"Just a couple of fixups to the sparse-keymap module and the Microchip
AR1021 touchscreen driver"
* 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dtor/input:
Input: sparse-keymap - send sync event for KE_SW/KE_VSW
Input: ar1021_i2c - set INPUT_PROP_DIRECT
Sync events are sent by sparse_keymap_report_entry for normal KEY_*
events, and are generated by several drivers after generating
SW_* events, so sparse_keymap_report_entry should do the same.
Without the sync, events are accumulated in the kernel.
Currently, no driver uses sparse-keymap for SW_* events, but
it is required for the intel-vbtn platform driver to generate
SW_TABLET_MODE events.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The Goodix panel triggers an interrupt on touch events. However, its
registers will contain the valid values a short time after the
interrupt, and not when it's raised. At that moment, the 'buffer status'
bit is set.
Previously, if the 'buffer status' bit was not set when the registers
were read, the data was discarded and no input event was emitted,
causing "finger down" or "finger up" events to be missed sometimes.
This went unnoticed until v4.9, as the DesignWare I2C driver commonly
used with this driver had enough latency for that bug to never trigger
until commit 2702ea7dbe ("i2c: designware: wait for disable/enable only
if necessary").
Now, in the IRQ handler we will poll (with a timeout) the 'buffer status'
bit and process the data of the panel as soon as this bit gets set.
Note that the Goodix panel will send a few spurious interrupts after the
'finger up' event, in which the 'buffer status' bit will never be set.

Currently, enabling keypad interrupts is one of the first operations
done on the keypad, even before the interrupt is requested, so there is
a small time window where the keypad can fire interrupts but the driver
is not yet ready to handle them. It's fine for level interrupts because
they will be handled anyway, but not so much for edge ones.
This commit modifies and moves the function in charge of configuring the
keypad. Enabling interrupts is now the last thing done on the keypad,
and after the interrupt has been requested by the driver.

was indeed present on the bus or not, this has been replaced by reading

The commit 78bcac7b2a ("Input: add support for the STMicroelectronics
FingerTip touchscreen) used the 'touchscreen_parse_properties()' helper
function in order to get the value of common properties.
But, commit 78bcac7b2a didn't set the capability of ABS_MT_POSITION_*
before calling touchscreen_parse_properties(). In result, the max_x and
max_y of 'struct touchscreen_properties' were not set.

Step config setting for 5 wire touchscreen is incorrect for Y coordinates.
It was broken while we moved to DT. If you look close at the offending
commit bb76dc09dd ("input: ti_am33x_tsc: Order of TSC wires, made
configurable"), the change was:
- STEPCONFIG_XNP | STEPCONFIG_YPN;

In certain situations kernel tracking seems to be getting confused
and incorrectly reporting the slot of a contact. On example is when
the user does a three finger click or tap and then places two fingers
on the touchpad in the same area. The kernel tracking code seems to
continue to think that there are three contacts on the touchpad and
incorrectly alternates the slot of one of the contacts. The result that
is the input subsystem reports a stream of button press and release
events as the reported slot changes.
Kernel tracking was originally enabled to prevent cursor jumps, but it
is unclear how much of an issue kernel jumps actually are. This patch
simply disabled kernel tracking for now.

Normally, when input device supporting force feedback effects is being
destroyed, we try to "flush" currently playing effects, so that the
physical device does not continue vibrating (or executing other effects).
Unfortunately this does not work well for uinput as flushing of the effects
deadlocks with the destroy action:
- if device is being destroyed because the file descriptor is being closed,
then there is noone to even service FF requests;
- if device is being destroyed because userspace sent UI_DEV_DESTROY,
while theoretically it could be possible to service FF requests,
userspace is unlikely to do so (they'd need to make sure FF handling
happens on a separate thread) even if kernel solves the issue with FF
ioctls deadlocking with UI_DEV_DESTROY ioctl on udev->mutex.
To avoid lockups like the one below, let's install a custom input device
flush handler, and avoid trying to flush force feedback effects when we
destroying the device, and instead rely on uinput to shut off the device
properly.

