Peter Zijlstra b111757c50 arch: personality independent stack top
New arch macro STACK_TOP_MAX it gives the larges valid stack address for the
architecture in question.

It differs from STACK_TOP in that it will not distinguish between
personalities but will always return the largest possible address.

This is used to create the initial stack on execve, which we will move down to
the proper location once the binfmt code has figured out where that is.

Maciej W. Rozycki 8b4a40809e zs: move to the serial subsystem
This is a reimplementation of the zs driver for the serial subsystem. Any
resemblance to the old driver is purely coincidential. ;-) I do hope I got
the handling of modem lines right -- better do not tackle me about the
issue unless you feel too good...

Any users of the old driver: please note the numbers of the serial lines
have now been swapped, i.e.  ttyS0 <-> ttyS1 and ttyS2 <-> ttyS3.  It has
to do with the modem lines mentioned above; basically the port A in a given
chip has to be initialised before the port B if you want to use the latter
as the serial console (which is usually the case), as operations on modem
lines of the serial line associated with the port B access both ports (see
the comment at the top of the driver for the details of wiring used).
Please update your scripts.

This is also the reason each SCC now requests an IRQ once only (as seen in
"/proc/interrupts") -- the handler takes care of both ports at once as the
line associated with the port B has to take status update interrupts from
both ports (and yet the line of the port A takes its own for itself too).
The old driver never got it right...

Antonino A. Daplas 317b3c2167 fbdev: detect primary display device
Add function helper, fb_is_primary_device(). Given struct fb_info, it will
return a nonzero value if the device is the primary display.

Currently, only the i386 is supported where the function checks for the

Maciej W. Rozycki b45d527974 sb1250-duart.c: SB1250 DUART serial support
This is a driver for the SB1250 DUART, a dual serial port implementation
included in the Broadcom family of SOCs descending from the SiByte SB1250
MIPS64 chip multiprocessor. It is a new implementation replacing the
old-fashioned driver currently present in the linux-mips.org tree. It
supports all the usual features one would expect from a(n asynchronous)
serial driver, including modem line control (as far as hardware supports it
-- there is edge detection logic missing from the DCD and RI lines and the
driver does not implement polling of these lines at the moment), the serial
console, BREAK transmission and reception, including the magic SysRq. The
receive FIFO threshold is not maintained though.

The driver was tested with a SWARM board which uses a BCM1250 SOC (which is
dual MIPS64 CMP) and has both ports of the single DUART implemented wired
externally. Both were tested. Testing included using the ports as
terminal lines at 1200bps (which is the ports minimum), 115200bps and a
couple of random speeds inbetween. The modem lines were verified to
operate correctly. No testing was performed with a use as a network
interface, like with SLIP or PPP.

Arnd Bergmann 4b7775870b Introduce compat_u64 and compat_s64 types
One common problem with 32 bit system call and ioctl emulation is the
different alignment rules between i386 and 64 bit machines. A number of
drivers work around this by marking the compat structures as
'attribute((packed))', which is not the right solution because it breaks
all the non-x86 architectures that want to use the same compat code.

Hopefully, this patch improves the situation, it introduces two new types,
compat_u64 and compat_s64. These are defined on all architectures to have
the same size and alignment as the 32 bit version of u64 and s64.

Kevin D. Kissell 0db34215c7 [MIPS] SMTC: Interrupt mask backstop hack
To support multiple TC microthreads acting as "CPUs" within a VPE,
VPE-wide interrupt mask bits must be specially manipulated during
interrupt handling. To support legacy drivers and interrupt controller
management code, SMTC has a "backstop" to track and if necessary restore
the interrupt mask. This has some performance impact on interrupt service
overhead. Disable it only if you know what you are doing.

Michael Ellerman 575e3348cb PCI: Use a weak symbol for the empty version of pcibios_add_platform_entries()
I'm not sure if this is going to fly, weak symbols work on the compilers I'm
using, but whether they work for all of the affected architectures I can't say.
I've cc'ed as many arch maintainers/lists as I could find.

But assuming they do, we can use a weak empty definition of
pcibios_add_platform_entries() to avoid having an empty definition on every
arch.

