rtnl_configure_link sets dev->rtnl_link_state to
RTNL_LINK_INITIALIZED and unconditionally calls
__dev_notify_flags to notify user-space of dev flags.
current call sequence for rtnl_configure_link
rtnetlink_newlink
rtnl_link_ops->newlink
rtnl_configure_link (unconditionally notifies userspace of
default and new dev flags)
If a newlink handler wants to call rtnl_configure_link
early, we will end up with duplicate notifications to
user-space.
This patch fixes rtnl_configure_link to check rtnl_link_state
and call __dev_notify_flags with gchanges = 0 if already
RTNL_LINK_INITIALIZED.
Later in the series, this patch will help the following sequence
where a driver implementing newlink can call rtnl_configure_link
to initialize the link early.
makes the following call sequence work:
rtnetlink_newlink
rtnl_link_ops->newlink (vxlan) -> rtnl_configure_link (initializes
link and notifies
user-space of default
dev flags)
rtnl_configure_link (updates dev flags if requested by user ifm
and notifies user-space of new dev flags)

Current sg coalescing logic in sk_alloc_sg() (latter is used by tls and

length matching the start of the current buffer is comparing always the

There are two scenarios that we will restore deleted records. The first is
when device down and up(or unmap/remap). In this scenario the new filter
mode is same with previous one. Because we get it from in_dev->mc_list and
we do not touch it during device down and up.
The other scenario is when a new socket join a group which was just delete

current filter mode instead of restore old one. Here are 4 cases in total.

For ICMP, icmp6_iif needs to be updated to check if skb->dev is an

to what is done for loopback.
For TCP, restore the original tcp_v6_iif definition which is needed in

The skb hash for locally generated ip[v6] fragments belonging
to the same datagram can vary in several circumstances:
* for connected UDP[v6] sockets, the first fragment get its hash
via set_owner_w()/skb_set_hash_from_sk()
* for unconnected IPv6 UDPv6 sockets, the first fragment can get
its hash via ip6_make_flowlabel()/skb_get_hash_flowi6(), if
auto_flowlabel is enabled
For the following frags the hash is usually computed via
skb_get_hash().
The above can cause OoO for unconnected IPv6 UDPv6 socket: in that
scenario the egress tx queue can be selected on a per packet basis
via the skb hash.
It may also fool flow-oriented schedulers to place fragments belonging
to the same datagram in different flows.
Fix the issue by copying the skb hash from the head frag into
the others at fragmentation time.

Commit adc176c547 ("ipv6 addrconf: Implemented enhanced DAD (RFC7527)")
added enhanced DAD with a nonce length of 6 bytes. However, RFC7527
doesn't specify the length of the nonce, other than being 6 + 8*k bytes,
with integer k >= 0 (RFC3971 5.3.2). The current implementation simply
assumes that the nonce will always be 6 bytes, but others systems are
free to choose different sizes.
If another system sends a nonce of different length but with the same 6
bytes prefix, it shouldn't be considered as the same nonce. Thus, check
that the length of the received nonce is the same as the length we sent.

Commit 8b7008620b ("net: Don't copy pfmemalloc flag in

pfmemalloc flag in copy and clone paths.
In __skb_clone(), now, the flag is set only if it was set in the
original skb, but not cleared if it wasn't. This is wrong and
might lead to socket buffers being flagged with pfmemalloc even
if the skb data wasn't allocated from pfmemalloc reserves. Copy
the flag instead of ORing it.

The pfmemalloc flag indicates that the skb was allocated from
the PFMEMALLOC reserves, and the flag is currently copied on skb
copy and clone.
However, an skb copied from an skb flagged with pfmemalloc
wasn't necessarily allocated from PFMEMALLOC reserves, and on
the other hand an skb allocated that way might be copied from an
skb that wasn't.
So we should not copy the flag on skb copy, and rather decide
whether to allow an skb to be associated with sockets unrelated
to page reclaim depending only on how it was allocated.
Move the pfmemalloc flag before headers_start[0] using an
existing 1-bit hole, so that __copy_skb_header() doesn't copy
it.
When cloning, we'll now take care of this flag explicitly,
contravening to the warning comment of __skb_clone().
While at it, restore the newline usage introduced by commit
b193722731 ("net: reorganize sk_buff for faster
__copy_skb_header()") to visually separate bytes used in
bitfields after headers_start[0], that was gone after commit
a9e419dc7b ("netfilter: merge ctinfo into nfct pointer storage
area"), and describe the pfmemalloc flag in the kernel-doc
structure comment.
This doesn't change the size of sk_buff or cacheline boundaries,
but consolidates the 15 bits hole before tc_index into a 2 bytes
hole before csum, that could now be filled more easily.

The low and high values of the net.ipv4.ping_group_range sysctl were
being silently forced to the default disabled state when a write to the
sysctl contained GIDs that didn't map to the associated user namespace.
Confusingly, the sysctl's write operation would return success and then
a subsequent read of the sysctl would indicate that the low and high
values are the overflowgid.
This patch changes the behavior by clearly returning an error when the
sysctl write operation receives a GID range that doesn't map to the
associated user namespace. In such a situation, the previous value of
the sysctl is preserved and that range will be returned in a subsequent
read of the sysctl.

