nand_ecclayout is present in mtd.h at Linux.
Move this structure to mtd.h to comply with Linux.
Also, increase the ecc placement locations to 640 to suport device having
writesize/oobsize of 8KB/640B. This means that the maximum oobsize has gone
up to 640 bytes and consequently the maximum ecc placement locations have
also gone up to 640.
Changes from Prabhabkar's version (squashed into one patch to preserve
bisectability):
- Added _LARGE to MTD_MAX_*_ENTRIES
This makes the names match current Linux source, and resolves
a conflict between
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/280488/
and
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/284513/
The former was posted first and is closer to matching Linux, but
unlike Linux it does not add _LARGE to the names. The second adds
_LARGE to one of the names, and depends on it in a subsequent patch
(http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/284512/).
- Made max oobfree/eccpos configurable, and used this on tricorder,
alpr, ASH405, T4160QDS, and T4240QDS (these boards failed to build
for me without doing so, due to a size increase).
On tricorder SPL, this saves 2576 bytes (and makes the SPL build
again) versus the new default of 640 eccpos and 32 oobfree, and
saves 336 bytes versus the old default of 128 eccpos and 8 oobfree.

Moving the usb/phy code from xhci-omap to the usb/phy directory
and moving the associated phy code over to the new file.
Newer TI processors adding xHCI support will have different PHY configurations
so therefore abstracting this code away will prevent messing around with the
xhci-omap file itself.

Linux modified the MTD driver interface in commit edbc4540 (with the
same name as this commit). The effect is that calls to mtd_read will
not return -EUCLEAN if the number of ECC-corrected bit errors is below
a certain threshold, which defaults to the strength of the ECC. This
allows -EUCLEAN to stop indicating "some bits were corrected" and begin
indicating "a large number of bits were corrected, the data held in
this region of flash may be lost soon". UBI makes use of this and when
-EUCLEAN is returned from mtd_read it will move data to another block
of flash. Without adopting this interface change UBI on U-boot attempts
to move data between blocks every time a single bit is corrected using
the ECC, which is a very common occurance on some devices.
For some devices where bit errors are common enough, UBI can get stuck
constantly moving data around because each block it attempts to use has
a single bit error. This condition is hit when wear_leveling_worker
attempts to move data from one PEB to another in response to an
-EUCLEAN/UBI_IO_BITFLIPS error. When this happens ubi_eba_copy_leb is
called to perform the data copy, and after the data is written it is
read back to check its validity. If that read returns UBI_IO_BITFLIPS
(in response to an MTD -EUCLEAN) then ubi_eba_copy_leb returns 1 to
wear_leveling worker, which then proceeds to schedule the destination
PEB for erasure. This leads to erase_worker running on the PEB, and
following a successful erase wear_leveling_worker is called which
begins this whole cycle all over again. The end result is that (without
UBI debug output enabled) the boot appears to simply hang whilst in
reality U-boot busily works away at destroying a block of the NAND
flash. Debug output from this situation:

This patch adopts the interface change as in Linux commit edbc4540 in
order to avoid such situations. Given that none of the drivers under
drivers/mtd return -EUCLEAN, this should only affect those using
software ECC. I have tested that it works on a board which is
currently out of tree, but which I hope to be able to begin
upstreaming soon.

gcc allows extensions to be non compiler specific by defining
__* macros for the attributes supported by gcc. Having a
different definition causes many warnings during the build
(cdefs.h on FreeBSD uses __attribute((__pure__)) where u-boot
uses __attribute__((pure)) for example). Do not redefine
these macros to suppress these warnings.
This patch ignores the checkpatch warning:

Since kernel code current use many dev_xxx() instead of using printk. To
compatible, move those dev_xxx from usb driver to linux/compat.h. Then all

This patch is essentially an update of u-boot MTD subsystem to
the state of Linux-3.7.1 with exclusion of some bits:
- the update is concentrated on NAND, no onenand or CFI/NOR/SPI
flashes interfaces are updated EXCEPT for API changes.
- new large NAND chips support is there, though some updates
have got in Linux-3.8.-rc1, (which will follow on top of this patch).
To produce this update I used tag v3.7.1 of linux-stable repository.
The update was made using application of relevant patches,
with changes relevant to U-Boot-only stuff sticked together
to keep bisectability. Then all changes were grouped together
to this patch.

