Add delay to make sure that audio urbs are not sent too early.
Otherwise the device hangs. Windows driver makes ~2s delay, so use
about the same time delay value.
snd_usb_apply_boot_quirk() is called 3 times for my MOTU M4, which
is an overkill. Thus a quirk that is called only once is implemented.
Also send two vendor-specific control messages before and after
the delay. This behaviour is blindly copied from the Windows driver.

Some members of the Google_Hatch family include a rt5682 jack codec, but
no speaker amplifier. This uses the same driver (sof_rt5682) as a
combination of rt5682 jack codec and max98357a speaker amplifier. Within
the sof_rt5682 driver, these cases are not currently distinguishable,
relying on a DMI quirk to decide the configuration. This causes an
incorrect configuration when only the rt5682 is present on a
Google_Hatch device.
For CML, the jack codec is used as the primary key when matching,
with a possible speaker amplifier described in quirk_data. The two cases
of interest are the second and third 10EC5682 entries in
snd_soc_acpi_intel_cml_machines[]. The second entry matches the
combination of rt5682 and max98357a, resulting in the quirk_data field
in the snd_soc_acpi_mach being non-null, pointing at
max98357a_spk_codecs, the snd_soc_acpi_codecs for the matched speaker
amplifier. The third entry matches just the rt5682, resulting in a null
quirk_data.
The sof_rt5682 driver's DMI data matching identifies that a speaker
amplifier is present for all Google_Hatch family devices. Detect cases
where there is no speaker amplifier by checking for a null quirk_data in
the snd_soc_acpi_mach and remove the speaker amplifier bit in that case.

A design of ALSA control core allows applications to execute three
operations for TLV feature; read, write and command. Furthermore, it
allows driver developers to process the operations by two ways; allocated
array or callback function. In the former, read operation is just allowed,
thus developers uses the latter when device driver supports variety of
models or the target model is expected to dynamically change information
stored in TLV container.
The core also allows applications to lock any element so that the other
applications can't perform write operation to the element for element
value and TLV information. When the element is locked, write and command
operation for TLV information are prohibited as well as element value.
Any read operation should be allowed in the case.
At present, when an element has callback function for TLV information,
TLV read operation returns EPERM if the element is locked. On the
other hand, the read operation is success when an element has allocated
array for TLV information. In both cases, read operation is success for
element value expectedly.

kernel or later.

The Audioengine D1 (0x2912:0x30c8) does support reading the sample rate,

[168905.185825] usb 3-2.1.2: current rate 30465 is different from the runtime rate 96000
As can be seen from the hexadecimal conversion, the current rate read
back is byte-reversed from the rate that was set.
44100 == 0x00ac44, 4500480 == 0x44ac00
48000 == 0x00bb80, 8436480 == 0x80bb00
96000 == 0x017700, 30465 == 0x007701

commit d75a170fd8 upstream.
We've got a regression report about M-Audio Fast Track C400 device,
and the git bisection resulted in the commit e0ccdef926 ("ALSA:
usb-audio: Clean up check_input_term()"). This commit was about the
rewrite of the input terminal parser, and it's not too obvious from
the change what really broke. The answer is: it's the interpretation
of UAC2/3 effect units.
In the original code, UAC2 effect unit is as if through UAC1
processing unit because both UAC1 PU and UAC2/3 EU share the same
number (0x07). The old code went through a complex switch-case
fallthrough, finally bailing out in the middle:
if (protocol == UAC_VERSION_2 &&
hdr[2] == UAC2_EFFECT_UNIT) {
/* UAC2/UAC1 unit IDs overlap here in an
* uncompatible way. Ignore this unit for now.
*/
return 0;
}
... and this special handling was missing in the new code; the new
code treats UAC2/3 effect unit as if it were equivalent with the
processing unit.
Actually, the old code was too confusing. The effect unit has an
incompatible unit description with the processing unit, so we
shouldn't have dealt with EU in the same way.
This patch addresses the regression by changing the effect unit
handling to the own parser function. The own parser function makes
the clear distinct with PU, so it improves the readability, too.
The EU parser just sets the type and the id like the old kernels.
Once when the proper effect unit support is added, we can revisit this
parser function, but for now, let's keep this simple setup as is.