The gen_stats facility will add a header for the toplevel nlattr of type
TCA_STATS2 that contains all stats added by qdisc callbacks. A reference
to this header is stored in the gnet_dump struct, and when all the
per-qdisc callbacks have finished adding their stats, the length of the
containing header will be adjusted to the right value.
However, on architectures that need padding (i.e., that don't set
CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS), the padding nlattr is added
before the stats, which means that the stored pointer will point to the
padding, and so when the header is fixed up, the result is just a very
big padding nlattr. Because most qdiscs also supply the legacy TCA_STATS
struct, this problem has been mostly invisible, but we exposed it with
the netlink attribute-based statistics in CAKE.
Fix the issue by fixing up the stored pointer if it points to a padding
nlattr.

commit c604cb7670 upstream.
My recent fix for dns_resolver_preparse() printing very long strings was
incomplete, as shown by syzbot which still managed to hit the
WARN_ONCE() in set_precision() by adding a crafted "dns_resolver" key:
precision 50001 too large
WARNING: CPU: 7 PID: 864 at lib/vsprintf.c:2164 vsnprintf+0x48a/0x5a0
The bug this time isn't just a printing bug, but also a logical error
when multiple options ("#"-separated strings) are given in the key
payload. Specifically, when separating an option string into name and
value, if there is no value then the name is incorrectly considered to
end at the end of the key payload, rather than the end of the current
option. This bypasses validation of the option length, and also means
that specifying multiple options is broken -- which presumably has gone
unnoticed as there is currently only one valid option anyway.
A similar problem also applied to option values, as the kstrtoul() when
parsing the "dnserror" option will read past the end of the current
option and into the next option.
Fix these bugs by correctly computing the length of the option name and
by copying the option value, null-terminated, into a temporary buffer.
Reproducer for the WARN_ONCE() that syzbot hit:
perl -e 'print "#A#", "\0" x 50000' | keyctl padd dns_resolver desc @s

behavior is to fail when seeing the unknown option "foo", actual
behavior was to read the dnserror value as "1#foo" and fail there):

the ebtables evaluation loop expects targets to return
positive values (jumps), or negative values (absolute verdicts).
This is completely different from what xtables does.
In xtables, targets are expected to return the standard netfilter
verdicts, i.e. NF_DROP, NF_ACCEPT, etc.
ebtables will consider these as jumps.
Therefore reject any target found due to unspec fallback.
v2: also reject watchers. ebtables ignores their return value, so
a target that assumes skb ownership (and returns NF_STOLEN) causes
use-after-free.
The only watchers in the 'ebtables' front-end are log and nflog;
both have AF_BRIDGE specific wrappers on kernel side.

If SACK is not enabled and the first cumulative ACK after the RTO
retransmission covers more than the retransmitted skb, a spurious
FRTO undo will trigger (assuming FRTO is enabled for that RTO).
The reason is that any non-retransmitted segment acknowledged will
set FLAG_ORIG_SACK_ACKED in tcp_clean_rtx_queue even if there is
no indication that it would have been delivered for real (the
scoreboard is not kept with TCPCB_SACKED_ACKED bits in the non-SACK
case so the check for that bit won't help like it does with SACK).
Having FLAG_ORIG_SACK_ACKED set results in the spurious FRTO undo
in tcp_process_loss.
We need to use more strict condition for non-SACK case and check
that none of the cumulatively ACKed segments were retransmitted
to prove that progress is due to original transmissions. Only then
keep FLAG_ORIG_SACK_ACKED set, allowing FRTO undo to proceed in
non-SACK case.
(FLAG_ORIG_SACK_ACKED is planned to be renamed to FLAG_ORIG_PROGRESS
to better indicate its purpose but to keep this change minimal, it
will be done in another patch).
Besides burstiness and congestion control violations, this problem
can result in RTO loop: When the loss recovery is prematurely
undoed, only new data will be transmitted (if available) and
the next retransmission can occur only after a new RTO which in case
of multiple losses (that are not for consecutive packets) requires
one RTO per loss to recover.

On receving an incomplete message, the existing code stores the
remaining length of the cloned skb in the early_eaten field instead of
incrementing the value returned by __strp_recv. This defers invocation
of sock_rfree for the current skb until the next invocation of
__strp_recv, which returns early_eaten if early_eaten is non-zero.
This behavior causes a stall when the current message occupies the very
tail end of a massive skb, and strp_peek/need_bytes indicates that the
remainder of the current message has yet to arrive on the socket. The
TCP receive buffer is totally full, causing the TCP window to go to
zero, so the remainder of the message will never arrive.
Incrementing the value returned by __strp_recv by the amount otherwise
stored in early_eaten prevents stalls of this nature.

ATM accounts for in-flight TX packets in sk_wmem_alloc of the VCC on
which they are to be sent. But it doesn't take ownership of those
packets from the sock (if any) which originally owned them. They should
remain owned by their actual sender until they've left the box.
There's a hack in pskb_expand_head() to avoid adjusting skb->truesize
for certain skbs, precisely to avoid messing up sk_wmem_alloc
accounting. Ideally that hack would cover the ATM use case too, but it
doesn't — skbs which aren't owned by any sock, for example PPP control
frames, still get their truesize adjusted when the low-level ATM driver
adds headroom.
This has always been an issue, it seems. The truesize of a packet
increases, and sk_wmem_alloc on the VCC goes negative. But this wasn't
for normal traffic, only for control frames. So I think we just got away
with it, and we probably needed to send 2GiB of LCP echo frames before
the misaccounting would ever have caused a problem and caused
atm_may_send() to start refusing packets.
Commit 14afee4b60 ("net: convert sock.sk_wmem_alloc from atomic_t to
refcount_t") did exactly what it was intended to do, and turned this
mostly-theoretical problem into a real one, causing PPPoATM to fail
immediately as sk_wmem_alloc underflows and atm_may_send() *immediately*
starts refusing to allow new packets.
The least intrusive solution to this problem is to stash the value of
skb->truesize that was accounted to the VCC, in a new member of the
ATM_SKB(skb) structure. Then in atm_pop_raw() subtract precisely that
value instead of the then-current value of skb->truesize.