This patch adds a driver for the diskonchip G4 nand flash device. It is based
on the driver from the linux kernel.
This also includes a separate SPL driver. A separate SPL driver is used because
the device operates in a different mode (reliable mode) when loading a boot
image, and also because the storage format of the boot image is different from
normal data (pages are stored redundantly). The SPL driver basically mimics how
a typical IPL reads data from the device. The special operating mode and
storage format are used to compensate for the fact that the IPL does not contain
the BCH ecc decoding algorithm (due to size constraints). Although the u-boot
SPL *could* use ecc, it operates like an IPL for the sake of simplicity and
uniformity, since the IPL and SPL share the task of loading the u-boot image.
As a side benefit, the SPL driver is very small.

This patch adds the bitrev library from the linux kernel. This is a simple
algorithm that uses an 8 bit look-up table to reverse the bits in data types of
8, 16, or 32 bit widths. The docg4 nand flash driver uses it.

'bool' is defined in random places. This patch consolidates them into a
single header file include/linux/types.h, using stdbool.h introduced in C99.
All other #define, typedef and enum are removed. They are all consistent with
true = 1, false = 0.
Replace FALSE, False with false. Replace TRUE, True with true.
Skip *.py, *.php, lib/* files.

isspace() and strim() are not in the typical user-mode string.h, so
put them in a separate compilation unit so that they can be built into
tools that need them independent of the other common string functions.
This allows code shared by u-boot and the linux user-mode tools to link.

strncasecmp() is present as strnicmp() but disabled. Make it available
and define strcasecmp() also. There is a only a small performance penalty
to having strcasecmp() call strncasecmp(), so do this instead of a
standalone function, to save code space.
Update the prototype in arch-specific headers as needed to avoid warnings.

Existing U-Boot musb driver has no support for the new gadget framework
and also seems to have other limitations. As gadget framework is ported
from Linux it seems pretty natural to port musb gadget driver as well.
This driver supports both host and peripheral modes.
This is not a replacement for current musb driver (at least now) as
there are still some consumers of the old UDC interface.
No DMA operation support included, CONFIG_MUSB_PIO_ONLY should be
defined.
Virtual root hub device is not implemented.
Known problems: with no devices connected usb_lowlevel_start() fails.

u-boot's byteorder headers did not contain endianness attributions
for use with sparse, causing a lot of false positives. Import the
kernel's latest definitions, and enable them by including compiler.h
and types.h. They come with 'const' added for some swab functions, so
fix those up, too:

mtd: nand: allow NAND_NO_SUBPAGE_WRITE to be set from driver
The NAND_CHIPOPTIONS_MSK has limited utility and is causing real bugs. It
silently masks off at least one flag that might be set by the driver
(NAND_NO_SUBPAGE_WRITE). This breaks the GPMI NAND driver and possibly
others.
Really, as long as driver writers exercise a small amount of care with
NAND_* options, this mask is not necessary at all; it was only here to
prevent certain options from accidentally being set by the driver. But the
original thought turns out to be a bad idea occasionally. Thus, kill it.
Note, this patch fixes some major gpmi-nand breakage.

SMI is the serial memory interface controller provided by ST.
Earlier, a driver exists in the u-boot source code for the SMI IP. However, it
was specific to spear platforms. This commit converts the same driver to a more
generic driver. As a result, the driver files are renamed to st_smi.c and
st_smi.h and moved into drivers/mtd folder for reusability by other platforms
using smi controller peripheral.

