Stefan Schmidt bdc7873727 ieee802154/atusb: Add function for partial register writes
With this function we can set individual bits in the registers if needed.
With the old SR_VALUE macro we could only set one bit in the register
which was ok for some scenarios but not for all. With this subreg write
function we can now set more bits defined by the mask while not touching
the rest.

We start using it for the current SR_VALUE use case and will use it more
in upcoming patches.

Alexander Aring 7490b008d1 ieee802154: add support for atusb transceiver
This patch adds support for the atusb transceiver.

The current driver supports basic functionality only. Possible further
tasks would be to sync functionality with the at86rf230 driver, because
the atusb use internally an at86rf231 transceiver. Some of these
features need a firmware update like AACK and ARET handling.

I did small changes to this driver to work with xmit_async callback and

Alexander Aring edea8f7c75 cfg802154: introduce wpan phy flags
This patch introduce a flag property for the wpan phy structure.
The current flag settings in ieee802154_hw are accessable in mac802154
layer only which is okay for flags which indicates MAC handling which
are done by phy. For real PHY layer settings like cca mode, transmit
power, cca energy detection level.

The difference between these flags are that the MAC handling flags are
only handled in mac802154/HardMac layer e.g. on an interface up. The phy
settings are direct netlink calls from nl802154 into the driver layer
and the nl802154 need to have a chance to check if the driver supports
this handling before sending to the next layer.

We also check now on PHY flags while dumping and setting pib attributes.
In comparing with MIB attributes the 802.15.4 gives us an default value
which we assume when a transceiver implement less functionality. In case
of MIB settings the nl802154 layer doesn't need to check on the
ieee802154_hw flags then.

Brad Campbell f0b7d43c8a cc2520: Add support for CC2591 amplifier.
The TI CC2521 is an RF power amplifier that is designed to interface
with the CC2520. Conveniently, it directly interfaces with the CC2520
and does not require any pins to be connected to a
microcontroller/processor. Adding a CC2591 increases the CC2520's range,
which is useful for border router and other wall-powered applications.

Using the CC2591 with the CC2520 requires configuring the CC2520 GPIOs
that are connected to the CC2591 to correctly set the CC2591 into TX and
RX modes. Further, TI recommends that the CC2520_TXPOWER and
CC2520_AGCCTRL1 registers are set differently to maximize the CC2591's
performance. These settings are covered in TI Application Note AN065.

This patch adds an optional `amplified` field to the cc2520 entry in the
device tree. If present, the CC2520 will be configured to operate with a
CC2591.

The expected pin mapping is:
CC2520 GPIO0 --> CC2591 EN
CC2520 GPIO5 --> CC2591 PAEN

Alexander Aring d907c4f05c at86rf230: fix at86rf230_read_subreg succeed handling
This patch fix an issue when at86rf230_read_subreg was successful. The
function at86rf230_read_subreg will directly call regmap_read which
returns zero on successful. Nobody figured out issues yet because it was
only necessary to evaluate dvdd state while probing. This could make
trouble because the stack variable could have an random value.

The function is also used by reset the irq line before requesting irq, but
the value isn't evaluated afterwards.

Alexander Aring dce481e63d at86rf230: add support for calibration timeout
This patch adds a handling for calibration if we are 5 minutes in PLL
state. I first tried to implement the calibration functionality in
TX_ON state via register values CF_START and DCU_START, but this occurs
a one second delay at each calibration time.

An another solution to start a calibration is to switch from TRX_OFF
state into TX_ON, then a calibration is done automatically by
transceiver. This method will be used in this patch, after each transmit
of a frame we check with jiffies if the PLL is set 5 minutes without
doing a TRX_OFF->(TX_ON || RX_AACK_ON) or channel switch. The worst case
would be a transceiver in receiving mode only, but this is under normal
operation very unlikely.

In the most cases the spi messages has a length of two. Currently we
always set the the len field to two before transmit a spi message. In
cases for read out/write in the frame buffer we need another len. This
patch use trx len two as default. For the frame buffer cases we restore
the trx len to two on success and failure. This will reduce the len

Alexander Aring ba6d223932 at86rf230: add transmit retry support
This patch introduce a transmit retry handling into at86rf230 transmit
path. Current behaviour is to wait the normal receive time if we want
to go into STATE_TX_ON when the transceiver is in STATE_BUSY_RX_AACK
which indicates that a frame is currently receiving. A non force state
change will not interrupt the the receiving state.