In commit 47b7e7f828, this bit was removed at the same time the
RT6_LOOKUP_F_IFACE flag was removed. However, it is needed when
link-local addresses are used, which is a very common case: when
packets are routed, neighbor solicitations are done using link-local
addresses. For example, the following neighbor solicitation is not
matched by "-m rpfilter":
IP6 fe80::5254:33ff:fe00:1 > ff02::1:ff00:3: ICMP6, neighbor
solicitation, who has 2001:db8::5254:33ff:fe00:3, length 32
Commit 47b7e7f828 doesn't quite explain why we shouldn't use
RT6_LOOKUP_F_IFACE in the rpfilter case. I suppose the interface check
later in the function would make it redundant. However, the remaining
of the routing code is using RT6_LOOKUP_F_IFACE when there is no
source address (which matches rpfilter's case with a non-unicast
destination, like with neighbor solicitation).

Taehee Yoo reported following bug:
iptables-compat -I OUTPUT -m cpu --cpu 0
iptables-compat -F
lsmod |grep xt_cpu
xt_cpu 16384 1
Quote:
"When above command is given, a netlink message has two expressions that
are the cpu compat and the nft_counter.
The nft_expr_type_get() in the nf_tables_expr_parse() successes
first expression then, calls select_ops callback.
(allocates memory and holds module)
But, second nft_expr_type_get() in the nf_tables_expr_parse()
returns -EAGAIN because of request_module().
In that point, by the 'goto err1',
the 'module_put(info[i].ops->type->owner)' is called.
There is no release routine."
The core problem is that unlike all other expression,
nft_compat select_ops has side effects.
1. it allocates dynamic memory which holds an nft ops struct.
In all other expressions, ops has static storage duration.
2. It grabs references to the xt module that it is supposed to
invoke.
Depending on where things go wrong, error unwinding doesn't
always do the right thing.
In the above scenario, a new nft_compat_expr is created and
xt_cpu module gets loaded with a refcount of 1.
Due to to -EAGAIN, the netlink messages get re-parsed.
When that happens, nft_compat finds that xt_cpu is already present
and increments module refcount again.
This fixes the problem by making select_ops to have no visible
side effects and removes all extra module_get/put.
When select_ops creates a new nft_compat expression, the new
expression has a refcount of 0, and the xt module gets its refcount
incremented.
When error happens, the next call finds existing entry, but will no
longer increase the reference count -- the presence of existing
nft_xt means we already hold a module reference.
Because nft_xt_put is only called from nft_compat destroy hook,
it will never see the initial zero reference count.
->destroy can only be called after ->init(), and that will increase the
refcount.
Lastly, we now free nft_xt struct with kfree_rcu.
Else, we get use-after free in nf_tables_rule_destroy:
while (expr != nft_expr_last(rule) && expr->ops) {
nf_tables_expr_destroy(ctx, expr);
expr = nft_expr_next(expr); // here
nft_expr_next() dereferences expr->ops. This is safe
for all users, as ops have static storage duration.
In nft_compat case however, its ->destroy callback can
free the memory that hold the ops structure.

This happened through fault injection where aead_req allocation in
tls_do_encryption() eventually failed and we returned -ENOMEM from
the function. Turns out that the use-after-free is triggered from
tls_sw_sendmsg() in the second tls_push_record(). The error then
triggers a jump to waiting for memory in sk_stream_wait_memory()
resp. returning immediately in case of MSG_DONTWAIT. What follows is
the trim_both_sgl(sk, orig_size), which drops elements from the sg
list added via tls_sw_sendmsg(). Now the use-after-free gets triggered
when the socket is being closed, where tls_sk_proto_close() callback
is invoked. The tls_complete_pending_work() will figure that there's
a pending closed tls record to be flushed and thus calls into the
tls_push_pending_closed_record() from there. ctx->push_pending_record()
is called from the latter, which is the tls_sw_push_pending_record()
from sw path. This again calls into tls_push_record(). And here the
tls_fill_prepend() will panic since the buffer address has been freed
earlier via trim_both_sgl(). One way to fix it is to move the aead
request allocation out of tls_do_encryption() early into tls_push_record().
This means we don't prep the tls header and advance state to the
TLS_PENDING_CLOSED_RECORD before allocation which could potentially
fail happened. That fixes the issue on my side.

virtio_net_hdr.csum_start needs to be adjusted by VLAN_HLEN bytes.
Commit f09e2249c4 ("macvtap: restore vlan header on user read")
added this feature to macvtap. Commit 3ce9b20f19 ("macvtap: Fix
csum_start when VLAN tags are present") then fixed up csum_start.
Virtio, packet and uml do not insert the vlan header in the user
buffer.
When introducing virtio_net_hdr_from_skb to deduplicate filling in
the virtio_net_hdr, the variant from macvtap which adds VLAN_HLEN was
applied uniformly, breaking csum offset for packets with vlan on
virtio and packet.
Make insertion of VLAN_HLEN optional. Convert the callers to pass it
when needed.

After commit 6b229cf77d ("udp: add batching to udp_rmem_release()")
the sk_rmem_alloc field does not measure exactly anymore the
receive queue length, because we batch the rmem release. The issue
is really apparent only after commit 0d4a6608f6 ("udp: do rmem bulk
free even if the rx sk queue is empty"): the user space can easily
check for an empty socket with not-0 queue length reported by the 'ss'
tool or the procfs interface.
We need to use a custom UDP helper to report the correct queue length,
taking into account the forward allocation deficit.

fchownat() doesn't even hold refcnt of fd until it figures out
fd is really needed (otherwise is ignored) and releases it after
it resolves the path. This means sock_close() could race with
sockfs_setattr(), which leads to a NULL pointer dereference
since typically we set sock->sk to NULL in ->release().
As pointed out by Al, this is unique to sockfs. So we can fix this
in socket layer by acquiring inode_lock in sock_close() and
checking against NULL in sockfs_setattr().
sock_release() is called in many places, only the sock_close()
path matters here. And fortunately, this should not affect normal
sock_close() as it is only called when the last fd refcnt is gone.
It only affects sock_close() with a parallel sockfs_setattr() in
progress, which is not common.

commit 079096f103 ("tcp/dccp: install syn_recv requests into ehash

created for a new TCP connection.
But this optimization passes any data associated with the last ACK of the
connection handshake up the stack without verifying its checksum, because it
calls tcp_child_process(), which in turn calls tcp_rcv_state_process()
directly. These lower-level processing functions do not do any checksum
verification.

When configuring the number of used bearers to MAX_BEARER and issuing
command "tipc link monitor summary", the command enters infinite loop
in user space.
This issue happens because function tipc_nl_node_dump_monitor() returns
the wrong 'prev_bearer' value when all potential monitors have been
scanned.
The correct behavior is to always try to scan all monitors until either
the netlink message is full, in which case we return the bearer identity
of the affected monitor, or we continue through the whole bearer array
until we can return MAX_BEARERS. This solution also caters for the case
where there may be gaps in the bearer array.

Key extensions (struct sadb_key) include a user-specified number of key
bits. The kernel uses that number to determine how much key data to copy
out of the message in pfkey_msg2xfrm_state().
The length of the sadb_key message must be verified to be long enough,
even in the case of SADB_X_AALG_NULL. Furthermore, the sadb_key_len value
must be long enough to include both the key data and the struct sadb_key
itself.
Introduce a helper function verify_key_len(), and call it from
parse_exthdrs() where other exthdr types are similarly checked for
correctness.

syzbot reported a rcu_sched self-detected stall on CPU which is caused
by too small value set on rto_min with SCTP_RTOINFO sockopt. With this
value, hb_timer will get stuck there, as in its timer handler it starts
this timer again with this value, then goes to the timer handler again.
This problem is there since very beginning, and thanks to Eric for the
reproducer shared from a syzbot mail.
This patch fixes it by not allowing sctp_transport_timeout to return a
smaller value than HZ/5 for hb_timer, which is based on TCP's min rto.
Note that it doesn't fix this issue by limiting rto_min, as some users

Commit b84bbaf7a6 ("packet: in packet_snd start writing at link
layer allocation") ensures that packet_snd always starts writing
the link layer header in reserved headroom allocated for this
purpose.
This is needed because packets may be shorter than hard_header_len,
in which case the space up to hard_header_len may be zeroed. But
that necessary padding is not accounted for in skb->len.
The fix, however, is buggy. It calls skb_push, which grows skb->len
when moving skb->data back. But in this case packet length should not
change.
Instead, call skb_reserve, which moves both skb->data and skb->tail
back, without changing length.

This socket option converts a v6 socket that is connected to a v4 peer
to an v4 socket. It updates the socket on the fly, changing fields in
sk as well as other structs. This is inherently non-atomic. It races
with the lockless udp_recvmsg path.
No other code makes an assumption that these fields are updated
atomically. It is benign here, too, as ip_recv_error cares only about
the protocol of the skbs enqueued on the error queue, for which
sk_family is not a precise predictor (thanks to another isue with

distributes it over all active calls on that connection, thereby
incorrectly aborting them.
Fix this by discarding aborts aimed at a completed call.

llc_conn_send_pdu() pushes the skb into write queue and
calls llc_conn_send_pdus() to flush them out. However, the
status of dev_queue_xmit() is not returned to caller,
in this case, llc_conn_state_process().
llc_conn_state_process() needs hold the skb no matter
success or failure, because it still uses it after that,
therefore we should hold skb before dev_queue_xmit() when
that skb is the one being processed by llc_conn_state_process().
For other callers, they can just pass NULL and ignore
the return value as they are.

[ Upstream commit a752c0a452 ]
DHCP connectivity issues can currently occur if the following conditions
are met:
1) A DHCP packet from a client to a server
2) This packet has a multicast destination
3) This destination has a matching entry in the translation table
(FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF for IPv4, 33:33:00:01:00:02/33:33:00:01:00:03
for IPv6)
4) The orig-node determined by TT for the multicast destination
does not match the orig-node determined by best-gateway-selection
In this case the DHCP packet will be dropped.
The "gateway-out-of-range" check is supposed to only be applied to
unicasted DHCP packets to a specific DHCP server.
In that case dropping the the unicasted frame forces the client to
retry via a broadcasted one, but now directed to the new best
gateway.
A DHCP packet with broadcast/multicast destination is already ensured to
always be delivered to the best gateway. Dropping a multicasted
DHCP packet here will only prevent completing DHCP as there is no
other fallback.
So far, it seems the unicast check was implicitly performed by
expecting the batadv_transtable_search() to return NULL for multicast
destinations. However, a multicast address could have always ended up in
the translation table and in fact is now common.
To fix this potential loss of a DHCP client-to-server packet to a
multicast address this patch adds an explicit multicast destination
check to reliably bail out of the gateway-out-of-range check for such
destinations.
The issue and fix were tested in the following three node setup:
- Line topology, A-B-C
- A: gateway client, DHCP client
- B: gateway server, hop-penalty increased: 30->60, DHCP server
- C: gateway server, code modifications to announce FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
Without this patch, A would never transmit its DHCP Discover packet
due to an always "out-of-range" condition. With this patch,
a full DHCP handshake between A and B was possible again.

For multicast frames AP isolation is only supposed to be checked on
the receiving nodes and never on the originating one.
Furthermore, the isolation or wifi flag bits should only be intepreted
as such for unicast and never multicast TT entries.
By injecting flags to the multicast TT entry claimed by a single
target node it was verified in tests that this multicast address
becomes unreachable, leading to packet loss.
Omitting the "src" parameter to the batadv_transtable_search() call
successfully skipped the AP isolation check and made the target
reachable again.

This re-introduces the effect of commit a32452366b ("vti4:
Don't count header length twice.") which was accidentally
reverted by merge commit f895f0cfbb ("Merge branch 'master' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/klassert/ipsec").
The commit message from Steffen Klassert said:
We currently count the size of LL_MAX_HEADER and struct iphdr
twice for vti4 devices, this leads to a wrong device mtu.
The size of LL_MAX_HEADER and struct iphdr is already counted in
ip_tunnel_bind_dev(), so don't do it again in vti_tunnel_init().
And this is still the case now: ip_tunnel_bind_dev() already
accounts for the header length of the link layer (not
necessarily LL_MAX_HEADER, if the output device is found), plus
one IP header.
For example, with a vti device on top of veth, with MTU of 1500,
the existing implementation would set the initial vti MTU to
1332, accounting once for LL_MAX_HEADER (128, included in
hard_header_len by vti) and twice for the same IP header (once
from hard_header_len, once from ip_tunnel_bind_dev()).
It should instead be 1480, because ip_tunnel_bind_dev() is able
to figure out that the output device is veth, so no additional
link layer header is attached, and will properly count one
single IP header.
The existing issue had the side effect of avoiding PMTUD for
most xfrm policies, by arbitrarily lowering the initial MTU.
However, the only way to get a consistent PMTU value is to let
the xfrm PMTU discovery do its course, and commit d6af1a31cc
("vti: Add pmtu handling to vti_xmit.") now takes care of local
delivery cases where the application ignores local socket
notifications.

With reorder header off, received packets are untagged in skb_vlan_untag()
called from within __netif_receive_skb_core(), and later the tag will be
inserted back in vlan_do_receive().
This caused out of order vlan headers when we create a vlan device on top
of another vlan device, because vlan_do_receive() inserts a tag as the
outermost vlan tag. E.g. the outer tag is first removed in skb_vlan_untag()
and inserted back in vlan_do_receive(), then the inner tag is next removed
and inserted back as the outermost tag.
This patch fixes the behaviour by inserting the inner tag at the right

When we have a bridge with vlan_filtering on and a vlan device on top of
it, packets would be corrupted in skb_vlan_untag() called from
br_dev_xmit().
The problem sits in skb_reorder_vlan_header() used in skb_vlan_untag(),
which makes use of skb->mac_len. In this function mac_len is meant for
handling rx path with vlan devices with reorder_header disabled, but in
tx path mac_len is typically 0 and cannot be used, which is the problem
in this case.
The current code even does not properly handle rx path (skb_vlan_untag()
called from __netif_receive_skb_core()) with reorder_header off actually.
In rx path single tag case, it works as follows:
- Before skb_reorder_vlan_header()
mac_header data
v v
+-------------------+-------------+------+----
| ETH | VLAN | ETH |
| ADDRS | TPID | TCI | TYPE |
+-------------------+-------------+------+----
<-------- mac_len --------->
<------------->
to be removed
- After skb_reorder_vlan_header()
mac_header data
v v
+-------------------+------+----
| ETH | ETH |
| ADDRS | TYPE |
+-------------------+------+----
<-------- mac_len --------->
This is ok, but in rx double tag case, it corrupts packets:
- Before skb_reorder_vlan_header()
mac_header data
v v
+-------------------+-------------+-------------+------+----
| ETH | VLAN | VLAN | ETH |
| ADDRS | TPID | TCI | TPID | TCI | TYPE |
+-------------------+-------------+-------------+------+----
<--------------- mac_len ---------------->
<------------->
should be removed
<--------------------------->
actually will be removed
- After skb_reorder_vlan_header()
mac_header data
v v
+-------------------+------+----
| ETH | ETH |
| ADDRS | TYPE |
+-------------------+------+----
<--------------- mac_len ---------------->
So, two of vlan tags are both removed while only inner one should be
removed and mac_header (and mac_len) is broken.
skb_vlan_untag() is meant for removing the vlan header at (skb->data - 2),
so use skb->data and skb->mac_header to calculate the right offset.

Prior to the rework of PMTU information storage in commit
2c8cec5c10 ("ipv4: Cache learned PMTU information in inetpeer."),
when a PMTU event advertising a PMTU smaller than
net.ipv4.route.min_pmtu was received, we would disable setting the DF
flag on packets by locking the MTU metric, and set the PMTU to
net.ipv4.route.min_pmtu.
Since then, we don't disable DF, and set PMTU to
net.ipv4.route.min_pmtu, so the intermediate router that has this link
with a small MTU will have to drop the packets.
This patch reestablishes pre-2.6.39 behavior by splitting
rtable->rt_pmtu into a bitfield with rt_mtu_locked and rt_pmtu.
rt_mtu_locked indicates that we shouldn't set the DF bit on that path,
and is checked in ip_dont_fragment().
One possible workaround is to set net.ipv4.route.min_pmtu to a value low
enough to accommodate the lowest MTU encountered.

accept socket") has a reference counting issue in TCP socket creation
when accepting a new connection. The code uses sock_create_lite() to
create a kernel socket. But it does not do __module_get() on the
socket owner. When the connection is shutdown and sock_release() is
called to free the socket, the owner's reference count is decremented
and becomes incorrect. Note that this bug only shows up when the socket
owner is configured as a kernel module.

The IPS_NAT_MASK check in 4.12 replaced previous check for nfct_nat()
which was needed to fix a crash in 2.6.36-rc, see
commit 7bcbf81a22 ("ipvs: avoid oops for passive FTP").
But as IPVS does not set the IPS_SRC_NAT and IPS_DST_NAT bits,
checking for IPS_NAT_MASK prevents PASV response to be properly
mangled and blocks the transfer. Remove the check as it is not
needed after 3.12 commit 41d73ec053 ("netfilter: nf_conntrack:

changes nfct_nat() with nfct_seqadj() and especially after 3.13

The function batadv_bla_backbone_dump_bucket must be able to handle
non-complete dumps of a single bucket. It tries to do that by saving the
latest dumped index in *idx_skip to inform the caller about the current
state.
But the caller only assumes that buckets were not completely dumped when
the return code is non-zero. This function must therefore also return a
non-zero index when the dumping of an entry failed. Otherwise the caller
will just skip all remaining buckets.
And the function must also reset *idx_skip back to zero when it finished a
bucket. Otherwise it will skip the same number of entries in the next
bucket as the previous one had.

A more sophisticated implementation could try to combine fragment checksums
when all fragments have CHECKSUM_COMPLETE and are split at even offsets.
For now, we just set ip_summed to CHECKSUM_NONE to avoid "hw csum failure"
warnings in the kernel log when fragmented frames are received. In
consequence, skb_pull_rcsum() can be replaced with skb_pull().
Note that in usual setups, packets don't reach batman-adv with
CHECKSUM_COMPLETE (I assume NICs bail out of checksumming when they see
batadv's ethtype?), which is why the log messages do not occur on every
system using batman-adv. I could reproduce this issue by stacking

Some APs include a non global operating class in their extended channel
switch information element. In such a case, as the operating class is not
known, mac80211 would decide to disconnect.
However the specification states that the operating class needs to be
taken from Annex E, but it does not specify from which table it should be
taken, so it is valid for an AP to use a non global operating class.
To avoid possibly unneeded disconnection, in such a case ignore the
operating class and assume that the current band is used, and if the
resulting channel and band configuration is invalid disconnect.

copy from slab-held data to userspace unless the slab is whitelisted. This
affects rxrpc_recvmsg() when it attempts to place an RXRPC_USER_CALL_ID

generated by usercopy_warn() because the source is the copy of the

Work around the issue by copying the user_call_ID to a variable on the

This was reported by syzkaller, which used a 4k name.

Packet sockets allow construction of packets shorter than
dev->hard_header_len to accommodate protocols with variable length
link layer headers. These packets are padded to dev->hard_header_len,
because some device drivers interpret that as a minimum packet size.
packet_snd reserves dev->hard_header_len bytes on allocation.
SOCK_DGRAM sockets call skb_push in dev_hard_header() to ensure that
link layer headers are stored in the reserved range. SOCK_RAW sockets
do the same in tpacket_snd, but not in packet_snd.
Syzbot was able to send a zero byte packet to a device with massive
116B link layer header, causing padding to cross over into skb_shinfo.
Fix this by writing from the start of the llheader reserved range also
in the case of packet_snd/SOCK_RAW.
Update skb_set_network_header to the new offset. This also corrects
it for SOCK_DGRAM, where it incorrectly double counted reserve due to
the skb_push in dev_hard_header.

rules in nftables a free'd using kfree, but protected by rcu, i.e. we
must wait for a grace period to elapse.
Normal removal patch does this, but nf_tables_newrule() doesn't obey
this rule during error handling.
It calls nft_trans_rule_add() *after* linking rule, and, if that
fails to allocate memory, it unlinks the rule and then kfree() it --
this is unsafe.
Switch order -- first add rule to transaction list, THEN link it
to public list.
Note: nft_trans_rule_add() uses GFP_KERNEL; it will not fail so this
is not a problem in practice (spotted only during code review).

The TCP repair sequence of operation is to first set the socket in
repair mode, then inject the TCP stats into the socket with repair
socket options, then call connect() to re-activate the socket. The
connect syscall simply returns and set state to ESTABLISHED
mode. As a result Fast Open is meaningless for TCP repair.
However allowing sendto() system call with MSG_FASTOPEN flag half-way
during the repair operation could unexpectedly cause data to be
sent, before the operation finishes changing the internal TCP stats
(e.g. MSS). This in turn triggers TCP warnings on inconsistent
packet accounting.
The fix is to simply disallow Fast Open operation once the socket
is in the repair mode.

Previously the bbr->idle_restart tracking was zeroing out the
bbr->idle_restart bit upon ACKs that did not SACK or ACK anything,
e.g. receiving incoming data or receiver window updates. In such
situations BBR would forget that this was a restart-from-idle
situation, and if the min_rtt had expired it would unnecessarily enter
PROBE_RTT (even though we were actually restarting from idle but had
merely forgotten that fact).
The fix is simple: we need to remember we are restarting from idle
until we receive a S/ACK for some data (a S/ACK for the first flight
of data we send as we are restarting).
This commit is a stable candidate for kernels back as far as 4.9.

When processing a duplicate cookie-echo chunk, for case 'D', sctp will
not process the param from this chunk. It means old asoc has nothing
to be updated, and the new temp asoc doesn't have the complete info.
So there's no reason to use the new asoc when creating the cookie-ack
chunk. Otherwise, like when auth is enabled for cookie-ack, the chunk
can not be set with auth, and it will definitely be dropped by peer.

When auth is enabled for cookie-ack chunk, in sctp_inq_pop, sctp
processes auth chunk first, then continues to the next chunk in
this packet if chunk_end + chunk_hdr size < skb_tail_pointer().
Otherwise, it will go to the next packet or discard this chunk.
However, it missed the fact that cookie-ack chunk's size is equal
to chunk_hdr size, which couldn't match that check, and thus this
chunk would not get processed.
This patch fixes it by changing the check to chunk_end + chunk_hdr
size <= skb_tail_pointer().

