failed to solve lockups, whereas the old limit-to-32-bit trick worked.
Restore the 32-bit limit, but also leave the 255-sector limit in place,
because we know that's needed as well.

A Promise SATA controller will signal hotplug events when a hard
reset (COMRESET) is done on a port. These events aren't masked by
the driver, and the unexpected interrupts will cause a sequence
of failed reset attempts util libata's EH finally gives up.
This has not been a common problem so far, but the pending libata
hardreset-by-default changes makes it a critical issue.
The solution is to disable hotplug events before a reset, and to
reenable them afterwards. (Promise's driver does this too.)
This patch adds SATA-specific versions of ->freeze() and ->thaw()
that also disable and enable hotplug events. PATA ports continue
to use the old versions of ->freeze() and ->thaw().
Accesses to the hotplug register must be serialised via host->lock.
We rely on ap->lock == &ap->host->lock and that libata takes this
lock before ->freeze() and ->thaw(). Document this requirement.
The interrupt handler is adjusted so its hotplug register accesses
are inside the region protected by host->lock.
Tested on various chips (SATA300TX4, SATA300TX2plus, SATAII150TX4,
FastTrack TX4000) with various combinations of SATA and PATA disks,
with and without the pending hardreset-by-default changes.

There's no point in retrying and eventually failing device detection
when the device rejects READ_NATIVE_MAX[_EXT]. Disable HPA unlocking
if READ_NATIVE_MAX[_EXT] is rejected as done when SET_MAX[_EXT] is
rejected.
This allows some old drives to work even if they aren't blacklisted.

This is to fix bugzilla #10254. QSI cdrom attached to pata_sis as
secondary master appears as phantom device for the slave.
Interestingly, instead of not setting DRQ after IDENTIFY which
triggers NODEV_HINT, it aborts both IDENTIFY and IDENTIFY PACKET which
makes EH retry.
Modify EH such that it assumes no device is attached if both flavors
of IDENTIFY are aborted by the device. There really isn't much point
in retrying when the device actively aborts the commands.
While at it, convert NODEV detection message to ata_dev_printk() to
help debugging obscure detection problems.

pata_ali was using qc->nbytes to determine whether a command is
data transfer type or not. As now qc->nbytes can be extended by
padding and draining buffers, these tests are not useful anymore.

ahci is often implemented with accompanying SFF compatible interface
and legacy IDE driver may attach to the legacy IO ports when the
controller is already claimed by ahci and vice-versa. This patch
makes ahci use pcim_iomap_regions_request_all() so that all IO regions
are claimed on attach.

Improve ACPI hotplug handling such that dock event is handled properly.
* Register handlers for dock events.
* Directly detach device on EJECT_REQUEST instead of signaling hotplug
event. This prevents libata from accessing severed controller
and/or device.
* While at it, use named constants for ACPI events and move uevent
signaling inside host lock.

Some old SFF controllers don't have any way to reset the channel.
Currently, this isn't supported and libata EH causes an oops. Allow
LLDs w/o any reset method and just assume ATA class in such cases.

This addresses the recent ATI SB600 errata, where the hardware does
not like 256-length PRD entries during FPDMA (aka NCQ).
It hurts performance on SB600, but it is more important to get a
correct patch eliminating the data corruption/lockups, and then later
on tune for performance.
We simply limit each command to a maximum of 255 sectors, on SB600.

Block layer alignment was used for two different purposes - memory
alignment and padding. This causes problems in lower layers because
drivers which only require memory alignment ends up with adjusted
rq->data_len. Separate out padding such that padding occurs iff
driver explicitly requests it.

The meaning of rq->data_len was changed to the length of an allocated
buffer from the true data length. It breaks SG_IO friends and
bsg. This patch restores the meaning of rq->data_len to the true data
length and adds rq->extra_len to store an extended length (due to
drain buffer and padding).
This patch also removes the code to update bio in blk_rq_map_user
introduced by the commit 40b01b9bbd.
The commit adjusts bio according to memory alignment
(queue_dma_alignment). However, memory alignment is NOT padding
alignment. This adjustment also breaks SG_IO friends and bsg. Padding
alignment needs to be fixed in a proper way (by a separate patch).

This behavior has been confirmed by Marvell with a SATA analyzer.
The Marvell port-multiplier apparently likes to see clean HOB
information when accessing PMP registers.
Since sata_mv uses PIO shadow register access, this doesn't happen
automatically, as it might in a more purely FIS-based driver (eg. ahci).
One way to fix this is to flag these commands with ATA_TFLAG_LBA48,
forcing libata to write out the HOB fields with known (zero) values.

Back in 2.6.17-rc2, a libata module parameter was added for atapi_dmadir.
That's nice, but most SATA devices which need it will tell us about it
in their IDENTIFY PACKET response, as bit-15 of word-62 of the
returned data (as per ATA7, ATA8 specifications).
So for those which specify it, we should automatically use the DMADIR bit.
Otherwise, disc writing will fail by default on many SATA-ATAPI drives.
This patch adds ATA_DFLAG_DMADIR and make ata_dev_configure() set it
if atapi_dmadir is set or identify data indicates DMADIR is necessary.
atapi_xlat() is converted to check ATA_DFLAG_DMADIR before setting
DMADIR.

During the last step of hibernation in the "platform" mode (with the
help of ACPI) we use the suspend code, including the devices'
->suspend() methods, to prepare the system for entering the ACPI S4
system sleep state.
But at least for some devices the operations performed by the
->suspend() callback in that case must be different from its operations
during regular suspend.
For this reason, introduce the new PM event type PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE and
pass it to the device drivers' ->suspend() methods during the last phase
of hibernation, so that they can distinguish this case and handle it as
appropriate. Modify the drivers that handle PM_EVENT_SUSPEND in a
special way and need to handle PM_EVENT_HIBERNATE in the same way.
These changes are necessary to fix a hibernation regression related
to the i915 driver (ref. http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/22/488).

This patch implements libata.force module parameter which can
selectively override ATA port, link and device configurations
including cable type, SATA PHY SPD limit, transfer mode and NCQ.
For example, you can say "use 1.5Gbps for all fan-out ports attached
to the second port but allow 3.0Gbps for the PMP device itself, oh,
the device attached to the third fan-out port chokes on NCQ and
shouldn't go over UDMA4" by the following.

The sata_mv driver can be loaded as a platform device, as is done by
various Orion (ARM) based devices. The driver needs to define a module
alias for the platform driver so udev will load it automatically.

This just updates the libata slave configure routine to take advantage
of the block layer drain buffers. It also adjusts the size lengths in
the atapi code to add the drain buffer to the DMA length so the driver
knows it can rely on it.
I suspect I should also be checking for AHCI as well as ATA_DEV_ATAPI,
but I couldn't see how to do that easily.

