commit 1bdd741991 ("ASoC: OMAP: fix OMAP1510 broken PCM pointer
callback") for details. Apparently the same applies to its successor,
omap_dma_get_src_pos() from drivers/dma/ti/omap-dma.c.

On the other hand, snd_dmaengine_pcm_pointer_no_residue() is described
as depreciated and discouraged for use in new drivers because of its
unreliable accuracy. However, it seems the only working option for
OPAM1510 now, as long as a software calculated residue is not
implemented as OMAP1510 fallback in omap-dma.

Using snd_dmaengine_pcm_pointer_no_residue() code path instead of
snd_dmaengine_pcm_pointer() in sound/soc/soc-generic-dmaengine-pcm.c
can be triggered in two ways:
- by passing pcm->flags |= SND_DMAENGINE_PCM_FLAG_NO_RESIDUE from
  sound/soc/omap/sdma-pcm.c,
- by passing dma_caps.residue_granularity =
  DMA_RESIDUE_GRANULARITY_DESCRIPTOR from DMA engine.

Let's do the latter.
