Several problems fixed in this patch :
1) Target of the conditional jump in case a divide by 0 is performed
by a bpf is wrong.
2) Must 'generate' the full function prologue/epilogue at pass=0,
or else we can stop too early in pass=1 if the proglen doesnt change.
(if the increase of prologue/epilogue equals decrease of all
instructions length because some jumps are converted to near jumps)
3) Change the wrong length detection at the end of code generation to
issue a more explicit message, no need for a full stack trace.

The vmlinux file for s390 contains a currently unused entry point,
which is specified in two different locations: the linker script
and the makefile. As it happens both definitions are different and
the linker file is broken (_start does not exist) and the makefile
specifies an entry point which makes no sense (the SALIPL loader
entry point).
So lets get rid of one definition (the makefile) and use the entry
point of all other ipl methods (0x10000 -> startup) to be consistent.

Use evil merge to fix up grammar mistakes in Kconfig file.
Bad speling and horrible grammar (and copious swearing) is to be
expected, but let's keep it to commit messages and comments, rather than
expose it to users in config help texts or printouts.
pit_expect_msb() returns success wrongly in the below SMI scenario:
a. pit_verify_msb() has not yet seen the MSB transition.
b. we are close to the MSB transition though and got a SMI immediately after
returning from pit_verify_msb() which didn't see the MSB transition. PIT MSB
transition has happened somewhere during SMI execution.
c. returned from SMI and we noted down the 'tsc', saw the pit MSB change now and
exited the loop to calculate 'deltatsc'. Instead of noting the TSC at the MSB
transition, we are way off because of the SMI. And as the SMI happened
between the pit_verify_msb() and before the 'tsc' is recorded in the
for loop, 'delattsc' (d1/d2 in quick_pit_calibrate()) will be small and
quick_pit_calibrate() will not notice this error.
Depending on whether SMI disturbance happens while computing d1 or d2, we will
see the TSC calibrated value smaller or bigger than the expected value. As a
result, in a cluster we were seeing a variation of approximately +/- 20MHz in
the calibrated values, resulting in NTP failures.
[ As far as the SMI source is concerned, this is a periodic SMI that gets
disabled after ACPI is enabled by the OS. But the TSC calibration happens
before the ACPI is enabled. ]
To address this, change pit_expect_msb() so that
- the 'tsc' is the TSC in between the two reads that read the MSB
change from the PIT (same as before)
- the 'delta' is the difference in TSC from *before* the MSB changed
to *after* the MSB changed.
Now the delta is twice as big as before (it covers four PIT accesses,
roughly 4us) and quick_pit_calibrate() will loop a bit longer to get
the calibrated value with in the 500ppm precision. As the delta (d1/d2)
covers four PIT accesses, actual calibrated result might be closer to
250ppm precision.
As the loop now takes longer to stabilize, double MAX_QUICK_PIT_MS to 50.
SMI disturbance will showup as much larger delta's and the loop will take
longer than usual for the result to be with in the accepted precision. Or will
fallback to slow PIT calibration if it takes more than 50msec.
Also while we are at this, remove the calibration correction that aims to
get the result to the middle of the error bars. We really don't know which
direction to correct into, so remove it.

This patch provides functionality to audit system call events on the
ARM platform. The implementation was based off the structure of the
MIPS platform and information in this
(http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/arm/2009-October/000382.html)
mailing list thread. The required audit_syscall_exit and
audit_syscall_entry checks were added to ptrace using the standard
registers for system call values (r0 through r3). A thread information
flag was added for auditing (TIF_SYSCALL_AUDIT) and a meta-flag was
added (_TIF_SYSCALL_WORK) to simplify modifications to the syscall
entry/exit. Now, if either the TRACE flag is set or the AUDIT flag is
set, the syscall_trace function will be executed. The prober changes
were made to Kconfig to allow CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL to be enabled.
Due to platform availability limitations, this patch was only tested
on the Android platform running the modified "android-goldfish-2.6.29"
kernel. A test compile was performed using Code Sourcery's
cross-compilation toolset and the current linux-3.0 stable kernel. The
changes compile without error. I'm hoping, due to the simple modifications,
the patch is "obviously correct".

In the ia32entry syscall exit audit fastpath we have assembly code which calls
__audit_syscall_exit directly. This code was, however, zeroes the upper 32
bits of the return code. It then proceeded to call code which expects longs
to be 64bits long. In order to handle code which expects longs to be 64bit we
sign extend the return code if that code is an error. Thus the
__audit_syscall_exit function can correctly handle using the values in
snprintf("%ld"). This fixes the regression introduced in 5cbf1565f2.