Franck Bui-Huu b1c65b3988 [MIPS] Fix PHYS_OFFSET for 64-bits kernels with 32-bits symbols
The current implementation of __pa() for 64-bits kernels with 32-bits
symbols is broken. In this configuration, we need 2 values for
PAGE_OFFSET, one in XKPHYS and the other in CKSEG0 space.

When the value in CKSEG0 space is used, it doesn't take into account
of PHYS_OFFSET. Even worse we can't redefine this value.

The patch restores CPHYSADDR() but in __pa()'s implementation because
it removes the need of 2 PAGE_OFFSET.

OTOH, CPHYSADDR() is quite bad when dealing with mapped kernels. So
this patch assumes there's no need to deal with such kernel in 64-bits
world.

Franck Bui-Huu 09bb9ce15f [MIPS] Allow generic spaces.h to be included by platform specific ones
Before this patch, when a platform needed to customize one constant in
spaces.h, they need to redefine all of them.

Now they can just redefine one constant and include the generic file
header at the end:

	#include <asm/mach-generic/spaces.h>

This patch doesn't allow to redefine CAC_BASE, IO_BASE and UNCAC_BASE
for 32 bits platforms because there's no need to do so.

This will avoid some macro duplications. It's important specially if
we'll add complex macros.

Ralf Baechle 4b3e975e4a [MIPS] Fix scheduling latency issue on 24K, 34K and 74K cores
The idle loop goes to sleep using the WAIT instruction if !need_resched().
This has is suffering from from a race condition that if if just after
need_resched has returned 0 an interrupt might set TIF_NEED_RESCHED but
we've just completed the test so go to sleep anyway. This would be
trivial to fix by just disabling interrupts during that sequence as in:

        local_irq_disable();
        if (!need_resched())
                __asm__("wait");
        local_irq_enable();

but the processor architecture leaves it undefined if a processor calling
WAIT with interrupts disabled will ever restart its pipeline and indeed
some processors have made use of the freedom provided by the architecture
definition. This has been resolved and the Config7.WII bit indicates that
the use of WAIT is safe on 24K, 24KE and 34K cores. It also is safe on
74K starting revision 2.1.0 so enable the use of WAIT with interrupts
disabled for 74K based on a c0_prid of at least that.

Alexey Dobriyan e8edc6e03a Detach sched.h from mm.h
First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline
function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock()
mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why.

This patch
a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h
b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c
c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation
d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly.
e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were
   getting them indirectly

Net result is:
a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if
   they don't need sched.h
b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files:
on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files,
   after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%).

Mathieu Desnoyers 2856f5e31c atomic.h: atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency
atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency.
I agree (with Andi Kleen) this typeof is not needed and more error
prone. All the original atomic.h code that uses cmpxchg (which includes
the atomic_add_unless) uses defines instead of inline functions,
probably to circumvent a circular dependency between system.h and
atomic.h on powerpc (which my patch addresses). Therefore, it makes
sense to use inline functions that will provide type checking.

atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency.
Digging into the FRV architecture shows me that it is also affected by
such a circular dependency. Here is the diff applying this against the
rest of my atomic.h patches.

It applies over the atomic.h standardization patches.

Jan Nikitenko 63bd23591e au1550 SPI controller driver
Here is a driver for the Alchemy au1550 PSC (Programmable Serial
Controller) in SPI master mode.

It supports dma transfers using the Alchemy descriptor based dma controller
for 4-8 bits per word SPI transfers. For 9-24 bits per word transfers, pio
irq based mode is used to avoid setup of dma channels from scratch on each
number of bits per word change.

Tested with au1550; this may also work on other MIPS Alchemy cpus, like
au1200/au1210/au1250.  Used extensively with SD card connected via SPI;
this handles 8.1MHz SPI clock transfers using dma without any problem (the
highest SPI clock freq possible with au1550 running on 324MHz).

The driver supports sharing of SPI bus by multiple devices. All features
of Alchemy SPI mode are supported (all SPI modes, msb/lsb first, bits per
word in 4-24 range).

As the SPI clock of the controller depends on main input clock that shall
be configured externally, platform data structure for au1550 SPI controller
driver contains mainclk_hz attribute to define the input clock rate. From
this value, dividers of the controller for SPI clock are set up for
required frequency.

David Gibson 0bb5e19d63 Clean up mostly unused IOSPACE macros
Most architectures defined three macros, MK_IOSPACE_PFN(), GET_IOSPACE()
and GET_PFN() in pgtable.h. However, the only callers of any of these
macros are in Sparc specific code, either in arch/sparc, arch/sparc64 or
drivers/sbus.