ATA requires that all DMA transfers begin and end on word boundaries.
Because of this, a large amount of machinery grew up in ide to adjust
scatterlists on this basis. However, as of 2.5, the block layer has a
dma_alignment variable which ensures both the beginning and length of a
DMA transfer are aligned on the dma_alignment boundary. Although the
block layer does adjust the beginning of the transfer to ensure this
happens, it doesn't actually adjust the length, it merely makes sure
that space is allocated for transfers beyond the declared length. The
upshot of this is that scatterlists may be padded to any size between
the actual length and the length adjusted to the dma_alignment safely
knowing that memory is allocated in this region.
Right at the moment, SCSI takes the default dma_aligment which is on a
512 byte boundary. Note that this aligment only applies to transfers
coming in from user space. However, since all kernel allocations are
automatically aligned on a minimum of 32 byte boundaries, it is safe to
adjust them in this manner as well.

For misc ATAPI commands which transfer variable length data to the
host, overflow can occur due to application or hardware bug. Such
overflows can be ignored safely as long as overflow data is properly
drained. libata HSM implementation has this implemented in
__atapi_pio_bytes() and recently updated for 2.6.24-rc but it requires
further improvements. Improve drain logic such that...
* Report overflow errors using ehi desc mechanism instead of printing
directly.
* Properly calculate the number of bytes to be drained considering
actual number of consumed bytes for partial draining.

ata_host_detach() detaches an attached port and shouldn't be called on
a port which hasn't been attached yet. pata_legacy incorrectly calls

Some controllers (VIA CX700) raise device error on SETXFER even after
mode configuration succeeded. Update ata_dev_set_mode() such that
device error is ignored if transfer mode is configured correctly. To
implement this, device is revalidated even after device error on
SETXFER.
This fixes kernel bugzilla bug 8563.

This fixes some problems with ATAPI devices on nForce4 controllers in ADMA mode
on systems with memory located above 4GB. We need to delay setting the 64-bit
DMA mask until the PRD table and padding buffer are allocated so that they don't
get allocated above 4GB and break legacy mode (which is needed for ATAPI
devices). Also, if either port is in ATAPI mode we need to set the DMA mask
for the PCI device to 32-bit to ensure that the IOMMU code properly bounces
requests above 4GB, as it appears setting the bounce limit does not guarantee
that we will not try to map requests above this point.

AHCI uses CAP.NP to indicate the number of ports and PI to tell which
ports are enabled. The only requirement is that the number of ports
indicated by CAP.NP should equal or be higher than the number of
enabled ports in PI.
CAP.NP and PI carry duplicate information and there have been some
interesting cases. Some early AHCI controllers didn't set PI at all
and just implement from port 0 to CAP.NP. An ICH8 board which wired
four out of six available ports had 3 (4 ports) for CAP.NP and 0x33
for PI. While ESB2 has less bits set in PI than the value in CAP.NP.
Till now, ahci driver assumed that PI is invalid if it doesn't match
CAP.NP exactly. This violates AHCI standard and the driver ends up
accessing unmimplemented ports on ESB2.
This patch updates CAP.NP and PI handling such that PI can have less
number of bits set than indicated in CAP.NP and the highest port is
determined as the maximum port of what CAP.NP and PI indicate.

This patch converts users of pci_enable_device_bars() to the new
pci_enable_device_{io,mem} interface.
The new API fits nicely, except maybe for the QLA case where a bit of
code re-organization might be a good idea but I prefer sticking to the
simple patch as I don't have hardware to test on.
I'll also need some feedback on the cs5520 change.

This patch is based on an original patch from Kuan Luo of NVIDIA,
posted under subject "fixed a bug of adma in rhel4u5 with HDS7250SASUN500G".
His description follows. I've reworked it a bit to avoid some unnecessary
repeated checks but it should be functionally identical.
"The patch is to solve the error message "ata1: CPB flags CMD err,
flags=0x11" when testing HDS7250SASUN500G in rhel4u5.
I tested this hd in 2.6.24-rc7 which needed to remove the mask in
blacklist to run the ncq and the same error also showed up.
I traced the bug and found that the interrupt finished a command (for
example, tag=0) when the driver got that adma status is
NV_ADMA_STAT_DONE and cpb->resp_flags is NV_CPB_RESP_DONE.
However, For this hd, the drive maybe didn't clear bit 0 at this moment.
It meaned the hardware had not completely finished the command.
If at the same time the driver freed the command(tag 0) and sended
another command (tag 0), the error happened.
The notifier register is 32-bit register containing notifier value.
Value is bit vector containing one bit per tag number (0-31) in
corresponding bit positions (bit 0 is for tag 0, etc). When bit is set
then ADMA indicates that command with corresponding tag number completed
execution.
So i added the check notifier code. Sometimes i saw that the notifier
reg set some bits , but the adma status set NV_ADMA_STAT_CMD_COMPLETE
,not NV_ADMA_STAT_DONE. So i added the NV_ADMA_STAT_CMD_COMPLETE check
code."

In preparation for supporting NCQ, we must allocate separate SG tables
for each command tag, rather than just a single table per port as before.
Gen-I hardware cannot do NCQ, though, so we still allocate just a single
table for that, but populate it in all 32 slots to avoid special-cases
elsewhere in hotter paths of the code.

Create host-owned DMA memory pools, for use in allocating/freeing per-port
command/response queues and SG tables. This gives us a way to guarantee we
meet the hardware address alignment requirements, and also reduces memory that
might otherwise be wasted on alignment gaps.

The GenII chips have only 8-bits for the sector_count field when performing NCQ.
Add a dev_config method to restrict this when necessary, taking care not to
override any other restriction already in place (likely none, but someday.. ?).

Hugh Dickens noticed that SMART commands issued from user space can
end up corupting memory. The problem occurs if the buffer used to
read data spans two pages. The reason is that the PIO sector routines
in libata are expecting physically contiguous pages when they do
sector operations, so the left overs on the second page go into the
next physically adjacent page rather than the next page in the sg
mapping.
Fix this by enforcing strict 512 byte alignment on all buffers from
userspace.

ATA_ECAT_DUBIOUS_BASE was too high by one and thus all DUBIOUS error
categorizations were wrong. This passed test because only ATA_BUS and
UNK_DEV were used during testing and the ones after them - ATA_BUS and
an overflowed entry - behaved similarly.
This patch fixes the problem by adding DUBIOUS_NONE category and use
it as base.

