Adrian Bunk 03502faa25 remove Documentation/smp.txt
After seeing the filename I'd have expected something about the
implementation of SMP in the Linux kernel - not some notes on kernel
configuration and building trivialities noone would search at this
place.

Mathieu Desnoyers 125e564582 Move Kconfig.instrumentation to arch/Kconfig and init/Kconfig
Move the instrumentation Kconfig to

arch/Kconfig for architecture dependent options
  - oprofile
  - kprobes

and

init/Kconfig for architecture independent options
  - profiling
  - markers

Remove the "Instrumentation Support" menu. Everything moves to "General setup".
Delete the kernel/Kconfig.instrumentation file.

Mathieu Desnoyers 3f550096de Add HAVE_KPROBES
Linus:

On the per-architecture side, I do think it would be better to *not* have
internal architecture knowledge in a generic file, and as such a line like

        depends on X86_32 || IA64 || PPC || S390 || SPARC64 || X86_64 || AVR32

really shouldn't exist in a file like kernel/Kconfig.instrumentation.

It would be much better to do

        depends on ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES

in that generic file, and then architectures that do support it would just
have a

        bool ARCH_SUPPORTS_KPROBES
                default y

in *their* architecture files. That would seem to be much more logical,
and is readable both for arch maintainers *and* for people who have no
clue - and don't care - about which architecture is supposed to support
which interface...

Changelog:

Actually, I know I gave this as the magic incantation, but now that I see
it, I realize that I should have told you to just use

        config KPROBES_SUPPORT
                def_bool y

instead, which is a bit denser.

We seem to use both kinds of syntax for these things, but this is really
what "def_bool" is there for...

- Use HAVE_KPROBES
- Use a select

- Yet another update :
Moving to HAVE_* now.

- Update ARM for kprobes support.

travis@sgi.com 3afc620229 SPARC64: use generic percpu
Sparc64 has a way of providing the base address for the per cpu area of the
currently executing processor in a global register.

Sparc64 also provides a way to calculate the address of a per cpu area

Nick Piggin 95c354fe9f spinlock: lockbreak cleanup
The break_lock data structure and code for spinlocks is quite nasty.
Not only does it double the size of a spinlock but it changes locking to
a potentially less optimal trylock.

Put all of that under CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK, and introduce a
__raw_spin_is_contended that uses the lock data itself to determine whether
there are waiters on the lock, to be used if CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK is
not set.

Rename need_lockbreak to spin_needbreak, make it use spin_is_contended to
decouple it from the spinlock implementation, and make it typesafe (rwlocks
do not have any need_lockbreak sites -- why do they even get bloated up
with that break_lock then?).

David S. Miller 8f361453d8 [SPARC64]: Fix two kernel linear mapping setup bugs.
This was caught and identified by Greg Onufer.

Since we setup the 256M/4M bitmap table after taking over the trap
table, it's possible for some 4M mapping to get loaded in the TLB
beforhand which later will be 256M mappings.

This can cause illegal TLB multiple-match conditions. Fix this by
setting up the bitmap before we take over the trap table.

Next, __flush_tlb_all() was not doing anything on hypervisor
platforms. Fix by adding sun4v_mmu_demap_all() and calling it.

Sam Ravnborg 1d3e07f7d0 [SPARC64]: small Makefile cleanups
A few trivial Makefile cleanups
- dependencipes in head.o was all wrong - deleted
- CMODEL_CFLAG was not used anywhere
- NEW_GCC was then not used outside sparc64/Makefe - do not export it
- FIXME seems not appropriate - all other put oprofile in drivers-y too
- No reason to do -I. (and it still builds)

David S. Miller 8d57d3ad0c [SPARC64]: Stop using __do_IRQ().
Invoke the desc->handle_irq directly in the top-level dispatch,
just like other sophisticated ports.

This will allow us to decrease the cost of the MSI queue dispatch.

Mathieu Desnoyers 09cadedbdc Combine instrumentation menus in kernel/Kconfig.instrumentation
Quoting Randy:

"It seems sad that this patch sources Kconfig.marker, a 7-line file,
20-something times. Yes, you (we) don't want to put those 7 lines into
20-something different files, so sourcing is the right thing.

However, what you did for avr32 seems more on the right track to me: make
_one_ Instrumentation support menu that includes PROFILING, OPROFILE, KPROBES,
and MARKERS and then use (source) that in all of the arches."

Alexey Dobriyan 19c5870c0e Use helpers to obtain task pid in printks (arch code)
One of the easiest things to isolate is the pid printed in kernel log.
There was a patch, that made this for arch-independent code, this one makes
so for arch/xxx files.

It took some time to cross-compile it, but hopefully these are all the
printks in arch code.
