1) ACPI-based PCI hotplug (ACPIPHP) fixes related to spurious events
After the recent ACPIPHP changes we've seen some interesting breakage
on a system that triggers device check notifications during boot for
non-existing devices. Although those notifications are really
spurious, we should be able to deal with them nevertheless and that
shouldn't introduce too much overhead. Four commits to make that
work properly.
2) Memory hotplug and hibernation mutual exclusion rework
This was maent to be a cleanup, but it happens to fix a classical
ABBA deadlock between system suspend/hibernation and ACPI memory
hotplug which is possible if they are started roughly at the same
time. Three commits rework memory hotplug so that it doesn't
acquire pm_mutex and make hibernation use device_hotplug_lock
which prevents it from racing with memory hotplug.
3) ACPI Intel LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver crash fix
The ACPI LPSS driver crashes during boot on Apple Macbook Air with
Haswell that has slightly unusual BIOS configuration in which one
of the LPSS device's _CRS method doesn't return all of the information
expected by the driver. Fix from Mika Westerberg, for stable.
4) ACPICA fix related to Store->ArgX operation
AML interpreter fix for obscure breakage that causes AML to be
executed incorrectly on some machines (observed in practice). From
Bob Moore.
5) ACPI core fix for PCI ACPI device objects lookup
There still are cases in which there is more than one ACPI device
object matching a given PCI device and we don't choose the one that
the BIOS expects us to choose, so this makes the lookup take more
criteria into account in those cases.
6) Fix to prevent cpuidle from crashing in some rare cases
If the result of cpuidle_get_driver() is NULL, which can happen on
some systems, cpuidle_driver_ref() will crash trying to use that
pointer and the Daniel Fu's fix prevents that from happening.
7) cpufreq fixes related to CPU hotplug
Stephen Boyd reported a number of concurrency problems with cpufreq
related to CPU hotplug which are addressed by a series of fixes
from Srivatsa S Bhat and Viresh Kumar.
8) cpufreq fix for time conversion in time_in_state attribute
Time conversion carried out by cpufreq when user space attempts to
read /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state won't
work correcty if cputime_t doesn't map directly to jiffies. Fix
from Andreas Schwab.
9) Revert of a troublesome cpufreq commit
Commit 7c30ed5 (cpufreq: make sure frequency transitions are
serialized) was intended to address some known concurrency problems
in cpufreq related to the ordering of transitions, but unfortunately
it introduced several problems of its own, so I decided to revert it
now and address the original problems later in a more robust way.
10) Intel Haswell CPU models for intel_pstate from Nell Hardcastle.

As any code that works with user data this driver isn't recommended to use
to write cards that contain valuable data.
It tries its best though to avoid data corruption and possible damage to
the card.

Always emit function name with pkt_dbg(2, ...) uses and remove the
sometimes abbreviated embedded function name.

If the system has trouble allocating memory for the creation of the aoe
debugfs directory or of a file inside it, the debugfs member of an aoedev
can be NULL.
Do not treat a NULL debugfs pointer as a BUG on aoedev shutdown, avoiding
the user impact of an unecessary panic.

This series adds the debugging information that the coraid.com-distributed
aoe driver exports via sysfs, but instead of sysfs, it uses debugfs.
With these patches applied, even without AoE targets on the network, KEDR
reports new possible memory leaks, but these are from callers outside the
aoe driver that have used aoe_devnode to get the name of the character
devices through the aoe_class->devnode callback, and I believe they're
responsible for freeing that memory.
This patch:
Create and destroy the debugfs directory.

Convert the composition of devm_request_mem_region and devm_ioremap to a
single call to devm_ioremap_resource. The associated call to
platform_get_resource is also simplified and moved next to the new call
to devm_ioremap_resource.
This was done using a combination of the semantic patches
devm_ioremap_resource.cocci and devm_request_and_ioremap.cocci, found in
the scripts/coccinelle/api directory.
In rtc-lpc32xx.c and rtc-mv.c, the local variable size is no longer needed.
In rtc-ds1511.c the size field of the local structure is not useful any
more, and is deleted.

