Editors like emacs and vi recognize a number of error message formats.
The format used by the kerneldoc tool is not recognized by emacs.
Change the kerneldoc error message format to the GNU style such that the
emacs prev-error and next-error commands can be used to navigate through
kerneldoc error messages. For more information about the GNU error

We cannot detect clang before including the arch Makefile, because that
can set the default cross compiler. We also cannot detect clang after
including the arch Makefile, because powerpc wants to know about clang.
Solve this by using an deferred variable. This costs us a few shell
invocations, but this is only a constant number.

Make deb-pkg build both source and binary package like make rpm-pkg does.
For people who only need binary kernel package, there is now bindeb-pkg
target, same target also used to build the .deb files if built from the
source package using dpkg-buildpackage.
Generated source package will build the same kernel .config than what
was available for make deb-pkg. The name of the source package can
be set with KDEB_SOURCENAME enviroment variable.
The source package is useful for GPL compliance, or for feeding to a
automated debian package builder.

over the place, and some nice consolidation of the nvmem drivers to a
common framework. As usual, the mei drivers stand out as the largest
"churn" to handle new devices and features in their hardware.

This adds a simple perl script for reading two files as produced by
the stackusage script and computing the changes in stack usage. For
example:

$ scripts/stackusage -o /tmp/new.su CC=gcc-5.0 -j8 fs/ext4/
$ scripts/stackdelta /tmp/{old,new}.su | sort -k5,5g
shows that gcc 5.0 generally produces less stack-hungry code than gcc
4.7. Obviously, the script can also be used for measuring the effect
of commits, .config tweaks or whatnot.

The current checkstack.pl script has a few problems, stemming from the
overly simplistic attempt at parsing objdump output with regular
expressions: For example, on x86_64 it doesn't take the push
instruction into account, making it consistently underestimate the
real stack use, and it also doesn't capture stack pointer adjustments
of exactly 128 bytes [1].
Since newer gcc (>= 4.6) knows about -fstack-usage, we might as well
take the information straight from the horse's mouth. This patch
introduces scripts/stackusage, which is a simple wrapper for running
make with KCFLAGS set to -fstack-usage. Example use is
scripts/stackusage -o out.su -j8 lib/
The script understands "-o foo" for writing to 'foo' and -h for a
trivial help text; anything else is passed to make.
Afterwards, we find all newly created .su files, massage them a
little, sort by stack use and write the result to a single output
file.
Note that the function names printed by (at least) gcc 4.7 are
sometimes useless. For example, the first three lines of out.su
generated above are

That function '8' is really the static symbol_string(), but it has
been subject to 'interprocedural scalar replacement of aggregates', so
its name in the object file is 'symbol_string.isra.8'. gcc 5.0 doesn't
have this problem; it uses the full name as seen in the object file.

I noticed that genksyms will segfault when it sees duplicate function
pointer type declaration when I placed the same function pointer
definition in two separate headers in a local branch as an intermediate
step of some refactoring. This can be reproduced by piping the following
minimal test case into `genksyms -r /dev/null` or alternatively, putting
it into a C file attempting a build:

typedef int (*f)();
Attaching gdb to genksyms to understand this failure is useless without
changing CFLAGS to emit debuginfo. Once you have debuginfo, you will
find that the failure is that `char *s` was NULL and the program
executed `while(*s)`. At which point, further debugging requires
familiarity with compiler front end / parser development.
What happens is that flex identifies the first instance of the token "f"
as IDENT and the yacc parser adds it to the symbol table. On the second
instance, flex will identify "f" as TYPE, which triggers an error case
in the yacc parser. Given that TYPE would have been IDENT had it not
been in the symbol table, the the segmentaion fault could be avoided by
treating TYPE as IDENT in the affected rule.
Some might consider placing identical function pointer type declarations
in different headers to be poor style might consider a failure to be
beneficial. However, failing through a segmentation fault makes the
cause non-obvious and can waste the time of anyone who encounters it.

Add a check for the existence of input files and exit (with failure)
if they are missing.
Without this additional check, missing files produce error messages
but still result in an output file being generated and a successful

network connectivity, but this failed with:

In scripts/package/builddeb it tries to construct an email address (that
can be queried in /proc/version later on) but with no network,
the "hostname -f" fails. The following patch falls back to just use the
shortname if we cannot determine our FQDN.

