If a Sixaxis or Dualshock 4 controller is connected via USB while already
connected via Bluetooth it will cause duplicate devices to be added to the
input device list.
To prevent this a global list of controllers and their MAC addresses is
maintained and new controllers are checked against this list. If a duplicate
is found, the probe function will exit with -EEXIST.
On USB the MAC is retrieved via a feature report. On Bluetooth neither
controller reports the MAC address in a feature report so the MAC is parsed from
the uniq string. As uniq cannot be guaranteed to be a MAC address in every case
(uHID or the behavior of HIDP changing) a parsing failure will not prevent the
connection.

Only initialize force feedback for devices that actually support it (Sixaxis and
Dualshock 4) to prevent calls to schedule_work() with an uninitialized work
queue.
Move the cancel_work_sync() call out of sony_destroy_ff() since the state worker
is used for the LEDs even when force-feedback is disabled.
Remove the sony_destroy_ff() function since it is no longer used.

Remove hid_output_raw_report() call as it is not a ll_driver callbacj,
and switch to the hid_hw_* implementation. USB-HID used to fallback
into SET_REPORT when there were no output interrupt endpoint,
so emulating this if hid_hw_output_report() returns -ENOSYS.

hid_output_raw_report() is not a ll_driver callback and should not be used.
To keep the same code path than before, we are forced to play with the
different hid_hw_* calls: if the usb or i2c device does not support
direct output reports, then we will rely on the SET_REPORT HID call.

This patch adds support for the Silicon Labs CP2112 "Single-Chip HID USB to
SMBus Master Bridge."
This is a HID device driver which registers as an i2c adapter and gpiochip to
expose these functions of the CP2112. The customizable USB descriptor fields
are exposed as sysfs attributes. The SMBus byte-read, byte-data-read/write,
and word-data-read transfer modes have been tested by talking to an i2c
sensor. The GPIO functions and USB descriptor field programming have also
been tested.

The battery_charging and cable_state flags were backwards on the Sixaxis.
The low bit of report byte 30 is 0 when charging and 1 when not.
Bit 5 of byte 31 is 0 when a USB cable is connected and 1 when not.

We need at least HID_MAX_BUFFER_SIZE (4096) bytes as input buffer. HID
core depends on this as it requires every input report to be at least as
big as advertised.

In HID sensor hub, HID physical ids are used to represent different sensors.
For example physical id of 0x73 in usage page = 0x20, represents an
accelerometer. The HID sensor hub driver uses this physical ids to create
platform devices using MFD. There is 1:1 correspondence between an phy id and a
client driver.
But in some cases these physical ids are reused. There is a phy id 0xe1, which
specifies a custom sensor, which can exist multiple times to represent various
custom sensors. In this case there can be multiple instances of client MFD
drivers, processing specific custom sensor. In this case when client driver
looks for report id or a field index, it should still get the report id
specific to its own type. This is also true for reports, they should be
directed towards correct instance. This change introduce a way to parse and
tie physical devices to their correct instance.
Summary of changes:
- To get physical ids, use collections. If a collection of type=physical
exist then use usage id as in the name of platform device name
- As part of the platform data, we assign a hdsev instance, which has
start and end of collection indexes. Using these indexes attributes
can be tied to correct MFD client instances
- When a report is received, call callback with correct hsdev instance.
In this way using its private data stored as part of its registry, it
can distinguish different sensors even when they have same physical and
logical ids.

In some report descriptors, they leave holes in the selectors. In
this case if we use hardcoded selector values, this will result
in invalid values. For example, if there is selectors defined for
Power State from OFF to D0 to D3. We can't use indexes of these states
if some states are not implemented or not present in the report decriptors.
In this case, we need to get the indexes from report descriptors.
One API is added to get the index of a selector. This API will
search for usage id in the field usage list and return the index.

Added STM sensor hub vendor id in HID_SENSOR_HUB_ENUM_QUIRK to
fix report descriptors. These devices uses old FW which uses
logical 0 as minimum. In these, HID reports are not using proper
collection classes. So we need to fix report descriptors,for
such devices. This will not have any impact, if the FW uses
logical 1 as minimum.
We look for usage id for "power and report state", and modify
logical minimum value to 1.
This is a follow-up patch to commit id 875e36f8.