Now sctp only delays the authentication for the normal cookie-echo
chunk by setting chunk->auth_chunk in sctp_endpoint_bh_rcv(). But
for the duplicated one with auth, in sctp_assoc_bh_rcv(), it does
authentication first based on the old asoc, which will definitely
fail due to the different auth info in the old asoc.
The duplicated cookie-echo chunk will create a new asoc with the
auth info from this chunk, and the authentication should also be
done with the new asoc's auth info for all of the collision 'A',
'B' and 'D'. Otherwise, the duplicated cookie-echo chunk with auth
will never pass the authentication and create the new connection.
This issue exists since very beginning, and this fix is to make
sctp_assoc_bh_rcv() follow the way sctp_endpoint_bh_rcv() does
for the normal cookie-echo chunk to delay the authentication.
While at it, remove the unused params from sctp_sf_authenticate()
and define sctp_auth_chunk_verify() used for all the places that
do the delayed authentication.

If an OVS_ATTR_NESTED attribute type is found while walking
through netlink attributes, we call nlattr_set() recursively
passing the length table for the following nested attributes, if
different from the current one.
However, once we're done with those sub-nested attributes, we
should continue walking through attributes using the current
table, instead of using the one related to the sub-nested
attributes.
For example, given this sequence:
1 OVS_KEY_ATTR_PRIORITY
2 OVS_KEY_ATTR_TUNNEL
3 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_ID
4 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_IPV4_SRC
5 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_IPV4_DST
6 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_TTL
7 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_TP_SRC
8 OVS_TUNNEL_KEY_ATTR_TP_DST
9 OVS_KEY_ATTR_IN_PORT
10 OVS_KEY_ATTR_SKB_MARK
11 OVS_KEY_ATTR_MPLS
we switch to the 'ovs_tunnel_key_lens' table on attribute #3,
and we don't switch back to 'ovs_key_lens' while setting
attributes #9 to #11 in the sequence. As OVS_KEY_ATTR_MPLS
evaluates to 21, and the array size of 'ovs_tunnel_key_lens' is
15, we also get this kind of KASan splat while accessing the
wrong table:

index 1 with new smac 00:aa:22:33:44:55, it fails because of zero flags,
however refcnt gets bumped:
$ tc actions get actions skbmod index 1
total acts 0
action order 0: skbmod pipe set smac 00:11:22:33:44:55

Fix more memory leaks in ip_cmsg_send() callers. Part of them were fixed
earlier in 919483096b.
* udp_sendmsg one was there since the beginning when linux sources were
first added to git;
* ping_v4_sendmsg one was copy/pasted in c319b4d76b.
Whenever return happens in udp_sendmsg() or ping_v4_sendmsg() IP options
have to be freed if they were allocated previously.
Add label so that future callers (if any) can use it instead of kfree()
before return that is easy to forget.

Allow some non-cached routes to use non-expired fnhe:
1. ip_del_fnhe: moved above and now called by find_exception.
The 4.5+ commit deed49df73 expires fnhe only when caching
routes. Change that to:
1.1. use fnhe for non-cached local output routes, with the help
from (2)
1.2. allow __mkroute_input to detect expired fnhe (outdated
fnhe_gw, for example) when do_cache is false, eg. when itag!=0
for unicast destinations.
2. __mkroute_output: keep fi to allow local routes with orig_oif != 0
to use fnhe info even when the new route will not be cached into fnhe.
After commit 839da4d989 ("net: ipv4: set orig_oif based on fib
result for local traffic") it means all local routes will be affected
because they are not cached. This change is used to solve a PMTU
problem with IPVS (and probably Netfilter DNAT) setups that redirect
local clients from target local IP (local route to Virtual IP)
to new remote IP target, eg. IPVS TUN real server. Loopback has
64K MTU and we need to create fnhe on the local route that will
keep the reduced PMTU for the Virtual IP. Without this change
fnhe_pmtu is updated from ICMP but never exposed to non-cached
local routes. This includes routes with flowi4_oif!=0 for 4.6+ and
with flowi4_oif=any for 4.14+).

new entries

strp_data_ready resets strp->need_bytes to 0 if strp_peek_len indicates
that the remainder of the message has been received. However,
do_strp_work does not reset strp->need_bytes to 0. If do_strp_work
completes a partial message, the value of strp->need_bytes will continue
to reflect the needed bytes of the previous message, causing
future invocations of strp_data_ready to return early if
strp->need_bytes is less than strp_peek_len. Resetting strp->need_bytes
to 0 in __strp_recv on handing a full message to the upper layer solves
this problem.
__strp_recv also calculates strp->need_bytes using stm->accum_len before
stm->accum_len has been incremented by cand_len. This can cause
strp->need_bytes to be equal to the full length of the message instead
of the full length minus the accumulated length. This, in turn, causes
strp_data_ready to return early, even when there is sufficient data to
complete the partial message. Incrementing stm->accum_len before using
it to calculate strp->need_bytes solves this problem.

LONG_MAX/MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT in sock_init_data. Calling
mod_delayed_work with a timeout of LONG_MAX causes spurious execution of

When timer_base->clk falls behind the current value of jiffies,
the delta between timer_base->clk and jiffies + LONG_MAX causes the
expiration to be in the past. Returning early from strp_start_timer if
timeo == LONG_MAX solves this problem.

The connection timers of an llc sock could be still flying
after we delete them in llc_sk_free(), and even possibly
after we free the sock. We could just wait synchronously
here in case of troubles.
Note, I leave other call paths as they are, since they may
not have to wait, at least we can change them to synchronously
when needed.
Also, move the code to net/llc/llc_conn.c, which is apparently
a better place.