Update the shipped files generated by flex and gperf to support the
explicit use of "---help---" and to emit warnings for unsupported
characters on COMMAND tokens.
As I could not find out which flex/gperf version was used to generate
the previous version, I used flex 2.5.35 and gperf 3.0.4 from
Ubuntu 14.04 - this also leads to the big number of changed lines
in this patch.

In Kconfig, definitions of options take the following form:
"<COMMAND> <PARAM> <PARAM> ...". COMMANDs and PARAMs are treated
slightly different by the underlying parser.
While commit 2e0d737fc7 ("kconfig: don't silently ignore unhandled
characters") introduced a warning for unsupported characters around
PARAMs, it does not cover situations where a COMMAND has additional
characters before it.
This change makes Kconfig emit a warning if superfluous characters
are found before COMMANDs. As the 'help' statement sometimes is
written as '---help---', the '-' character would now also be regarded
as unhandled and generate a warning. To avoid that, '-' is added to
the list of allowed characters, and the token '---help---' is included
in the zconf.gperf file.

To ease the navigation in the documentation we should use <links> inside
those tags so readers can easily jump between methods directly.
This was discussed in 2014[1] and is implemented by getting a list
of <refentries> from the DocBook XML to generate a database. Then it looks
for <function>,<structnames> and <paramdef> tags that matches the ones in
the database. As it only links existent references, no broken links are
added.

Since commit 1329e8cc69 ("modsign: Extract signing cert from
CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_KEY if needed"), the build system has carefully coped
with the signing key being specified as a relative path in either the
source or or the build trees.
However, the actual signing of modules has not worked if the filename
is relative to the source tree.
Fix that by moving the config_filename helper into scripts/Kbuild.include
so that it can be used from elsewhere, and then using it in the top-level
Makefile to find the signing key file.
Kill the intermediate $(MODPUBKEY) and $(MODSECKEY) variables too, while
we're at it. There's no need for them.

A PKCS#7 or CMS message can have per-signature authenticated attributes
that are digested as a lump and signed by the authorising key for that
signature. If such attributes exist, the content digest isn't itself
signed, but rather it is included in a special authattr which then
contributes to the signature.
Further, we already require the master message content type to be
pkcs7_signedData - but there's also a separate content type for the data
itself within the SignedData object and this must be repeated inside the
authattrs for each signer [RFC2315 9.2, RFC5652 11.1].
We should really validate the authattrs if they exist or forbid them
entirely as appropriate. To this end:
(1) Alter the PKCS#7 parser to reject any message that has more than one
signature where at least one signature has authattrs and at least one
that does not.
(2) Validate authattrs if they are present and strongly restrict them.
Only the following authattrs are permitted and all others are
rejected:
(a) contentType. This is checked to be an OID that matches the
content type in the SignedData object.
(b) messageDigest. This must match the crypto digest of the data.
(c) signingTime. If present, we check that this is a valid, parseable
UTCTime or GeneralTime and that the date it encodes fits within
the validity window of the matching X.509 cert.
(d) S/MIME capabilities. We don't check the contents.
(e) Authenticode SP Opus Info. We don't check the contents.
(f) Authenticode Statement Type. We don't check the contents.
The message is rejected if (a) or (b) are missing. If the message is
an Authenticode type, the message is rejected if (e) is missing; if
not Authenticode, the message is rejected if (d) - (f) are present.
The S/MIME capabilities authattr (d) unfortunately has to be allowed
to support kernels already signed by the pesign program. This only
affects kexec. sign-file suppresses them (CMS_NOSMIMECAP).
The message is also rejected if an authattr is given more than once or
if it contains more than one element in its set of values.
(3) Add a parameter to pkcs7_verify() to select one of the following
restrictions and pass in the appropriate option from the callers:
(*) VERIFYING_MODULE_SIGNATURE
This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data and
forbids authattrs. sign-file sets CMS_NOATTR. We could be more
flexible and permit authattrs optionally, but only permit minimal
content.
(*) VERIFYING_FIRMWARE_SIGNATURE
This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data and
requires authattrs. In future, this will require an attribute
holding the target firmware name in addition to the minimal set.
(*) VERIFYING_UNSPECIFIED_SIGNATURE
This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data but
allows either no authattrs or only permits the minimal set.
(*) VERIFYING_KEXEC_PE_SIGNATURE
This only supports the Authenticode SPC_INDIRECT_DATA content type
and requires at least an SpcSpOpusInfo authattr in addition to the
minimal set. It also permits an SPC_STATEMENT_TYPE authattr (and
an S/MIME capabilities authattr because the pesign program doesn't
remove these).
(*) VERIFYING_KEY_SIGNATURE
(*) VERIFYING_KEY_SELF_SIGNATURE
These are invalid in this context but are included for later use
when limiting the use of X.509 certs.
(4) The pkcs7_test key type is given a module parameter to select between
the above options for testing purposes. For example:
echo 1 >/sys/module/pkcs7_test_key/parameters/usage
keyctl padd pkcs7_test foo @s </tmp/stuff.pkcs7
will attempt to check the signature on stuff.pkcs7 as if it contains a
firmware blob (1 being VERIFYING_FIRMWARE_SIGNATURE).

