Felipe F. Tonello 7ea9fde760 usb: gadget: f_midi: defaults buflen sizes to 512
512 is the value used by wMaxPacketSize, as specified by the USB Spec. This
makes sure this driver uses, by default, the most optimal value for IN and OUT
endpoint requests.

Binyamin Sharet 63196e9896 usb: gadget: fix check in sync read from ep in gadgetfs
When reading synchronously from a non-zero endpoint, gadgetfs will
return -EFAULT even if the read succeeds, due to a bad check of the
copy_to_iter() return value.

This fix compares the return value of copy_to_iter to the amount of
bytes that was passed, and only fails if they are not the same.

Michal Nazarewicz f78bbcae86 usb: f_mass_storage: test whether thread is running before starting another
When binding the function to usb_configuration, check whether the thread
is running before starting another one. Without that, when function
instance is added to multiple configurations, fsg_bing starts multiple
threads with all but the latest one being forgotten by the driver. This
leads to obvious thread leaks, possible lockups when trying to halt the
machine and possible more issues.

This fixes issues with legacy/multi¹ gadget as well as configfs gadgets
when mass_storage function is added to multiple configurations.

This change also simplifies API since the legacy gadgets no longer need
to worry about starting the thread by themselves (which was where bug
in legacy/multi was in the first place).

N.B., this patch doesn’t address adding single mass_storage function
instance to a single configuration twice. Thankfully, there’s no
legitimate reason for such setup plus, if I’m not mistaken, configfs
gadget doesn’t even allow it to be expressed.

¹ I have no example failure though. Conclusion that legacy/multi has
  a bug is based purely on me reading the code.

Kirill A. Shutemov 09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_get() -> get_page();

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Marek Szyprowski 175f712119 usb: gadget: provide interface for legacy gadgets to get UDC name
Since commit 855ed04a37 ("usb: gadget:

drivers can not assume that UDC drivers are already available on their
initialization. This broke the HACK, which was used in gadgetfs driver,
to get UDC controller name. This patch removes this hack and replaces it
by additional function in the UDC core (which is usefully only for legacy
drivers, please don't use it in the new code).

  And with common code in place, new configfs attributes can be added
  easier than ever before.

  Note, there are further improvements in-flight from other folks for
  v4.5 code in configfs land, plus number of target fixes for post -rc1
  code"

In the meantime, a new user of the now-removed old configfs API came in
through the char/misc tree in commit 7bd1d4093c ("stm class: Introduce
an abstraction for System Trace Module devices").

This merge resolution comes from Alexander Shishkin, who updated his stm
class tracing abstraction to account for the removal of the old
show_attribute and store_attribute methods in commit 517982229f
("configfs: remove old API") from this pull. As Alexander says about
that patch:

 "There's no need to keep an extra wrapper structure per item and the
  awkward show_attribute/store_attribute item ops are no longer needed.

  This patch converts policy code to the new api, all the while making
  the code quite a bit smaller and easier on the eyes.

  Signed-off-by: Alexander Shishkin <alexander.shishkin@linux.intel.com>"

That patch was folded into the merge so that the tree should be fully
bisectable.

Christoph Hellwig 2eafd72939 target: use per-attribute show and store methods
This also allows to remove the target-specific old configfs macros, and
gets rid of the target_core_fabric_configfs.h header which only had one
function declaration left that could be moved to a better place.

Robert Baldyga 5cd22f80bc usb: gadget: legacy: tcm: eliminate abuse of ep->driver data
Since ep->driver_data is not used for endpoint claiming, neither for
enabled/disabled state storing, we can reduce number of places where
we read or modify it's value, as now it has no particular meaning for
function or framework logic.

In case of tcm, ep->driver_data was used only for endpoint claiming so
we can simplify code by reducing it. We also remove give_back_ep()
function which is not needed after all - when error code is returned
from bind() function, composite will release all endpoints anyway.

Robert Baldyga adab43396e usb: gadget: remove gadget_chips.h
This header file contains helpers for quirks based on UDC controller name.
Since we have generic quirk bitfields in usb_gadget structure for all of
these quirks we don't need to have this header any longer.

This patch removes gadget_chips.h file and makes sure that it's no longer
included anywhere in kernel sources.

Vaishali Thakkar b8464bcf0a usb: gadget: Convert use of __constant_cpu_to_le16 to cpu_to_le16
In big endian cases, macro cpu_to_le16 unfolds to __swab16 which
provides special case for constants. In little endian cases,
__constant_cpu_to_le16 and cpu_to_le16 expand directly to the
same expression. So, replace __constant_cpu_to_le16 with
cpu_to_le16 with the goal of getting rid of the definition of
__constant_cpu_to_le16 completely.

The semantic patch that performs this transformation is as follows:

@@expression x;@@

- __constant_cpu_to_le16(x)
+ cpu_to_le16(x)
