Make sure to drop the references taken by of_parse_phandle() and
bus_find_device() before returning from am335x_get_phy_control().
Note that there is no guarantee that the devres-managed struct

The TX settings can be calibrated for particular hardware. The
phy is reset by Linux, so this cannot be handled by the bootloader.
The TRM mentions that the maximum resistance should be used for the
DN/DP calibration in order to pass USB certification.
The values for the TX registers are poorly described in the TRM.

As the last known user, ie. pxa27x_udc relying on calls to
usb_gadget_xxx() was amended to use the phy notifier, remove a bit the
USB stack adherence.
Actually the driver still uses the gadget API for structures definition,
but the implementation of USB gadget specific function usb_gadget_*() is
not necessary anymore.

In the gpio based case, the status of the phy is known at start by
reading the VBus gpio.
Actually, this is a fix, as this initial state, when not set up,
prevents a gadget to answer to the enumeration phase, as there is no
notification in this case (the VBus is already high when kernel boots)
so no interrupt is triggered, and the flow is :
- gadget initializes
- gadget gets its phy-generic with a xxx_get_phy_xxx() call type
- gadget does a "set_peripheral()" call type
=> here if the otg->state is correctly filled, the proper vbus
handling will be called, and the gadget will be aware it should
answer enumeration and go forth
Without this fix, the USB cable must be removed and replugged for any
gadget relying on phy-generic and its gpio vbus handling to work.
The problem was seen on a pxa27x architecture based board on a
devicetree build.

Some SoCs have a single phy-hw-block with multiple phys, this is
modelled by a single phy dts node, so we end up with multiple
controller nodes with a phys property pointing to the phy-node
of the otg-phy.
Only one of these controllers typically is an otg controller, yet we
were checking the first controller who uses a phy from the block and
then end up looking for a dr_mode property in e.g. the ehci controller.
This commit fixes this by adding an arg0 parameter to
of_usb_get_dr_mode_by_phy and make of_usb_get_dr_mode_by_phy
check that this matches the phandle args[0] value when looking for
the otg controller.

instead of defining all functions as static inlines,
let's move them to udc-core and export them with
EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL, that way we can make sure that
only GPL drivers will use them.
As a side effect, it'll be nicer to add tracepoints
to the gadget API.
While at that, also fix Kconfig dependencies to
avoid randconfig build failures.

At least on n900 we have phy-twl4030-usb only generating cable
interrupts, and then have a separate USB PHY.
In order for musb to know the real cable status, we need to
clear any cached state until musb is ready. Otherwise the cable
status interrupts will get just ignored if the status does
not change from the initial state.
To do this, let's add a return value to musb_mailbox(), and
reset cached linkstat to MUSB_UNKNOWN on error. Sorry to cause
a bit of churn here, I should have added that already last time
patching musb_mailbox().

According to Mark Brown, this is the result of various abuses
of the PHY interfaces [1], so let's fix the driver instead.
This puts the regulator bulk data into the device structure so it
gets properly initialized and lets us call regulator_bulk_enable()
and regulator_bulk_disable() rather than open-coding them.
Setting the voltages the way the driver does is rather pointless
because for each regulator there is only one valid voltage
range, so that can just get set up in the DT. As there doesn't
seem to be any user of the newly added driver yet, we can simply
make sure the DTs are setting this up right when they get added.
I'm also fixing the handling of regulator_bulk_enable() failure.
Right now, the driver just ignores any failure, which doesn't make
sense, so I'm changing it to loudly complain (in case we actually
had a bug here) and error out.
Doing a fly-by review of the driver, I notice a couple of other
problems that I'm not addressing here:
- It really should not have been written as a USB PHY driver, but
instead should use the PHY subsystem.
- The DT compatible string does not follow the usual conventions,
and it should have a proper identifier in it rather than a wildcard.
- The example in the devicetree binding lists a register address
that is the same as the actual EHCI host controller in the SoC
as well as the otg-snps and the ci-hdrc device, which indicates
that these are probably not even distinct devices (or all but
one of them are wrong), and if more than one of them tries to
request the resources correctly, they fail.