Add output_report and raw_request to i2c-hid.
The current implementation of i2c_hid_output_raw_report decides
by itself if it should use a direct send of the output report
or use the data register (SET_REPORT). Split that by reimplement
the logic in __i2c_hid_output_raw_report() which will be dropped
soon.

By default, the Dualshock 4 sends controller data via report 1. Once a valid
output report 0x11 is received or a feature report of type 0x02 is requested the
controller changes from sending data in report 1 to sending data in report 17,
which is unmapped in the default descriptor. The mappings have to be moved to
report 17 to let the HID driver properly process the incoming reports.

hid-logitech-dj uses its own ->hidinput_input_event() instead of
the generic binding in hid-input.
Moving the handling of LEDs towards logi_dj_output_hidraw_report()
allows two things:
- remove hidinput_input_event in struct hid_device
- hidraw user space programs can also set the LEDs

The "Webmail Notifier" is a USB controlled LED that appears as a HID
device. When trying to change the LED via hidraw it returns malformed
reports. As "usbled" supports it, we blacklist it in usbhid.

The Dualshock4 controller contains a RGB LED, which is enabled via
the '/sys/class/leds' interface. At present the driver only returns
whether each of the RGB LEDs is lit (ie not off), but no indication
of it's brightness.
This patch fixes the reading of the current brightnes so that it
returns the value (rather than just off=0, on=LED_FULL).
Tested on the DS4 and SixAxis (for compatibility).

This patch adds runtime PM support for the HID over I2C driver. When the
i2c-hid device is first opened we power it on and on the last close we
power it off. This is actually what the driver is already doing but in
addition it allows subsystems, like ACPI power domain to power off the
device during runtime PM suspend, which should save even more power.
The implementation is not the most power efficient because it needs some
interaction from the userspace (e.g close the device node whenever we are
no more interested in getting events), nevertheless it allows us to save
some power and works with devices that are not wake capable.

Add output events for the multi-touch pad on the Dualshock 4.
The touchpad has a resolution of 1920x940 and is capable of 2 simultaneous
touches. A 'Type B' stateful slot protocol is implemented as defined in

The Microsoft Surface Type/Touch cover 2 devices have the flag HID_DG_CONTACTID
in their reports.This causes the device to bind to the hid-multitouch driver,
which doesn't handle generic keyboard/mouse input events. The patch adds
the hardware id's of the device to hid-microsoft and to the HID special
driver array, which makes the device get handled by hid-generic/hid-input
properly.

This addresses regression caused by commit id "751d17e23a9f7"
iio: hid-sensors: Fix power and report state.
This commit removed a quirk, to change the enumeration base
to 1 from 0 based on an CONFIG paramter. There was objection to
add more changes under this quirk, instead suggested to add an
HID quirk. But there is no easy way to add HID qurik as the
reports are not properly using collection class.
The solution was to use logical minimum, which is a correct way.
There were changes done in firmware to address this.
Unfortunately some devices, still use old FW and can't be upgraded
to newer version on Linux devices as there is no FW upgrade tool
available for Linux devices. So we need to fix report descriptors,
for such devices. This will not have any impact, if the FW uses
logical 1 as minimum.
In this patch we look for usage id for "power and report state", and
modify logical minimum value to 1.
Background on enum:
In the original HID sensor hub firmwares all Named array enums were
to 0-based. But the most recent hub implemented as 1-based,
because of the implementation by one of the major OS vendor.
Using logical minimum for the field as the base of enum. So we add
logical minimum to the selector values before setting those fields.
Some sensor hub FWs already changed logical minimum from 0 to 1
to reflect this and hope every other vendor will follow.
There is no easy way to add a common HID quirk for NAry elements,
even if the standard specifies these field as NAry, the collection
used to describe selectors is still just "logical".

This fix (not very clean though) should fix the long time USB3
issue that was spotted last year. The rational has been given by
Hans de Goede:

I think the most likely cause for this is a firmware bug
in the unifying receiver, likely a race condition.
The most prominent difference between having a USB-2 device
plugged into an EHCI (so USB-2 only) port versus an XHCI
port will be inter packet timing. Specifically if you
send packets (ie hid reports) one at a time, then with
the EHCI controller their will be a significant pause
between them, where with XHCI they will be very close
together in time.
The reason for this is the difference in EHCI / XHCI
controller OS <-> driver interfaces.
For non periodic endpoints (control, bulk) the EHCI uses a
circular linked-list of commands in dma-memory, which it
follows to execute commands, if the list is empty, it
will go into an idle state and re-check periodically.
The XHCI uses a ring of commands per endpoint, and if the OS
places anything new on the ring it will do an ioport write,
waking up the XHCI making it send the new packet immediately.
For periodic transfers (isoc, interrupt) the delay between
packets when sending one at a time (rather then queuing them
up) will be even larger, because they need to be inserted into
the EHCI schedule 2 ms in the future so the OS driver can be
sure that the EHCI driver does not try to start executing the
time slot in question before the insertion has completed.
So a possible fix may be to insert a delay between packets
being send to the receiver.