This patch removes the redundant macros from all architectures except
sparc and sparc64.

Simon Horman 6672f76a5a kdump/kexec: calculate note size at compile time
Currently the size of the per-cpu region reserved to save crash notes is
set by the per-architecture value MAX_NOTE_BYTES. Which in turn is
currently set to 1024 on all supported architectures.

While testing ia64 I recently discovered that this value is in fact too
small. The particular setup I was using actually needs 1172 bytes. This
lead to very tedious failure mode where the tail of one elf note would
overwrite the head of another if they ended up being alocated sequentially
by kmalloc, which was often the case.

It seems to me that a far better approach is to caclculate the size that
the area needs to be. This patch does just that.

If a simpler stop-gap patch for ia64 to be squeezed into 2.6.21(.X) is
needed then this should be as easy as making MAX_NOTE_BYTES larger in
arch/asm-ia64/kexec.h. Perhaps 2048 would be a good choice. However, I
think that the approach in this patch is a much more robust idea.

Christoph Hellwig 1eeb66a1bb move die notifier handling to common code
This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous
various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new
code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to
the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka
sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place)

arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to
arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's
declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through
this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures.

Jeremy Fitzhardinge d6dd61c831 [PATCH] x86: PARAVIRT: add hooks to intercept mm creation and destruction
Add hooks to allow a paravirt implementation to track the lifetime of
an mm. Paravirtualization requires three hooks, but only two are
needed in common code. They are:

arch_dup_mmap, which is called when a new mmap is created at fork

arch_exit_mmap, which is called when the last process reference to an
mm is dropped, which typically happens on exit and exec.

The third hook is activate_mm, which is called from the arch-specific
activate_mm() macro/function, and so doesn't need stub versions for
other architectures. It's called when an mm is first used.

Eric Dumazet 92f37fd2ee [NET]: Adding SO_TIMESTAMPNS / SCM_TIMESTAMPNS support
Now that network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new
SOL_SOCKET sockopt SO_TIMESTAMPNS.

Dave Johnson 1d464c26b5 [MIPS] Fix wrong checksum for split TCP packets on 64-bit MIPS
I've traced down an off-by-one TCP checksum calculation error under
the following conditions:

1) The TCP code needs to split a full-sized packet due to a reduced
MSS (typically due to the addition of TCP options mid-stream like
   SACK).
   _AND_
2) The checksum of the 2nd fragment is larger than the checksum of the
original packet. After subtraction this results in a checksum for
the 1st fragment with bits 16..31 set to 1. (this is ok)
   _AND_
3) The checksum of the 1st fragment's TCP header plus the previously
32bit checksum of the 1st fragment DOES NOT cause a 32bit overflow
when added together. This results in a checksum of the TCP header
plus TCP data that still has the upper 16 bits as 1's.
   _THEN_
4) The TCP+data checksum is added to the checksum of the pseudo IP
header with csum_tcpudp_nofold() incorrectly (the bug).

The problem is the checksum of the TCP+data is passed to
csum_tcpudp_nofold() as an 32bit unsigned value, however the assembly
code acts on it as if it is a 64bit unsigned value.

This causes an incorrect 32->64bit extension if the sum has bit 31
set. The resulting checksum is off by one.

This problems is data and TCP header dependent due to #2 and #3
above so it doesn't occur on every TCP packet split.

Con Kolivas 69f7c0a1be [PATCH] sched: remove SMT nice
Remove the SMT-nice feature which idles sibling cpus on SMT cpus to
facilitiate nice working properly where cpu power is shared. The idling of
cpus in the presence of runnable tasks is considered too fragile, easy to
break with outside code, and the complexity of managing this system if an
architecture comes along with many logical cores sharing cpu power will be
unworkable.

Remove the associated per_cpu_gain variable in sched_domains used only by
this code.

Also:

The reason is that with dynticks enabled, this code breaks without yet
further tweaks so dynticks brought on the rapid demise of this code. So
either we tweak this code or kill it off entirely. It was Ingo's preference
to kill it off. Either way this needs to happen for 2.6.21 since dynticks
  has gone in.