This is not required for the module signing key, although it doesn't do any
harm — it just means that any additional certs in the PEM file are also
trusted by the kernel.
But it does allow us to use the extract-cert tool for processing the extra
certs from CONFIG_SYSTEM_TRUSTED_KEYS, instead of that horrid awk|base64
hack.
Also cope with being invoked with no input file, creating an empty output
file as a result.

Make sign-file use the OpenSSL CMS routines to generate a message to be
used as the signature blob instead of the PKCS#7 routines. This allows us
to change how the matching X.509 certificate is selected. With PKCS#7 the
only option is to match on the serial number and issuer fields of an X.509
certificate; with CMS, we also have the option of matching by subjectKeyId
extension. The new behaviour is selected with the "-k" flag.
Without the -k flag specified, the output is pretty much identical to the
PKCS#7 output.
Whilst we're at it, don't include the S/MIME capability list in the message
as it's irrelevant to us.

Pull RCU changes from Paul E. McKenney:
- The combination of tree geometry-initialization simplifications
and OS-jitter-reduction changes to expedited grace periods.
These two are stacked due to the large number of conflicts
that would otherwise result.
[ With one addition, a temporary commit to silence a lockdep false
positive. Additional changes to the expedited grace-period
primitives (queued for 4.4) remove the cause of this false
positive, and therefore include a revert of this temporary commit. ]

In kbuild it is allowed to define objects in files named "Makefile"
and "Kbuild".
Currently localmodconfig reads objects only from "Makefile"s and misses
modules like nouveau.

Module symbols have a limited length, but currently the build system
allows the build finishing even if the driver code contains a too long
symbol name, which eventually overflows the modversion_info[] item.
The compiler may catch at compiling *.mod.c like
CC xxx.mod.o
xxx.mod.c:18:16: warning: initializer-string for array of chars is too long
but it's merely a warning.
This patch adds the check of the symbol length in modpost and stops
the build properly.
Currently MODULE_NAME_LEN is defined in modpost.c instead of referring
to the definition in kernel header because including linux/module.h is
messy and we must cover cross-compilation.

We don't want this in the Kconfig since it might then get exposed in
/proc/config.gz. So make it a parameter to Kbuild instead. This also
means we don't have to jump through hoops to strip quotes from it, as
we would if it was a config option.

Make the -d option (which currently isn't actually wired to anything) write
out the PKCS#7 message as per the -p option and then exit without either
modifying the source or writing out a compound file of the source, signature
and metadata.
This will be useful when firmware signature support is added
upstream as firmware will be left intact, and we'll only require
the signature file. The descriptor is implicit by file extension
and the file's own size.

Move to using PKCS#7 messages as module signatures because:
(1) We have to be able to support the use of X.509 certificates that don't
have a subjKeyId set. We're currently relying on this to look up the
X.509 certificate in the trusted keyring list.
(2) PKCS#7 message signed information blocks have a field that supplies the
data required to match with the X.509 certificate that signed it.
(3) The PKCS#7 certificate carries fields that specify the digest algorithm
used to generate the signature in a standardised way and the X.509
certificates specify the public key algorithm in a standardised way - so
we don't need our own methods of specifying these.
(4) We now have PKCS#7 message support in the kernel for signed kexec purposes
and we can make use of this.
To make this work, the old sign-file script has been replaced with a program
that needs compiling in a previous patch. The rules to build it are added
here.

Provide a utility that:
(1) Digests a module using the specified hash algorithm (typically sha256).
[The digest can be dumped into a file by passing the '-d' flag]
(2) Generates a PKCS#7 message that:
(a) Has detached data (ie. the module content).
(b) Is signed with the specified private key.
(c) Refers to the specified X.509 certificate.
(d) Has an empty X.509 certificate list.
[The PKCS#7 message can be dumped into a file by passing the '-p' flag]
(3) Generates a signed module by concatenating the old module, the PKCS#7
message, a descriptor and a magic string. The descriptor contains the
size of the PKCS#7 message and indicates the id_type as PKEY_ID_PKCS7.
(4) Either writes the signed module to the specified destination or renames
it over the source module.
This allows module signing to reuse the PKCS#7 handling code that was added
for PE file parsing for signed kexec.
Note that the utility is written in C and must be linked against the OpenSSL
crypto library.
Note further that I have temporarily dropped support for handling externally
created signatures until we can work out the best way to do those. Hopefully,
whoever creates the signature can give me a PKCS#7 certificate.