I tested this on a buggy Haswell USB 3.0 motherboard, and I always
get the notification after adding the msleep.

Add LED lightbar controls for the Dualshock 4.
The Dualshock 4 light bar has 3 separate RGB LEDs that can range in
brightness from 0 to 255 so a full byte is now needed to store each LED's
state
Changed the module to support an arbitrary number of LEDs instead of being
hardcoded to 4.

Adds the Dualshock 4 to the HID device list and enables force-feedback.
Adds a Dualshock 4 specific worker function since the Dualshock 4 needs a
different report than the Sixaxis.
The right motor in the Dualshock 4 is variable so the full rumble value
is now passed to the worker function and clamped there if necessary.

we used to set the parent of the input device as the parent of
the hid bus. This was introduced when we created hid as a real bus, and
to keep backward compatibility. Now, it's time to proper set the parent
so that sysfs has an idea of which input device is attached to
which hid device.

The Si4713 development board contains a Si4713 FM transmitter chip
and is handled by the radio-usb-si4713 driver.
The board reports itself as (10c4:8244) Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc.
and misidentifies itself as a HID device in its USB interface descriptor.
This patch ignores this device as an HID device and hence loads the custom driver.

Fix kernel warning and failure to register sensor hub devices with MFD. Now
many devices has in-built sensor hubs. So by default this HID hub, is properly
parsed and register individual sensors as platform device using MFD framework.
But if a second sensor hub is attached via USB, which has same sensors, it will
result in kernel warning and failure to register MFD cell as the platform
device sysfs file name will be same as created by in-built sensor hubs. This
patch sets MFD cell id to PLATFORM_DEVID_AUTO. In this way there will never be
duplicate sysfs file names.

hid-logitech-dj.c driver needs hidraw to work correctly. Without
hidraw, hid-logitech-dj.c fails during probe() and Logitech
Unifying devices HID reports aren't recognized.
The unifying receiver has 3 usb interfaces. When hid-logitech-dj driver is
loaded, interfaces 0 and 1 are discarded.
Interface 2 consists of a hid class interface with 3 collections, each of
which sports the 'vendor' usage, thus, there is no reason for hid_input to
claim any of them. On the other hand, hidraw has no issue in claiming the
collections, even if they are 'vendor'. As of today, hid-logitech-dj uses
hidraw api to send configuration/control reports to interface 2 of the
Unifying receiver.
Without the hid-logitech-dj driver, interfaces 0 and 1 are claimed by
hid-input, as they correspond to a keyboard and a mouse. But that is not
relevant to the discussion.

I have two Logitech Dual Action gamepads, both have same Vendor/Device id pair.
Newest gamepad (A) can switch between old mode (HID) and XBox gamepad emulation
mode. Old gamepad (B) can only work in HID mode. In HID mode gamepad A sends
many EPIPE errors during initialization and was disconnected immediately after
connect to usb port. It works fine in Win and Mac. After adding NOGET quirk in
driver, it was working properly. Gamepad B works fine before and after
changes. I tested both gamepads with 3.8.0 and 3.11.6 kernels with modified
driver. Follow patch can apply for current git kernel version. I can send pcap
log from usb bus with both gamepads or any other additional information if it
is needed

The change to support Genius Manticore Keyboard also changed behaviour

UHID allows short writes so user-space can omit unused fields. We
automatically set them to 0 in the kernel. However, the 64/32 bit
compat-handler didn't do that in the UHID_CREATE fallback. This will
reveal random kernel heap data (of random size, even) to user-space.

When an I2C HID device is powered of during system sleep, as a result of
removing its power resources (by the ACPI core) the interrupt line might go
low as well. This results inadvertent interrupt and wakes the system from
sleep immediately.
To prevent this we disable the device interrupt in the drivers suspend
method and enable it on resume. The device can still wake the system up if
it is wake capable (this also means that not all of its power will be
removed to keep the interrupt line high).