Adding a dns_resolver key whose payload contains a very long option name
resulted in that string being printed in full. This hit the WARN_ONCE()
in set_precision() during the printk(), because printk() only supports a
precision of up to 32767 bytes:
precision 1000000 too large
WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 752 at lib/vsprintf.c:2189 vsnprintf+0x4bc/0x5b0
Fix it by limiting option strings (combined name + value) to a much more
reasonable 128 bytes. The exact limit is arbitrary, but currently the
only recognized option is formatted as "dnserror=%lu" which fits well
within this limit.
Also ratelimit the printks.
Reproducer:
perl -e 'print "#", "A" x 1000000, "\x00"' | keyctl padd dns_resolver desc @s

[ Upstream commit 175e03101d ]
A single NFSv4 WRITE compound can often have three operations:
PUTFH, WRITE, then GETATTR.
When the WRITE payload is sent in a Read chunk, the client places
the GETATTR in the inline part of the RPC/RDMA message, just after
the WRITE operation (sans payload). The position value in the Read
chunk enables the receiver to insert the Read chunk at the correct
place in the received XDR stream; that is between the WRITE and
GETATTR.
According to RFC 8166, an NFS/RDMA client does not have to add XDR
round-up to the Read chunk that carries the WRITE payload. The
receiver adds XDR round-up padding if it is absent and the
receiver's XDR decoder requires it to be present.
Commit 193bcb7b37 ("svcrdma: Populate tail iovec when receiving")
attempted to add support for receiving such a compound so that just
the WRITE payload appears in rq_arg's page list, and the trailing
GETATTR is placed in rq_arg's tail iovec. (TCP just strings the
whole compound into the head iovec and page list, without regard
to the alignment of the WRITE payload).
The server transport logic also had to accommodate the optional XDR
round-up of the Read chunk, which it did simply by lengthening the
tail iovec when round-up was needed. This approach is adequate for
the NFSv2 and NFSv3 WRITE decoders.
Unfortunately it is not sufficient for nfsd4_decode_write. When the
Read chunk length is a couple of bytes less than PAGE_SIZE, the
computation at the end of nfsd4_decode_write allows argp->pagelen to
go negative, which breaks the logic in read_buf that looks for the
tail iovec.
The result is that a WRITE operation whose payload length is just
less than a multiple of a page succeeds, but the subsequent GETATTR
in the same compound fails with NFS4ERR_OP_ILLEGAL because the XDR
decoder can't find it. Clients ignore the error, but they must
update their attribute cache via a separate round trip.
As nfsd4_decode_write appears to expect the payload itself to always
have appropriate XDR round-up, have svc_rdma_build_normal_read_chunk
add the Read chunk XDR round-up to the page_len rather than
lengthening the tail iovec.

Failures were seen in ICMPv6 fragmentation timeout tests if they were
run after the RFC2460 failure tests. Kernel was not sending out the
ICMPv6 fragment reassembly time exceeded packet after the fragmentation
reassembly timeout of 1 minute had elapsed.
This happened because the frag queue was not released if an error in

[ Upstream commit 9382fe71c0 ]
IPv4 and IPv6 packets may arrive with lower-layer padding that is not
included in the L3 length. For example, a short IPv4 packet may have
up to 6 bytes of padding following the IP payload when received on an
Ethernet device with a minimum packet length of 64 bytes.
Higher-layer processing functions in netfilter (e.g. nf_ip_checksum(),
and help() in nf_conntrack_ftp) assume skb->len reflects the length of
the L3 header and payload, rather than referring back to
ip_hdr->tot_len or ipv6_hdr->payload_len, and get confused by
lower-layer padding.
In the normal IPv4 receive path, ip_rcv() trims the packet to
ip_hdr->tot_len before invoking netfilter hooks. In the IPv6 receive
path, ip6_rcv() does the same using ipv6_hdr->payload_len. Similarly
in the br_netfilter receive path, br_validate_ipv4() and
br_validate_ipv6() trim the packet to the L3 length before invoking
netfilter hooks.
Currently in the OVS conntrack receive path, ovs_ct_execute() pulls
the skb to the L3 header but does not trim it to the L3 length before
calling nf_conntrack_in(NF_INET_PRE_ROUTING). When
nf_conntrack_proto_tcp encounters a packet with lower-layer padding,
nf_ip_checksum() fails causing a "nf_ct_tcp: bad TCP checksum" log
message. While extra zero bytes don't affect the checksum, the length
in the IP pseudoheader does. That length is based on skb->len, and
without trimming, it doesn't match the length the sender used when
computing the checksum.
In ovs_ct_execute(), trim the skb to the L3 length before higher-layer
processing.

Add suffix ULL to constant 80000 in order to avoid a potential integer
overflow and give the compiler complete information about the proper
arithmetic to use. Notice that this constant is used in a context that
expects an expression of type u64.
The current cast to u64 effectively applies to the whole expression
as an argument of type u64 to be passed to div64_u64, but it does
not prevent it from being evaluated using 32-bit arithmetic instead
of 64-bit arithmetic.
Also, once the expression is properly evaluated using 64-bit arithmentic,
there is no need for the parentheses and the external cast to u64.

The backchannel code uses rpcrdma_recv_buffer_put to add new reps
to the free rep list. This also decrements rb_recv_count, which
spoofs the receive overrun logic in rpcrdma_buffer_get_rep.
Commit 9b06688bc3 ("xprtrdma: Fix additional uses of
spin_lock_irqsave(rb_lock)") replaced the original open-coded
list_add with a call to rpcrdma_recv_buffer_put(), but then a year
later, commit 05c974669e ("xprtrdma: Fix receive buffer
accounting") added rep accounting to rpcrdma_recv_buffer_put.
It was an oversight to let the backchannel continue to use this
function.
The fix this, let's combine the "add to free list" logic with
rpcrdma_create_rep.
Also, do not allocate RPCRDMA_MAX_BC_REQUESTS rpcrdma_reps in
rpcrdma_buffer_create and then allocate additional rpcrdma_reps in
rpcrdma_bc_setup_reps. Allocating the extra reps during backchannel
set-up is sufficient.