Describing arguments at top of a struct definition works fine
for small/medium size structs, but it definitely doesn't work well
for struct with a huge list of elements.
Keeping the arguments list inside the struct body makes it easier
to maintain the documentation.
ie:

This patch allows the use of this kind of syntax. Only one argument
per comment and user can use how many paragraphs he needs. It should
start with /**, which is already being used by kernel-doc. If those
comment doesn't follow those rules, it will be ignored.

An ANY object in an ASN.1 grammar that is marked OPTIONAL should be skipped
if there is no more data to be had.
This can be tested by editing X.509 certificates or PKCS#7 messages to
remove the NULL from subobjects that look like the following:
SEQUENCE {
OBJECT(2a864886f70d01010b);
NULL();
}
This is an algorithm identifier plus an optional parameter.
The modified DER can be passed to one of:
keyctl padd asymmetric "" @s </tmp/modified.x509

It should work okay with the patch and produce EBADMSG without.

In an ASN.1 description where there is a CHOICE construct that contains
elements with IMPLICIT tags that refer to constructed types, actions to be
taken on those elements should be conditional on the corresponding element
actually being matched. Currently, however, such actions are performed
unconditionally in the middle of processing the CHOICE.
For example, look at elements 'b' and 'e' here:

should only be processed if that element is matched.
The problem is that there's no easy place to hang the action off in the
subclause (type B for element 'b' and type C for element 'e') because
subclause opcode sequences can be shared.
To fix this, introduce a conditional action opcode(ASN1_OP_MAYBE_ACT) that
the decoder only processes if the preceding match was successful. This can
be seen in an excerpt from the output of the fixed ASN.1 compiler for the
above ASN.1 description:

In this, if the op at [13] is matched (ie. element 'e' above) then the
action at [16] will be performed. However, if the op at [13] doesn't match
or is skipped because it is conditional and some previous op matched, then
the action at [16] will be ignored.
Note that to make this work in the decoder, the ASN1_OP_RETURN op must set
the flag to indicate that a match happened. This is necessary because the
_jump_target() seen above introduces a subclause (in this case an object of
type 'C') which is likely to alter the flag. Setting the flag here is okay
because to process a subclause, a match must have happened and caused a
jump.
This cannot be tested with the code as it stands, but rather affects future
code.

This hasn't been a problem so far because in the ASN.1 specs we have are
either using primitives or are using SET OF and SEQUENCE OF which are
handled correctly.
Whilst we're at it, also make sure that element labels get included in
comments in the output for elements that have complex types.
This cannot be tested with the code as it stands, but rather affects future
code.

Add option -f/--find to find relevant commits when using the --diff
option. --find is useful in case a user wants to check commits that
potentially cause a Kconfig symbol to be missing. This is done via 'git
log -G $SYMBOL' (i.e., to get a list of commits that change $SYMBOL).
The relevant commits are printed below the "SYMBOL\tFILES" line,
followed by an empty line to increase readability.

The synchronize_rcu_expedited() and synchronize_sched_expedited()
expedited-grace-period primitives induce OS jitter, which can degrade
real-time response. This commit therefore adds a checkpatch.pl warning
on any patch adding them.
Note that this patch does not warn on synchronize_srcu_expedited()
because it does not induce OS jitter, courtesy of its otherwise
much-maligned read-side memory barriers.

Regular expressions for highlights in kernel-doc are stored in a Perl
hash. These hashes are ordered differently for each Perl run. This will
prevent kernel-doc to behave deterministically when parsing “@foo()” as
in some runs it will be interpreted as a parameter and in the others it
will be interpreted as a function.
We now sort the %highlights hash to get the same behavior on every run.

The tilegx and tilepro compilers use .coldtext for their unlikely
executed text section name, so an __attribute__((cold)) function
will (when compiled with higher optimization levels) land in
the .coldtext section.
Modify modpost to add .coldtext to the set of OTHER_TEXT_SECTIONS
so we don't get warnings about referencing such a section in an
__ex_table block, and then also modify arch/tile/lib/memcpy_user_64.c
so that it uses plain ".coldtext" instead of ".coldtext.memcpy".
The latter naming is a relic of an earlier use of -ffunction-sections,
which we no longer use by default.