Franck Bui-Huu 9693a85378 [MIPS] Add basic SMARTMIPS ASE support
This patch adds trivial support for SMARTMIPS extension. This extension
is currently implemented by 4KS[CD] CPUs.

Basically it saves/restores ACX register, which is part of the SMARTMIPS
ASE, when needed. This patch does *not* add any support for Smartmips MMU
features.

Futhermore this patch does not add explicit support for 4KS[CD] CPUs since
they are respectively mips32 and mips32r2 compliant. So with the current
processor configuration, a platform that has such CPUs needs to select
both configs:

	CPU_HAS_SMARTMIPS
	SYS_HAS_CPU_MIPS32_R[12]

This is due to the processor configuration which is mixing up all the
architecture variants and the processor types.

The drawback of this, is that we currently pass '-march=mips32' option to
gcc when building a kernel instead of '-march=4ksc' for 4KSC case. This
can lead to a kernel image a little bit bigger than required.

Ralf Baechle e03b526932 [MIPS] Fixup copy_from_user_inatomic
From the 01408c4939 log message:

The problem is that when we write to a file, the copy from userspace to
pagecache is first done with preemption disabled, so if the source
address is not immediately available the copy fails *and* *zeros* *the*
*destination*.

This is a problem because a concurrent read (which admittedly is an odd
thing to do) might see zeros rather that was there before the write, or
what was there after, or some mixture of the two (any of these being a
reasonable thing to see).

If the copy did fail, it will immediately be retried with preemption
re-enabled so any transient problem with accessing the source won't
cause an error.

The first copying does not need to zero any uncopied bytes, and doing
so causes the problem. It uses copy_from_user_atomic rather than
copy_from_user so the simple expedient is to change copy_from_user_atomic
to *not* zero out bytes on failure.

< --- end cite --- >

This patch finally implements at least a not so pretty solution by
duplicating the relevant part of __copy_user.

Tilman Schmidt 4564f9e5fd [PATCH] consolidate line discipline number definitions
The line discipline numbers N_* are currently defined for each architecture
individually, but (except for a seeming mistake) identically, in
asm/termios.h. There is no obvious reason why these numbers should be
architecture specific, nor any apparent relationship with the termios
structure. The total number of these, NR_LDISCS, is defined in linux/tty.h
anyway. So I propose the following patch which moves the definitions of
the individual line disciplines to linux/tty.h too.

Three of these numbers (N_MASC, N_PROFIBUS_FDL, and N_SMSBLOCK) are unused
in the current kernel, but the patch still keeps the complete set in case
there are plans to use them yet.

Alexander Bigga fd046eb537 [MIPS] Alchemy: Fix PCI-memory access
The problem was introduced in 2.6.18.3 with the casting of some
36bit-defines (PCI memory) in au1000.h to resource_size_t which may be
u32 or u64 depending on the experimental CONFIG_RESOURCES_64BIT.

With unset CONFIG_RESOURCES_64BIT, the pci-memory cannot be accessed
because the ioremap in arch/mips/au1000/common/pci.c already used the
truncated addresses.
With set CONFIG_RESOURCES_64BIT, things get even worse, because PCI-scan
aborts, due to resource conflict: request_resource() in arch/mips/pci/pci.c
fails because the maximum iomem-address is 0xffffffff (32bit) but the
pci-memory-start-address is 0x440000000 (36bit).

To get pci working again, I propose the following patch:

1. remove the resource_size_t-casting from au1000.h again
2. make the casting in arch/mips/au1000/common/pci.c (it's allowed and
necessary here. The 36bit-handling will be done in __fixup_bigphys_addr).

With this patch pci works again like in 2.6.18.2, the gcc-compile warnings
in pci.c are gone and it doesn't depend on CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL.

Atsushi Nemoto 97dcb82de6 [MIPS] Define MIPS_CPU_IRQ_BASE in generic header
The irq_base for {mips,rm7k,rm9k}_cpu_irq_init() are constant on all
platforms and are same value on most platforms (0 or 16, depends on
CONFIG_I8259). Define them in asm-mips/mach-generic/irq.h and make
them customizable. This will save a few cycle on each CPU interrupt.

A good side effect is removing some dependencies to MALTA in generic
SMTC code.