The manticore keyboard requires that all usb EP are opened at least
once to be fully functional. The third EP forwards to the user space
some vendor specific information about the keyboard state, but are useless
currently for the kernel.
Opening them and closing them makes the keyboard responsive again.

Some weird remotes are not correctly creating the input device. Their
report descriptor starts with:

The PS3 Sixaxis controller has 4 LEDs which can be controlled using the same
command as the rumble functionality. It seems not to be possible to only change
the LED without modifying the rumble motor state. Thus both have to be stored
on the host and retransmitted when either the LED or rumble state is changed.
Third party controllers may not support to disable all LEDs at once. These
controllers automatically switch to blinking of all LEDs when no LED is active
anymore.

The commands used to modify the rumble motor state also modifies the LEDs at
the same time. The functionality used to modify this state in the driver has to
be shared between the rumble and LED part. It is therefore better to replace
the "rumble" part of the names with "state".

This reverts commit 86b84167d4 as it introduced a
VID/PID conflict with its original owner: hid-wiimote got
hid:b0005g*v0000054Cp00000306 added but hid-sony already has this id for the
PS3 Remote (and the ID is oficically assigned to Sony).
Revert the commit to avoid hid-sony regression. David is working on a
bluez patch to force proper ID on the wiimote.

The ff_memless has a timer running which gets run in an atomic context and
calls the play_effect callback. The callback function for sony uses the
hid_output_raw_report (overwritten by sixaxis_usb_output_raw_report) function
to handle differences in the control message format. It is not safe for an
atomic context because it may sleep later in usb_start_wait_urb.
This "scheduling while atomic" can cause the system to lock up. A workaround is
to make the force feedback state update using work_queues and use the
play_effect function only to enqueue the work item.

Modify struct acpi_dev_node to contain a pointer to struct acpi_device
associated with the given device object (that is, its ACPI companion
device) instead of an ACPI handle corresponding to it. Introduce two
new macros for manipulating that pointer in a CONFIG_ACPI-safe way,
ACPI_COMPANION() and ACPI_COMPANION_SET(), and rework the
ACPI_HANDLE() macro to take the above changes into account.
Drop the ACPI_HANDLE_SET() macro entirely and rework its users to
use ACPI_COMPANION_SET() instead. For some of them who used to
pass the result of acpi_get_child() directly to ACPI_HANDLE_SET()
introduce a helper routine acpi_preset_companion() doing an
equivalent thing.
The main motivation for doing this is that there are things
represented by struct acpi_device objects that don't have valid
ACPI handles (so called fixed ACPI hardware features, such as
power and sleep buttons) and we would like to create platform
device objects for them and "glue" them to their ACPI companions
in the usual way (which currently is impossible due to the
lack of valid ACPI handles). However, there are more reasons
why it may be useful.
First, struct acpi_device pointers allow of much better type checking
than void pointers which are ACPI handles, so it should be more
difficult to write buggy code using modified struct acpi_dev_node
and the new macros. Second, the change should help to reduce (over
time) the number of places in which the result of ACPI_HANDLE() is
passed to acpi_bus_get_device() in order to obtain a pointer to the
struct acpi_device associated with the given "physical" device,
because now that pointer is returned by ACPI_COMPANION() directly.
Finally, the change should make it easier to write generic code that
will build both for CONFIG_ACPI set and unset without adding explicit
compiler directives to it.

Sony Dualshock 3 controllers have two motors which can be used to provide
simple force feedback rumble effects. The right motor is can be used to create
a weak rumble effect but does not allow to set the force. The left motor is
used to create a strong rumble effect with adjustable intensity.
The state of both motors can be changed using HID_OUTPUT_REPORT packets and
have no timing information. FF memless is used to keep track of the timing and
the sony driver just generates the necessary URBs.