Palmas series device like TPS65913, TPS80036 supports the backup battery
for powering the RTC when no other energy source is available.
The backup battery is optional, connected to the VBACKUP pin, and can be
nonrechargeable or rechargeable. The rechargeable battery can be charged
from the system supply using the backup battery charger.
Add support for enabling charging of this backup battery. Also add the DT
binding document and the new properties to have this support.

On some platforms (like AM33xx), a special register (RTC_IRQWAKEEN) is
available to enable Alarm Wakeup feature. This register needs to be
properly handled for the rtcwake to work properly.
Platforms using such IP should set "ti,am3352-rtc" in rtc device dt
compatibility node.

In order to get the module automatically loaded by hotplug mechanisms a
MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is needed.
Therefore add one.
This makes it also possible to use a module name other than
HID-SENSOR-2000a0 which isn't very descriptive in kernel messages.

As reported by Joe Perches: OOM messages generally aren't useful.
dmi_alloc is either a trivial front-end to kzalloc, and kzalloc already
does a dump_stack() when OOM, or for x86, dmi_alloc uses extend_brk
which BUGs when unsuccessful.
So we can remove all 6 such log messages in the dmi_scan driver, to
shrink the binary size (by 528 bytes on x86_64.)

This comment predates the introduction of early_ioremap. Since then the
missing calls to dmi_iounmap have been added by Ingo and Yinghai in
commits 0d64484f7e ("x86: fix DMI ioremap leak") and 3212bff370
("x86: left over fix for leak of early_ioremp in dmi_scan") . That was
over 5 years ago so it is about time to drop this now misleading

pnp_bus_suspend() and pnp_bus_resume() invoke legacy pm_ops from
pnp_driver. Changed pnp_bus_suspend() and pnp_bus_resume() to check if
pnp driver has dev_pm_ops and call. If dev_pm_ops don't exist, then call
use legacy pm_ops. Without this change, pnp_driver dev_pm_ops will not
get called.
In addition to the pnp driver bus pm_ops change to invoke driver
dev_pm_ops, this patch set contains changes to rtc-cmos, tpm_tis, and
apple-gmux pnp drivers to convert from legacy pm_ops to dev_pm_ops.
This patch (of 4):

At one time we used to set the maximum number of scatter gather elements
on all Smart Array controllers to 32. At some point in time the
firmware began to write the "appropriate" value for each controller into
the config table. The cciss driver would then read that and set
h->maxsgentries.
h->maxsgentries = readl(&(h->cfgtable->MaxSGElements);
On the P600 that value is 544. Under some workloads a significant
performance reduction may result. This patch forces the P600 to use
only 32 scatter gather elements. Other controllers are not affected.

Kernel panics due to NULL lport while executing the log message because
of synchronization issues between libfc and scsi transport fc. Checking
for NULL pointers at the beginning of this routine would resolve the issue
from kernel panic point of view.

Hitting BUG_ON(io_req->abts_done) in fnic_rport_exch_reset in case of
timing issue and also to some extent locking issue where abts and terminate
is happening around same timing.
The code changes are intended to update CMD_STATE(sc) and
io_req->abts_done together.

Issue was seen when SCSI buffer address is more than 40 bits in system
with more than 1.1TB RAM. When SCSI buffer is passed to VIC, it is failing
to map to correct buffer address, as DMA mask is set to 40 bits in driver
initialization. Corrected DMA_MASK from 40-bits to 64-bits to avoid masking
41-64 bits addresses.

Occasionally we seem to miss an IRQ from the ME (microengine). I'm not
entirely sure the root cause, but for now we can unwedge things by
retiring from the hangcheck timer.

When we CPU_PREP a bo with NOSYNC flag (for example, to implement
PIPE_TRANSFER_DISCARD_WHOLE_RESOURCE), an -EBUSY return indicates to
userspace that the bo is still busy. Previously it was incorrectly
returning 0 in this case.
And while we're in there throw in an bit of extra sanity checking in
case userspace tries to wait for a bogus fence.

In case of error, the function drm_prime_pages_to_sg() returns ERR_PTR()
and never returns NULL. The NULL test in the return value check should
be replaced with IS_ERR().

In cpufreq_policy_restore() before system suspend policy is read from
percpu's cpufreq_cpu_data_fallback. It's a read operation rather
than a write one, so take the lock for reading in there.