The current behaviour is that after the normal receive time we will
start a force change into STATE_TX_ON. With this patch we do seven
retries to go into STATE_TX_ON without forcing. After we hit the
AT86RF2XX_MAX_TX_RETRIES we will start the force state change.
This is a polling like method to go into STATE_TX_ON in times of maximum
receiving time.

Alexander Aring 61f2dcba9a mac802154: add interframe spacing time handling
This patch adds a new interframe spacing time handling into mac802154
layer. Interframe spacing time is a time period between each transmit.
This patch adds a high resolution timer into mac802154 and starts on
xmit complete with corresponding interframe spacing expire time if
ifs_handling is true. We make it variable because it depends if
interframe spacing time is handled by transceiver or mac802154. At the
timer complete function we wake the netdev queue again. This avoids
new frame transmit in range of interframe spacing time.

For synced driver we add no handling of interframe spacing time. This
is currently a lack of support in all synced xmit drivers. I suppose
it's working because the latency of workqueue which is needed to call

Alexander Aring 1d15d6b5b9 at86rf230: rework transmit and receive handling
This patch is a complete reimplementation of transmit and receive
handling for the at86rf230 driver.

It solves also six bugs:

First:

The RX_SAFE_MODE is enabled and the transceiver doesn't leave the
receive state while the framebuffer isn't read by a CMD_FB command.
This is useful to read out the frame and don't get into another receive
or transmit state, otherwise the frame would be overwritten.
The current driver do twice CMD_FB calls, the first one leaves this
protection.

Second:

Sometimes the CRC calculation is correct and the length field is greater
127. The current mac802154 layer and filter of a at86rf2xx doesn't check
on this and the kernel crashes. In this case the frame is corrupted, we
send the whole receive buffer to the next layer which can be useful for
sniffing.

Thrid:
There is a undocumented race condition. When we are go into the
RX_AACK_ON state the transceiver could be changed into RX_AACK_BUSY
state. This is a normal behaviour. In this case the transceiver received
a SHR while assert wasn't finished.

Fourth:
It also handle some more "correct" state changes. In aret mode the
transceiver need to go to TX_ON before the transceiver go into
RX_AACK_ON.

Fifth:
The programming model [0] describes also a error handling in ARET mode
if the trac status is different than zero. This is patch adds support
for handling this.

Sixth:
In receive handling the transceiver should also get the trac status
according [0]. The driver could use the trac status as error statistic
handling, but the driver doesn't use this currently. There is maybe some
timing behaviour or the read of this register change some transceiver
states.

In addition the irqworker is removed. Instead we do async spi calls and
no scheduling is involved anymore. The transmit function is also
asynchron but with a wait_for_completion handling. The mac802154 layer
doesn't support asynchron transmit handling right now.

The state change behaviour is now changes, before it was:

1. assert while(!STATE_TRANSITION_IN_PROGRESS)
2. state change
3. assert while(!STATE_TRANSITION_IN_PROGRESS)
4. assert once(wanted state != current state)

Sometimes a unexcepted state change occurs when 4. assert was violated.
The new state change behaviour is:

1. assert while(!STATE_TRANSITION_IN_PROGRESS)
2. state change
3. wait state change timing according datasheet
4. assert once(wanted state != current state)

This behaviour is described in the at86rf231 software programming model [0].
The state change documentation in this programming guide should also valid for
at86rf212 and at86rf233 chips.

The transceiver don't do a FORCE_TX_ON while we want to transmit a PDU.
The new behaviour is a TX_ON and wait a receiving time (tFrame + tPAck).
If we are still in RX_AACK_BUSY then we transmit a FORCE_TX_ON as timeout
handling. The different is that FORCE_TX_ON aborts receiving and TX_ON
waits if RX_AACK_BUSY is finished. This should decrease the drop rate of
packets.

This patch adds new mac802154 hw flags for transmit power, csma and

Phoebe Buckheister 363c2cd657 at86rf230: fix irq setup
Commit 8eba0eefae ("at86rf230: remove irq_type in
request_irq") removed the trigger configuration when requesting an irq,
and instead relied on the interrupt trigger to be properly configured
already. This does not seem to be an assumption that can be safely made,
since boards disable all interrupt triggers on boot.

On these boards, force the irq to trigger on rising edge, which is also
the default for the chip.