Certain devices with class HID, protocol None did not work with the HID
driver at one point, and as a result were bound to usbtouchscreen
instead as of commit 139ebe8 ("Input: usbtouchscreen - fix eGalax HID
ignoring"). This change was prompted by the following report:

Unfortunately, the device mentioned in this report is no longer
available for testing.
We've recently discovered that some devices with class HID, protocol
None do not work with usbtouchscreen, but do work with usbhid. Here is
the report that made this evident:

Driver binding for these devices has flip-flopped a few times, so both
of the above reports were regressions.
This situation would appear to leave us with no easy way to bind every
device to the right driver. However, in my own testing with several
devices I have not found a device with class HID that does not work with
the current HID driver. It is my belief that changes to the HID driver
since the original report have likely fixed the issue(s) that made it
unsuitable at the time, and that we should prefer it over usbtouchscreen
for these devices. In particular, HID quirks affecting these devices
were added/removed in the following commits since then:

This patch makes the HID driver no longer ignore eGalax/D-Wav/EETI
devices with class HID. If there are in fact devices with class HID
that still do not work with the HID driver, we will see another round of
regressions. In that case I propose we investigate why the device is
not working with the HID driver rather than re-introduce regressions for
functioning HID devices by again binding them to usbtouchscreen.
The corresponding change to usbtouchscreen will be made separately.

The MOMO and MOMO2 wheels have a slightly different autocenter command,
and accept values in the range 0..F (rather than 0..7 for the other wheels).
This patch uses the product ID to determine how to compute the strength.

When 'Constant Force' is set to 0 it is not turned off completely,
the wheel feels 'heavy'. This patch issues the '13 00..' command
to ensure that the force in slot 1 (the Constant Force) is
deactivated.

Most of the hid sensor field size is reported in report_size field
in the report descriptor. For rotation fusion sensor the quaternion
data is 16 byte field, the report size was set to 4 and report
count field is set to 4. So the total size is 16 bytes. But the current
driver has a bug and not taking account for report count field. This
causes user space to see only 4 bytes of data sent via IIO interface.
The number of bytes in a field needs to take account of report_count
field. Need to multiply report_size and report_count to get total
number of bytes.

According to specifications, HID over I2C devices are not bound to respond to
query for INPUT REPORTS. Thus dropping the call during init as many devices
does not respond causing error messages during boot.

The analog sticks of the pro-controller might report slightly off values.
To guarantee a uniform setup, we now calibrate analog-stick values during
pro-controller setup.
Unfortunately, the pro-controller fails during normal EEPROM reads and I
couldn't figure out whether there are any calibration values stored on the
device. Therefore, we now use the first values reported by the device (iff
they are not _way_ off, which would indicate movement) to initialize the
calibration values. To allow users to change this calibration data, we
provide a pro_calib sysfs attribute.
We also change the "flat" values so user-space correctly smoothes our
data. It makes slightly off zero-positions less visible while still
guaranteeing highly precise movement reports. Note that the pro controller
reports zero-positions in a quite huge range (at least: -100 to +100).

Revert some changes done in 7746383868.
Revert all changes done in hidinput_calc_abs_res as it mistakingly used
"Unit" item exponent nibbles to affect resolution value. This wasn't
breaking resolution calculation of relevant axes of any existing
devices, though, as they have only one dimension to their units and thus
1 in the corresponding nible.
Revert to reading "Unit Exponent" item value as a signed integer in
hid_parser_global to fix reading specification-complying values. This
fixes resolution calculation of devices complying to the HID standard,
including Huion, KYE, Waltop and UC-Logic graphics tablets which have
their report descriptors fixed by the drivers.
Explanations follow.
There are two "unit exponents" in HID specification and it is important
not to mix them. One is the global "Unit Exponent" item and another is
nibble values in the global "Unit" item. See 6.2.2.7 Global Items.
The "Unit Exponent" value is just a signed integer and is used to scale
the integer resolution unit values, so fractions can be expressed.
The nibbles of "Unit" value are used to select the unit system (nibble
0), and presence of a particular basic unit type in the unit formula and
its *exponent* (or power, nibbles 1-6). And yes, the latter is in two
complement and zero means absence of the unit type.
Taking the representation example of (integer) joules from the
specification:

the "Unit Exponent" would be -7 (or 0xF9, if stored as a byte) and the
"Unit" value would be 0xE121, signifying:

To give the resolution in e.g. hundredth of joules the "Unit Exponent"
item value should have been -9.
See also the examples of "Unit" values for some common units in the same
chapter.
However, there is a common misunderstanding about the "Unit Exponent"
value encoding, where it is assumed to be stored the same as nibbles in
"Unit" item. This is most likely due to the specification being a bit
vague and overloading the term "unit exponent". This also was and still
is proliferated by the official "HID Descriptor Tool", which makes this
mistake and stores "Unit Exponent" as such. This format is also
mentioned in books such as "USB Complete" and in Microsoft's hardware
design guides.
As a result many devices currently on the market use this encoding and
so the driver should support them.