If update_policy_cpu() is invoked with the existing policy->cpu itself
as the new-cpu parameter, then a lot of things can go terribly wrong.
In its present form, update_policy_cpu() always assumes that the new-cpu
is different from policy->cpu and invokes other functions to perform their
respective updates. And those functions implement the actual update like
this:
per_cpu(..., new_cpu) = per_cpu(..., last_cpu);
per_cpu(..., last_cpu) = NULL;
Thus, when new_cpu == last_cpu, the final NULL assignment makes the per-cpu
references vanish into thin air! (memory leak). From there, it leads to more
problems: cpufreq_stats_create_table() now doesn't find the per-cpu reference
and hence tries to create a new sysfs-group; but sysfs already had created
the group earlier, so it complains that it cannot create a duplicate filename.
In short, the repercussions of a rather innocuous invocation of
update_policy_cpu() can turn out to be pretty nasty.
Ideally update_policy_cpu() should handle this situation (new == last)
gracefully, and not lead to such severe problems. So fix it by adding an
appropriate check.

In __cpufreq_remove_dev_prepare(), the code which decides whether to remove
the sysfs link or nominate a new policy cpu, is governed by an if/else block
with a rather complex set of conditionals. Worse, they harbor a subtlety
which leads to certain unintended behavior.
The code looks like this:

} else if (cpus > 1) {
new_cpu = cpufreq_nominate_new_policy_cpu(...);
...
update_policy_cpu(..., new_cpu);
}
The original intention was:
If the CPU going offline is not policy->cpu, just remove the link.
On the other hand, if the CPU going offline is the policy->cpu itself,
handover the policy->cpu job to some other surviving CPU in that policy.
But because the 'if' condition also includes the 'frozen' check, now there
are *two* possibilities by which we can enter the 'else' block:
1. cpu == policy->cpu (intended)
2. cpu != policy->cpu && frozen (unintended)
Due to the second (unintended) scenario, we end up spuriously nominating
a CPU as the policy->cpu, even when the existing policy->cpu is alive and
well. This can cause problems further down the line, especially when we end
up nominating the same policy->cpu as the new one (ie., old == new),
because it totally confuses update_policy_cpu().
To avoid this mess, restructure the if/else block to only do what was
originally intended, and thus prevent any unwelcome surprises.

Stephen Warren reported that the cpufreq-stats code hits a NULL pointer
dereference during the second attempt to suspend a system. He also
pin-pointed the problem to commit 5302c3f "cpufreq: Perform light-weight
init/teardown during suspend/resume".
That commit actually ensured that the cpufreq-stats table and the
cpufreq-stats sysfs entries are *not* torn down (ie., not freed) during
suspend/resume, which makes it all the more surprising. However, it turns
out that the root-cause is not that we access an already freed memory, but
that the reference to the allocated memory gets moved around and we lose
track of that during resume, leading to the reported crash in a subsequent
suspend attempt.
In the suspend path, during CPU offline, the value of policy->cpu is updated
by choosing one of the surviving CPUs in that policy, as long as there is
atleast one CPU in that policy. And cpufreq_stats_update_policy_cpu() is
invoked to update the reference to the stats structure by assigning it to
the new CPU. However, in the resume path, during CPU online, we end up
assigning a fresh CPU as the policy->cpu, without letting cpufreq-stats
know about this. Thus the reference to the stats structure remains
(incorrectly) associated with the old CPU. So, in a subsequent suspend attempt,
during CPU offline, we end up accessing an incorrect location to get the
stats structure, which eventually leads to the NULL pointer dereference.
Fix this by letting cpufreq-stats know about the update of the policy->cpu
during CPU online in the resume path. (Also, move the update_policy_cpu()
function higher up in the file, so that __cpufreq_add_dev() can invoke
it).

Adding the device list from the Windows driver description files
included with a new Qualcomm MDM9615 based device, "Alcatel-sbell
ASB TL131 TDD LTE", from China Mobile. This device is tested
and verified to work. The others are assumed to work based on
using the same Windows driver.
Many of these devices support multiple QMI/wwan ports, requiring
multiple interface matching entries. All devices are composite,
providing a mix of one or more serial, storage or Android Debug
Brigde functions in addition to the wwan function.
This device list included an update of one previously known device,
which was incorrectly assumed to have a Gobi 2K layout. This is
corrected.