The audit system previously expected arches calling to audit_syscall_exit to
supply as arguments if the syscall was a success and what the return code was.
Audit also provides a helper AUDITSC_RESULT which was supposed to simplify things
by converting from negative retcodes to an audit internal magic value stating
success or failure. This helper was wrong and could indicate that a valid
pointer returned to userspace was a failed syscall. The fix is to fix the
layering foolishness. We now pass audit_syscall_exit a struct pt_reg and it
in turns calls back into arch code to collect the return value and to
determine if the syscall was a success or failure. We also define a generic
is_syscall_success() macro which determines success/failure based on if the
value is < -MAX_ERRNO. This works for arches like x86 which do not use a
separate mechanism to indicate syscall failure.
We make both the is_syscall_success() and regs_return_value() static inlines
instead of macros. The reason is because the audit function must take a void*
for the regs. (uml calls theirs struct uml_pt_regs instead of just struct
pt_regs so audit_syscall_exit can't take a struct pt_regs). Since the audit
function takes a void* we need to use static inlines to cast it back to the
arch correct structure to dereference it.
The other major change is that on some arches, like ia64, MIPS and ppc, we
change regs_return_value() to give us the negative value on syscall failure.
THE only other user of this macro, kretprobe_example.c, won't notice and it
makes the value signed consistently for the audit functions across all archs.
In arch/sh/kernel/ptrace_64.c I see that we were using regs[9] in the old
audit code as the return value. But the ptrace_64.h code defined the macro
regs_return_value() as regs[3]. I have no idea which one is correct, but this
patch now uses the regs_return_value() function, so it now uses regs[3].
For powerpc we previously used regs->result but now use the
regs_return_value() function which uses regs->gprs[3]. regs->gprs[3] is
always positive so the regs_return_value(), much like ia64 makes it negative
before calling the audit code when appropriate.

In SRAT v1, we had 8bit proximity domain (PXM) fields; SRAT v2 provides
32bits for these. The new fields were reserved before.
According to the ACPI spec, the OS must disregrard reserved fields.
ia64 did handle the PXM fields almost consistently, but depending on
sgi's sn2 platform. This patch leaves the sn2 logic in, but does also
use 16/32 bits for PXM if the SRAT has rev 2 or higher.
The patch also adds __init to the two pxm accessor functions, as they
access __initdata now and are called from an __init function only anyway.
Note that the code only uses 16 bits for the PXM field in the processor
proximity field; the patch does not address this as 16 bits are more than
enough.

Some firmware will access memory in ACPI NVS region via APEI. That
is, instructions in APEI ERST/EINJ table will read/write ACPI NVS
region. The original resource conflict checking in APEI code will
check memory/ioport accessed by APEI via general resource management
mechanism. But ACPI NVS region is marked as busy already, so that the

This patch implements a workaround for a UV2 hardware bug.
The bug is a non-atomic update of a memory-mapped register. When
hardware message delivery and software message acknowledge occur
simultaneously the pending message acknowledge for the arriving
message may be lost. This causes the sender's message status to
stay busy.
Part of the workaround is to not acknowledge a completed message
until it is verified that no other message is actually using the
resource that is mistakenly recorded in the completed message.
Part of the workaround is to test for long elapsed time in such
a busy condition, then handle it by using a spare sending
descriptor. The stay-busy condition is eventually timed out by
hardware, and then the original sending descriptor can be
re-used. Most of that logic change is in keeping track of the
current descriptor and the state of the spares.
The occurrences of the workaround are added to the BAU
statistics.

Update the use of the Broadcast Assist Unit on SGI Altix UV2 to
the use of native UV2 mode on new hardware (not the legacy mode).
UV2 native mode has a different format for a broadcast message.
We also need quick differentiaton between UV1 and UV2.

When suspending, there was a large list of warnings going something like:
Device 'machinecheck1' does not have a release() function, it is broken and must be fixed
This patch turns the static mce_devices into dynamically allocated, and
properly frees them when they are removed from the system. It solves
the warning messages on my laptop here.

This hooks dtc into Kbuild's dependency system.
Thus, for example, "make dtbs" will rebuild tegra-harmony.dtb if only
tegra20.dtsi has changed yet tegra-harmony.dts has not. The previous
lack of this feature recently caused me to have very confusing "git
bisect" results.
For ARM, it's obvious what to add to $(targets). I'm not familiar enough
with other architectures to know what to add there. Powerpc appears to
already add various .dtb files into $(targets), but the other archs may
need something added to $(targets) to work.