Currently, the trigger orders SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_PRE/POST
determine the order in which FE DAI and BE DAI are triggered.
In the case of SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_PRE, the FE DAI is
triggered before the BE DAI and in the case of
SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_POST, the BE DAI is triggered before
the FE DAI. And this order remains the same irrespective of the
trigger command.
In the case of the SOF driver, during playback, the FW
expects the BE DAI to be triggered before the FE DAI during
the START trigger. The BE DAI trigger handles the starting of
Link DMA and so it must be started before the FE DAI is started
to prevent xruns during pause/release. This can be addressed
by setting the trigger order for the FE dai link to
SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_POST. But during the STOP trigger,
the FW expects the FE DAI to be triggered before the BE DAI.
Retaining the same order during the START and STOP commands,
results in FW error as the DAI component in the FW is still
active.
The issue can be fixed by mirroring the trigger order of
FE and BE DAI's during the START and STOP trigger. So, with the
trigger order set to SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_PRE, the FE DAI will be
trigger first during SNDRV_PCM_TRIGGER_START/STOP/RESUME
and the BE DAI will be triggered first during the
STOP/SUSPEND/PAUSE commands. Conversely, with the trigger order
set to SND_SOC_DPCM_TRIGGER_POST, the BE DAI will be triggered
first during the SNDRV_PCM_TRIGGER_START/STOP/RESUME commands
and the FE DAI will be triggered first during the
SNDRV_PCM_TRIGGER_STOP/SUSPEND/PAUSE commands.

Fix the register field update. With this, the fifos are flushed every

The initial intent of releasing resources in the .remove does not work
well with HDaudio codecs. If the probe_continue() fails in a work
queue, e.g. due to missing firmware or authentication issues, we don't
release any resources, and as a result the kernel oopses during
suspend operations.
The suggested fix is to release all resources during errors in
probe_continue(), and use fw_state to track resource allocation
state, so that .remove does not attempt to release the same
hardware resources twice. PM operations are also modified so that
no action is done if DSP resources have been freed due to
an error at probe.

Add a state machine for FW boot to track the
different stages of FW boot and replace the boot_complete
field with fw_state field in struct snd_sof_dev.
This will be used to determine the actions to be performed
during system suspend.
One of the main motivations for adding this change is the
fact that errors during the top-level SOF device probe cannot
be propagated and therefore suspending the SOF device normally
during system suspend could potentially run into errors.
For example, with the current flow, if the FW boot failed
for some reason and the system suspends, the SOF device
suspend could fail because the CTX_SAVE IPC would be attempted
even though the FW never really booted successfully causing it
to time out. Another scenario that the state machine fixes
is when the runtime suspend for the SOF device fails and
the DSP is powered down nevertheless, the CTX_SAVE IPC during
system suspend would timeout because the DSP is already
powered down.

commit 4d024fe8f8 upstream.
It turned out that the recent simplification of HD-audio bus access
helpers caused a regression on the virtual HD-audio device on QEMU
with ARM platforms. The driver got a CORB/RIRB timeout and couldn't
probe any codecs.
The essential difference that caused a problem was the enforced
aligned MMIO accesses by simplification. Since snd-hda-tegra driver
is enabled on ARM, it enables CONFIG_SND_HDA_ALIGNED_MMIO, which makes
the all HD-audio drivers using the aligned MMIO accesses. While this
is mandatory for snd-hda-tegra, it seems that snd-hda-intel on ARM
gets broken by this access pattern.
For addressing the regression, this patch introduces a new flag,
aligned_mmio, to hdac_bus object, and applies the aligned MMIO only
when this flag is set. This change affects only platforms with
CONFIG_SND_HDA_ALIGNED_MMIO set, i.e. mostly only for ARM platforms.
Unfortunately the patch became a big bigger than it should be, just
because the former calls didn't take hdac_bus object in the argument,
hence we had to extend the call patterns.

in soc_tplg_fe_link_create() moved the snd_soc_add_dai_link() call before

In case system has multiple HDA controllers, it can happen that
same HDA codec driver is used for codecs of multiple controllers.
In this case, SOF may fail to probe the HDA driver and SOF
initialization fails.
SOF HDA code currently relies that a call to request_module() will
also run device matching logic to attach driver to the codec instance.
However if driver for another HDA controller was already loaded and it
already loaded the HDA codec driver, this breaks current logic in SOF.
In this case the request_module() SOF does becomes a no-op and HDA
Codec driver is not attached to the codec instance sitting on the HDA
bus SOF is controlling. Typical scenario would be a system with both
external and internal GPUs, with driver of the external GPU loaded
first.
Fix this by adding similar logic as is used in legacy HDA driver
where an explicit device_attach() call is done after request_module().
Also add logic to propagate errors reported by device_attach() back
to caller. This also works in the case where drivers are not built
as modules.