Device drivers typically use ACPI _HIDs/_CIDs listed in struct device_driver
acpi_match_table to match devices. However, for generic drivers, we do not
want to list _HID for all supported devices. Also, certain classes of devices
do not have _CID (e.g. SATA, USB). Instead, we can leverage ACPI _CLS,
which specifies PCI-defined class code (i.e. base-class, subclass and
programming interface). This patch adds support for matching ACPI devices using
the _CLS method.
To support loadable module, current design uses _HID or _CID to match device's
modalias. With the new way of matching with _CLS this would requires modification
to the current ACPI modalias key to include _CLS. This patch appends PCI-defined
class-code to the existing ACPI modalias as following.

People often put diff snippets in changelogs. This causes problems
when one tries to apply a file containing both the changelog and the
diff because patch(1) tries to apply the diff which it found in the
changelog.
Warn once when what seems to be a diff snippet in the changelog exists.

Using "git diff | ./scripts/checkpatch -" does not have an
easy mechanism to see the files and lines actually modified.
Add --showfile to see the file and line specified in the diff.
When --showfile is used without --terse, the second line of each
message output is redundant, so it is removed.

If there are multiple patches/files on the command line,
use a prefix before the patch/file message output like:
--------------
patch/filename
--------------
to make the identifying which messages go with which
file/patch a bit easier to parse.
Move the perl version and false positive messages after
all the files have been scanned so that they are emitted
only once.
Standardize the NOTE: <...> form to always emit a blank
line before the NOTE and always use print << "EOM" style.

Many lines of code extend beyond the maximum line length. Some of these
are possibly justified by use type.
For instance:
structure definitions where comments are added per member like:
struct foo {
type member; /* some long description */
And lines that don't fit the typical logging message style
where a string constant is used like:
SOME_MACRO(args, "Some long string");
Categorize these long line types so that checkpatch can use a command-line
--ignore=<type> option to avoid emitting some long line warnings.
One of the existing checkpatch exclusions allowed kernel-doc argument
documentation to exceed 80 columns because old versions of kernel-doc
required single line documentation. The requirement was removed in 2009
so remove that exclusion.
Add documentation to make the test a bit clearer.

String detection where a source line with a string constant is converted
can either have an X or a space.
Some of the string detection regexes do not allow the space character, but
there is a handy $String variable that does.
Convert the remaining uses of string detection regexes to use the $String
variable to reduce possible false negatives.

checkpatch uses various cues in its input patches and files to discover
the names of user-defined types and modifiers. It then uses that
information when processing expressions to discover potential style
issues.
Unfortunately, in rare cases, this means that checkpatch may give
different results if you run it on several input files in one execution,
or one by one!
The reason is that it may identify a type (or something that looks like a
type) in one file, and then carry this information over when processing a
different file.
For example, drivers/staging/media/bcm2048/radio-bcm2048.c contains this
line (in a macro):
size value;
and drivers/staging/media/davinci_vpfe/vpfe_video.c has this line:
while (size * *nbuffers > vpfe_dev->video_limit)
If checkpatch processes these 2 files in a single command like:
./scripts/checkpatch.pl -f $file1 $file2
the (spurious) "size" type detected in the first file will cause it to flag
the second file for improper use of the pointer dereference operator.
To fix this, store types and modifiers found in a file in separate arrays
from built-in ones, and reset the arrays of types and modifiers found in
files at the beginning of each new source file.

Using declarations like u_int16_t in kernel code is not preferred.
Suggest the kernel sized types instead of the c99 types when not in the
uapi directory.
Add a $typeC99Typedefs variable for the types to check and neaten the
other typedef variables.

Section headers can be quite long and some are very long and duplicated
for many initial characters.
The current maximum length emitted for a section header is 20 bytes (or
17 bytes then ... when the section header length is > 20).
Change that length to 50 so more of the section is shown.

"There were so many changes in the x86/asm, x86/apic and x86/mm topics
in this cycle that the topical separation of -tip broke down somewhat -
so the result is a more traditional architecture pull request,
collected into the 'x86/core' topic.

bisectability and conceptual separation should still be pretty good -
but there were a handful of merge points to avoid excessive
dependencies (and conflicts) that would have been poorly tested in the

The __cpuinit support was removed several releases ago in 3.11-rc1 with
commit 22f0a27367 ("init.h: remove __cpuinit
sections from the kernel")
People have had a chance to update their out of tree code, so now we remove
the no-op stubs to ensure no more new use cases can creep back in.
Also delete the mention of __cpuinitdata from the tag script.

This lets you build a kernel which can support xen dom0
or xen guests on i386, x86-64 and arm64 by just using:
make xenconfig
You can start from an allnoconfig and then switch to xenconfig.
This also splits out the options which are available currently
to be built with x86 and 'make ARCH=arm64' under a shared config.
Technically xen supports a dom0 kernel and also a guest
kernel configuration but upon review with the xen team
since we don't have many dom0 options its best to just
combine these two into one.
A few generic notes: we enable both of these:
CONFIG_INET=y
CONFIG_BINFMT_ELF=y
although technically not required given you likely will
end up with a pretty useless system otherwise.
A few architectural differences worth noting:

Since the options are already split up with a generic config and
architecture specific configs you anything on the x86 configs
are known to only work right now on x86. For instance arm64 doesn't
support MEMORY_HOTPLUG yet as such although we try to enabe it
generically arm64 doesn't have it yet, so we leave the xen
specific kconfig option XEN_BALLOON_MEMORY_HOTPLUG on x86's config
file to set expecations correctly.
Then on x86 we have differences between i386 and x86-64. The difference
between 64-bit-config and 32-bit-config is you don't get XEN_MCE_LOG as
this is only supported on 64-bit. You also do not get on i386
XEN_BALLOON_MEMORY_HOTPLUG, there does not seem to be any technical
reasons to not allow this but I gave up after a few attempts.

Before rpm release 4.1, in 2002, either the rpm command or the
rpmbuild command could be used in the rpm-pkg or binrpm-pkg targets,
and the Makefile chose the rpm command if the rpmbuild command wasn't
found.
After release 4.1, however, the rpm command could no longer be used in
place of the rpmbuild command. As the rpmbuild command is not
installed by default, this can lead to failures with the rpm-pkg and
binrpm-pkg targets:

rpm --target: unknown option
scripts/package/Makefile:60: recipe for target 'binrpm-pkg' failed
Change the Makefile to use rpmbuild unconditionally to avoid this.

Over the years I found it desirable to be able to use all sorts of
relations, not just (in)equality. And apparently I'm not the only one,
as there's at least one example in the tree where the programmer
assumed this would work (see DEBUG_UART_8250_WORD in
arch/arm/Kconfig.debug). Another possible use would e.g. be to fold the
two SMP/NR_CPUS prompts into one: SMP could be promptless, simply
depending on NR_CPUS > 1.
A (desirable) side effect of this change - resulting from numeric
values now necessarily being compared as numbers rather than as
strings - is that comparing hex values now works as expected: Other
than int ones (which aren't allowed to have leading zeroes), zeroes
following the 0x prefix made them compare unequal even if their values
were equal.

A previous commit, c93b76b34b ("mei: bus: report also uuid in module
alias") caused a build error as I missed applying a needed patch to add
some macros to uapi/linux/uuid.h. Instead of those additional macros,
change the mei code to use the existing uuid structure directly.

expr_eliminate_dups2() in scripts/kconfig/expr.c applies two invalid
inference rules:
(FOO || BAR) && (!FOO && !BAR) -> n
(FOO && BAR) || (!FOO || !BAR) -> y
They would be correct in propositional logic, but this is a three-valued
logic, and here it is wrong in that it changes semantics. It becomes
immediately visible when assigning the value 1 to both, FOO and BAR:
(FOO || BAR) && (!FOO && !BAR)
-> min(max(1, 1), min(2-1, 2-1)) = min(1, 1) = 1
while n evaluates to 0 and
(FOO && BAR) || (!FOO || !BAR)
-> max(min(1, 1), max(2-1, 2-1)) = max(1, 1) = 1
with y evaluating to 2.
Fix it by removing expr_eliminate_dups2() and the functions that have no
use anywhere else: expr_extract_eq_and(), expr_extract_eq_or(),
and expr_extract_eq() from scripts/kconfig/expr.c
Currently the bug is not triggered in mainline, so this patch does not
modify the configuration space there. To observe the bug consider this

As a side effect, this patch reduces code size in expr.c by roughly 10%

UTMI+ Low Pin Interface (ULPI) is a commonly used PHY
interface for USB 2.0. The ULPI specification describes a
standard set of registers which the vendors can extend for
their specific needs. ULPI PHYs provide often functions
such as charger detection and ADP sensing and probing.
There are two major issues that the bus type is meant to
tackle:
Firstly, ULPI registers are accessed from the controller.
The bus provides convenient method for the controller
drivers to share that access with the actual PHY drivers.
Secondly, there are already platforms that assume ULPI PHYs
are runtime detected, such as many Intel Baytrail based
platforms. They do not provide any kind of hardware
description for the ULPI PHYs like separate ACPI device
object that could be used to enumerate a device from.

If CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_ALL is set, then user expects that all modules are
automatically signed in the result package, as it's for rpm-pkg, binrpm-pkg,
tar, tar-*. For deb-pkg this is correct only if CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO
is NOT set. In that case deb-package contains signed modules.
But if CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO is set, builddeb creates separate package with
debug information. To do that, debug information from all modules
is copied into separate files by objcopy. And loadable kernel modules are
stripped afterwards. Stripping removes previously (during modules_install)
added signatures from loadable kernel modules. Therefore final deb-package
contains unsigned modules despite of set option CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_ALL.
This patch resigns all stripped modules if CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_ALL is set
to solve this problem.

The following script is used to import dtc upstream
into kernel. It was missing import of dtc/libfdt, with
this commit it will include the same.
Also, currently in arch and driver code that needs early access to
the flattened device tree it is necessary to add specific CFLAGS
so that when scripts/dtc/libfdt/libfdt.h is included the C
preprocessor is able to locate the libfdt versions of libfdt_env.h
and fdt.h without generating an error. So, this script replaces
angular brackets with quotation used to include header files
fdt.h and libfdt_env.h

create_package() function tries to resolve used architecture
for everry package. Split the setting the architecture to a
new function, set_debarch(), called once on startup.
This allows using debarch from other parts of script as
needed.

Currently an allyesconfig build [gcc-4.9.1] can generate the following:
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text.unlikely+0x3864): Section mismatch in
reference from the function cpumask_empty.constprop.3() to the
variable .init.data:nmi_ipi_mask
which comes from the cpumask_empty usage in arch/x86/kernel/nmi_selftest.c.
Normally we would not see a symbol entry for cpumask_empty since it is:
static inline bool cpumask_empty(const struct cpumask *srcp)
however in this case, the variant of the symbol gets emitted when GCC does
constant propagation optimization.
Fix things up so that any locally optimized constprop variants don't warn
when accessing variables that live in the __init sections.

Currently the match() function supports a leading * to match any
prefix and a trailing * to match any suffix. However there currently
is not a combination of both that can be used to target matches of
whole families of functions that share a common substring.
Here we expand the *foo and foo* match to also support *foo* with
the goal of targeting compiler generated symbol names that contain
strings like ".constprop." and ".isra."

As Guenter pointed out, we were never really calculating the extable entry
size because the pointer arithmetic was simply wrong. We want to check
we're handling the second relocation in __ex_table to infer an entry size,
but we were using (void*) pointers instead of Elf_Rel[a]* ones.
This fixes the problem by moving that check in the caller (since we can
deal with different types of relocations) and add is_second_extable_reloc()
to make the whole thing more readable.

As Guenter pointed out, we want to assert that extable_entry_size has been
discovered and not the other way around. Moreover, this sanity check is
only valid when we're not dealing with the first relocation in __ex_table,
since we have not discovered the extable entry size at that point.
This was leading to a divide-by-zero on some architectures and make the
build fail.

Since commit 1f65f947a6 ("checkpatch: add checks for question mark and
colon spacing") back in 2008, checkpatch has reported false positive for
asm volatile uses of "::" checkpatch thinks colons should always have
spaces around it.
Add an exception for colons with colons on either side for this valid asm
volatile (and c++) use.

If a patch touches multiple files, the --fix and --fix-inplace option
doesn't keep the proper line count and makes the new patch file not able
to be applied via bad offset line numbers when lines are added or deleted
by the --fix option.

ENOSYS means that a nonexistent system call was called. We have a
bad habit of using it for things like invalid operations on
otherwise valid syscalls. We should avoid this in new code.
Pervasive incorrect usage of ENOSYS came up at the kernel summit ABI
review discussion. Let's see if checkpatch can help.

Marking these objects as __read_mostly causes section conflicts with LTO

Suggest line wrapping at 75 columns so the default git commit log
indentation of 4 plus the commit message text still fits on an 80 column
screen.