Fix up conflicts in scripts/mod/file2alias.c due to the new linker-
generated table approach to adding __mod_*_device_table entries. The
ARM sa11x0 mcp bus needed to be converted to that too.
The existing gpio_to_irq() implementation on sa1100 only translates
validly for internal GPIOs. Since this sub-arch enables GPIOLIB
support, this results in buggy translations for non-internal GPIOs.
Get rid of the private gpio_to_irq() implementation, replacing it

Commit 8a25a2fd12 ("cpu: convert 'cpu' and 'machinecheck' sysdev_class
to a regular subsystem") changed how things are dealt with in the MCE
subsystem. Some of the things that got broken due to this are CPU
hotplug and suspend/hibernate.
MCE uses per_cpu allocations of struct device. So, when a CPU goes
offline and comes back online, in order to ensure that we start from a
clean slate with respect to the MCE subsystem, zero out the entire
per_cpu device structure to 0 before using it.

Several platforms are now using the memblock_alloc+memblock_free+
memblock_remove trick to obtain memory which won't be mapped in the
kernel's page tables. Most platforms do this (correctly) in the
->reserve callback. However, OMAP has started to call these functions
outside of this callback, and this is extremely unsafe - memory will
not be unmapped, and could well be given out after memblock is no
longer responsible for its management.
So, provide arm_memblock_steal() to perform this function, and ensure
that it panic()s if it is used inappropriately. Convert everyone
over, including OMAP.
As a result, OMAP with OMAP4_ERRATA_I688 enabled will panic on boot
with this change. Mark this option as BROKEN and make it depend on
BROKEN. OMAP needs to be fixed, or 137d105d50 (ARM: OMAP4: Fix
errata i688 with MPU interconnect barriers.) reverted until such
time it can be fixed correctly.

A note on this: often people will develop a new userspace-visible
feature and will develop userspace code to exercise/test that
feature. Then they merge the patch and the selftest code dies.
Sometimes we paste it into the changelog. Sometimes the code gets
thrown into Documentation/(!).
This saddens me. So this patch creates a bare-bones framework which
will henceforth allow me to ask people to include their test apps in
the kernel tree so we can keep them alive. Then when people enhance
or fix the feature, I can ask them to update the test app too.
The infrastruture is terribly trivial at present - let's see how it
evolves.
- checkpoint/restart feature work.
A note on this: this is a project by various mad Russians to perform
c/r mainly from userspace, with various oddball helper code added
into the kernel where the need is demonstrated.
So rather than some large central lump of code, what we have is
little bits and pieces popping up in various places which either
expose something new or which permit something which is normally
kernel-private to be modified.
The overall project is an ongoing thing. I've judged that the size
and scope of the thing means that we're more likely to be successful
with it if we integrate the support into mainline piecemeal rather
than allowing it all to develop out-of-tree.
However I'm less confident than the developers that it will all
eventually work! So what I'm asking them to do is to wrap each piece
of new code inside CONFIG_CHECKPOINT_RESTORE. So if it all
eventually comes to tears and the project as a whole fails, it should
be a simple matter to go through and delete all trace of it.
This lot pretty much wraps up the -rc1 merge for me.

While implementing cmpxchg_double() on s390 I realized that we don't set
CONFIG_CMPXCHG_LOCAL despite the fact that we have support for it.
However setting that option will increase the size of struct page by
eight bytes on 64 bit, which we certainly do not want. Also, it doesn't
make sense that a present cpu feature should increase the size of struct
page.
Besides that it looks like the dependency to CMPXCHG_LOCAL is wrong and
that it should depend on CMPXCHG_DOUBLE instead.
This patch:
If an architecture supports CMPXCHG_LOCAL this shouldn't result
automatically in larger struct pages if the SLUB allocator is used.
Instead introduce a new config option "HAVE_ALIGNED_STRUCT_PAGE" which
can be selected if a double word aligned struct page is required. Also
update x86 Kconfig so that it should work as before.

It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version

The RSK+ setup code was doing some pretty dubious things with
parse_mtd_partitions() in order to populate the physmap-flash map
platform data. The physmap-flash driver contains all of the functionality
that we require already, so simply drop the special casing and pad out
the platform data accordingly.

The cache functions lock out interrupts for long periods; this patch
reduces the impact when operating on large address ranges. In such
cases it will:
- Invalidate the entire cache rather than individual addresses.
- Do nothing when flushing the operand cache in write-through mode.
- When flushing the operand cache in write-back mdoe, index the
search for matching addresses on the cache entires instead of the
addresses to flush
Note: sh2a__flush_purge_region was only invalidating the operand
cache, this adds flush.