reg_addr->reg_report_rate is supposed to exist in M06, not M09.
The driver is written to skip avoids access to non-existing registers
when the register address is NO_REGISTER (0xff). But
reg_addr->reg_report_rate is initialized to 0x00 by devm_kzalloc() (in
edt_ft5x06_ts_probe()) and not changed thereafter. So the checks do
not work and an access to register 0x00 is done.
Fix by setting reg_addr->reg_report_rate to NO_REGISTER.
Also fix the only place where reg_report_rate is checked against zero
instead of NO_REGISTER.

On some x86 tablets with a Goodix touchscreen, the Windows logo on the
front is a capacitive home button. Touching this button results in a touch
with bit 4 of the first byte set, while only the lower 4 bits (0-3) are
used to indicate the number of touches.
Report a KEY_LEFTMETA press when this happens.
Note that the hardware might support more than one button, in which
case the "id" byte of coor_data would identify the button in question.
This is not implemented as we don't have access to hardware with
multiple buttons.

There's also a new uevent for when a driver is bound or unbound from a

very beginning. Many thanks to Dmitry for being persistent and pointing
out how wrong I was about this all along :)

The PowerA gamepad initialization quirk worked with the PowerA
wired gamepad I had around (0x24c6:0x543a), but a user reported [0]
that it didn't work for him, even though our gamepads shared the
same vendor and product IDs.
When I initially implemented the PowerA quirk, I wanted to avoid
actually triggering the rumble action during init. My tests showed
that my gamepad would work correctly even if it received a rumble
of 0 intensity, so that's what I went with.
Unfortunately, this apparently isn't true for all models (perhaps
a firmware difference?). This non-working gamepad seems to require
the real magic rumble packet that the Microsoft driver sends, which
actually vibrates the gamepad. To counteract this effect, I still

User-modified input settings no longer survive a suspend/resume cycle.
Starting with 4.12, the touchpad is reinitialized on every reconnect
because the hardware appears to be different. This can be reproduced
by running the following as root:
echo -n reconnect >/sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
A line like the following will show up in dmesg:
[30378.295794] psmouse serio1: synaptics: hardware appears to be
different: id(149271-149271), model(114865-114865),
caps(d047b3-d047b1), ext(b40000-b40000).
Note the single bit difference in caps: bit 1 (SYN_CAP_MULTIFINGER).
This happens because we modify our stored copy of the device info
capabilities when we enable advanced gesture mode but this change is
not reflected in the actual hardware capabilities.
It worked in the past because synaptics_query_hardware used to modify
the stored synaptics_device_info struct instead of filling in a new
one, as it does now.
Fix it by no longer faking the SYN_CAP_MULTIFINGER bit when setting
advanced gesture mode. This necessitated a small refactoring.

This driver provides PS/2 serio bus support by implementing bit banging
with the GPIO API. The GPIO pins, data and clock, can be configured with
a node in the device tree or by generic device properties (GDP).
Writing to a device is supported as well, though it is possible timings
can not be halt as they are tough and difficult to reach with bit banging.
Therefore it can be configured (also in DT and GDP) whether the serio
write function should be available for clients.
This driver is for development purposes and not recommended for productive
use. However, this driver can be useful e.g. when no USB port is available
or using old peripherals is desired as PS/2 controller chips getting rare.
This driver was tested on bcm2825 and on Kirin 960 and it worked well
together with the atkbd and psmouse driver.