When working in Dual Role Device mode, USB state machine is not kicked,
when host or gadget drivers are loaded. Fix this be explicitly triggering
state detection on client driver load.
Issue is that if the board is booted without micro usb cable and usb
device attached, kernel fails to populate the usb host and device.
The reason for this is that the state machine worker logic only checks
for USB_DR_MODE_PERIPHERAL and USB_DR_MODE_HOST modes to run worker
thread. However if the phy is configured in OTG mode it would fail
to run the state machine, resulting in failure to detect for very
first time.
This patch fixes the issue by removing the explicit checks.
Issue is noticed on Qualcomm Dragon board DB410C.

This driver registers for extcon events as part of its probe, but
never unregisters them in case of error in the probe path.
There were multiple issues noticed due to this missing error handling.
One of them is random crashes if the regulators are not ready yet by the
time probe is invoked.
Ivan's previous attempt [1] to fix this issue, did not really address
all the failure cases like regualtor/get_irq failures.

We currently can't unload omap2430 MUSB platform glue driver module and
this cause issues for fixing the MUSB code further. The reason we can't
remove omap2430 is because it uses the PHY functions and also exports the
omap_musb_mailbox function that some PHY drivers are using.
Let's fix the issue by exporting a more generic musb_mailbox function
from the MUSB core and allow platform glue layers to register phy_callback
function as needed.
And now we can now also get rid of the include/linux/musb-omap.h.

To prevent VBUS contention, the am335x MUSB phy senses VBUS first before
transitioning to host mode. However, for host-only mode, VBUS could be
directly tied to 5V power rail which could prevent MUSB transitions to
host mode.
This change receives dr_mode of the controller then bypass the first
VBUS sensing for host-only mode, so that MUSB can work in host mode
event if VBUS is tied to 5V.

As of commit 3d7608e4c1 ("ARM: shmobile: bockw: remove legacy
board file and config"), the Renesas R-Car (Gen1) USB PHY driver is no
longer used.
In theory it could still be used on R-Car Gen1 SoCs, but that would
require adding DT support to the driver. Instead, a new driver using the
generic PHY framework should be written, as was done for R-Car Gen2.
Remove the driver for good.

When choose randconfig for kernel build, it reports below warning:

The I2C core always reports the MODALIAS uevent as "i2c:<client name"
regardless if the device was registered using OF or platform code so
So the driver needs to export the I2C table and this be built into
the module or udev won't have the necessary information to auto load
the module when the device is added.

The gpio-desc migration done in v4.0 caused a regression
with legacy boots due to reversed reset logic.
e.g. omap3-beagle USB host breaks on legacy boot.
Request the reset GPIO with GPIOF_ACTIVE_LOW flag so that
it matches the driver logic and pin behaviour.

Since 39b2bbe3d7 (gpio: add flags argument to gpiod_get*() functions)
which appeared in v3.17-rc1, the gpiod_get* functions take an additional
parameter that allows to specify direction and initial value for output.
Currently this parameter is made optional with the help of a cpp trick.
To allow dropping this hack convert callers to explictly pass a value
for flags.

Triggering suspend to RAM via sysfs on a i.MX28 causes a NULL pointer
dereference. This patch avoids the oops in mxs_phy_get_vbus_status()
by aborting since there is no syscon available.

'enum extcon' type. Because unique id would be used on devictree file(*.dts) to
indicate the specific external connectors like key number of input framework.

Split the "get phy from device_node" functionality out of
"get phy by phandle" so it can be used directly.
This is useful when a battery-charger is intimately associated with a
particular phy but handled by a separate driver. The charger
can find the device_node based on sibling relationships
without the need for a redundant declaration in the devicetree
description.
As a peripheral that gets a phy will often want to register a
notifier block, and de-register it later, that functionality
is included so the de-registration is automatic.

threaded IRQs without a primary handler need to be requested with
IRQF_ONESHOT, otherwise the request will fail.
So pass the IRQF_ONESHOT flag in this case.

The GPIO subsystem provides dummy GPIO consumer functions if GPIOLIB is
not enabled. Hence drivers that depend on GPIOLIB, but use GPIO consumer
functionality only, can still be compiled if GPIOLIB is not enabled.
Relax the dependency on GPIOLIB if COMPILE_TEST is enabled, where
appropriate.

VBUS is not routed to USB PHY on recent Qualcomm platforms. USB controller
must see VBUS in order to pull-up DP when setting RS bit. Henc configure
USB PHY and LINK registers sense VBUS and enable manual pullup on D+ line.