Currently checkpatch will fuss if one uses world writable settings in
debugfs files and DEVICE_ATTR uses by testing S_IWUGO but not testing
S_IWOTH, S_IRWXUGO or S_IALLUGO.
Extend the check to catch all cases exporting world writable permissions
including octal values.

If a codespell dictionary exists, use it if desired. default is off,
maybe it could be turned on later.
codespell's dictionary format allows multiple possible corrections, ignore
that for now and only use the first suggestion.
Also add \b to spelling test so that consecutive misspelled words
are found properly.

The "no space is necessary after a cast" sizeof exclusion doesn't work
properly.
The test reports a false positive for code like:
BUILD_BUG_ON(sizeof(struct batadv_bla_claim_dst) != 6);
Make it work, simplify the exclusions, and add some comments.

Support for kernel image LZ4 compression was added around 3.11, but not
the corresponding kernel .config extraction.
This makes possible extracting the kernel config for LZ4-compressed
kernels you're not running, or the current LZ4-compressed kernel if
compiled without /proc/config.gz support.

__ex_table is a simple table section where each entry is a pair of
addresses - the first address is an address which can fault in kernel
space, and the second address points to where the kernel should jump to
when handling that fault. This is how copy_from_user() does not crash the
kernel if userspace gives a borked pointer for example.
If one of these addresses point to a non-executable section, something is
seriously wrong since it either means the kernel will never fault from
there or it will not be able to jump to there. As both cases are serious
enough, we simply error out in these cases so the build fails and the
developper has to fix the issue.
In case the section is executable, but it isn't referenced in our list of
authorized sections to point to from __ex_table, we just dump a warning
giving more information about it. We do this in case the new section is
executable but isn't supposed to be executed by the kernel. This happened
with .altinstr_replacement, which is executable but is only used to copy
instructions from - we should never have our instruction pointer pointing
in .altinstr_replacement. Admitedly, a proper fix in that case would be to
just set .altinstr_replacement NX, but we need to warn about future cases
like this.

This shell script can be used to sanity check the __ex_table section on an
object file, making sure the relocations in there are pointing to valid
executable sections. If it finds some suspicious relocations, it'll use
addr2line to try and dump where this is coming from.
This works best with CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO.

When linking large kernels on ARM, the linker will insert veneers
(i.e., PLT like stubs) when function symbols are out of reach for
the ordinary relative branch/branch-and-link instructions.
However, due to the fact that the kallsyms region sits in .rodata,
which is between .text and .init.text, additional veneers may be
emitted in the second pass due to the fact that the size of the
kallsyms region itself has pushed the .init.text section further
apart, requiring even more veneers.
So ignore the veneers when generating the symbol table. Veneers
have no corresponding source code, and they will not turn up in
backtraces anyway.
This patch also lightly refactors the symbol_valid() function
to use a local 'sym_name' rather than the obfuscated 'sym + 1'
and 'sym + offset'

Add MIPS Common Device Memory Map (CDMM) support in the form of a bus in
the standard Linux device model. Each device attached via CDMM is
discoverable via an 8-bit type identifier and may contain a number of
blocks of memory mapped registers in the CDMM region. IRQs are expected
to be handled separately.
Due to the per-cpu (per-VPE for MT cores) nature of the CDMM devices,
all the driver callbacks take place from workqueues which are run on the
right CPU for the device in question, so that the driver doesn't need to
be as concerned about which CPU it is running on. Callbacks also exist
for when CPUs are taken offline, so that any per-CPU resources used by
the driver can be disabled so they don't get forcefully migrated. CDMM
devices are created as children of the CPU device they are attached to.
Any existing CDMM configuration by the bootloader will be inherited,
however platforms wishing to enable CDMM should implement the weak
mips_cdmm_phys_base() function (see asm/cdmm.h) so that the bus driver
knows where it should put the CDMM region in the physical address space
if the bootloader hasn't already enabled it.
A mips_cdmm_early_probe() function is also provided to allow early boot
or particularly low level code to set up the CDMM region and probe for a
specific device type, for example early console or KGDB IO drivers for
the EJTAG Fast Debug Channel (FDC) CDMM device.

Since commit 1c6c69525b ("genirq: Reject
bogus threaded irq requests") threaded IRQs without a primary handler
need to be requested with IRQF_ONESHOT, otherwise the request will fail.
Until now, this coccinelle script only checked request_threaded_irq().
However, the counterpart devm function (see kernel/irq/devres.c) is also
affected by the missing flag which can be detected with this patch.