Synaptics large touchscreen doesn't support some of the report request
while initializing. The unspoorted request will make the device unreachable,
and will lead to the following usb_submit_urb() function call timeout.
So, add the IDs into HID_QUIRK_NO_INIT_REPORTS quirk.

Add USB IDs for Logitech Formula Vibration Feedback Wheel (046d:ca04).
The lg2ff force feedback subdriver is used for vibration and
HID_GD_MULTIAXIS is set to avoid deadzone like other Logitech wheels.

The input core has an internal spinlock that is acquired during event
injection via input_event() and friends but also held during FF callbacks.
That means, there is no way to share a lock between event-injection and FF
handling. Unfortunately, this is what is required for wiimote state
tracking and what we do with state.lock and input->lock.
This deadlock can be triggered when using continuous data reporting and FF
on a wiimote device at the same time. I takes me at least 30m of
stress-testing to trigger it but users reported considerably shorter
times (http://bpaste.net/show/132504/) when using some gaming-console
emulators.
The real problem is that we have two copies of internal state, one in the
wiimote objects and the other in the input device. As the input-lock is
not supposed to be accessed from outside of input-core, we have no other
chance than offloading FF handling into a worker. This actually works
pretty nice and also allows to implictly merge fast rumble changes into a
single request.
Due to the 3-layered workers (rumble+queue+l2cap) this might reduce FF
responsiveness. Initial tests were fine so lets fix the race first and if
it turns out to be too slow we can always handle FF out-of-band and skip
the queue-worker.

Don't call hid_open_device till there is actually an user. This saves

udev has this nice feature of creating "dead" /dev/<node> device-nodes if
it finds a devnode:<node> modalias. Once the node is accessed, the kernel
automatically loads the module that provides the node. However, this
requires udev to know the major:minor code to use for the node. This
feature was introduced by:

However, uhid uses dynamic minor numbers so this doesn't actually work. We
need to load uhid to know which minor it's going to use.
Hence, allocate a static minor (just like uinput does) and we're good

Some systems although they have firmware class 'M', which usually
needs a work around to not crash, must not be subjected to the
work around because the work around crashes them. They cannot be
told apart by their own device descriptor, but as they are part
of compound devices, can be identified by looking at their siblings.

lenovo tpkbd currently relies on the usb interface number to detect
if it is dealing with the touchpad interface or not.
As the report descriptors of the interface 0 does not contain the
button 3, we can use this to remove the need to check for usb.

acpi_evaluate_integer() is an ACPI API introduced to evaluate an
ACPI control method that is known to have an integer return value.
This API can simplify the code because the calling function does not need to
use the specified acpi_buffer structure required by acpi_evaluate_object();
Convert acpi_evaluate_object() to acpi_evaluate_integer()
in drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.c in this patch.

A recent patch (9d9a04ee) added support for the new machine, but got
the sequence of USB ids wrong. Reports from both Ian and Linus T show
that the 0x0291 id is for ISO, not ANSI, which should have the missing
number 0x0290. This patchs moves the three numbers accordingly, fixing
the problem.

Apart from drums, Guitar-Hero also ships with guitars. Use the recently
introduced input ABS/BTN-bits to report this to user-space.
Devices are reported as "Nintendo Wii Remote Guitar". If I ever get my
hands on "RockBand" guitars, I will try to report them via the same
interface so user-space does not have to bother which device it deals
with.

Guitar-Hero comes with a drums extension. Use the newly introduced input
drums-bits to report this back to user-space. This is a usual extension
like any other device. Nothing special to take care of.
We report this to user-space as "Nintendo Wii Remote Drums". There are
other drums (like "RockBand" drums) which we currently do not support and
maybe will at some point. However, it is quite likely that we can report
these via the same interface. This allows user-space to work with them
without knowing the exact branding.
I couldn't find anyone who owns a "RockBand" device, though.

The "Report ID" field of a HID report is used to build indexes of
reports. The kernel's index of these is limited to 256 entries, so any
malicious device that sets a Report ID greater than 255 will trigger
memory corruption on the host:

Some multitouch screens do not like to be polled for input reports.
However, the Win8 spec says that all touches should be sent during
each report, making the initialization of reports unnecessary.
The Win7 spec is less precise, so do not use this for those devices.
Add the quirk HID_QUIRK_NO_INIT_INPUT_REPORTS so that we do not have to
introduce a quirk for each problematic device. This quirk makes the driver
behave the same way the Win 8 does. It actually retrieves the features,
but not the inputs.