Fixed the issue that two finger scroll does not work correctly
on V8 protocol. The cause is that V8 protocol X-coordinate decode
is wrong at SS4 PLUS device. I added SS4 PLUS X decode definition.
Mote notes:
the problem manifests itself by the commit e7348396c6 ("Input: ALPS
- fix V8+ protocol handling (73 03 28)"), where a fix for the V8+
protocol was applied. Although the culprit must have been present
beforehand, the two-finger scroll worked casually even with the
wrongly reported values by some reason. It got broken by the commit
above just because it changed x_max value, and this made libinput
correctly figuring the MT events. Since the X coord is reported as
falsely doubled, the events on the right-half side go outside the
boundary, thus they are no longer handled. This resulted as a broken
two-finger scroll.
One finger event is decoded differently, and it didn't suffer from
this problem. The problem was only about MT events. --tiwai

To prepare an upcoming patch adding support for another PMIC that has
different startup and shutdown time, use driver_data of
platform_device_id instead of a fixed extended device attribute.
By doing so, we also remove a lot of nested structures that aren't
useful.
With this patch, a new PMIC can be easily supported by just filling
correctly its ax20x_info structure and adding a platform_device_id.
Moreover, since we get rid of extended attributes, rename
axp20x_store_ext_attr to axp20x_store_attr and axp20x_show_ext_attr to
axp20x_show_attr.

The F54 driver is currently only using the first 6 bytes of F54 so there is
no need to read all 27 bytes. Some Dell systems (Dell XP13 9333 and
similar) have an issue with the touchpad or I2C bus when reading reports
larger then 16 bytes. Reads larger then 16 bytes are reported in two HID

read to report incorrect data. This results in F30 failing to load and the

XBCD [0][1] is an OpenSource driver for Xbox controllers on Windows.
Later it also started supporting Xbox360 controllers (presumably before
the official Windows driver was released).
It contains a couple device IDs unknown to the Linux driver, so I extracted
those from xbcd.inf and added them to our list.
It has a special type for Wheels and I have the feeling they might need
some extra handling. They all have 'Wheel' in their name, so that
information is available for future improvements.

360Controller [0] is an OpenSource driver for Xbox/Xbox360/XboxOne
controllers on macOS.
It contains a couple device IDs unknown to the Linux driver, so I wrote a
small Python script [1] to extract them and feed them into my previous
script [2] to compare them with the IDs known to Linux.
For most devices, this information is not really needed as xpad is able to
automatically detect the type of an unknown Xbox Controller at run-time.
I've therefore stripped all the generic/vague entries.
I've excluded the Logitech G920, it's handled by a HID driver already.
I've also excluded the Scene It! Big Button IR, it's handled by an
out-of-tree driver. [3]

The 5th generation Thinkpad X1 Carbons use Synaptics touchpads accessible
over SMBus/RMI, combined with ALPS or Elantech trackpoint devices instead
of classic IBM/Lenovo trackpoints. Unfortunately there is no way for ALPS
driver to detect whether it is dealing with touchpad + trackpoint
combination or just a trackpoint, so we end up with a "phantom" dualpoint
ALPS device in addition to real touchpad and trackpoint.
Given that we do not have any special advanced handling for ALPS or
Elantech trackpoints (unlike IBM trackpoints that have separate driver and
a host of options) we are better off keeping the trackpoints in PS/2
emulation mode. We achieve that by setting serio type to SERIO_PS_PSTHRU,
which will limit number of protocols psmouse driver will try. In addition
to getting rid of the "phantom" touchpads, this will also speed up probing
of F03 pass-through port.

The stmfts (ST-Microelectronics FingerTip S) touchscreen device is a
capacitive multi-touch controller mainly for mobile use. It's connected

At the current state it provides a touchscreen multitouch functionality up

acpi_dev_found checks that there is a matching ACPI node, but it
may be disabled (_STA method returns 0) in which case the
soc_button_array driver will not bind to it and axp20x-pek should
handle the power-button.
This commit switches from acpi_dev_found to acpi_dev_present to
avoid not registering an input-dev for the powerbutton when there
is a disabled PNP0C40 device.
The ACPI-6.0 standard defines a standard gpio button device using
the ACPI0011 HID replacing the custom PNP0C40 gpio device, many
newer devices define both PNP0C40 and ACPI0011 devices enabling one
or the other depending on whether the BIOS thinks it is going to boot
Android or Windows.
This commit adds a check for the ACPI0011 device, so that if
either device is present *and* enabled we don't register an input-dev
for the powerbutton.