The isp1301-omap driver contains special hooks for the TPS65010
power management controller. It provides its own 'tps65010_set_vbus_draw'
wrapper in case that driver is not enabled through Kconfig, but
fails to handle the case where isp1301-omap is built-in but TPS65010
is a loadable module, which currently results in a link error:

This is a workaround to use the same trick as before also when
tps65010 is a module. Doing a proper fix would require much larger

Commit 9eb0797722 ("usb: phy: generic: fix the gpios to be optional")
calls gpiod_direction_output() in the probe function, so there is no need to
call it again, as we can simply call gpiod_set_value() directly.
Also, in usb_gen_phy_shutdown() we can simply put the GPIO directly in its
active level state and this allows us to simplify the nop_reset function to
treat only the reset case.

This hang happens because the reset GPIO stays at logic level 0.
The USB PHY reset gpio is defined in the dts file as:
reset-gpios = <&gpio2 5 GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW>;
, which means it is active low, so what the gpio reset pin needs to do in this
case is the following:
- Go to logic level 0 to reset the USB PHY
- Stay at 0 for a bit
- Go back to logic level 1
When switching to gpiod API we need to following according to
Documentation/gpio/consumer.txt:
"The first thing a driver must do with a GPIO is setting its direction. If no
direction-setting flags have been given to gpiod_get*(), this is done by
invoking one of the gpiod_direction_*() functions:

Since no direction-setting flags have been given to devm_gpiod_get_optional()
in our case, we need to use gpiod_direction_output to comply with the gpiod API.

Declare the interrupt as "one shot" so that it is masked until the end
of the threaded handler. This prevents the irq core from spitting out an
error :

There is a request from IC engineer that if we doesn't
set phypwd as 0xffffffff, we need to delay about five
32Khz cycles before set phy's pwd register, otherwise,
the wakeup signal may can't wake up controller.

At very rare cases, the SoF will not send out after resume with
low speed connection. The workaround is do not power down

For non-otg mode, we keep the usage of disconnect line between phy analog
and digital unchanging; for otg mode, at peripheral role, we keep the usage
unchanging too, at host role, the digital part needs to know dp/dm change
to respond device's data pulse when it is at low power mode.

In practice failure to find phy when requested in non-OF
case means it will never become available, so
__usb_find_phy() must return -ENODEV and not -EPROBE_DEFER.
This fixes a regression caused by commit 9c9d82492b
(usb: phy: Fix deferred probing), where the USB
controller driver is left infinitely into deferred probe
when there are no phys.

Change internal gpio handling from integer gpios into gpio
descriptors. This change only addresses the internal API and
device-tree/ACPI, while the legacy platform data remains integer space
based.
This change is only build compile tested, and very prone to error. I
leave this comment for now in the commit message so that this patch gets
some testing as I'm pretty sure it's buggy.

For some user cases, like plug out and replug in usb device during
the system suspend, the speed negotiation will be error due to host
doesn't know the device's disconnection, and it still hopes the
high speed device, but the device backs to "powered" state which
its high speed termination is not enabled, the usb core calls
the PHY's disconnect notifier with "full speed", it will NOT
take effect at all.
If the usb core calls disconnect notifer, the port change must happen,
so it is safe to disable high speed disconenct detector, since
connect notifier will be called soon if the device is still connected
on the port, and we will enable high speed disconnect detector at that
time.

Commit 1290a958d4 ("usb: phy: propagate __of_usb_find_phy()'s error on
failure") actually broke the deferred probing mechanism, since it now returns
EPROBE_DEFER only when the try_module_get call fails, but not when the phy
lookup does.
All the other similar functions seem to return ENODEV when try_module_get
fails, and the error code of either __usb_find_phy or __of_usb_find_phy
otherwise.
In order to have a consistent behaviour, and a meaningful EPROBE_DEFER, always
return EPROBE_DEFER when __(of_)usb_find_phy fails to look up the requested
phy, that will be propagated by the caller, and ENODEV if try_module_get fails.