Detecting Win 8 multitouch devices in core allows us to set quirks
before the device is parsed through hid_hw_start().
It also simplifies the detection of those devices in hid-multitouch and
makes the handling of those devices cleaner.
As Win 8 multitouch panels are in the group multitouch and rely on a
special feature to be detected, this patch adds a bitfield in the parser.

The Win 8 detection is sufficiently complex to warrant use of the full
parser code, in spite of the inferred memory usage. Therefore, we can use
the existing HID parser in hid-core for hid_scan_report() by re-using the
code from hid_open_report(). hid_parser_global, hid_parser_local and
hid_parser_reserved does not have any side effects. We just need to
reimplement the MAIN_ITEM callback to have a proper parsing without side
effects.

It is unsafe to call list_for_each_entry in hidraw_report_event to
traverse each hidraw_list node without a lock protection, the list
could be modified if someone calls hidraw_release and list_del to
remove itself from the list, this can cause hidraw_report_event
to touch a deleted list struct and panic.
To prevent this, introduce a spinlock in struct hidraw to protect
list from concurrent access.

Some devices of the "Speedlink VAD Cezanne" model need more aggressive fixing
than already done.
I made sure through testing that this patch would not interfere with the proper
working of a device that is bug-free. (The driver drops EV_REL events with
abs(val) >= 256, which are not achievable even on the highest laser resolution
hardware setting.)

ACPI 5.0 specification requires the fourth parameter to the _DSM (Device
Specific Method) to be of type package instead of integer. Failing to do
that we get following warning on the console:

Fix this by passing an empty package to the _DSM method. The HID over I2C

Explanation provided by Benjamin Tissoires:
Commit "HID: hid-logitech-dj, querying_devices was never set" activate
a flag which guarantees that we do not ask the receiver for too many
enumeration. When the flag is set, each following enumeration call is
discarded (the usb request is not forwarded to the receiver). The flag
is then released when the driver receive a pairing information event,
which normally follows the enumeration request.
However, the USB3 bug makes the driver think the enumeration request
has been forwarded to the receiver. However, it is actually not the
case because the USB stack returns -EPIPE. So, when a new unknown
device appears, the workaround consisting in asking for a new
enumeration is not working anymore: this new enumeration is discarded
because of the flag, which is never reset.
A solution could be to trigger a timeout before releasing it, but for
now, let's just revert the patch.

This changes puts the commit 4fe9f8e203 back in place
with the fixes for slab corruption because of the commit.
When a device is unplugged, wait for all processes that
have opened the device to close before deallocating the device.
This commit was solving kernel crash because of the corruption in
rb tree of vmalloc. The rootcause was the device data pointer was
geting excessed after the memory associated with hidraw was freed.
The commit 4fe9f8e203 was buggy as it was also freeing the hidraw
first and then calling delete operation on the list associated with
that hidraw leading to slab corruption.

GEN10 and earlier devices seem to not support DRM_KAI if we run in basic
IR mode. Use DRM_KAIE instead. This might increases overhead slightly as
the extension port is read and streamed but we stream accelerometer data
constantly, too, so this is negligible.
Note that our parsers are hardcoded on IR-formats, so we cannot actually
use 96-bit IR DRMs for basic IR data. We would have to adjust the parsers.
But as only GEN20 and newer support this, we simply avoid mixed DRMs.
This fixes a bug where GEN10 devices didn't provide IR data if
accelerometer and IR are enabled simultaneously. As a workaround, you can
enable DRM_KAIE without this patch via (disables device power-management):

Remove HV_DRV_VERSION, it has no meaning for upstream drivers.
Initially it was supposed to show the "Linux Integration Services"
version, now it is not in sync anymore with the out-of-tree drivers
available from the MSFT website.
The only place where a version string is still required is the KVP
command "IntegrationServicesVersion" which is handled by
tools/hv/hv_kvp_daemon.c. To satisfy such KVP request from the host pass
the current string to the daemon during KVP userland registration.

Mutex can not be released unless all hid_device members are properly
initialized. Otherwise it would result in a race condition that can
cause NULL pointer kernel panic issue in hidraw_open where it uses
uninitialized 'list' member in list_add_tail().