As of commit 648e921888 ("clk: x86: Stop marking clocks as

it's using for the codec's mclk. It does this from commit 7735bce05a
("ASoC: Intel: boards: use devm_clk_get() unconditionally"), enabling
pmc_plt_clk_3. However, Strago family Chromebooks use pmc_plt_clk_0 for

fails in the BE .hw_params.
This patches makes sure the dma_data is properly saved in .hw_params,

- Register access: take a lock on regmap config and then on clock.
- Master clock provider: take a lock on clock and then on regmap config.
This can lead to the circular locking summarized below.
Remove peripheral clock management through regmap framework, and manage

commit 85578bbd64 upstream.
For some reason, attempting to route audio through QDSP6 on MSM8916
causes the RX interpolation path to get "stuck" after playing audio
a few times. In this situation, the analog codec part is still working,
but the RX path in the digital codec stops working, so you only hear
the analog parts powering up. After a reboot everything works again.
So far I was not able to reproduce the problem when using lpass-cpu.
The downstream kernel driver avoids this by resetting the RX
interpolation path after use. In mainline we do something similar
for the TX decimator (LPASS_CDC_CLK_TX_RESET_B1_CTL), but the
interpolator reset (LPASS_CDC_CLK_RX_RESET_CTL) got lost when the
msm8916-wcd driver was split into analog and digital.
Fix this problem by adding the reset to
msm8916_wcd_digital_enable_interpolator().

commit dcf08d0f8f upstream.
dsp_box is used to keep DSP initiated messages. The value of dsp_offset
is set by the DSP with the first message, so we need a way to bootstrap
it in order to get the first message.
We do this by setting the correct default dsp_box offset which on i.MX8
is not zero.
Very interesting is why it has worked until now.
On i.MX8, DSP communicates with ARM core using a shared SDRAM memory
area. Actually, there are two shared areas:
* SDRAM0 - starting at 0x92400000, size 0x800000
* SDRAM1 - starting at 0x92C00000, size 0x800000
SDRAM0 keeps the data sections, starting with .rodata. By chance
fw_ready structure was placed at the beginning of .rodata.
dsp_box_base is defined as SDRAM0 + dsp_box_offset and it is placed
at the beginning of SDRAM1 (dsp_box_offset should be 0x800000). But
because it is zero initialized by default it points to SDRAM0 where
by chance the fw_ready was placed in the SOF firmware.
Anyhow, SOF commit 7466bee378dd811b ("clk: make freq arrays constant")
fw_ready is no longer at the beginning of SDRAM0 and everything shows
how lucky we were until now.
Fix this by properly setting the default dsp_box offset.

snd_soc_add_dai_link() returns -ENOMEM when called from

max98090_interrupt() and max98090_pll_work() run in 2 different threads.
There are 2 possible races:
Note: M98090_REG_DEVICE_STATUS = 0x01.
Note: ULK == 0, PLL is locked; ULK == 1, PLL is unlocked.
max98090_interrupt max98090_pll_work
----------------------------------------------
schedule max98090_pll_work
restart max98090 codec
receive ULK INT
assert ULK == 0
schedule max98090_pll_work (1).
In the case (1), the PLL is locked but max98090_interrupt unnecessarily
schedules another max98090_pll_work.
max98090_interrupt max98090_pll_work max98090 codec
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ULK = 1
receive ULK INT
read 0x01
ULK = 0 (clear on read)
schedule max98090_pll_work
restart max98090 codec
ULK = 1
receive ULK INT
read 0x01
ULK = 0 (clear on read)
read 0x01
assert ULK == 0 (2).
In the case (2), both max98090_interrupt and max98090_pll_work read
the same clear-on-read register. max98090_pll_work would falsely
thought PLL is locked.
Note: the case (2) race is introduced by the previous commit ("ASoC:
max98090: exit workaround earlier if PLL is locked") to check the status
and exit the loop earlier in max98090_pll_work.
There are 2 possible solution options:
A. turn off ULK interrupt before scheduling max98090_pll_work; and turn
on again before exiting max98090_pll_work.
B. remove the second thread of execution.
Option A cannot fix the case (2) race because it still has 2 threads
access the same clear-on-read register simultaneously. Although we
could suppose the register is volatile and read the status via I2C could
be much slower than the hardware raises the bits.
Option B introduces a maximum 10~12 msec penalty delay in the interrupt
handler. However, it could only punish the jack detection by extra
10~12 msec.
Adopts option B which is the better solution overall.