Flexible static memory controller is a peripheral provided by ST,
which controls the access to NAND chips along with many other
memory device chips eg NOR, SRAM.

Merge our duplicate definitions with the common header.
Also fix drivers/usb/gadget/s3c_udc_otg_xfer_dma.c to
use min() instead of min_t() since we remove the latter
from compat.h.
Additionally use memalign() directly as the lin_gadget
specific kmalloc() macro is removed from lin_gadget_compat.h
by this patch.

This replacement causes 4KB page size devices to work properly with u-boot.
The old ONENAND_IS_MLC() behavior has been preserved by explicit
setting of ONENAND_HAS_4KB_PAGE for those devices.
This change makes the onenand_base.c file more resembling the respective
kernel sources.

Existing ctype checks are implemented using a 256 byte lookup table,
allowing each character to be in any of 8 character classes. Since there
are 8 existing character classes without the blank class, I implemented
isblank without using the lookup table. Since there are only two blank
characters - tab and space - this is a more reasonable approach than
doubling the size of the lookup table to accommodate one more class.

gen10g_startup() had 2 bugs:
1) It had a boolean logic error in checking the MMD mask, and
always checked all of them.
2) It checked devices which don't actually report link state, which
meant that it would never believe the link was fully up.
Fix the boolean logic, and then mask the MMD mask so only link-reporting
devices are checked.

Extends the mii_dev structure to participate in a full-blown MDIO and
PHY driver scheme. The mii_dev structure and miiphy calls are modified
in such a way to allow the original mii command and miiphy
infrastructure to work as before, but also to support a new set of APIs
which allow (among other things) sharing of PHY driver code and 10G support
The mii command will continue to support normal PHY management functions
(Clause 22 of 802.3), but will not be changed to support 10G
(Clause 45).
The basic design is similar to PHY Lib from Linux, but simplified for
U-Boot's network and driver infrastructure.
We now have MDIO drivers and PHY drivers
An MDIO driver provides:
read
write
reset
A PHY driver provides:
(optionally): probe
config - initial setup, starting of auto-negotiation
startup - waiting for AN, and reading link state
shutdown - any cleanup needed
The ethernet drivers interact with the PHY Lib using these functions:
phy_connect()
phy_config()
phy_startup()
phy_shutdown()
Each PHY driver can be configured separately, or all at once using
config_phylib_all_drivers.h (added in the patch which adds the drivers)
We also provide generic drivers for Clause 22 (10/100/1000), and
Clause 45 (10G) PHYs.
We also implement phy_reset(), and call it in phy_connect(). Because
phy_reset() is essentially the same as miiphy_reset, but:
a) must support 10G PHYs, and
b) should use the phylib primitives,
we implement miiphy_reset, using phy_reset(), but only when
CONFIG_PHYLIB is set. Otherwise, we just use the old version. In this
way, we save on compile size, even if we don't manage to save code size.

This patch adds support for reading an ONFI page parameter from a NAND
device supporting it. If this is the case, struct nand_chip onfi_version
member contains the supported ONFI version, 0 otherwise.
This allows NAND drivers past nand_scan_ident to set the best timings for the
NAND chip.

A recurrent issue is that certain C level constructs like sizeof() or
offsetof() cannot be used in assembler files, which is inconvenient
when such constructs are used in the definition of macro names etc.
To avoid duplication of such definitions (and thus another cause of
problems), we adapt the Linux way to automatically generate the
respective definitions from the respective C header files.
In Linux, this is implemented in include/linux/kbuild.h, Kbuild, and
arch/*/kernel/asm-offsets.c; we adapt the code from the Linux v2.6.36
kernel tree.
We also copy the concept of the include/generated/ directory which can
be used to hold other automatically generated files as well.
We start with an architecture-independent lib/asm-offsets.c which
generates include/generated/generic-asm-offsets.h (included by
include/asm-offsets.h, which is what will be referred to in the actual
source code). Later this may be extended by architecture-specific
arch/*/lib/asm-offsets.c files that will generate a
include/generated/asm-offsets.h.