Commit 1290a958d4 ("usb: phy: propagate __of_usb_find_phy()'s error on
failure") broke platforms that rely on deferred probing to order probing
of PHY and host controller drivers. The reason is that the commit simply
propagates errors from __of_usb_find_phy(), which returns -ENODEV if no
PHY has been registered yet for a given device tree node. The only case
in which -EPROBE_DEFER would now be returned is if try_module_get() did
fail, which does not make sense.
The correct thing to do is to return -EPROBE_DEFER if a PHY hasn't been
registered yet. The only condition under which it makes sense to return
-ENODEV is if the device tree node representing the PHY has been
disabled (via the status property) because in that case the PHY will
never be registered.
This patch addresses the problem by making __of_usb_find_phy() return an
appropriate error code while keeping in line with the above-mentioned
commit to propagate error codes rather than overwriting them. At the
same time the check for a valid PHY is decoupled from the check for the
try_module_get() call and a separate error code is returned if the
latter fails.

the tree (or drop it where that can be done) in order to make
it possible to eliminate CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME (Rafael J Wysocki,

"CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME removal" batch after this one, because some
new uses of it have been introduced during the current merge
window, but that should be sufficient to finally get rid of it.
- Make the ACPI EC driver more robust against race conditions
related to GPE handler installation failures (Lv Zheng).
- Prevent the ACPI device PM core code from attempting to
disable GPEs that it has not enabled which confuses ACPICA
and makes it report errors unnecessarily (Rafael J Wysocki).
- Add a "force" command line switch to the intel_pstate driver
to make it possible to override the blacklisting of some
systems in that driver if needed (Ethan Zhao).
- Improve intel_pstate code documentation and add a MAINTAINERS
entry for it (Kristen Carlson Accardi).
- Make the ACPI fan driver create cooling device interfaces
witn names that reflect the IDs of the ACPI device objects
they are associated with, except for "generic" ACPI fans
(PNP ID "PNP0C0B"). That's necessary for user space thermal
management tools to be able to connect the fans with the
parts of the system they are supposed to be cooling properly.

After commit b2b49ccbdd (PM: Kconfig: Set PM_RUNTIME if PM_SLEEP is

When __of_usb_find_phy() fails, it returns -ENODEV - its
error code has to be returned by devm_usb_get_phy_by_phandle().
Only when the former function succeeds and try_module_get()
fails should -EPROBE_DEFER be returned.

commit e47d925 (usb: move the OTG state from
the USB PHY to the OTG structure) moved the
OTG state from struct usb_phy to struct usb_otg.
Unfortunately, even though I fixed quite a few
build regressions with that patch already, this
one was still missing.
Note that this driver still has other randconfig
build problems which I'll leave for driver author
to fix, as that's less trivial.

This patch prepares the introduction of the generic PHY support in the
USB OTG common functions. The USB PHY member of the OTG structure is
renamed to 'usb_phy' and modifications are done in all drivers accessing
it. Renaming this pointer will allow to keep the compatibility for USB
PHY drivers.

Before using the PHY framework instead of the USB PHY one, we need to
move the OTG state into another place, since it won't be available when
USB PHY isn't used. This patch moves the OTG state into the OTG
structure, and makes all the needed modifications in the drivers
using the OTG state.

The PHY configuration is stored in an opaque "config" field, but when
allocating the structure, its proper size needs to be known. In the case
of UTMI, the proper structure is tegra_utmip_config of which a local
variable already exists, so we can use that to obtain the size from.

This patch makes the phy reset clk and reset line optional as this clk
is not available on boards like IFC6410 with APQ8064.
phy-reset clk is only used as argument to the mach level callbacks, so
this patch adds condition before clk_get calls so that the driver
wouldn't fail on SOCs which do not have this support.

This adds support for the USB PHY in Vybrid VF610. We assume that
the disconnection without VBUS is also needed for Vybrid.
Tests showed, without MXS_PHY_NEED_IP_FIX, enumeration of devices
behind a USB Hub fails with errors:

Hence we also enable the MXS_PHY_NEED_IP_FIX flag.

In case of error, the function devm_ioremap_nocache() returns NULL
pointer not ERR_PTR(). The IS_ERR() test in the return value check
should be replaced with NULL test.

According to the datasheet, PHYPARAM1_PCS_TXDEEMPH is set as
6 bits [5:0]. Thus, the bit mask should be set as 0x3f, instead
of 0x1f.