Let me start by saying thanks and we appreciate any time spent by
those of you who review and comment on this new driver, and we will
attempt to address and respond to all issues brought to our attention.
I tried to break the patches up to ease review, but the series should
apply and still be bisectable, as the last patch adds the driver to
the kernel compile with CONFIG_I40E.
This driver is for a brand new bit of silicon that has a different
design than other Intel Ethernet silicon, and therefore needed a new
driver.
The hardware has quite a bit of capability and this driver is only
meant to provide basic functionality at first. Future patches will
continue to add functionality and bug fixes.
This initial release is very early in the product cycle with the intent
of getting initial support into the kernel before users have the
hardware available to purchase. A software development manual is not
ready yet but will be available when the hardware ships.
The driver development model and interaction with community submitted
patches *will not be any different* than what we are currently doing
today. We plan to continue established processes.
An associated i40evf driver has been posted for review.

The "id" variable was being incremented in common code, but only
initialized and used in IPv4 code. We move the increment to the IPv4
code too, and then legitimately use the uninitialized_var() macro to
avoid the gcc 4.6 warning that 'id' may be used uninitialized.
Note that gcc 4.7 does not warn.

Currently macvlan calls skb_clone in macvlan_broadcast but checks
for a NULL return in macvlan_broadcast_one instead. This is
needlessly confusing and may lead to bugs introduced later.
This patch moves the error check to where the skb_clone call is.
The only other caller of macvlan_broadcast_one never passes in a
NULL value so it doesn't need the check either.

We make bond_arp_rcv global so it can be used in bond_sysfs if the bond
interface is up and arp_interval is being changed to a positive value
and cleared otherwise as per Jay's suggestion.
This also fixes a problem where bond_arp_rcv was set even though
arp_validate was disabled while the bond was up by unsetting recv_probe
in bond_store_arp_validate and respectively setting it if enabled.

During initialization bnx2x allocates significant amounts of memory
(for rx data, rx SGEs, TPA pool) using atomic allocations.
I received a report where bnx2x failed to allocate SGEs and it had
to fall back to TPA-less operation.
Let's use GFP_KERNEL allocations during initialization, which runs
in process context. Add gfp_t parameters to functions that are used
both in initialization and in the receive path.
Use an unlikely branch in bnx2x_frag_alloc() to avoid atomic allocation
by netdev_alloc_frag(). The branch is taken several thousands of times
during initialization, but then never more. Note that fp->rx_frag_size
is never greater than PAGE_SIZE, so __get_free_page() can be used here.

In decrease_reservation(), if the kernel is preempted between updating
the mapping and updating the p2m then they may end up using different
scratch pages.
Use get_balloon_scratch_page() and put_balloon_scratch_page() which use
get_cpu_var() and put_cpu_var() to correctly disable preemption.

This patch fixes an out-of-bounds error in sd_read_cache_type(), found
by Google's AddressSanitizer tool. When the loop ends, we know that
"offset" lies beyond the end of the data in the buffer, so no Caching
mode page was found. In theory it may be present, but the buffer size
is limited to 512 bytes.

bapm is a pm feature for sharing the power budget between
the GPU and the CPU on APUs. It needs to be enabled or
disabled in certain circumstances. For now, disable it
when on battery and enable it when on AC power.

The hwmon sysfs interface allows exposing temperature limits. The "max"
and "min" thresholds will be exposed as a critical high limit and its
hysteresis value, respectively. This gives the user a better idea of how
well cooling is doing and whether it is sufficient.

The OUTPUT_ENABLE action jumps past the point in the coder where
the data_offset is set on certain rs780 cards. This worked
previously because the OUTPUT_ENABLE action is always called
immediately after the ENABLE action so the data_offset remained
set. In 6f8bbaf568c7f2c497558bfd04654c0b9841ad57
(drm/radeon/atom: initialize more atom interpretor elements to 0),
we explictly reset data_offset to 0 between atom calls which then
caused this to fail. The fix is to just skip calling the
OUTPUT_ENABLE action on the problematic chipsets. The ENABLE
action does the same thing and more. Ultimately, we could
probably drop the OUTPUT_ENABLE action all together on DCE3
asics.