Although MIPS_CPU_IRQ_BASE is customizable, this patch changes irq
mappings on DDB5477, EMMA2RH and MIPS_SIM, since really customizing
them might cause some header dependency problem and there seems no
good reason to customize it. So currently only VR41XX is using custom
MIPS_CPU_IRQ_BASE value, which is 0 regardless of CONFIG_I8259.

Testing this patch on those platforms is greatly appreciated. Thank
you.

Hugh Dickins 701dfbc1cb [PATCH] mm: mremap correct rmap accounting
Nick Piggin points out that page accounting on MIPS multiple ZERO_PAGEs
is not maintained by its move_pte, and could lead to freeing a ZERO_PAGE.

Instead of complicating that move_pte, just forget the minor optimization
when mremapping, and change the one thing which needed it for correctness
- filemap_xip use ZERO_PAGE(0) throughout instead of according to address.

Atsushi Nemoto 66218da212 [MIPS] Fix wrong checksum calculation on 64-bit MIPS
The commit 8e3d8433d8 ([NET]: MIPS
checksum annotations and cleanups) broke 64-bit MIPS.

The problem is the commit replaces some unsigned long with __be32. On
64bit MIPS, a __be32 (i.e. unsigned int) value is represented as a
sign-extented 32-bit value in a 64-bit argument register. So the
address 192.168.0.1 (0xc0a80001) is passed as 0xffffffffc0a80001 to
csum_tcpudp_nofold() but the asm code in the function expects
0x00000000c0a80001, therefore it returns a wrong checksum. Explicit
cast to unsigned long is needed to drop high 32bit.

Alan Cox be90038a24 [PATCH] tty: preparatory structures for termios revamp
In order to sort out our struct termios and add proper speed control we need
to separate the kernel and user termios structures. Glibc is fine but the
other libraries rely on the kernel exported struct termios and we need to
extend this without breaking the ABI/API

To do so we add a struct ktermios which is the kernel view of a termios
structure and overlaps the struct termios with extra fields on the end for
now. (That limitation will go away in later patches). Some platforms (eg
alpha) planned ahead and thus use the same struct for both, others did not.

This just adds the structures but does not use them, it seems a sensible
splitting point for bisect if there are compile failures (not that I expect
them)

Atsushi Nemoto 656be92f9a [MIPS] Load modules to CKSEG0 if CONFIG_BUILD_ELF64=n
This is a patch to load 64-bit modules to CKSEG0 so that can be
compiled with -msym32 option. This makes each module ~10% smaller.

* introduce MODULE_START and MODULE_END
* custom module_alloc()
* PGD for modules
* change XTLB refill handler synthesizer
* enable -msym32 for modules again

Franck Bui-Huu 620a4802be [MIPS] Make __pa() aware of XKPHYS/CKSEG0 address mix for 64 bit kernels
During early boot mem init, some configs couldn't use __pa() to
convert virtual into physical addresses. Specially for 64 bit
kernel cases when CONFIG_BUILD_ELF64=n. This patch make __pa()
work for _all_ configs and thus make CPHYSADDR() useless.

Franck Bui-Huu 99e3b942c6 [MIPS] page.h: remove __pa() usages.
__pa() was used by virt_to_page() and virt_addr_valid(). These
latter are used when kernel is initialised so __pa() is not
appropriate, we use virt_to_phys() instead.

Futhermore __pa() is going to take care of CKSEG0/XKPHYS
address mix for 64 bit kernels. This makes __pa() more complex
than virt_to_phys() and this extra work is not needed by
virt_to_page() and virt_addr_valid().

Eventually it consolidates virt_to_phys() prototype by making
its argument 'const'. this avoids some warnings that was due
to some virt_to_page() usages which pass const pointer.

 * MIPS clocksource support (based on works by Manish Lachwani).
 * remove unused gettimeoffset routines and related codes.
 * remove unised 64bit do_div64_32().
 * simplify mips_hpt_init. (no argument needed, __init tag)
 * simplify c0_hpt_timer_init. (no need to write to c0_count)
 * remove some hpt_init routines.
 * mips_hpt_mask variable to specify bitmask of hpt value.
 * convert jmr3927_do_gettimeoffset to jmr3927_hpt_read.
 * convert ip27_do_gettimeoffset to ip27_hpt_read.
 * convert bcm1480_do_gettimeoffset to bcm1480_hpt_read.
 * simplify sb1250 hpt functions. (no need to subtract and shift)