Fix up conflicts in drivers/pci/msi.c and include/linux/pci_regs.h due
to the same patches being applied in other branches.
This patch contains r8a7779 SMP support V3 - now including
CPU hotplug offine and online support. The r8a7779 power
domain code is tied together with SMP glue code which allows
us to control the power domains via CPU hotplug.
At this point the kernel boots with the 4 Cortex-A9 cores in
SMP mode and all CPU cores except CPU0 can be hotplugged.
The code in platsmp.c is quite far from pretty, but it is
kept like that intentionally to avoid creating layers of
code that will go away in the near future anyway. The code
needs to be updated when some per-SoC handling code will be
added to the ARM architecture, see the following patch for
more information:

frv, h8300, m68k, microblaze, openrisc, score, um and xtensa currently
do not register a CPU device. Add the config option GENERIC_CPU_DEVICES
which causes a generic CPU device to be registered for each present CPU,
and make all these architectures select it.
Richard Weinberger <richard@nod.at> covered UML and suggested using
per_cpu.

Rather than letting them get allocated dynamically where we don't know
where they are, and also name the data line resource as gpio-generic
requires that. Without these changes the GPIOs are useless.

On MIPS the generic PCI code has always defaulted to L1_CACHE_BYTES
because the architecutre PCI code did not provide a better default.
In particular on systems with S-caches or T-caches this was suboptimal.
Provide a better default by setting pci_dfl_cache_line_size based on
the size of the line size of the lowest level of the cache hierarchy.

Fix up trivial conflicts due to changes nearby in arch/{m68k,score}/Kconfig
Unpaired calling of __trace_hcall_entry and __trace_hcall_exit could
cause incorrect preempt count. And it might happen as the global
variable hcall_tracepoint_refcount is checked separately before calling
them.

Tracepoints should not be called inside an rcu_idle_enter/rcu_idle_exit
region. Since pSeries calls H_CEDE in the idle loop, we were violating
this rule.
commit a7b152d534 (powerpc: Tell RCU about idle after hcall tracing)
tried to work around it by delaying the rcu_idle_enter until after we
called the hcall tracepoint, but there are a number of issues with it.
The hcall tracepoint trampoline code is called conditionally when the
tracepoint is enabled. If the tracepoint is not enabled we never call
rcu_idle_enter. The idle_uses_rcu check was also done at compile time
which breaks multiplatform builds.
The simple fix is to avoid tracing H_CEDE and rely on other tracepoints
and the hypervisor dispatch trace log to work out if we called H_CEDE.
This fixes a hang during boot on pSeries.

Unlike other architectures, sparc currently has no SA_NODEFER definition
but only the older SA_NOMASK. Since SA_NOMASK is the historical name for
SA_NODEFER, add SA_NODEFER and copy what other architectures do by making
SA_NOMASK a synonym for SA_NODEFER.

Randomization of PIE load address is hard coded in binfmt_elf.c for X86
and ARM. Create a new Kconfig variable
(CONFIG_ARCH_BINFMT_ELF_RANDOMIZE_PIE) for this and use it instead. Thus
architecture specific policy is pushed out of the generic binfmt_elf.c and
into the architecture Kconfig files.
X86 and ARM Kconfigs are modified to select the new variable so there is
no change in behavior. A follow on patch will select it for MIPS too.

SUN4M per-cpu timers have two modes of work. These are timer mode and
counter mode. Kernel doesn't write anything to the register, which is
connected with mode choice.
So, the mode is chosen by bootloader. This patch forces to use timer
mode from the kernel and to be independent of bootloader.
I had this problem with OpenBIOS. Timers don't tick and kernel fails on
QEMU, when it's compiled with SMP support. The patch fixes problem.

Add power domain control support for the r8a7779 SoC V2.
This adds support for 4 power domains for I/O Devices
together with code that can be used for CPU cores as well.
The only out of the ordinary experience is the need for
ioremap() of SYSC registers. Because of that we need to
execute some init function before setting up the domains.

do_notify_resume() can trigger the freezer via the try_to_freeze() path
(both explicitly through a redundant call in do_signal() or via
get_signal_to_deliver()). That IRQs were disabled across this callsite
became apparent with the might_sleep() introduction in try_to_freeze() by
Tejun in a0acae0e88, resulting in:

atomic64_read() doesn't actually write anything (as far as the C
environment is concerned... the CPU does actually write but that's an
implementation quirk), so it should take a const pointer.
This does NOT mean that it is safe to use atomic64_read() on an object
in readonly storage (it will trap!)

As described in e6fa16ab ("signal: sigprocmask() should do
retarget_shared_pending()") the modification of current->blocked is
incorrect as we need to check whether the signal we're about to block
is pending in the shared queue.

While debugging udev > 170 failure on Debian Wheezy

Fix up conflicts in arch/s390/kernel/{smp.c,topology.c} due to the
sysdev removal clashing with "topology: get rid of ifdefs" which moved
some of that code around.

Pull in previously resolved conflicts:
The Makefiles were reorganized in the "rmk/restart" series and modified
in the "samsung/cleanup series". This also pulls in the other conflict
resolutions from the restart series against the samsung/dt series.