Some older 6xx-7xx boards didn't always fill in the
UVD clocks properly in the UVD power states. This
leads to the driver trying to set a 0 clock which
results in slow or broken UVD playback.

Certain r6xx boards use the same power state for both UVD
and other things. Since we don't support UVD on r6xx boards
at the moment, there was no callback installed for setting
the UVD clocks, however, on systems that use the same power
state, this leads to a NULL pointer dereference. Fill
in a stubbed out implementation for now to avoid the crash.

The problem here is that "unsigned i" is always greater than or equal to
zero. These loops mostly have a second check for "(i == 0)" so only the
last two are actually buggy. The rest is just cleanup.
Bug 1: kv_force_dpm_highest() doesn't have an "(i == 0)" check so it's
a potential forever loop.
Bug 2: In kv_get_sleep_divider_id_from_clock() there is a typo and the
test is reversed "<=" vs ">" so we never enter the loop. That means
normally we return KV_MAX_DEEPSLEEP_DIVIDER_ID (5). The return value
from here is saved in ->DeepSleepDivId and I wasn't able to determine
how that is used. This is a static checker fix and I have not tested
it.

kfree() can accept NULL pointers so I have removed the checks. Also
I've used a pointer to shorten the lines.

This provides a connector property to enable/disable hdmi
audio on the fly. The default is disabled, but you can select
auto (let the driver detect an audio capable monitor and enable it)
or enabled (force audio enabled). This also enables audio by
default so you no longer need a module parameter to enable audio.

The internal cp interrupts need to be enabled and
disabled at specific times in order clockgating to
work properly. This patch changes the handling
of the CP_INT_CNTL register to respect the current
state of the internal CP interrupts when making
changes to the other interrupts in CP_INT_CNTL.

After an MC reboot, the datapath may be running a different firmware
variant and have different capabilities. It is critical that we know
the current capabilities so that we can pass valid flags to

Rename efx_ef10_init_capabilities() to the more specific
efx_ef10_init_datapath_caps().
Stop accepting short responses to MC_CMD_GET_CAPABILITIES; we
don't need to support pre-production firmware.
Move the check for RX prefix support from efx_ef10_probe() into
efx_ef10_init_datapath_caps() and use consistent error messages
for missing TSO support and missing RX prefix support.

properly.

Unlike Siena where timestamping is provided by a peripheral, EF10
delivers RX timestamps in the packet prefix. However the driver
doesn't yet support this.
We are also creating a PHC device for each EF10 function, even though
the clock is really shared between all of them.
Disable hardware PTP/timestamping support until it's complete.

This patch bumps the default TCP listen backlog within iscsit_setup_np()
from 5 to 256, in order to reduce the overall latency caused by a small
backlog with 100's of simultaneous login attempts directed to the same
single network portal.
Also add a ISCSIT_TCP_BACKLOG macro in iscsi_target_core.h.

This patch bumps the default TA_DEFAULT_CMDSN_DEPTH from 16 -> 64,
which is closer to a sane default for larger pipes @ 10 Gb/sec
with traditional iSCSI, or @ 40/56 Gb/sec Ethernet/Infiniband with
iSCSI Extentions for RDMA.
There is really no downside to increasing this default value for
1 Gb/sec.

This patch removes an unnecessary wait_for_completion within
iscsi_get_thread_set(), that would wait for 1 second before
trying to obtain an inactive struct iscsi_thread_set from
iscsi_get_ts_from_inactive_list().
Since iscsi_allocate_thread_sets() will already be adding the
newly allocated iscsi_thread_set to the inactive list directly,
there is no need to wait here.

This patch removes the iscsi_thread_set->[rx,tx]_post_start_comp that
was originally used synchronize startup between rx and tx threads within
a single thread_set.
Instead, use a single ->ts_activate_sem in iscsi_activate_thread_set()
to wait for both processes to awake in the RX/TX pre handlers.
Also, go ahead and refactor thread_set deallocate code into a common
iscsi_deallocate_thread_one(), and update iscsi_deallocate_thread_sets()
and iscsi_deallocate_extra_thread_sets() use this code

This patch addresses an long standing race in iscsi_[rx,tx]_thread_pre_handler()
use of flush_signals(), and between iscsi_deallocate_extra_thread_sets() setting
ISCSI_THREAD_SET_DIE before calling kthread_stop().
It addresses the issue by both holding ts_state_lock before calling send_sig()
in iscsi_deallocate_extra_thread_sets(), as well as only calling flush_signals()
when ts->status != ISCSI_THREAD_SET_DIE within iscsi_[rx,tx]_thread_pre_handler()
code.