Commit 9b13a4ca8d ("Input: axp20x-pek - do not register input device
on some systems") added a check for the INTCFD9 ACPI device which also
handles the powerbutton as on some systems the powerbutton is connected
to both the PMIC, handled by axp20x-pek, and to a gpio on the SoC, handled
by soc_button_array which attaches itself to the INTCFD9 ACPI device.
Testing + comparing DSDTs has shown that this only happens on Cherry
Trail devices with an AXP288 PMIC, the AXP288 PMIC is also used on
Bay Trail devices but there the power button is only connected to
the PMIC and not handled by soc_button_array.
This means that the INTCFD9 check has caused a regression on Bay Trail
devices, causing power-button presses to no longer be seen.
This commit fixes this by limiting the check to devices where the ACPI
node for the AXP288 contains a _HRV (hardware revision) attribute with
a value of 3 which indicates we are dealing with a Cherry Trail platform.

Pull hw lockdown support from David Howells:
"Annotation of module parameters that configure hardware resources
including ioports, iomem addresses, irq lines and dma channels.
This allows a future patch to prohibit the use of such module
parameters to prevent that hardware from being abused to gain access
to the running kernel image as part of locking the kernel down under
UEFI secure boot conditions.
Annotations are made by changing:
module_param(n, t, p)
module_param_named(n, v, t, p)
module_param_array(n, t, m, p)
to:
module_param_hw(n, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_named(n, v, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_array(n, t, hwtype, m, p)
where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting
hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
be one of:
ioport Module parameter configures an I/O port
iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
irq Module parameter configures an I/O port
dma Module parameter configures a DMA channel
dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value
Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
future use.
A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.
The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.
The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
reasonable default.
What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.
Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.
[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
an already existing field"

Core changes
- Return NULL from gpiod_get_optional() when GPIOLIB is disabled.
This was a much discussed change. It affects use cases where people
write drivers that might or might not be using GPIO resources.
I have decided that this is the lesser evil right now.
- Make gpiod_count() behave consistently across different hardware
descriptions.
- Fix the syntax around open drain/open source to not infer active
high/low semantics.
New drivers
- A new single-register fixed-direction framework driver for hardware
that have lines controlled by a single register that just work in
one direction (out or in), including IRQ support.
- Support the Fintek F71889A GPIO SuperIO controller.
- Support the National NI 169445 MMIO GPIO.
- Support for the X-Gene derivative of the DWC GPIO controller
- Support for the Rohm BD9571MWV-M PMIC GPIO controller.
- Refactor the Gemini GPIO driver to a generic Faraday FTGPIO driver
and replace both the Gemini and the Moxa ART custom drivers with
this driver.
Driver improvements
- A whole slew of drivers have their spinlocks chaned to raw spinlocks
as they provide irqchips, and thus we are progressing on realtime
compliance.
- Use devm_irq_alloc_descs() in a slew of drivers, getting managed
resources.
- Support for the embedded PWM controller inside the MVEBU driver.
- Debounce, open source and open drain support for the Aspeed driver.
- Misc smaller fixes like spelling and syntax and whatnot.

Merge tag 'gpio-v4.12-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio
Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.12 kernel cycle.
Core changes:
- Return NULL from gpiod_get_optional() when GPIOLIB is disabled.
This was a much discussed change. It affects use cases where people
write drivers that might or might not be using GPIO resources. I
have decided that this is the lesser evil right now.
- Make gpiod_count() behave consistently across different hardware
descriptions.
- Fix the syntax around open drain/open source to not infer active
high/low semantics.
New drivers:
Driver improvements:
- A whole slew of drivers have their spinlocks chaned to raw
spinlocks as they provide irqchips, and thus we are progressing on
realtime compliance.
- Use devm_irq_alloc_descs() in a slew of drivers, getting managed
resources.
- Support for the embedded PWM controller inside the MVEBU driver.
- Debounce, open source and open drain support for the Aspeed driver.
- Misc smaller fixes like spelling and syntax and whatnot"