The logic to 'spread' mtd partitions needs to calculate the length in
the mtd device, including bad blocks.
This patch introduces a new function, mtd_get_len_incl_bad that can
return both the length including bad blocks and whether that length
was truncated on the device. This new function will be used by the
mtdparts spread command later in this series. The definition of the
function is #ifdef'd out in configurations that do not use the new
'mtdparts spread' command.

Get rid of the several "#if 0" sections that were keeping around Linux
code that isn't relevant to U-Boot. Besides cluttering the code, these
sections make tracking upstream changes harder, rather than easier.
It's easy to discard obviously irrelevant diff hunks that patch rejects,
but it's not as easy to notice hunks that apply cleanly to the #if 0
section, but *are* relevant to U-Boot and require modification elsewhere.
Also remove suspend/resume, as this is not applicable to U-Boot. Removal
saves 232 bytes on powerpc.

Add lzop decompression support to the existing lzo bitstream handling
(think gzip versus zlib), and support it for uImage decompression if
CONFIG_LZO is enabled.
Lzop doesn't compress as good as gzip (~10% worse), but decompression
is very fast (~0.7s faster here on a slow ppc). The lzop decompression
code is based on Albin Tonnerre's recent ARM Linux lzo support patch.

The asm-arm/unaligned.h includes linux/unaligned/access_ok.h
This file is unsafe to be used on ARM, since it does an unaligned memory
accesses which fails on ARM.
Lookin at Linux the basic difference seems to be the header
"include/asm-arm/unaligned.h". The Linux version of "unaligned.h"
does *not* include "access_ok.h" at all. It includes "le_byteshift.h"
and "be_byteshift.h" instead.

UBIFS requires fls(), which is not defined for arm (and some other
architectures) and this patch adds it. The implementation is taken from
Linux and is generic. ffs() is also defined for those that miss it.

__set_bit and __clear_bit are defined in ubifs.h as well as in
asm/include/bitops.h for some architectures. This patch moves

This patch adds the new mode NAND_ECC_HW_OOB_FIRST in the nand code to
support 4-bit ECC on TI DaVinci devices with large page (up to 2K) NAND
chips. This ECC mode is similar to NAND_ECC_HW, with the exception of
read_page API that first reads the OOB area, reads the data in chunks,
feeds the ECC from OOB area to the ECC hw engine and perform any
correction on the data as per the ECC status reported by the engine.

This patch adds a new "page" parameter to all NAND read_page/read_page_raw
APIs. The read_page API for the new mode ECC_HW_OOB_FIRST requires the
page information to send the READOOB command and read the OOB area before
the data area.

Legacy NAND had been scheduled for removal. Any boards that use this
were already not building in the previous release due to an #error.
The disk on chip code in common/cmd_doc.c relies on legacy NAND,
and it has also been removed. There is newer disk on chip code
in drivers/mtd/nand; someone with access to hardware and sufficient
time and motivation can try to get that working, but for now disk
on chip is not supported.

This patch adds concatenation support to the U-Boot MTD infrastructure.
By enabling CONFIG_MTD_CONCAT this MTD CFI wrapper will concatenate
all found NOR devices into one single MTD device. This can be used by
e.g by UBI to access a partition that spans over multiple NOR chips.

The NAND flash on the TQM8548_BE modules requires a short delay after
running the UPM pattern like the MPC8360ERDK board does. The TQM8548_BE
requires a further short delay after writing out a buffer. Normally the
R/B pin should be checked, but it's not connected on the TQM8548_BE.
The corresponding Linux FSL UPM driver uses similar delay points at the
same locations. To manage these extra delays in a more general way, I
introduced the "wait_flags" field allowing the board-specific driver to
specify various types of extra delay.

used. It uses dedicated address lines to be set via UPM machine address
register (mar). This patch adds such support to the FSL-UPM driver.