This model was introduced in 00f7ec36c "RDMA/core: Add memory
management extensions support" and works when the IB device
supports the IB_DEVICE_MEM_MGT_EXTENSIONS capability.
Upon creating the isert device, ib_isert will test whether the HCA
supports FRWR. If supported then set the flag and assign
function pointers that handle fast registration and deregistration
of appropriate resources (fast_reg descriptors).
When new connection coming in, ib_isert will check frwr flag and
create frwr resouces, if fail to do it will switch back to
old model of using global dma key and turn off the frwr support.
Registration is done using posting IB_WR_FAST_REG_MR to the QP and
invalidations using posting IB_WR_LOCAL_INV.

Current driver uses global dma key to register the memory pointed
by sg list provided by the target core.
This is the preparation step for adding more methods like fast
path memory registration, make the reg/unreg calls be function
pointers.

isert_put_datain() and isert_get_dataout() share a lot of code
in rdma wr processing, move this common code to a shared function.

This patch adds the Third Party Copy (3PC) bit to signal support

This patch adds support for EXTENDED_COPY emulation from SPC-3, that
enables full copy offload target support within both a single virtual
backend device, and across multiple virtual backend devices. It also
functions independent of target fabric, and supports copy offload
across multiple target fabric ports.
This implemenation supports both EXTENDED_COPY PUSH and PULL models
of operation, so the actual CDB may be received on either source or
desination logical unit.
For Target Descriptors, it currently supports the NAA IEEE Registered
Extended designator (type 0xe4), which allows the reference of target
ports to occur independent of fabric type using EVPD 0x83 WWNs.
For Segment Descriptors, it currently supports copy from block to
block (0x02) mode.
It also honors any present SCSI reservations of the destination target
port. Note that only Supports No List Identifier (SNLID=1) mode is
supported.
Also included is basic RECEIVE_COPY_RESULTS with service action type
OPERATING PARAMETERS (0x03) required for SNLID=1 operation.

This patch adds a extra check for SCF_COMPARE_AND_WRITE within
transport_generic_request_failure() to invoke the callback for
compare_and_write_callback() or compare_and_write_done(), in
order to release se_dev->caw_mutex from the generic failure
path.
It also adds to checks within compare_and_write_callback() to
avoid processing when transport_generic_request_failure() occurs
early enough that cmd->t_data_sg or cmd->t_bidi_data_sg have not
been setup yet, nor se_dev->caw_mutex obtained from within
sbc_compare_and_write().

This patch changes target_complete_ok_work() to fall through
after calling the se_cmd->transport_complete_callback() ->
compare_and_write_post() callback, by keying off the existance
of SCF_COMPARE_AND_WRITE_POST.
This is necessary because once SCF_COMPARE_AND_WRITE_POST has
been set by compare_and_write_post(), the SCSI response needs
to be sent via TFO->queue_status().

This patch adds support for COMPARE_AND_WRITE emulation on a per block
basis. This logic is used as an atomic test and set primative currently
used by VMWare ESX VAAI for performing array side locking of individual
VMFS extent ownership.
This includes the COMPARE_AND_WRITE CDB parsing within sbc_parse_cdb(),
and does the majority of the work within the compare_and_write_callback()
to perform the verify instance user data comparision, and subsequent
write instance user data I/O submission upon a successfull comparision.
The synchronization is enforced by se_device->caw_sem, that is obtained
before the initial READ I/O submission in sbc_compare_and_write(). The
mutex is then released upon MISCOMPARE in compare_and_write_callback(),
or upon WRITE instance user-data completion in compare_and_write_post().
The implementation currently assumes a single logical block (NoLB=1).

The main shrinker driver will keep trying for a while to free objects if
the returned value from the shrink scan procedure is 0. That means "no
objects now", but a retry could very well succeed.
But what we should say here is a different thing: that it is impossible to
shrink, and we would better bail out soon. We find this behavior more
appropriate for the case where the lock cannot be taken. Specially given
the hammer behavior of the i915: if another thread is already shrinking,
we are likely not to be able to shrink anything anyway when we finally
acquire the mutex.