commit c366b3dbba upstream.
Klaus Ethgen reported occasional high CPU usages in his system that
seem caused by HD-audio driver. The perf output revealed that it's
in the unsolicited event handling in the workqueue, and the problem
seems triggered by some communication stall between the controller and
the codec at the runtime or system resume.
Actually a similar phenomenon was seen in the past for other Intel
platforms, and we already applied the workaround to enforce sync-write
for CORB/RIRB verbs for Skylake and newer chipsets (commit
2756d9143a "ALSA: hda - Fix intermittent CORB/RIRB stall on Intel
chips"). Fortunately, the same workaround is applicable to the old
chipset, and the experiment showed the positive effect.
Based on the experiment result, this patch enables the sync-write
workaround for all Intel chipsets. The only reason I hesitated to
apply this workaround was about the possibly slightly higher CPU usage.
But if the lack of sync causes a much severer problem even for quite
old chip, we should think this would be necessary for all Intel chips.

Recently we found the headset-mic on the Dell Dock WD19 doesn't work
anymore after s3 (s2i or deep), this problem could be workarounded by
closing (pcm_close) the app and then reopening (pcm_open) the app, so
this bug is not easy to be detected by users.
When problem happens, retire_capture_urb() could still be called
periodically, but the size of captured data is always 0, it could be
a firmware bug on the dock. Anyway I found after resuming, the
snd_usb_pcm_prepare() will be called, and if we forcibly run
set_format() to set the interface and its endpoint, the capture
size will be normal again. This problem and workaound also apply to
playback.

Nvidia proprietary driver doesn't support runtime power management, so
when a user only wants to use the integrated GPU, it's a common practice
to let dGPU not to bind any driver, and let its upstream port to be
runtime suspended. At the end of runtime suspension the port uses
platform power management to disable power through _OFF method of power
resource, which is listed by _PR3.
After commit b516ea586d ("PCI: Enable NVIDIA HDA controllers"), when
the dGPU comes with an HDA function, the HDA won't be suspended if the
dGPU is unbound, so the power resource can't be turned off by its
upstream port driver.
Commit 37a3a98ef6 ("ALSA: hda - Enable runtime PM only for
discrete GPU") only allows HDA to be runtime suspended once GPU is
bound, to keep APU's HDA working.
However, HDA on dGPU isn't that useful if dGPU is not bound to any
driver. So let's relax the runtime suspend requirement for dGPU's HDA
function, to disable the power source to save lots of power.

on PLL2 (MX-64 bit 8) when SPI streaming starts. However regmap
does not believe that register can change by itself. When

read the register first before write, so PLL2 power bit is
cleared by accident.

The check for the mmap support via hw_support_mmap() function misses
the case where the device is with SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_UC, which should
have been treated equally as SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV. Let's fix it.
Note that this bug doesn't hit any practical problem, because
SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_UC is used only for x86-specific drivers
(snd-hda-intel and snd-intel8x0) for the specific platforms that need
the non-cached buffers. And, on such platforms, hw_support_mmap()

As long as I investigated, some devices with BeBoB protocol version 1
can be freezed during several hundreds milliseconds after breaking
connections. When accessing during the freezed time, any transaction
is corrupted. In the worst case, the device is going to reboot.
I can see this issue in:
* Roland FA-66
* M-Audio FireWire Solo
This commit expands sleep just after breaking connections to avoid
the freezed time as much as possible. I note that the freeze/reboot
behaviour is similar to below models:
* Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 I/O
* Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 I/O
The above models certainly reboot after breaking connections.

The current PCM code doesn't initialize explicitly the buffers
allocated for PCM streams, hence it might leak some uninitialized
kernel data or previous stream contents by mmapping or reading the
buffer before actually starting the stream.
Since this is a common problem, this patch simply adds the clearance
of the buffer data at hw_params callback. Although this does only
zero-clear no matter which format is used, which doesn't mean the
silence for some formats, but it should be OK because the intention is
just to clear the previous data on the buffer.

The commit e38e486d66 ("ALSA: hda: Modify stream stripe mask only

application of the stripe mask, but this caused yet another
regression for the previously working devices. Namely, the patch
clears the azx_dev->stripe flag at snd_hdac_stream_clear(), but this
may be called multiple times before restarting the stream, so this
ended up with clearance of the flag for the whole time.
This patch fixes the regression by moving the azx_dev->stripe flag
clearance at the counter-part, the close callback of HDMI codec
driver instead.

We've added the bass speaker support on Acer 8951G by the commit
00066e9733 ("Add Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G model quirk"), but it seems
that the GPIO pin was wrongly set: while the commit turns off the bit
to power up the amp, the actual hardware reacts other way round,
i.e. GPIO bit on = amp on.
So this patch fixes the bug, turning on the GPIO bit 0x02 as default.
Since turning on the GPIO bit can be more easily managed with
alc_setup_gpio() call, we simplify the quirk code by integrating the
GPIO setup into the existing alc662_fixup_aspire_ethos_hp() and
dropping the whole ALC669_FIXUP_ACER_ASPIRE_ETHOS_SUBWOOFER quirk.

The old Nvidia chips have multiple HD-audio codecs on the same
HD-audio controller, and this doesn't work as expected with the current
audio component binding that is implemented under the one-codec-per-
controller assumption; at the probe time, the driver leads to several
kernel WARNING messages.
For the proper support, we may change the pin2port and port2pin to
traverse the codec list per the given pin number, but this needs more
development and testing.
As a quick workaround, instead, this patch drops the binding in the
audio side for these legacy chips since the audio component support in
nouveau graphics driver is still not merged (hence it's basically
unused).
[ Unlike the original commit, this patch actually disables the audio
component binding for all Nvidia chips, not only for legacy chips.
It doesn't matter much, though: nouveau gfx driver still doesn't
provide the audio component binding on 5.4.y, so it's only a
placeholder for now. Also, another difference from the original
commit is that this removes the nvhdmi_audio_ops and other
definitions completely in order to avoid a compile warning due to
unused stuff. -- tiwai ]

SNDRV_TIMER_IFLG_EXCLUSIVE flag with the common variable timeri.
This variable is supposed to be the newly created instance, but we
(ab-)used it for a temporary check before the actual creation of a
timer instance. After that point, there is another check for the max
number of instances, and it bails out if over the threshold. Before
the refactoring above, it worked fine because the code returned
directly from that point. After the refactoring, however, it jumps to
the unified error path that stores the timeri variable in return --
even if it returns an error. Unfortunately this stored value is kept
in the caller side (snd_timer_user_tselect()) in tu->timeri. This
causes inconsistency later, as if the timer was successfully
assigned.
In this patch, we fix it by not re-using timeri variable but a
temporary variable for testing the exclusive connection, so timeri
remains NULL at that point.

When ASoC card instance is removed containing a HDA codec,
hdac_hda_codec_remove() may run in parallel with codec resume.
This will cause problems if the HDA link is freed with
snd_hdac_ext_bus_link_put() while the codec is still in
middle of its resume process.
To fix this, change the order such that pm_runtime_disable()
is called before the link is freed. This will ensure any
pending runtime PM action is completed before proceeding
to free the link.
This issue can be easily hit with e.g. SOF driver by loading and

For Focusrite Saffire Pro i/o, the lowest 8 bits of register represents
configured source of sampling clock. The next lowest 8 bits represents
whether the configured source is actually detected or not just after
the register is changed for the source.
Current implementation evaluates whole the register to detect configured
source. This results in failure due to the next lowest 8 bits when the
source is connected in advance.

When a card is disconnected while in use, the system waits until all
opened files are closed then releases the card. This is done via
put_device() of the card device in each device release code.
The recently reported mutex deadlock bug happens in this code path;
snd_timer_close() for the timer device deals with the global
register_mutex and it calls put_device() there. When this timer
device is the last one, the card gets freed and it eventually calls
snd_timer_free(), which has again the protection with the global
register_mutex -- boom.
Basically put_device() call itself is race-free, so a relative simple
workaround is to move this put_device() call out of the mutex. For
achieving that, in this patch, snd_timer_close_locked() got a new
argument to store the card device pointer in return, and each caller
invokes put_device() with the returned object after the mutex unlock.

The commit ade49db337 ("ALSA: hda/hdmi - Allow audio component for
AMD/ATI and Nvidia HDMI") introduced the spec->pcm_lock mutex lock to
the whole generic_hdmi_init() function for avoiding the race with the
audio component registration. However, this caused a dead lock when
the unsolicited event is handled without the audio component, as the
codec gets runtime-resumed in hdmi_present_sense() which is already
inside the spec->pcm_lock in its caller.
For avoiding this deadlock, add a new mutex only for the audio
component binding that is used in both generic_hdmi_init() and the
audio notifier registration where the jack callbacks are handled /
re-registered.