Phoebe Buckheister 376b7bd355 ieee802154: rename struct ieee802154_addr to *_sa
The struct as currently defined uses host byte order for some fields,
and most big endian/EUI display byte order for other fields. Inside the
stack, endianness should ideally match network byte order where possible
to minimize the number of byteswaps done in critical paths, but this
patch does not address this; it is only preparatory.

The rf233 and rf231 are sufficiently similar that we can treat
rf233 like rf231.

rf233 is missing some features that rf231 has, but we don't currently

Should we add support in the future for rf231 *_NOCLK or SLEEP states,

Jean Sacren 677676cd58 ieee802154: fix at86rf212_set_txpower() exit path
The commit 9b2777d608 ("ieee802154: add TX power control to
wpan_phy") introduced the new function at86rf212_set_txpower() with
the questionable check of the return of __at86rf230_write() in the
exit path:

1) Both at86rf212_set_txpower() and __at86rf230_write() have the
   same return type.

2) Whatever __at86rf230_write() returns becomes the return value of
   at86rf212_set_txpower().

Thus, fix the exit path by getting rid of that check entirely.

The commit 8fad346f36 ("eee802154: add basic support for RF212 to

minor issues in declaration:

1) Fix the function type by changing it to bool as the function

2) Fix the function specifier by deleting the inline keyword as the

Phoebe Buckheister f2fdd67c6b ieee802154: enable smart transmitter features of RF212
This patch does multiple things:

 * add .set_csma_params and .set_frame_retries for the RF212 radio.
This should work fine with RF230, but since I have no RF230 radios to
test with, RF230 does not implement these right now
 * enable TX_ARET for frame retransmission limits greater than -1

Since RF230 has no operations to change CSMA parameters or frame retry
limits, RF230 will not be able to enter TX_ARET with this patch.

Phoebe Buckheister 7dcbd22a97 ieee802154: ensure that first RF212 state comes from TRX_OFF
A documented erratum of the RF212 chip describes that some versions of
RF212 may not be properly reset by the standard reset procedure. The
described workaround seems to not fully work either; my RF212 chips will
not correctly receive any frames unless they are taken from RX mode to
TRX_OFF and back to RX mode, effectively forcing a up-down-up-cycle.
Going to TRX_OFF and to RX without intermediate state changes at least
once fixes this.

The same transition is allowed for RF230, so simply do it all the time.

Phoebe Buckheister 6ca001978d ieee802154: add support for setting CCA energy detection levels
Since three of the four clear channel assesment modes make use of energy
detection, provide an API to set the energy detection threshold.
Driver support for this is available in at86rf230 for the RF212 chips.
Since for these chips the minimal energy detection threshold depends on
page and channel used, add a field to struct at86rf230_local that stores
the minimal threshold. Actual ED thresholds are configured as offsets
from this value.

For RF212, setting the ED threshold will not work before a channel/page
has been set due to the dependency of energy detection in the chip and
the actual channel/page selected.

Phoebe Buckheister 9b2777d608 ieee802154: add TX power control to wpan_phy
Replace the current u8 transmit_power in wpan_phy with s8 transmit_power.
The u8 field contained the actual tx power and a tolerance field,
which no physical radio every used. Adjust sysfs entries to keep
compatibility with userspace, give tolerances of +-1dB statically there.

This patch only adds support for this in the at86rf230 driver and the

but does the job - the RF212 datasheet gives a large table with
suggested values for combinations of TX power and page/channel, if this
does not work well, we might have to copy the whole table.

Phoebe Buckheister 5b520bbb53 ieee802154: default to AACK in at86rf230
The current IEEE802.15.4 stack assumes that a radio will never deliver
packets with a bad CRC into the stack, as required by the standard.
at86rf230 driven radios violates this assumption because of another
incompatibility: devices are required to send ACKs if requested by a
sender, but RF2xx will only send ACKs from a special receive mode that
is currently not used by the driver.

Enable this receive mode to fix both bugs. Frames with bad CRCs will not
be received at all, and ACKs will be sent if so requested.

Phoebe Buckheister 8fad346f36 ieee802154: add basic support for RF212 to at86rf230 driver
Since the AT86RF2xy chips are mostly compatible, this is only a small
change to the actual driver code. The at86rf230 driver already supports the
RF212 in most places, only three small adjustments are required:

 * force the initial state after P_ON to FORCE_TRX_OFF to work around a

 * channels_supported depends on the frequency of the transceiver, and
   thus is_rf212
 * do early detection of chip version select an appropriate _ops struct