Convert the driver shrinkers to the new API. Most changes are compile
tested only because I either don't have the hardware or it's staging
stuff.
FWIW, the md and android code is pretty good, but the rest of it makes me
want to claw my eyes out. The amount of broken code I just encountered is
mind boggling. I've added comments explaining what is broken, but I fear
that some of the code would be best dealt with by being dragged behind the
bike shed, burying in mud up to it's neck and then run over repeatedly
with a blunt lawn mower.
Special mention goes to the zcache/zcache2 drivers. They can't co-exist
in the build at the same time, they are under different menu options in
menuconfig, they only show up when you've got the right set of mm
subsystem options configured and so even compile testing is an exercise in
pulling teeth. And that doesn't even take into account the horrible,
broken code...

This patch will add big endian architecture support to megaraid_sas
driver. The support added is for LSI MegaRAID all generation controllers-
(3Gb/s, 6Gb/s and 12 Gb/s controllers).
We have done basic sanity test @ppc64 arch and @x86_64. Additional
testing/observations are welcome.

This patch does a bit of housekeeping for hpsa. Change lowercase alpha hex
digits to uppercase for consistency within the driver. Also moves the P822se

If gpu locks up with the rptr shortly beyond the wrap-around point in
the ringbuffer, because the rptr was not reset (but wptr is, by virtue
of resetting rb->cur), we could end up in a scenario where we think
there is not enough space in the ringbuffer for the next cmds. And
since the CP won't reset rptr until after processing an IB, this leaves
things in a sort of deadlock.
So reset rptr too. And a bit more spiffing up of hangcheck to make
things easier to debug.

The userspace API already had everything needed to handle read vs write
synchronization. This patch actually bothers to hook it up properly, so
that we don't need to (for example) stall on userspace read access to a
buffer that gpu is also still reading.

It is not needed to include asm/dma-contiguous.h header to compile

Instead of just a flag bit for each of the positive/negative sync
modes drm actually uses a separate flag for each ... This upsets the
modeset checker since the adjusted mode filled out at modeset time
doesn't match the one reconstructed at check time (since the
->get_config callback already gets this right).

Each dma-buf has an associated size and it's reasonable for userspace
to want to know what it is.
Since userspace already has an fd, expose the size using the
size = lseek(fd, SEEK_END, 0); lseek(fd, SEEK_CUR, 0);
idiom.

- Early stolen mem reservation from Jesse in x86 boot code. Acked by Ingo
and hpa. This was ready much earlier but somehow I've thought it'd go
in through x86 trees, hence why this is late. Avoids the pci resource
code to plant mmiobars in the middle of stolen mem and other ugliness.
- vgaarb improvements from Alex Williamson plus the fix from Ville for the
vgacon->fbcon smooth transition "feature".
- Render pageflips on ivb/hsw to avoid stalls due to the ring switching
when only flipping on the blitter (Chris).
- Deadlock fixes around our flush_workqueue which crept back in - lockdep

Commit 7c30ed5 (cpufreq: make sure frequency transitions are
serialized) attempted to serialize frequency transitions by
adding checks to the CPUFREQ_PRECHANGE and CPUFREQ_POSTCHANGE
notifications. However, it assumed that the notifications will
always originate from the driver's .target() callback, but they
also can be triggered by cpufreq_out_of_sync() and that leads to

Commit "cpufreq: serialize calls to __cpufreq_governor()" had been a temporary
and partial solution to the race condition between writing to a cpufreq sysfs
file and taking a CPU offline. Now that we have a proper and complete solution
to that problem, remove the temporary fix.

The functions that are used to write to cpufreq sysfs files (such as
store_scaling_max_freq()) are not hotplug safe. They can race with CPU
hotplug tasks and lead to problems such as trying to acquire an already
destroyed timer-mutex etc.

So use get_online_cpus()/put_online_cpus() in the store_*() functions, to
synchronize with CPU hotplug. However, there is an additional point to note
here: some parts of the CPU teardown in the cpufreq subsystem are done in
the CPU_POST_DEAD stage, with cpu_hotplug.lock *released*. So, using the
get/put_online_cpus() functions alone is insufficient; we should also ensure
that we don't race with those latter steps in the hotplug sequence. We can
easily achieve this by checking if the CPU is online before proceeding with
the store, since the CPU would have been marked offline by the time the
CPU_POST_DEAD notifiers are executed.