The hidinput_input_event() callback converts input events written from
userspace into HID reports and sends them to the device. We currently
implement this in every HID transport driver, even though most of them do
the same.
This provides a generic hidinput_input_event() implementation which is
mostly copied from usbhid. It uses a delayed worker to allow multiple LED
events to be collected into a single output event.
We use the custom ->request() transport driver callback to allow drivers
to adjust the outgoing report and handle the request asynchronously. If no
custom ->request() callback is available, we fall back to the generic raw
output report handler (which is synchronous).
Drivers can still provide custom hidinput_input_event() handlers (see
logitech-dj) if the generic implementation doesn't fit their needs.

HID core provides the same functionality and can convert the input event
to a raw output report. We can thus drop UHID_OUTPUT_EV and rely on the
mandatory UHID_OUTPUT.
User-space wasn't able to do anything with UHID_OUTPUT_EV, anyway. They
don't have access to the report fields.

Report fields can be updated from HID drivers unlocked via
hid_set_field(). It is protected by input_lock in HID core so only a
single input event is handled at a time. USBHID can thus update the field
unlocked and doesn't conflict with any HID vendor/device drivers. Note,
many HID drivers make heavy use of hid_set_field() in that way.
But usbhid also schedules a work to gather multiple LED changes in a
single report. Hence, we used to lock the LED field update so the work can
read a consistent state. However, hid_set_field() only writes a single
integer field, which is guaranteed to be allocated all the time. So the
worst possible race-condition is a garbage read on the LED field.
Therefore, there is no need to protect the update. In fact, the only thing
that is prevented by locking hid_set_field(), is an LED update while the
scheduled work currently writes an older LED update out. However, this
means, a new work is scheduled directly when the old one is done writing
the new state to the device. So we actually _win_ by not protecting the
write and allowing the write to be combined with the current write. A new
worker is still scheduled, but will not write any new state. So the LED
will not blink unnecessarily on the device.
Assume we have the LED set to 0. Two request come in which enable the LED
and immediately disable it. The current situation with two CPUs would be:

As one can see, we no longer send the "LED ON" signal as it is disabled
immediately afterwards and the following "LED OFF" request overwrites the
pending "LED ON".
It is important to note that hid_set_field() is not atomic, so we might
also end up with any other value. But that doesn't matter either as we
_always_ schedule the next work with a correct value and schedule_work()
acts as memory barrier, anyways. So in the worst case, we run
__usbhid_submit_report(..<garbage>..) in the first case and the following
__usbhid_submit_report() will write the correct value. But LED states are
booleans so any garbage will be converted to either 0 or 1 and the remote
device will never see invalid requests.
Why all this? It avoids any custom locking around hid_set_field() in
usbhid and finally allows us to provide a generic hidinput_input_event()
handler for all HID transport drivers.

HID special drivers can use safely the devres API.
Use it to remove 25 lines of code and to clean up a little the error paths.
Besides the basic kzalloc -> devm_kzalloc conversions, I changed the
place of the allocation of the new name. Doing this right in
mt_input_configured() removes the kstrdup call which was not very helpful
and the new way is simpler to understand (and to debug).

It is safe to use devres allocation within the hid subsystem:
- the devres release is called _after_ the call to .remove(), meaning
that no freed pointers will exists while removing the device
- if a .probe() fails, devres releases all the allocated ressources
before going to the next driver: there will not be ghost ressources
attached to a hid device if several drivers are probed.
Given that, we can clean up a little some of the HID drivers. These ones
are trivial:
- there is only one kzalloc in the driver
- the .remove() callback contains only one kfree on top of hid_hw_stop()
- the error path in the probe is easy enough to be manually checked

The driver currently only supports the Dual Arcade controller.
It fixes the negative axis event values (the devices sends -2) to match the
logical axis minimum of the HID report descriptor (the report announces -1).
It is needed because hid-input discards out of bounds values.

Commit f04d51404f (HID: driver for PS2/3 Buzz controllers) introduced
an input_mapping() callback, but set the return value to -1 to all devices
except the Buzz controllers. The result of this is that the Sixaxis input
device is not populated, making it useless.

strict_strtoul() is obsolete. Thus, kstrtoul() should be
used.

Set querying_devices flag to true when we start the enumeration
process.
This was missing from the original patch. It never produced
undesirable effects as it is highly improbable to have a second
enumeration triggered while a first one was still in progress.