The devm conversion of kirkwood was incorrect; on removal, devm takes
effect after the "remove" function has returned. So, the effect of
the conversion was to change the order during remove from:
- snd_soc_unregister_component() (unpublishes interfaces)
- clk_disable_unprepare()
- cleanup resources
After the conversion, this became:
- clk_disable_unprepare() - while the device may still be active
- snd_soc_unregister_component()
- cleanup resources
Hence, it introduces a bug, where the internal clock for the device
may be shut down before the device itself has been shut down. It is
known that Marvell SoCs, including Dove, locks up if registers for a
peripheral that has its clocks disabled are accessed.

Przemysław Kopa reports that since commit b516ea586d ("PCI: Enable
NVIDIA HDA controllers"), the discrete GPU Nvidia GeForce GT 540M on his
2011 Samsung laptop refuses to runtime suspend, resulting in a power
regression and excessive heat.
Rivera Valdez witnesses the same issue with a GeForce GT 525M (GF108M)
of the same era, as does another Arch Linux user named "R0AR" with a
more recent GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (GP107M).
The commit exposes the discrete GPU's HDA controller and all four codecs
on the controller do not set the CLKSTOP and EPSS bits in the Supported
Power States Response. They also do not set the PS-ClkStopOk bit in the
Get Power State Response. hda_codec_runtime_suspend() therefore does
not call snd_hdac_codec_link_down(), which prevents each codec and the
PCI device from runtime suspending.
The same issue is present on some AMD discrete GPUs and we addressed it
by forcing runtime PM despite the bits not being set, see commit
57cb54e53b ("ALSA: hda - Force to link down at runtime suspend on
ATI/AMD HDMI").
Do the same for Nvidia HDMI codecs.

noise level somehow correlates with "Headphone Mic Boost", when it sets
to 1 the noise disappears. However, doing this has a side effect, which
also decreases the overall headphone volume so I didn't send the patch
upstream.
The noise was bearable back then, but after commit 717f43d81a ("ALSA:
hda/realtek - Update headset mode for ALC256") the noise exacerbates to
a point it starts hurting ears.
So let's use the workaround to set "Headphone Mic Boost" to 1 and lock
it so it's not touchable by userspace.

The "snd_pcm_substream" handle was not initialized properly
in hda-loader.c for firmware load.
When the HDA DMAs were used to load the firmware,
the interrupts related to firmware load also triggered
calls to snd_sof_pcm_period_elapsed() on a non-existent ALSA
PCM stream.
This caused runtime kernel warnings from
pcm_lib.c:snd_pcm_period_elapsed().

If delay happen before the steps 1 and 2, the DMA buffer will be empty in

Then the step 2 ipc stop will return error as pipeline is already stopped.

In case of WM1811 device there are currently being registered controls
referring to registers not existing on that device.
It has been noticed when getting values of "AIF1ADC2 Volume", "AIF1DAC2
Volume" controls was failing during ALSA state restoring at boot time:
"amixer: Mixer hw:0 load error: Device or resource busy"
Reading some registers through I2C was failing with EBUSY error and
indeed these registers were not available according to the datasheet.
To fix this controls not available on WM1811 are moved to a separate
array and registered only for WM8994 and WM8958.
There are some further differences between WM8994 and WM1811,
e.g. registers 603h, 604h, 605h, which are not covered in this patch.

A small smattering of ASoC fixes for v5.4 - nothing too exciting
here, all small standalone things.
- boot_mem_map is removed, providing a nice cleanup made possible by the
recent removal of bootmem.
- Some fixes to atomics, in general providing compiler barriers for
smp_mb__{before,after}_atomic plus fixes specific to Loongson CPUs or
MIPS32 systems using cmpxchg64().
- Conversion to the new generic VDSO infrastructure courtesy of Vincenzo

- Removal of undefined behavior in set_io_port_base(), fixing the
behavior of some MIPS kernel configurations when built with recent
clang versions.
- Initial MIPS32 huge page support, functional on at least Ingenic SoCs.
- pte_special() is now supported for some configurations, allowing among
other things generic fast GUP to be used.
- Miscellaneous fixes & cleanups.
And platform specific changes:
- Major improvements to Ingenic SoC support from Paul Cercueil, mostly
enabled by the inclusion of the new TCU (timer-counter unit) drivers
he's spent a very patient year or so working on. Plus some fixes for
X1000 SoCs from Zhou Yanjie.
- Netgear R6200 v1 systems are now supported by the bcm47xx platform.
- DT updates for BMIPS, Lantiq & Microsemi Ocelot systems.

The laptop has a combined jack to attach headsets on the right.
The BIOS encodes them as two different colored jacks at the front,
but otherwise it seems to be configured ok. But any adaption of
the pins config on its own doesn't fix the jack detection to work
in Linux. Still Windows works correct.
This is somehow fixed by chaining ALC256_FIXUP_ASUS_HEADSET_MODE,
which seems to register the microphone jack as a headset part and
also results in fixing jack sensing, visible in dmesg as:
-snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x19
+snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Headset Mic=0x19
[ Actually the essential change is the location of the jack; the
driver created "Front Mic Jack" without the matching volume / mute
control element due to its jack location, which confused PA.

A potential bug was reported in the email "[BUG] atmel_ssc_dai: a
possible sleep-in-atomic bug in atmel_ssc_shutdown"[1]
Indeed in the function atmel_ssc_shutdown() free_irq() was called in a
critical section protected by spinlock.
However this spinlock is only used in atmel_ssc_shutdown() and
atmel_ssc_startup() functions. After further analysis, it occurred that
the call to these function are already protected by mutex used on the
calling functions.
Then we can remove the spinlock which will fix this bug as a side
effect. Thanks to this patch the following message disappears:
"BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at
kernel/locking/mutex.c:909"

Merge tag 'leds-for-5.4-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/j.anaszewski/linux-leds
Pull LED updates from Jacek Anaszewski:
"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,
more complete driver exists, based on a generic driver for the AMD
SOCs gpio-controller, supporting LEDs as well other devices:
- drop profile field from priv data
- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper
- leds-lm3697, leds-lm36274, leds-lm3532:

most of them are systematic, but also including cleanups and
modernization
- A bulk of updates for some ASoC platforms, Freescale, sunxi and
Intel SST/SOF
- Initial support for Sound Open Firmware on i.MX8
- Removal of deprecated w90x900 and nuc900 drivers
- New support for Cirrus Logic CS47L15 and CS47L92, Freescale i.MX
7ULP and 8MQ, Meson G12A and NXP UDA1334
USB-audio:
- More validations of descriptor units for hardening against bugs
reported by fuzzers
- PCM device assignment workaround for a past call-order change
- Scarlett Gen2 mixer interface, a few more more quirks
HD-audio:
- Support for audio component with AMD/ATI and Nvidia HDMI codecs
- Clean up HD-audio core and remove indirect access ops for Intel SOF
- DMIC detection at probe; it would make systems automatically falling
back to SST/SOF driver on devices that need DMIC handling.
Needs a new Kconfig to set, and beware that it's still new and a bit
experimental

EDMA requires the period size to be multiple of maxburst. Otherwise the
remaining bytes are not transferred and thus noise is produced.

At higher sampling rate (e.g. 192.0 kHz), Alesis iO26 transfers 4 data
channels per data block in CIP.
Both iO14 and iO26 have the same contents in their configuration ROM.
For this reason, ALSA Dice driver attempts to distinguish them according
to the value of TX0_AUDIO register at probe callback. Although the way is
valid at lower and middle sampling rate, it's lastly invalid at higher
sampling rate because because the two models returns the same value for
read transaction to the register.
In the most cases, users just plug-in the device and ALSA dice driver
detects it. In the case, the device runs at lower sampling rate and
the driver detects expectedly. For this reason, this commit leaves the
way to detect as is.

v5.4 kernel cycle.
Core changes:
- Support hierarchical GPIO irqchips. We now have three
consumers that can use this: Intel IXP4xx, ThunderX and
Qualcomm SPMI GPIO (in the pinctrl subsystem). The support
code has been long in the making and hashed out so it should
be easily adaptable for all hierarchical irqchip parents.
The code only gets compiled in if hierarchical irqchip
is used at the topmost irq controller at least, as the
hierarchical irqchip requires strict hierarchy all the
way up in the system.
- Determine the need for a "valid_mask" for GPIO lines on the
gpio_chip and conversely for the "valid_mask" for the GPIO
interrupt chip interrupt lines by looking for a
.init_valid_mask() callback in the main chip or GPIO interrupt
chip respectively. Allocate it with bitmap_alloc().
- Isolate the device tree/open firmware GPIO description code
out in its own file properly.
- Isolate the ACPI GPIO description code out in its own file
properly.
- Drop a whole lot of #ifdef:s in the main includes: it does
not hurt to keep the include items around, and we get
quicker and clearer compile failures if the appropriate
kernel symbols are not selected for drivers.
New/deleted drivers:
- New driver for Aspeed SGPIO.
- The KS8695 driver is deleted as the platform gets deleted
from arch/arm in this kernel cycle.
- The Cirrus Logic Madera driver now supports CS47L92 and
CS47L15.
- The Freescale MPC8xxx now supports LS1028A and LS1088A.
Driver improvements:
- We pass the GPIO irqchip intialization by directly filling
in the struct instead of using set-up functions (the new
way) for Intel MID, Lynxpoint, Merrifield, XLP, HLWD, Aspeed,
ZX, VF610, TQMX86, MT7621, Zynq and EP93xx.
Out-of-band changes:
- Fix a GPIO header inclusion in Unicore - no response from
maintainer.
- Drop FMC subsystem from MAINTAINERS - was deleted in the
GPIO tree last cycle so let's mop up the shards.

2 bytes in MSB of register for clock status is zero during intermediate
state after changing status of sampling clock in models of TASCAM FireWire
series. The duration of this state differs depending on cases. During the
state, it's better to retry reading the register for current status of
the clock.
In current implementation, the intermediate state is checked only when
getting current sampling transmission frequency, then retry reading.
This care is required for the other operations to read the register.
This commit moves the codes of check and retry into helper function
commonly used for operations to read the register.

This patch set 0Hz to sysclk when shutdown the card.
Some codecs set rate constraints that derives from sysclk. This
mechanism works correctly if machine drivers give fixed frequency.
But simple-audio and audio-graph card set variable clock rate if
'mclk-fs' property exists. In this case, rate constraints will go
bad scenario. For example a codec accepts three limited rates
(mclk / 256, mclk / 384, mclk / 512).
Bad scenario as follows (mclk-fs = 256):
- Initialize sysclk by correct value (Ex. 12.288MHz)
- Codec set constraints of PCM rate by sysclk
48kHz (1/256), 32kHz (1/384), 24kHz (1/512)
- Play 48kHz sound, it's acceptable
- Sysclk is not changed
- Play 32kHz sound, it's acceptable
- Set sysclk to 8.192MHz (= fs * mclk-fs = 32k * 256)
- Codec set constraints of PCM rate by sysclk
32kHz (1/256), 21.33kHz (1/384), 16kHz (1/512)
- Play 48kHz again, but it's NOT acceptable because constraints
do not allow 48kHz
So codecs treat 0Hz sysclk as signal of applying no constraints to
avoid this problem.

This patch supports some type of machine drivers that set 0 to mclk
when sound device goes to idle state. After applied this patch,
sysclk == 0 means there is no constraint of sound rate and other
values will set constraints which is derived by sysclk setting.
Original code refuses sysclk == 0 setting. But some boards and SoC
(such as RockPro64 and RockChip I2S) has connected SoC MCLK out to
ES8316 MCLK in. In this case, SoC side I2S will choose suitable
frequency of MCLK such as fs * mclk-fs when user starts playing or
capturing.
Bad scenario as follows (mclk-fs = 256):
- Initialize sysclk by correct value (Ex. 12.288MHz)
- ES8316 set constraints of PCM rate by sysclk
48kHz (1/256), 32kHz (1/384), 30.720kHz (1/400),
24kHz (1/512), 16kHz (1/768), 12kHz (1/1024)

- Sysclk is not changed
- Play 32kHz sound, it's acceptable

list does not allow 48kHz

Since commit 1137ceee76 ("ARM: OMAP1: ams-delta: Don't request unused
GPIOs"), on-board audio has appeared muted. It has been discovered that
believed to be unused GPIO pins "hookflash1" and "hookflash2" need to be
set low for audible sound in handsfree and handset mode respectively.
According to Amstrad E3 wiki, the purpose of both pins hasn't been
clearly identified. Original Amstrad software used to produce a high
pulse on them when the phone was taken off hook or recall was pressed.
With the current findings, we can assume the pins provide a kind of
audio mute function, separately for handset and handsfree operation
modes.
Commit 2afdb4c41d ("ARM: OMAP1: ams-delta: Fix audio permanently
muted") attempted to fix the issue temporarily by hogging the GPIO pin
"hookflash1" renamed to "audio_mute", however the fix occurred
incomplete as it restored audible sound only for handsfree mode.
Stop hogging that pin, rename the pins to "handsfree_mute" and
"handset_mute" respectively and implement appropriate DAPM event
callbacks for "Speaker" and "Earpiece" DAPM widgets.