__cpufreq_remove_dev_finish() handles the kobject cleanup for a CPU going
offline. But because we destroy the kobject towards the end of the CPU offline
phase, there are certain race windows where a task can try to write to a
cpufreq sysfs file (eg: using store_scaling_max_freq()) while we are taking
that CPU offline, and this can bump up the kobject refcount, which in turn might
hinder the CPU offline task from running to completion. (It can also cause
other more serious problems such as trying to acquire a destroyed timer-mutex
etc., depending on the exact stage of the cleanup at which the task managed to
take a new refcount).
To fix the race window, we will need to synchronize those store_*() call-sites
with CPU hotplug, using get_online_cpus()/put_online_cpus(). However, that
in turn can cause a total deadlock because it can end up waiting for the
CPU offline task to complete, with incremented refcount!

A simple way to avoid this problem is to perform the kobject cleanup in the
CPU offline path, with the cpu_hotplug.lock *released*. That is, we can
perform the wait-for-kobj-refcnt-to-drop as well as the subsequent cleanup
in the CPU_POST_DEAD stage of CPU offline, which is run with cpu_hotplug.lock
released. Doing this helps us avoid deadlocks due to holding kobject refcounts
and waiting on each other on the cpu_hotplug.lock.
(Note: We can't move all of the cpufreq CPU offline steps to the
CPU_POST_DEAD stage, because certain things such as stopping the governors
have to be done before the outgoing CPU is marked offline. So retain those
parts in the CPU_DOWN_PREPARE stage itself).

During CPU offline, the cpufreq core invokes __cpufreq_remove_dev()
to perform work such as stopping the cpufreq governor, clearing the
CPU from the policy structure etc, and finally cleaning up the
kobject.
There are certain subtle issues related to the kobject cleanup, and
it would be much easier to deal with them if we separate that part
from the rest of the cleanup-work in the CPU offline phase. So split
the __cpufreq_remove_dev() function into 2 parts: one that handles
the kobject cleanup, and the other that handles the rest of the work.

The time spent by a CPU under a given frequency is stored in jiffies unit
in the cpu var cpufreq_stats_table->time_in_state[i], i being the index of
the frequency.
This is what is displayed in the following file on the right column:

Now cpufreq converts this jiffies unit delta to clock_t before returning it
to the user as in the above file. And that conversion is achieved using the API
cputime64_to_clock_t().
Although it accidentally works on traditional tick based cputime accounting, where
cputime_t maps directly to jiffies, it doesn't work with other types of cputime
accounting such as CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_* where cputime_t can map to nsecs
or any granularity preffered by the architecture.
For example we get a buggy zero delta on full dyntick configurations:

We can't take a big lock around __cpufreq_governor() as this causes
recursive locking for some cases. But calls to this routine must be
serialized for every policy. Otherwise we can see some unpredictable
events.

__cpufreq_governor() returns with -EBUSY when governor is already
stopped and we try to stop it again, but when it is stopped we must
not allow calls to CPUFREQ_GOV_LIMITS event as well.
This patch adds this check in __cpufreq_governor().

This patch adds the MAXIMUM COMPARE AND WRITE LENGTH bit, currently
hardcoded to a single logical block (NoLB=1) within the Block Limits
VPD in spc_emulate_evpd_b0().
Also add emulate_caw device attribute in configfs (enabled by default)
to allow the exposure of this bit to be disabled, if necessary.

After COMPARE_AND_WRITE completes it's comparision, the WRITE
payload SGLs head expect to be updated to point from the verify
instance of user data, to the write instance of user data.
So for this special case, add transport_reset_sgl_orig() usage
within transport_free_pages() and add se_cmd->t_data_[sg,nents]_orig
members to save the original assignments.

This patch updates transport_generic_new_cmd() to call target_alloc_sgl()
for SGL + page memory allocation for se_cmd->t_bidi_data_sg.
It also adds the special case for SCF_COMPARE_AND_WRITE to calculate a
different bidi_length based upon se_cmd->t_task_nolb.