For ICH8, SCRs can be accessed using index and data register pair
located at BAR 5. This patch implements support for it such that PHY
status, errors and hardreset are available for those controllers.
This is the only case where two devices on a PATA channel have access
to SCRs and creates a unique problem of mapping two SCRs to one link.
Note that this is different from PMP case in that they aren't quite
separate links - e.g. softreset resets both devices.
This problem is worked around by merging the SCR values. To upper
layer, it looks like there is a single link with one set of SCRs but
with two devices. This works well enough for PHY event, error
reporting and hardreset.
Supporting hardreset is important because in rare cases SATA devices
fail to recover without it after PHY errors.

ata_piix requires more configuration during initialization than most
other SFF compliant controllers and one-go initialzation with
ata_pci_one() is too rigid.
This patch converts ata_piix to use two step prepare - activate
initialization used by other more advanced controllers. This
conversion brings the happy side effect of enabling PCI device before
accessing PCI configuration registers. Other than that, there
shouldn't be any behavior change.

Factor out ata_pci_activate_sff_host() from ata_pci_one(). This does
about the same thing as ata_host_activate() but needs to be separate
because SFF controllers use different and multiple IRQs in legacy
mode.
This will be used to make SFF LLD initialization more flexible.

Update the legacy driver so it can handle VLB ports nicely, and has an
internal structure for nailing new ISA/VLB forms in. Anyone got an ALI14xx
and a spare day ;)
Also adds an "all" parameter so you can load this driver after all the PCI
ones in a boot time kernel and tell it to grab anything ST412 compatible
even if it is an unknown PCI device. That allows libata to offer the same
"just get me a disk somehow" fallback that old IDE did.

Some it821x RAID firmwares return 0 for the err return off both devices.
A similar issue occurs with the slave returning 0 not 1 if you plug a
gigabyte sata ramdisk into a controller that fakes two SATA ports as
master/slave on an SFF channel.
The patch does the following
- Allow the 'failed diagnostics' case on both master and slave
- Move the HORKAGE_DIAGNOSTIC check after ->dev_config
This second change also allows IT821x to fix up a problem where we report
drive diagnostic failures when in fact the drive is fine but the
microcontroller firmware doesn't appear to get it right. IT821x clears
the flag again to avoid giving the user bogus warnings about their disk.
The other IT821x change is a bit ugly, we slightly abuse the cable type
hook to fiddle with the identify data for the devices. We could add a new
hook for this but as we have only one offender and no more seeming likely
it seems better to keep libata-core clean.
Please let this sit in -mm briefly, just in case the relaxed checking
breaks some other emulated interface.

qc->nbytes didn't use to include extra buffers setup by libata core
layer and my be odd. This patch makes qc->nbytes include any extra
buffers setup by libata core layer and guaranteed to be aligned on 4
byte boundary.
This value is to be used to program the host controller. As this
represents the actual length of buffer available to the controller and
the controller must be able to deal with short transfers for ATAPI
commands which can transfer variable length, this shouldn't break any
controllers while making problems like rounding-down and controllers
choking up on odd transfer bytes much less likely.
The unmodified value is stored in new field qc->raw_nbytes.

libata used private sg iterator to handle padding sg. Now that sg can
be chained, padding can be handled using standard sg ops. Convert to
chained sg.
* s/qc->__sg/qc->sg/
* s/qc->pad_sgent/qc->extra_sg[]/. Because chaining consumes one sg
entry. There need to be two extra sg entries. The renaming is also
for future addition of other extra sg entries.
* Padding setup is moved into ata_sg_setup_extra() which is organized
in a way that future addition of other extra sg entries is easy.
* qc->orig_n_elem is unused and removed.
* qc->n_elem now contains the number of sg entries that LLDs should
map. qc->mapped_n_elem is added to carry the original number of
mapped sgs for unmapping.
* The last sg of the original sg list is used to chain to extra sg
list. The original last sg is pointed to by qc->last_sg and the
content is stored in qc->saved_last_sg. It's restored during
ata_sg_clean().
* All sg walking code has been updated. Unnecessary assertions and
checks for conditions the core layer already guarantees are removed.

ATA_QCFLAG_DMAMAP was a bit peculiar in that it got set during qc
initialization and cleared if DMA mapping wasn't necessary. Make it
more straight forward by making the following changes.
* Don't set it during initialization. Set it after DMA is actually
mapped.
* Add BUG_ON() to guarantee that there is data to transfer if DMAMAP
is set. This always holds for the current code. The BUG_ON() is
for docummentation and sanity check.

With atapi_request_sense() converted to use sg, there's no user of
non-sg interface. Kill non-sg interface.
* ATA_QCFLAG_SINGLE and ATA_QCFLAG_SG are removed. ATA_QCFLAG_DMAMAP
is used instead. (this way no LLD change is necessary)
* qc->buf_virt is removed.
* ata_sg_init_one() and ata_sg_setup_one() are removed.

Depending on how many bytes are transferred as a unit, PIO data
transfer may consume more bytes than requested. Knowing how much
data is consumed is necessary to determine how much is left for
draining. This patch update ->data_xfer such that it returns the
number of consumed bytes.
While at it, it also makes the following changes.
* s/adev/dev/
* use READ/WRITE constants for rw indication
* misc clean ups

ATA_PROT_ATAPI_* are ugly and naming schemes between ATA_PROT_* and
ATA_PROT_ATAPI_* are inconsistent causing confusion. Rename them to

Cable detection on NV PATA hosts isn't implemented and the CBLID-
cable isn't wired according to the sepc either, so both host-side and
generic drive-side cable detections are broken. Till now,
nv_cable_detect() relied on peeking BIOS and ACPI configurations to
upgrade to 80C but this often results in misdetection of 40C cable as
80C. Also, the original implementation was broken in that by the time
BIOS configuration is read it has already been cleared by programming
PIO0 during reset.
This patch reimplements NV mode selection such that...
* BIOS configuration value is stored during driver attach and restored
on detach.
* Cable type is fixed to ATA_CBL_PATA_IGN and mode selection is soley
done by nv_mode_filter() which peeks both BIOS and ACPI
configurations and filter accordingly.

Reimplement ata_acpi_cbl_80wire() using ata_acpi_gtm_xfermask() and
while at it relocate the function below ata_acpi_gtm_xfermask().
New ata_acpi_cbl_80wire() implementation takes @gtm, in both pata_via
and pata_amd, use the initial GTM value. Both are trying to peek
initial BIOS configuration, so using initial caching value makes
sense. This fixes ACPI part of cable detection in pata_amd which
previously always returned 0 because configuring PIO0 during reset
clears DMA configuration.

libata-acpi is using separate timing tables for transfer modes
although libata-core has the complete ata_timing table. Implement
ata_timing_cycle2mode() to look for matching mode given transfer type
and cycle duration and use it in libata-acpi and pata_acpi to replace
private timing tables.

ata_acpi_gtm_xfermask() as separated out from pacpi_discover_modes()
has various bugs. Fix them.
* The wrong comparison operator is used when finding for matching
cycle resulting totally bogus result.
* With the comparion operator fixed, boundary condtion handling is
clumsy.
* Setting of any DMA mask bit set all bits in PIO mask.
* MWDMA and UDMA blocks are swapped.

Finding out matching transfer mode from ACPI GTM values is useful for
other purposes too. Separate out the function and timing tables from
pata_acpi::pacpi_discover_modes().
Other than checking shared-configuration bit after doing
ata_acpi_gtm() in pacpi_discover_modes() which should be safe, this
patch doesn't introduce any behavior change.

ATA_CBL_PATA_UNK indicates that the cable type can't be determined
from the host side and might be either 80c or 40c. libata applies
drive or other generic limit in this case. However, there are
controllers where both host and drive side detections are
misimplemented and the driver has to rely solely on private method -
peeking BIOS or ACPI configuration or using some other private
mechanism.
This patch adds ATA_CBL_PATA_IGN which tells libata to ignore the
cable type completely and just let the LLD determine the transfer mode
via host transfer mode masks and ->mode_filter().

ata_id_to_dma_mode() isn't quite generic. The function is basically
privately implemented ata_id_xfermask() combined with hardcoded mode
printing and configuration which are specific to ata_generic.
Kill the function and open code it in generic_set_mode() using generic
xfermode handling functions.

It's very likely that the configured data transfer mode is the wrong
one if device fails data transfers right after initial data transfer
mode configuration (including NCQ on/off and xfermode). libata EH
needs to speed down fast before upper layers give up on probing.
This patch implement fast speed down rules to handle such cases
better. Error occured while data transfer hasn't been verified
trigger fast back-to-back speed down actions until data transfer
works.
This change will make cable mis-detection and other initial
configuration problems corrected before partition scanning code gives
up.

changes and gets cleared when data transfer command succeeds in the
newly configured transfer mode.

Speed down rules were too conservative. Adjust them a bit.
* More than 10 timeouts can't happen in 5 minutes as command timeout
is 30secs. Lower the limit for rule #1 to 6.
* 10 timeouts is too high for rule #3 too. Lower it to 6.
* SATAPI can benefit from falling back to PIO too. Allow SATAPI
devices to fall back to PIO.

For intel ones, ahci unconditionally OR'd 0xf to PCS. This isn't
correct for the following cases.
* ich6/7m's which only implement P0 and P2 (0xf works fine tho)
* ich8/9's which have six ports and needs 0x3f to enable all ports
This patch updates PCS programming such that...
* port_map determined by ahci_save_initial_config() is OR'd instead of 0xf
* PCS is updated only if necessary (there are turned off enable bits)
port_map is determined from PORTS_IMPL PCI register which is
implemented as write or write-once register. If the register isn't
programmed, ahci automatically generates it from number of ports,
which is good enough for PCS programming. ICH6/7M are probably the
only ones where non-contiguous enable bits are necessary && PORTS_IMPL
isn't programmed properly but they're proven to work reliably with 0xf
anyway.

Jeff said he preferred that the SFF tf_load followed the spec and we
documented that anyone who needed different overrode it, rather than it

ACPI spec (ver 3.0a, p289) requires IDE power on/off executes ACPI _PSx
methods. As recently most PATA drivers use libata, this patch adds _PSx
method support in libata. ACPI spec doesn't mention if SATA requires the
same _PSx method.

Historically word 48 in the identify data was used to mean 32bit I/O
was supported for VLB IDE etc. ATA8 reassigns this word to the Trusted
Computing Group, where it is used for TCG features. This means that
an ATA8 TCG drive is going to trigger 32bit I/O on some systems which
will be funny.
Anyway we need to sort this out ready for ATA8 so:
- Reorder the ata.h header a bit so the ata_version function occurs early
in it
- Make dword_io check the ATA version
- Add an ATA8 version checking TCG presence test
While we are at it the current drafts have a flaw where it may not be
possible to disable TCG features at boot (and opt out of the trusted
model) as TCG intends because it relies on presence of a different
optional feature (DCS). Handle this in software by refusing the TCG
commands if libata.allow_tpm is not set. (We must make it possible
as some environments such as proprietary VDR devices will doubtless
want to use it to lock up content)
Finally as with CPRM print a warning so that the user knows they may
not be able to full access and use the device.

The PDC202xx older devices do not support ATAPI DMA via the usual
interfaces. What documentation I have isn't sufficient to support DMA and
it isn't clear if the Windows drivers do this or it is possible at all.
(Neither do the drivers/ide old drivers)
So turn it ATAPI DMA off, these are disk optimised controllers.

In pata_legacy and pata_winbond we've got bugs - cpu_to_le16() instead
of cpu_to_le32(). Fortunately, both affected suckers are VLB, thus
l-e-only, so we might get away with that unless we hit it with slop == 3
(hadn't checked if playing with badly aligned sg could trigger that).
Still buggy... Moreover, pata_legacy, pata_winbond and pata_qdi forgot to
initialize pad on the write side of 32bit case in their ->data_xfer().
Hopefully the hardware does't care, but still, sending uninitialized
data to it...

CERR reports errors detected during executing a command. This doesn't
mean the error is tied to the command and can be recovered by just
issuing it again. Many of the errors are fatal port-wide connditions
including HSM violation, host bus error and ATA bus error and require
freezing and port reset.
The freezing part wasn't implemented previously. This used to be okay
because port resets were scheduled anyway and EH eventually resets and
recovers the port. With PMP support added, this is no longer true.
The error condition and recover actions are attributed to the fan-out
port and the host port condition isn't properly recovered leading to
EH failures.
This patch makes CERR errors which require resets to freeze the port.
This will force host port reset and proper recovery.

This patch relaxes the default SCSI DMA alignment from 512 bytes to 4
bytes. I remember from previous discussions that usb and firewire have
sector size alignment requirements, so I upped their alignments in the
respective slave allocs.
The reason for doing this is so that we don't get such a huge amount of
copy overhead in bio_copy_user() for udev. (basically all inquiries it
issues can now be directly mapped).

Fix commands timeout with Sil3124/3132 based HBA when pass-through ATA
commands [where ATA_QCFLAG_RESULT_TF is set] are used while other
commands are active on other devices connected to the same port with a
Port Multiplier. Due to a hardware bug, these commands must be sent
alone, like ATAPI commands.

After non-classifying reset, ehc->classes[] could contain
ATA_DEV_UNKNOWN which used to be normalized to ATA_DEV_NONE for
consistency. However, this causes unfortunate side effect for drivers
which have non-classifying hardresets (e.g. sata_nv) by making
hardreset report ATA_DEV_NONE for non-classifying resets and thus
makes EH believe that the port is unoccupied and recovery can be
skipped. The end result is that after a device is swapped with
another one, the new device isn't attached after the old one is
detached.
This patch makes ata_eh_reset() not normalize UNKNOWN to NONE after
non-classifying resets. This fixes the above problem. As UNKNOWN and
NONE are handled differently by only EH hotplug logic, this doesn't
cause other behavior changes.

Turns out distros always enabled burst mode and it is pretty essential so
do the same. Also sort out the post DMA mode restore properly.
My 20263 card now seems happy but needs some four drive tests done yet
(when I've persuaded the kernel not to hang in the edd boot code if I
plug them in ..)

It is legitimate (although annoying and silly) for a PCI IDE controller
not to be assigned an interrupt and to be polled. The libata-sff code

During conversion to new EH, sata_qstor was accidentaly changed to use
softreset, which is buggy on this chip, instead of hardreset. This
patch updates sata_qstor such that it uses hardreset again.
This fixes bugzilla bug 9631.

With ATAPI transfer chunk size properly programmed, libata PIO HSM
should be able to handle full spurious data chunks. Also, it's a good
idea to suppress trailing data warning for misc ATAPI commands as
there can be many of them per command - for example, if the chunk size
is 16 and the drive tries to transfer 510 bytes, there can be 31
trailing data messages.
This patch makes the following updates to libata ATAPI PIO HSM
implementation.
* Make it drain full spurious chunks.
* Suppress trailing data warning message for misc commands.
* Put limit on how many bytes can be drained.
* If odd, round up consumed bytes and the number of bytes to be
drained. This gets the number of bytes to drain right for drivers
which do 16bit PIO.
This patch is partial backport of improve-ATAPI-data-xfer patchset
pending for #upstream.

Implement _GTF command filtering which can be controlled by
libata.acpi_filter kernel parameter. Currently SETXFER and LOCK
commands are filtered.
libata configures transfer mode by itself and _GTF SETXFER commands
can potentially disrupt device configuration. _GTM/_STM mechanism
can't handle hotplugging too well and when _GTF is executed,
controller is in PIO0 rather than the mode _STM configured.
Note that detecting SET MAX LOCK requires looking at the previous
command. This adds a bit to code complexity.

As _GTF commands can't transfer data, device error never signals
transfer error. It indicates that the device vetoed the operation, so
it's meaningless to retry.
This patch makes libata-acpi to report and continue on device errors
when executing _GTF commands. Also commands rejected by device don't
contribute to the number of _GTF commands executed.
While at it, update _GTF execution reporting such that all successful
commands are logged at KERN_DEBUG and rename taskfile_load_raw() to
ata_acpi_run_tf() for consistency.

* If _GTF evalution fails, it's pointless to retry. If nothing else
is wrong, just ignore the error.
* After disabling ACPI, return success iff the number of executed _GTF
command equals zero. Otherwise, tell EH to retry. This change
fixes bogus 1 return bug where ata_acpi_on_devcfg() expects the
caller to reload IDENTIFY data and continue but the caller
interprets it as an error.

On certain implementations, _GTF evaluation depends on preceding _STM
and both can be pretty picky about the configuration. Using _GTM
result cached during controller initialization satisfies the most
neurotic _STM implementation. However, libata evaluates _GTF after
reset during device configuration and the hardware state can be
different from what _GTF expects and can cause evaluation failure.
This patch adds dev->gtf_cache and updates ata_dev_get_GTF() such that
it uses the cached value if available. Cache is cleared with a call
to ata_acpi_clear_gtf().
Because for SATA ACPI nodes _GTF must be evaluated after _SDD which
can't be done till IDENTIFY is complete, _GTF caching from
ata_acpi_on_resume() is used only for IDE ACPI nodes.

_GTM fetches currently configured transfer mode while _STM configures
controller according to _GTM parameter and prepares transfer mode
configuration TFs for _GTF. In many cases _GTM and _STM
implementations are quite brittle and can't cope with configuration
changed by libata.
libata does not depend on ATA ACPI to configure devices. The only
reason libata performs _GTM and _STM are to make _GTF evaluation
succeed and libata also doesn't care about how _GTF TFs configure
transfer mode. It overrides that configuration anyway, so from
libata's POV, it doesn't matter what value is feeded to _STM as long
as evaluation succeeds for _STM and following _GTF.
This patch adds dev->__acpi_init_gtm and store initial _GTM values on
host initialization before modified by reset and mode configuration.
If the field is valid, ata_acpi_init_gtm() returns pointer to the
saved _GTM structure; otherwise, NULL.
This saved value is used for _STM during resume and peek at
BIOS/firmware programmed initial timing for later use. The accessor
is there to make building w/o ACPI easy as dev->__acpi_init doesn't
exist if ACPI is not enabled.
On driver detach, the initial BIOS configuration is restored by
executing _STM with the initial _GTM values such that the next driver
can also use the initial BIOS configured values.

ata_port_detach() calls ata_dev_disable() with host lock held but
ata_dev_disable() should be called from EH context. ata_port_detach()
steals EH context by setting ATA_PFLAG_UNLOADAING and flushing EH.
Drop locking around ata_dev_disable() and note that ata_port_detach()
owns EH context at that point.

link->eh_info.serror is used to cache SError for controllers which
need it cleared from interrupt handler to clear IRQ. It also should
be cleared after reset just like SError itself.
Make ata_std_postreset() clear link->eh_info.serror too and update
sata_sil such that it doesn't care about bookkeeping the value.

Interestingly, sata_sil raises spurious interrupts if it's coupled
with Sil SATA_PATA bridge. Currently, sata_sil interrupt handler is
strict about spurious interrupts and freezes the port when it occurs.
This patch makes it more forgiving.
* On SATA PHY event interrupt, serror value is checked to see whether
it really is PHYRDY CHG event. If not, SATA PHY event interrupt is
ignored.
* If ATA interrupt occurs while no command is in progress, it's
cleared and ignored.
This fixes bugzilla bug 9505.

Spurious NCQ completion detection implemented in ahci was incorrect.
On AHCI receving and processing FISes and raising interrupts are not
interlocked and spurious interrupts are expected.
For example, if an interrupt occurs while interrupt handler is running
and the running interrupt handler handles the event the new IRQ
indicated, after IRQ handler finishes, it will be executed again
because IRQ pending bit is set by the new interrupt but there won't be
anything to process.

* Removes all spurious IRQ whining from ahci. Spurious NCQ completion
detection was completely wrong. Spurious D2H Register FIS taught us
that some early drives send spurious D2H Register FIS with I bit set
while NCQ commands are in progress but none of recent drives does
that and even the ones which show such behavior can do NCQ fine.
* Kills all NCQ blacklist entries which were added because of spurious
NCQ completions. I tracked down each commit and verified all
removed ones are actually added because of spurious completions.
WD740ADFD-00NLR1 wasn't deleted but moved upward because the drive
not only had spurious NCQ completions but also is slow on sequential
data transfers if NCQ is enabled.
Maxtor 7V300F0 was added by 0e3dbc01d5
from Alan Cox. I can only find evidences that the drive only had
troubles with spuruious completions by searching the mailing list.
This entry needs to be verified and removed if it doesn't have other
NCQ related problems.

ICH6 R/Ms share PCI ID between piix and ahci modes and we've been
allowing ahci to attach regardless of how BIOS configured it.
However, enabling AHCI mode when the controller is in combined mode
can result in unexpected behavior. Don't attach if the controller is
in combined mode.

The Highpoint RocketRAID boards using Marvell 7042 chips
overwrite the 9th sector of attached drives at boot time,
when those drives are configured as "Legacy" (the default)
in the HighPoint BIOS.
This kills GRUB, and probably other stuff.
But it all happens *before* Linux is even loaded.
So, for now we'll log a WARNING when such boards are detected,
and advise users to configure BIOS "JBOD" volumes instead,
which don't appear to suffer from this problem.

We need to run any DMA command with result taskfile requested in ADMA mode
when the port is in ADMA mode, otherwise it may try to use the legacy DMA engine
in ADMA mode which is not allowed. Enforce this with BUG_ON() since data
corruption could potentially result if this happened. Also, fail any attempt to
try and issue NCQ commands with result taskfile requested, since the hardware
doesn't allow this.

sata_mv: Fix broken Marvell 7042 support.
The Marvell 7042 chip is more or less the same as the 6042 internally,
but sports a PCIe bus. Despite having identical SATA cores, the 7042
does differ from its PCI bus counterparts in placment and layout of
certain bus related registers.
This patch fixes sata_mv to distinguish between the PCI bus registers
of earlier chips, and the PCIe bus registers of the 7042.
Specifically, move the offsets and bit patterns for the
PCI/PCIe interrupt cause/mask registers into the struct mv_host_priv,
as these values differ between the 6xxx and 7xxx series chips.
This fixes the driver to not access reserved PCI addresses,
and prevents the lockups reported in linux-2.6.24 with 7042 boards.
Also add a new PCI ID for the Highpoint 2300 7042-based board
that I'm using for testing this stuff here.
Tested with Marvell 6081 + 7042 chips, on x86 & x86_64.

None of the drives I have follows what the standard says about
transfer chunk size. Of the four SATA and six PATA ATAPI devices
tested, four ignore transfer chunk size completely and the ones which
honor it don't behave according to the spec when it's odd.
According to the spec, transfer chunk size can be odd if the amount of
data to transfer equals or is smaller than the chunk size and the
device can indicate the same odd number and transfer the whole thing
at one go with a pad byte appended. However, in reality, none of the
drives I have does that. They all indicate and transfer even number
of bytes one byte shorter than the chunk size first; then indicate and
transfer two bytes, which is clearly out of spec.
In addition to unnecessary second PIO data phase, this also creates a
weird problem when combined with SATA controllers which perform PIO
via DMA. Some of these controllers use actualy number of bytes
received to update DMA pointer so chunks which are sized 4n + 2 makes
DMA pointer off by two bytes. This causes data corruption and buffer
overruns.
This patch rounds nbytes up to the nearest even number such that ATAPI
devices don't split data transfer for the last odd byte. This
shouldn't confuse controllers which depend on transfer chunk size as
devices will report the rounded-up number, actually transfer that much
and padding buffer is there to receive them.

sil24 unnecessarily used LIBATA_MAX_PRD and ATAPI sg table was short
by one entry which might cause very obscure problems. This patch
updates sg table sizing such that
* One full page is used for PRB + sg table. On 4k page,
this results in 253 sg's.
* Make ATAPI sg block properly sized.
* Make build fail if command block size doesn't equal PAGE_SIZE.

There are two bugs in disabled port handling.
* test in PORT_PATA0 is reversed
* ->prereset should return -ENOENT for disabled ports not 0
The first bug makes the PATA channel considered disabled but the
second bug saves the day by returning 0. The net result is that cable
is always left at ATA_CBL_UNKNOWN. This results in false 80c
configuration and thus transfer errors.
This patch fixes both bugs.

ICH8 and 9 use two SFF controllers to show 6 SATA ports. The first
controllre hosts the first 4 ports while the second one hosts the last
2. The PCS register of the first controller encompasses the first
four ports or all six ports depending on configuration while PCS of
the second controller controls the last two ports. Using 0xf for the
first controller and 0x3 for the second controller always result in
the correct configuration.

ICH8M on apple macbook pro occasionally locks up completely during PCS
initialization if ports other than the first one are enabled. Add a
separate controller ID and only enable the first port.

Sebastian Kemper reported that issuing CD/DVD commands under libata is
not fully compatible with ide-scsi. In particular, the
GPCMD_SET_STREAMING was being rejected at the host level in some
instances.
The reason is that libata-scsi insists upon the cmd_len field exactly
matching the SCSI opcode being issued, whereas ide-scsi tolerates
12-byte commands contained within a 16-byte (cmd_len) CDB.
There doesn't seem to be a good reason for us to not be compatible
there, so here is a patch to fix libata-scsi to permit SCSI opcodes so
long as they fit within whatever size CDB is provided.

After an error condition, some ATAPI tape drives set DRQ=1 together
with ERR=1 when asking the host to transfer the CDB of the next packet
command (i.e. request sense). This patch, a revised version of
Alan/Mark's previous patch, adds ATA_HORKAGE_STUCK_ERR to workaround
the problem by ignoring the ERR bit and proceed sending the CDB.

Port / host stop calls used to be made from ata_host_release() which
is called after all hardware resources acquired after host allocation
are released. This is wrong as port and host stop routines often
access the hardware.
Add separate devres for port / host stop which is invoked right after
IRQ is released but with all other hardware resources intact. The
devres is added iff ->host_stop and/or ->port_stop exist.
This problem has been spotted by Mark Lord.

In a presentation of true workmanship, pata_ali asserts IRQ
permanantly if the TF status register is read more than once when
there's no device attached to the port.
Avoid waiting polling for !0xff if it's PATA. It's needed only for
some rare SATA devices anyway.
This problem is reported by Luca Tettamanti in bugzilla bug 9298.

Some SH boards (old R2D-1 boards) have generally not had working CF
under libata, due to both buswidth issues (handled by Aoi Shinkai
in 43f4b8c757), and buggy interrupt
controllers. For these sorts of boards simply disabling the IRQ and
polling ends up working fine.
This conditionalizes the IRQ resource for pata_platform and lets
platforms that want to use polling mode simply omit the resource
entirely.

By default ata_host_activate() expects a valid IRQ in order to
successfully register the host. This patch enables a special case
for registering polling-only hosts that either don't have IRQs
or have buggy IRQ generation (either in terms of handling or
sensing), which otherwise work fine.
Hosts that want to use polling mode can simply set ATA_FLAG_PIO_POLLING
and pass in an invalid IRQ.

sata_qstor workaround for spurious interrupts.
The qstor hardware generates spurious interrupts from time to time when
switching in and out of packet mode. These eventually result in the
IRQ being disabled, which kills other devices sharing this IRQ with us.
This workaround isn't perfect, but it's about the best we can do for
this hardware. Spurious interrupts will still happen, but won't be
logged as such, and therefore won't cause the IRQ to be inadvertently
disabled.

One or two ancient drives predated the cable spec and didn't sent the
valid bits for the field. I had hoped to leave this out of libata as a
piece of historical annoyance but a recent CD drive shows the same bug so
we have to import support for it.
Same concept as Bartlomiej's changes old IDE except that as we have
centralised blacklists we can avoid keeping another private table of stuff

The driver used the channel not the device number for deciding where to
load some timing parameters. Also change so that we clear the UDMA field
as the old driver did. Not believed neccessary but does no harm.

There's nothing to be gained by configuring downstream links faster
than the upstream link and such configurations cause problems on
certain PMPs. Limit downstream link speed by the upstream link speed.

In sata_set_spd_needed(), if SControl read failed, it returned 0 and
skipped PHY speed configuration. However, if SControl access fails,
it's far more logical to request PHY speed configuration. Reverse the
logic.

libata EH used to ignore errors not associated with commands when
determining whether speed down is necessary or not. This leads to the
following problems.
* Errors not associated with commands can occur indefinitely without
libata EH taking corrective actions.
* Upstream link errors don't trigger speed down when PMP is attached
to it and commands issued to downstream device trigger errors on the
upstream link.
This patch makes ata_eh_link_autopsy() consider errors not associated
with command for speed down.

Reset failure is a critical error. It results in disabling the link
requiring user intervention to re-enable it. Make reset failure
handling more robust such that libata EH doesn't give up too early.
* Temporary glitches during hardreset may lead to classification
failure when there's no softreset available. Retry instead of
giving up.
* Initial softreset or follow up softreset may fail classification.
Move classification error handling block out of followup softreset
block such that both cases are handled and retry instead of giving
up. Also, on the last try, give ATA class a blind shot.

As jiffies changes asynchronously, it needs to be cached if unchanging
timestamp is needed. The code in ata_eh_reset() intended to do that
with @now but never actually did it. Fix it.

Commands sent to ATAPI tape drives via the SCSI generic (sg) driver are
limited in the amount of data that they can transfer by the max_sectors
value. The max_sectors value is currently calculated according to the
command set for disk drives, which doesn't apply to tape drives. The
default max_sectors value of 256 limits ATAPI tape drive commands to
128 KB. This patch against 2.6.24-rc1 increases the max_sectors value
for tape drives to 65535, which permits tape drive commands to transfer
just under 32 MB.
Tested with a SuperMicro PDSME motherboard, AHCI, and a Sony SDX-570V
SATA tape drive.
Note that some of the chipset drivers also set their own max_sectors
value, which may override the value set in libata-core. I don't have
any of these chipsets to test, so I didn't go messing with them. Also,
ATAPI devices other than tape drives may benefit from similar changes,
but I have only tape drives and disk drives to test.

The original workaround for the Promise ASIC PRD bug
contained an endianess bug which I failed to detect:
the adjustment of the last PRD entry's length field
applied host arithmetic to little-endian data, which
is incorrect on big-endian machines.
We have the length available in host-endian format, so
do the adjustment on host-endian data and then convert
and store it in the PRD entry's little-endian data field.
Thanks to an anonymous reviewer for detecting this bug.

Implement ATA_QCFLAG_QUIET which indicates that there's no need to
report if the command fails with AC_ERR_DEV and set it for passthrough
commands.
Combined with previous changes, this now makes device errors for all
direct commands reported directly to the issuer without going through
EH actions and reporting.
Note that EH is still invoked after non-IO device errors to determine
the nature of the error and resume command execution (some controller
requires special care after error to continue). It just performs
default maintenance after error, examines what's going on, realizes
that it's none of its business and reports the command failure without
logging any error messages.

libata EH always revalidated device and retried failed command after
error except for ATAPI CCs. This is unnecessary and hinders with
users issuing direct commands. This patch makes the following
changes.
* Make sata_sil24 not request ATA_EH_REVALIDATE on device errors.
sil24 is the only driver which does this. All others let libata EH
core code decide.
* Don't request revalidation after device error of non-IO command.
Revalidation doesn't really help anybody. As ATA_EH_REVALIDATE
isn't set by default, there's no reason to clear it after sense data
is read. Kill ATA_EH_REVALIDATE clearing code while at it.
* Don't retry non-IO command after device error. Device has rejected
the command. There's no point in retrying.

ATA_QCFLAG_IO is used to mark commands which are used to perform
regluar IO transfers via block layer. These commands are assumed to
be valid and taken more seriously during error handling. Cache flush
is used by regular IO path and necessary for data integrity. Mark it
with ATA_QCFLAG_IO.

Second-generation Promise SATA controllers have an ASIC bug
which can trigger if the last PRD entry is larger than 164 bytes,
resulting in intermittent errors and possible data corruption.
Work around this by replacing calls to ata_qc_prep() with a
private version that fills the PRD, checks the size of the
last entry, and if necessary splits it to avoid the bug.
Also reduce sg_tablesize by 1 to accommodate the new entry.
Tested on the second-generation SATA300 TX4 and SATA300 TX2plus,
and the first-generation PDC20378.
Thanks to Alexander Sabourenkov for verifying the bug by
studying the vendor driver, and for writing the initial patch
upon which this one is based.

This patch will set the correct bits to turn on Aggressive
Link Power Management (ALPM) for the ahci driver. This
will cause the controller and disk to negotiate a lower
power state for the link when there is no activity (see
the AHCI 1.x spec for details). This feature is mutually
exclusive with Hot Plug, so when ALPM is enabled, Hot Plug
is disabled. ALPM will be enabled by default, but it is
settable via the scsi host syfs interface. Possible
settings for this feature are:

min_power ALPM is enabled, and link set to enter
lowest power state (SLUMBER) when idle
Hot plug not allowed.
max_performance ALPM is disabled, Hot Plug is allowed
medium_power ALPM is enabled, and link set to enter

Device Initiated Power Management, which is defined
in SATA 2.5 can be enabled for disks which support it.
This patch enables DIPM when the user sets the link
power management policy to "min_power".
Additionally, libata drivers can define a function
(enable_pm) that will perform hardware specific actions to
enable whatever power management policy the user set up
for Host Initiated Power management (HIPM).
This power management policy will be activated after all
disks have been enumerated and intialized. Drivers should
also define disable_pm, which will turn off link power
management, but not change link power management policy.
Documentation/scsi/link_power_management_policy.txt has additional
information.

After reset, transfer mode is always PIO0 regardless of
dev->xfer_mask. Check dev->pio_mode before trying to slow down after
configuration failure. This prevents bogus speed down before device
is actually configured.

Forcing PIO0 on reset was done inside ata_bus_softreset(), which is a
bit out of place as it should be applied to all resets - hard, soft
and implementation which don't use ata_bus_softreset(). Relocate it
such that...
* For new EH, it's done in ata_eh_reset() before calling prereset.
* For old EH, it's done before calling ap->ops->phy_reset() in
ata_bus_probe().
This makes PIO0 forced after all resets. Another difference is that
reset itself is done after PIO0 is forced.

On certain device/controller combination, 0xff status is asserted
after reset and doesn't get cleared during 150ms post-reset wait. As
0xff status is interpreted as no device (for good reasons), this can
lead to misdetection on such cases.
This patch implements ata_wait_after_reset() which replaces the 150ms
sleep and waits upto ATA_TMOUT_FF_WAIT if status is 0xff.
ATA_TMOUT_FF_WAIT is currently 800ms which is enough for
HHD424020F7SV00 to get detected but not enough for Quantum GoVault
drive which is known to take upto 2s.
Without parallel probing, spending 2s on 0xff port would incur too
much delay on ata_piix's which use 0xff to indicate empty port and
doesn't have SCR register, so GoVault needs to wait till parallel
probing.

ATA devices in SLEEP mode don't respond to any commands. SRST is
necessary to wake it up. Till now, when a command is issued to a
device in SLEEP mode, the command times out, which makes EH reset the
device and retry the command after that, causing a long delay.
This patch makes libata track SLEEP state and issue SRST automatically
if a command is about to be issued to a device in SLEEP.

Some commands need post-processing after successful completion. This
was done in ata_scsi_qc_complete() till now but this has the following
problems.
* Post-command processing gets executed when qc is completed from EH.
Some qc's are retried from EH with zero err_mask and thus triggers
unnecessary/incorrect post-command processing.
* Command post processing doesn't belong to SAT layer.
* Link-wide revalidation was scheduled where device revalidation
suffices.
This patch moves post-command processing to success completion path of
ata_qc_complete() which is travelled iff the command is going to be
completed without passing through EH and updates post-command
processing such that device-specific action is used. While at it,
restructure code a bit for readability.

P5W-DH Deluxe has ICH9 which doesn't have PMP support but SIMG 4726
hardwired to the second port of AHCI controller at PCI device 1f.2.
The 4726 doesn't work as PMP but as a storage processor which can do
hardware RAID on downstream ports.
When no device is attached to the downstream port of the 4726, pseudo
ATA device for configuration appears. Unfortunately, ATA emulation on
the device is very lousy and causes long hang during boot.
This patch implements workaround for the board. If the mainboard is
P5W-DH Deluxe (matched using DMI), only hardreset is used on the
second port of AHCI controller @ 1f.2 and the hardreset doesn't depend
on receiving the first FIS and just proceed to IDENTIFY.
This workaround fixes bugzilla #8923.

Local variable @action usage in ata_eh_reset() is a bit confusing.
It's used only to cache ehc->i.action to test reset masks after
clearing it; however, due to the generic name "action", it's easy to
misinterpret the local variable as containing the selected reset
method later. Also, the reason for caching the original value is easy
to miss.
This patch renames @action to @tmp_action and make it buffer newly
selected value instead to improve readability.

Most drivers need to set length and offset as well, so may as well fold
those three lines into one.
Add sg_assign_page() for those two locations that only needed to set
the page, where the offset/length is set outside of the function context.

Did a complete audit of these and found we have another error case.
ata_bus_softreset calls ata_check_status which means that it tries to do
an ioread8 on the port blindly and check versus 0xFF for an error.
It should of course be using the ap->ops method for this via chk_status,
and this bug causes a wrog status call on the NS87415 at least.

sata_sis has the same restrictions as other SFF controllers, and so must
use LIBATA_MAX_PRD to denote that SCSI may only fill ATA_MAX_PRD/2
entries, due to our need to handle IOMMU merging.

Short term, this works around a bug introduced by early sg-chaining
work.
Long term, removing this function eliminates a branch from a hot
path loop in each scatter/gather table build. Also, as this code
demonstrates, we don't need to _track_ the end of the s/g list, as
long as we mark it in some way. And doing so programatically is nice.
So its a useful cleanup, regardless of its short term effects.

There are configurations where CONFIG_ACPI but !CONFIG_PM. In this
case, pata_acpi can be selected but won't build. Fix it.

LIBATA_MAX_PRD is the maximum number of DMA scatter/gather elements
permitted by the HBA's DMA engine. It's properly set to
q->max_hw_segments via the sg_tablesize parameter.
libata shouldn't call blk_queue_max_phys_segments. Now LIBATA_MAX_PRD
is equal to SCSI_MAX_PHYS_SEGMENTS by default (both is 128), so
everything is fine. But if they are changed, some code (like the scsi
mid layer, sg chaining, etc) might not work properly.
(Addition from Jens) The basic issue is that the physical segment
setting is purely a driver issue. And since SCSI is managing the sglist,
libata has no business changing the setting. All libata should care
about is the hw segment setting.

The strn_pattern_cmp routine does not handle a blank name parameter
properly. The only patterns which should match a blank name are "*"
and an explicit "". If the function is passed a blank name in current
code, it will always match against the patt parameter. The bug manifests
itself as the device with the empty model name always matching the first
device in the DMA blacklist, forcing it to revert to PIO mode.

This is a driver for the ATA controller on the Geode CS5536 companion
chip. The PCI device ID for this device was previously claimed by
pata_amd.c but the PIO timings were not correct. This driver also
works around a bug in some BIOSes that handle unaligned access to the
PCI config registers poorly. Finally, the driver allows fallback to
using MSR registers for configuration on BIOSes that are truly
broken.

After commands which can change device configuration, EH is scheduled
to revalidate and reconfigure the device. Host link was incorrectly
used unconditionally when scheduling EH action. This resulted in
bogus revalidation request and mismatched configuration between device
and driver. Fix it.

Add the Software NCQ support to sata_nv.c for MCP51/MCP55/MCP61 SATA
controller. NCQ function is disable by default, you can enable it
with 'swncq=1'. NCQ will be turned off if the drive is Maxtor on
MCP51 or MCP55 rev 0xa2 platform.

This patch adds MMIO support to the pata_sil680 for taskfile IOs,
based on what the old siimage does.
I haven't bothered changing the chip setup stuff from PCI config
cycles to MMIO though (siimage does it), I don't think it matters,
I've only adapted it to use MMIO for taskfile accesses.
I've tested it on a Cell blade and it seems to work fine.