This patch adds support for multi-chip NAND devices to the FSL-UPM
driver. The "dev_ready" callback of the "struct fsl_upm_nand" is now
called with the argument "chip_nr" to allow testing the proper chip
select line. The NAND support of the MPC8360ERDK is updated as well.
No other boards are currently using the FSL UPM driver.

The U-Boot UBIFS implementation is largely a direct copy from the current
Linux version (2.6.29-rc6). As already done in the UBI version we have an
"abstraction layer" to redefine or remove some OS calls (e.g. mutex_lock()
...). This makes it possible to use the original Linux code with very
little changes. And by this we can better update to later Linux versions.
I removed some of the Linux features that are not used in the U-Boot
version (e.g. garbage-collection, write support).

This patch adds LZO decompression support to U-Boot. It is needed for
the upcoming UBIFS support, since UBIFS uses LZO as default compressor/
decompressor. Since we only support read-only in UBIFS, only the
decompressor is needed.
All this is copied with minor changes from the current Linux kernel
version (2.6.28-rc8).
This patch only implements this LZO decompressor support for PPC.
Other platforms using UBIFS will have to add the required
"include/asm/unaligned.h" as well. It should be fairly easy to copy this
from the Linux source tree as I have done it for PPC in this patch.

This patch renames NAND_MAX_CHIPS to CONFIG_SYS_NAND_MAX_CHIPS and
changes the default from 8 to 1 for the legacy and the new MTD
NAND layer. This allows to remove all NAND_MAX_CHIPS definitions
in the board config files because none of the boards use multi
chip support (NAND_MAX_CHIPS > 1) so far. The bamboo and the DU440
define
#define NAND_MAX_CHIPS CONFIG_SYS_MAX_NAND_DEVICE
but that's bogus and did not work anyhow.

This has been missing and without it UBI has some incompatibilies issues
with the current (>= 2.6.27) Linux kernel version. vid_hdr_offset is
placed differently (2048 instead of 512) without this fix.

This patch adds basic UBI (Unsorted Block Image) support to U-Boot.
It's based on the Linux UBI version and basically has a "OS"
translation wrapper that defines most Linux specific calls
(spin_lock() etc.) into no-ops. Some source code parts have been
uncommented by "#ifdef UBI_LINUX". This makes it easier to compare
this version with the Linux version and simplifies future UBI
ports/bug-fixes from the Linux version.

This removes in nand.h code that is verbatim duplicated from bbm.h,
including directly bbm.h in nand.h. The previous state of affairs
prevented compiling code for a board hosting both NAND and OneNAND chips.

This brings the core NAND code up to date with the Linux kernel.
Since there were several drivers in Linux as of the last update that are
not in u-boot, I'm not bringing over new drivers that have been added
since in the absence of an interested party.
I did not update OneNAND since it was recently synced by Kyungmin Park,
and I'm not sure exactly what the common ancestor is.

Rather than scanning on boot, scan upon the first attempt to check the
badness of a block. This speeds up boot when not using NAND, and reduces
the likelihood of needing to reflash via JTAG if NAND becomes
nonfunctional.

A lot changed in the Linux MTD code, since it was last ported from
Linux to U-Boot. This patch takes U-Boot NAND support to the level
of Linux 2.6.22.1 and will enable support for very large NAND devices
(4KB pages) and ease the compatibility between U-Boot and Linux
filesystems.
This patch is tested on two custom boards with PPC and ARM
processors running YAFFS in U-Boot and Linux using gcc-4.1.2
cross compilers.
MAKEALL ppc/arm has some issues:
* DOC/OneNand/nand_spl is not building (I have not tried porting
these parts, and since I do not have any HW and I am not familiar
with this code/HW I think its best left to someone else.)
Except for the issues mentioned above, I have ported all drivers
necessary to run MAKEALL ppc/arm without errors and warnings. Many
drivers were trivial to port, but some were not so trivial. The
following drivers must be examined carefully and maybe rewritten to
some degree:
