Add some missing command enumerations from the ATA-8 ACS-3 spec into
include/linux/ata.h, and add the corresponding human-readable command
descriptions in libata-eh.c.

The original code used the wrong parameter to clear tx_atten[]. It
passed the number of elements instead of sizeof() the array to memset.
The other potential issue was that cphy_base[] wasn't cleared. I'm not
sure if that was a real problem or not, but I have cleared it in my
patch.
Instead of using memset(), this patch uses empty initializers as a
cleanup.

The reason is that current detection code doesn't follow AHCI spec:

Previously, we wanted SCSI devices corrsponding to ATA devices to
be runtime resumed when the power resource for those ATA device was
turned on by some other device, so we added the SCSI device to the
dependent device list of the ATA device's ACPI node. However, this
code has no effect after commit 41863fc (ACPI / power: Drop automaitc
resume of power resource dependent devices) and the mechanism it was
supposed to implement is regarded as a bad idea now, so drop it.

If EM Transmit bit is busy during init ata_msleep() is called. It is
wrong - msleep() should be used instead of ata_msleep(), because if EM
Transmit bit is busy for one port, it will be busy for all other ports
too, so using ata_msleep() causes wasting tries for another ports.
The most common scenario looks like that now
(six ports try to transmit a LED meaasege):
- port #0 tries for the 1st time and succeeds
- ports #1-5 try for the 1st time and sleeps
- port #1 tries for the 2nd time and succeeds
- ports #2-5 try for the 2nd time and sleeps
- port #2 tries for the 3rd time and succeeds
- ports #3-5 try for the 3rd time and sleeps
- port #3 tries for the 4th time and succeeds
- ports #4-5 try for the 4th time and sleeps
- port #4 tries for the 5th time and succeeds
- port #5 tries for the 5th time and sleeps
At this moment port #5 wasted all its five tries and failed to
initialize. Because there are only 5 (EM_MAX_RETRY) tries available
usually only five ports succeed to initialize. The sixth port and next
ones usually will fail.
If msleep() is used instead of ata_msleep() the first port succeeds to
initialize in the first try and next ones usually succeed to
initialize in the second try.

In order to save power consumption as much as possible.
* Disable sata phy internal pll reference clock when sysetem enter
into suspend mode, enable it after resume.
* Setup module parameter used to enable imx ahci test power down
mode(PDDQ) or not, when there is no device detected on the port
* minor modifications:
- The format of the copyright is changed, because that the original
one can't pass fsl internal patch reivew without the character
'(c)'.
- Exports ahci_platform_ops and ahci_error_handler().
NOTE:
* The hot-plug can't be supported when PDDQ mode is ever enabled.
* module parameter usage how-to:
- default: enable PDDQ mode when no device detected.
- add "ahci-imx.hotplug=1" into kernel command line if your don't
want to enable PDDQ mode when no device detected on the port.

libata EH decrements scmd->retries when the command failed for reasons
unrelated to the command itself so that, for example, commands aborted
due to suspend / resume cycle don't get penalized; however,
decrementing scmd->retries isn't enough for ATA passthrough commands.
Without this fix, ATA passthrough commands are not resend to the
drive, and no error is signalled to the caller because:
- allowed retry count is 1
- ata_eh_qc_complete fill the sense data, so result is valid
- sense data is filled with untouched ATA registers.

The test for 2nd I/O port validity is broken (reversed): On devices
with no control port, the driver attempts to use invalid port 0,
resulting in logs full of bad_io_access errors. On devices with
control port, the driver does not use it.

The ata_dev_acpi_handle is defined in libata-acpi.c and the only
external user is libata-zpodd.c, which is built when CONFIG_ATA_ACPI
is set, so there is no need to make an empty stub function for
ONFIG_ATA_ACPI case in libata.h. It also causes compile errors due to
acpi_handle is not defined when !CONFIG_ACPI. This patch fixes this
problem by removing the empty stub.

Binding ACPI handle to SCSI device has several drawbacks, namely:
1 During ATA device initialization time, ACPI handle will be needed
while SCSI devices are not created yet. So each time ACPI handle is
needed, instead of retrieving the handle by ACPI_HANDLE macro,
a namespace scan is performed to find the handle for the corresponding
ATA device. This is inefficient, and also expose a restriction on
calling path not holding any lock.
2 The binding to SCSI device tree makes code complex, while at the same
time doesn't bring us any benefit. All ACPI handlings are still done
in ATA module, not in SCSI.
Rework the ATA ACPI binding code to bind ACPI handle to ATA transport
devices(ATA port and ATA device). The binding needs to be done only once,
since the ATA transport devices do not go away with hotplug. And due to
this, the flush_work call in hotplug handler for ATA bay is no longer
needed.
Tested on an Intel test platform for binding and runtime power off for
ODD(ZPODD) and hard disk; on an ASUS S400C for binding and normal boot
and S3, where its SATA port node has _SDD and _GTF control methods when
configured as an AHCI controller and its PATA device node has _GTF
control method when configured as an IDE controller. SATA PMP binding
and ATA hotplug is not tested.

to it the same quirks applied to the Silicon Image 3726. Specifically
fixes the repeated timeout/reset process which previously afflicted

Some SGPIO PICs don't follow the standard very well and expect a certain
number of clock cycles or port frames in each SGPIO pattern. Add two
optional parameters in the DTB that can provide the number of extra
clock cycles to be sent before and after SGPIO pattern. Read those
parameters from the DTB and send the extra clock cycles.

Some board designs do not drive the SATA transmit lines within the
specification. The ECME can provide override settings, on a per board
basis, to bring the transmit lines within spec. Read those settings
from the DTB and program them in.
At the time of submission, no production hardware requires this patch.

platform_get_resource when the value is passed to devm_ioremap_resource.
Move the call to platform_get_resource adjacent to the call to
devm_ioremap_resource to make the connection between them more clear.

The ACTIVITY and ERROR signals were reversed in the original commit.
Fix that so that hard drive activity does not show up on the error
light, and attempts to indicate that the hard drive is failing do
not show up as hard drive activity. This fixes a fairly serious
functional bug in the driver, but failing to apply this patch will
not cause any stability issues on the system.

If CONFIG_HAVE_CLK is not selected, then all the clk API turn out
into no-ops. In other words, there's no need to have the ifdefs.
The only side-effect of this patch is the extra tiny kmalloc,
but that's not enough reason to have such ugly ifdefs all around
the code.

clarity. Modify them all to use ACPI_STATE_D3_COLD as appropriate.

imx6q contains one Synopsys AHCI SATA controller, But it can't share
ahci_platform driver with other controllers because there are some
misalignments of the generic AHCI controller - the bits definitions of
the HBA registers, the Vendor Specific registers, the AHCI PHY clock
and the AHCI signals adjustment window(GPR13 register).
- CAP_SSS(bit20) of the HOST_CAP is writable, default value is '0',
should be configured to be '1'
- bit0 (only one AHCI SATA port on imx6q) of the HOST_PORTS_IMPL
should be set to be '1'.(default 0)
- One Vendor Specific register HOST_TIMER1MS(offset:0xe0) should be
configured regarding to the frequency of AHB bus clock.
- Configurations of the AHCI PHY clock, and the signal parameters of
the GPR13
Setup its own ahci sata driver, contained the imx6q specific
initialized codes, re-use the generic ahci_platform driver, and keep
the generic ahci_platform driver clean as much as possible.

host with dummy ports. For ahci ports, when the port is dummy port, its

sata_inic162x never reached a state where it's reliable enough for
production use and data corruption is a relatively common occurrence.
Make the driver generate warning about the issues and mark the Kconfig
option as experimental.
If the situation doesn't improve, we'd be better off making it depend
on CONFIG_BROKEN. Let's wait for several cycles and see if the kernel
message draws any attention.

There is a patch b55f84e2d5 "ata_piix: Fix DVD
not dectected at some Haswell platforms" to fix an issue of DVD not
recognized on Haswell Desktop platform with Lynx Point.
Recently, it is also found the same issue at some platformas with Wellsburg PCH.
So deliver a similar patch to fix it by disables 32bit PIO in IDE mode.

libata/for-3.10-fixes never got submitted during v3.10 cycle. Merge
it into for-3.11 so that it can be routed together with other changes
scheduled for v3.11.
Three trivial conflicts in drivers/ata/sata_rcar.c. All are caused by
1b20f6a9ad ("sata_rcar: add 'base' local variable to some functions")
conflicting with logic updates in for-3.10-fixes. The offending
commit simply adds local variable @base on functions which
dereferences sata_rcar_priv->base multiple times. The resolutions are
trivial - applying s/priv->base/base/ in the conflicting logic
updates.

Commit 30dcf76acc "libata: migrate ACPI code over to new bindings"
mistakenly dropped the code to register hotplug notificaion handler
for ATA port/devices, causing regression for people using ATA bay,
as kernel bug #59871 shows.
Fix this by adding back the hotplug notification handler registration
code. Since this code has to be run once and notification needs to
be installed on every ATA port/devices handle no matter if there is
actual device attached, we can't do this in binding time for ATA
device ACPI handle, as the binding only occurs when a SCSI device is
created, i.e. there is device attached. So introduce the
ata_acpi_hotplug_init() function to loop scan all ATA ACPI handles
and if it is available, install the notificaion handler for it during
ATA init time.
With the ATA ACPI handle binding to SCSI device tree, it is possible
now that when the SCSI hotplug work removes the SCSI device, the ACPI
unbind function will find that the corresponding ACPI device has
already been deleted by dock driver, causing a scaring message like:

Fix this by waiting for SCSI hotplug task finish in our notificaion
handler, so that the removal of ACPI device done in ACPI unbind
function triggered by the removal of SCSI device is run earlier when

There are some SATA controllers which have both devices 0 and 1 but this module
just zeroes out taskfile and sets then ATA_TFLAG_DEVICE (not sure that's needed)
which could lead to a wrong device being selected just before issuing command.
Thus we should call ata_tf_init() which sets up the device register value
properly, like all other users of ata_exec_internal() do...

For some reason, a lot of port-multipliers have issues with softreset.
SIMG [34]7x series port-multipliers have been quite erratic in this
regard. I recall that it was better with some firmware revisions and
the current list of quirks worked fine for a while. I think it got
worse with later firmwares or maybe my test coverage wasn't good
enough. Anyways, HPA is reporting that his 3726 setup suffers SRST
failures and then the PMP gets confused and fails to probe the last
port.
The hope was that we try to stick to the standard as much as possible
and soonish the PMPs and their firmwares will improve in quality, so
the quirk list was kept to minimum. Well, it seems like that's never
gonna happen.
Let's set NO_SRST for all [34]7x PMPs so that whatever remaining
userbase of the device suffer the least. Maybe we should do the same
for 57xx's but unfortunately I don't have any device left to test and
I'm not even sure 57xx's have ever been made widely available, so
let's leave those alone for now.

The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0. If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.
Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.
To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

The driver's interrupt handling code is too picky in deciding whether it should
handle an interrupt or not which causes completely unneeded spurious interrupts.
Thus make sata_rcar_{ata|serr}_interrupt() *void*; add ATA status register read
to sata_rcar_ata_interrupt() to clear an unexpected ATA interrupt -- it doesn't
get cleared by writing to the SATAINTSTAT register in the interrupt mode we use.
Also, in sata_rcar_ata_interrupt() we should check SATAINTSTAT register only for
enabled interrupts and we should clear only those interrupts that we have read
as active first time around, because else we have a race and risk clearing an
interrupt that can occur between read and write of the SATAINTSTAT register
and never registering it...

Using ATA_BMDMA_SHT() to intialize 'sata_rcar_sht' was suboptimal as
the R-Car descriptor table transfer counter is 28 bits wide (bit 1 to
bit 28), so that the 'dma_boundary' field of 0xFFFF is just too small,
as well as the 'sg_tablesize' field of 128. Use ATA_BASE_SHT() to
initialize 'sata_rcar_sht' instead and give proper values to the
'dma_boundary' and 'sg_tablesize' fields explicitly.

I've modified sata_rcar_bmdma_fill_sg() to take care of splitting long
scatter/ gather segments due to the descriptor table transfer counter
being only 28 bits wide (bit 1 to bit 28) but that was in vain as even
if 'sata_rcar_sht' specified a correct 'dma_boundary' field, the DMA
and block layers would have split the S/G segments on the necassary
boundaries. Since the driver uses ATA_BMDMA_SHT() to initilaize
'sata_rcar_sht', the boundary is much smaller, only 0xFFFF, so the
code I've added is even more useless, and it's better to just remove
it.

platform_device instead of using dev_{get,set}_drvdata() with &pdev->dev,
so we can directly pass a struct platform_device.
Also, unnecessary dev_set_drvdata() is removed, because the driver core
clears the driver data to NULL after device_release or on probe failure.

Iff bmdma_setup() has to stop a DMA transfer before starting a new
one, then the STOP bit in the ATAPI_CONTROL1 register will remain set
(it's only cleared when setting the START bit to 1) and then
bmdma_start() method will set both START and STOP bits simultaneously
which should abort the transfer being just started. Avoid that by
explicitly clearing the STOP bit in bmdma_start() method (in this case
it will be ignored on write).

Some device require DMADIR to be enabled, but are not detected as such
by atapi_id_dmadir. One such example is "Asus Serillel 2"
SATA-host-to-PATA-device bridge: the bridge itself requires DMADIR,
even if the bridged device does not.
As atapi_dmadir module parameter can cause problems with some devices
(as per Tejun Heo's memory), enabling it globally may not be possible
depending on the hardware.
This patch adds atapi_dmadir in the form of a "force" horkage value,
allowing global, per-bus and per-device control.

While registering host controller track port number based upon number
of ports available on the controller, export port_no attribute through
/sys. This patch is needed by udev for composing persistent links in

This patch restores libata.noacpi support to libata-acpi.c.
There are broken optional control methods for ATA controller devices in the
real world. The libata.noacpi has been used for a long time as a

This patch disables ATA_ACPI support at runtime by stopping acpi binding

with or without "libata.noacpi=1" kernel command line argument.

Since commit 30dcf76acc, ata_ap_acpi_handle will always do a namespace
walk, which requires acquiring an acpi namespace mutex. This made it
impossible to be used when calling path has held a spinlock.
For example, it can occur in the following code path for pata_acpi:

This caused scheduling while atomic bug, as reported in bug #56781.
Actually, ata_ap_acpi_handle doesn't have to walk the namespace every
time it is called, it can simply return the bound acpi handle on the
corresponding SCSI host. The reason previously it is not done this way
is, ata_ap_acpi_handle is used in the binding function
ata_acpi_bind_host by ata_acpi_gtm when the handle is not bound to the
SCSI host yet. Since we already have the ATA port's handle in its
binding function, we can simply use it instead of calling
ata_ap_acpi_handle there. So introduce a new function __ata_acpi_gtm,
where it will receive an acpi handle param in addition to the ATA port
which is solely used for debug statement. With this change, we can make
ata_ap_acpi_handle simply return the bound handle for SCSI host instead
of walking the acpi namespace now.

This is a series originally prepared for inclusion in 3.9, which did
not work out because of dependencies on the dmaengine driver. All the
changes for the dmaengine code are merged in 3.9 now, so we can finally
do the switchover and remove the now unnecessary dma definitions for
spear13xx from the platform code.
The dma platform_data actually made up the majority of the spear13xx
platform code overall, so moving that into device tree files makes the
code substantially smaller.

This adds a complete DT binding for the arasan device driver. There is
currently only one user, which is the spear13xx platform, so we don't
actually have to parse all the properties until another user comes in,
but this does use the generic DMA binding to find the DMA channel.
The patch is untested so far and is part of a series to convert
the spear platform over to use the generic DMA binding, so it
should stay with the rest of the series.

Support config RX WATER MARK via sysfs when running at run-time;
A wrokaround for fix the exception happened to some WD HDD, found on
WD3000HLFS-01G6U1, WD3000HLFS-01G6U0, some SSD disks. The read performance
is also regression (about 30%) when use default value.
According to the latest documents, 0x10 is the default value of RX WATER MARK,
but exception/performance issue happened to some disks mentioned above.

that are bound to or in the dependent list of this acpi device will be
runtime resumed. So there is no need for ata acpi code to duplicate this
effort, and thus, the ata_acpi_(un)register_power_resource functions are
no longer needed.
The above commit thinks the scsi device is not bound to the acpi device,
so needs to be added to the dependent list. But actually, it is. So
there is no need to add it to the dependent list, or it will be runtime
resumed twice(though this wouldn't cause any problem).
This patch fixes it, and as a result, the
ata_acpi_(un)register_power_resource and ata_acpi_(un)bind functions
are removed.

It seems that the SAM_STAT_CHECK_CONDITION is not cleared
causing -EIO, because that patch modified sensebuf and
the check for clearing SAM_STAT_CHECK_CONDITION is no longer valid.

We've hit a problem with DVD not recognized on Haswell Desktop platform which
includes Lynx Point 2-port SATA controller.
This quirk patch disables 32bit PIO on this controller in IDE mode.

ODD is not a common TLA for non-ATA people so they will get confused

After PCI and USB have stopped using the .find_bridge() callback in
struct acpi_bus_type, the only remaining user of it is SATA, but SATA
only pretends to be a user, because it points that callback to a stub
always returning -ENODEV.
For this reason, drop the SATA's dummy .find_bridge() callback and
remove .find_bridge(), which is not used any more, from struct
acpi_bus_type entirely.

USB uses the .find_bridge() callback from struct acpi_bus_type
incorrectly, because as a result of the way it is used by USB every
device in the system that doesn't have a bus type or parent is
passed to usb_acpi_find_device() for inspection.
What USB actually needs, though, is to call usb_acpi_find_device()
for USB ports that don't have a bus type defined, but have
usb_port_device_type as their device type, as well as for USB
devices.
To fix that replace the struct bus_type pointer in struct
acpi_bus_type used for matching devices to specific subsystems
with a .match() callback to be used for this purpose and update
the users of struct acpi_bus_type, including USB, accordingly.
Define the .match() callback routine for USB, usb_acpi_bus_match(),
in such a way that it will cover both USB devices and USB ports
and remove the now redundant .find_bridge() callback pointer from
usb_acpi_bus.

When the user application sends a ATA_12 or ATA_16 PASSTHROUGH
scsi command, put the task file register in the sense data with the

Please pull mpc5xxx patches for v3.9. The bestcomm driver is
moved to drivers/dma (so it will be usable for ColdFire).
mpc5121 now provides common dtsi file and existing mpc5121 device
trees use it. There are some minor clock init and sparse fixes
and updates for various 5200 device tree files from Grant. Some
fixes for bugs in the mpc5121 DIU driver are also included here
(Andrew Morton suggested to push them via my mpc5xxx tree).

When the ODD is powered off, any action the user did to the ODD that
would generate a media event will trigger an ACPI interrupt, so the
poll for media event is no longer necessary. And the poll will also
cause a runtime status change, which will stop the ODD from staying in
powered off state, so the poll should better be stopped.
But since we don't have access to the gendisk structure in LLDs, here
comes the disk_events_disable_depth for scsi device. This field is a
hint set by LLDs to convey information to upper layer drivers. A value
of 0 means media poll is necessary for the device, while values above 0
means media poll is not needed and should better be skipped. So we can
increase its value when we are to power off the ODD in ATA layer and
decrease its value when the ODD is powered on, effectively silence the
media events poll.

For system freeze, if the port is already runtime suspended, leave it
alone and just return. The port will be resumed on thaw before it will
be used.
And since we will call get_noresume for every device during prepare
phase, and the port is resumed during thaw phase, it can't be in runtime
suspended state during the poweroff phase. So remove the
runtime_suspended check in poweroff callback.
And for all suspend(freeze/suspend/poweroff/etc.), there is no need to
touch the device, so set no_autopsy and no_recovery for them all.

We need to do different things for system PM and runtime PM, e.g. we do
not need to enable runtime wake for ZPODD when we are doing system
suspend, etc.
Currently, we use PMSG_SUSPEND for both system suspend and runtime
suspend and PMSG_ON for both system resume and runtime resume. Change
this by using PMSG_AUTO_SUSPEND for runtime suspend and PMSG_AUTO_RESUME
for runtime resume. And since PMSG_ON means no transition, it is changed
to PMSG_RESUME for ata port's system resume.
The ata_acpi_set_state is modified accordingly, and the sata case and
pata case is seperated for easy reading.

Take advantage of multiple MSIs implementation on x86 - on
systems with IRQ remapping AHCI ports not only get assigned
separate MSI vectors - but also separate IRQs. As result,
interrupts generated by different ports could be serviced on
different CPUs rather than on a single one.
In cases when number of allocated MSIs is less than requested
the Sharing Last MSI mode does not get used, no matter
implemented in hardware or not. Instead, the driver assumes the
advantage of multiple MSIs is negated and falls back to the
single MSI mode as if MRSM bit was set (some Intel chips
implement this strategy anyway - MRSM bit gets set even if the
number of allocated MSIs exceeds the number of implemented ports).

For ODDs, the upper layer will poll for media change every few
seconds, which will make it enter and leave suspend state very
often. And as each suspend will also cause a hard/soft reset,
the gain of runtime suspend is very little while the ODD may
malfunction after constantly being reset. So the idle callback
here will not proceed to suspend if a non-ZPODD capable ODD is
attached to the port.

Expose pm qos flags to user space so that user has a chance to disable
ZPODD feature, if he/she has a broken platform or devices or simply does
not like this feature.
This flag is exposed to user space only for ZPODD devices.
Due to this flag, it is possible the ODD is ZP ready but we didn't power
it off. So the zp_ready flag will need to be cleared whenever we found
the ODD is not in ZP ready state. Previously, once zp_ready is set, the
ODD will always be powered off and the flag will be cleared in
post_poweron. But this is no longer the case now.

When ata port is runtime suspended, it will check if the ODD attched to
it is a zero power(ZP) capable ODD and if the ZP capable ODD is in zero
power ready state. And if this is not the case, the highest acpi state
will be limited to ACPI_STATE_D3_HOT to avoid powering off the ODD. And
if the ODD can be powered off, runtime wake capability needs to be
enabled and powered_off flag will be set to let resume code knows that
the ODD was in powered off state.
And on resume, before it is powered on, if it was powered off during
suspend, runtime wake capability needs to be disabled. After it is
recovered, the ODD is considered functional, post power on processing
like eject tray if the ODD is drawer type is done, and several ZPODD
related fields will also be reset.

Per the Mount Fuji spec, the ODD is considered zero power ready when:
- For slot type ODD, no media inside;
- For tray type ODD, no media inside and tray closed.
The information can be retrieved by either the returned information of
command GET_EVENT_STATUS_NOTIFICATION(the command is used to poll for
media event) or sense code.
The information provided by the media status byte is not accurate, it
is possible that after a new disc is just inserted, the status byte
still returns media not present. So this information can not be used as
the deciding factor, we use sense code to decide if zpready status is
true.
When we first sensed the ODD in the zero power ready state, the
zp_sampled will be set and timestamp will be recoreded. And after ODD
stayed in this state for some pre-defined period, the ODD is considered
as power off ready and the zp_ready flag will be set. The zp_ready flag
serves as the deciding factor other code will use to see if power off is
OK for the ODD.
The Mount Fuji spec suggests a delay should be used here, to avoid the
case user ejects the ODD and then instantly inserts a new one again, so
that we can avoid a power transition. And some ODDs may be slow to place
its head to the home position after disc is ejected, so a delay here is
generally a good idea. And the delay time can be changed via the module
param zpodd_poweroff_delay.
The zero power ready status check is performed in the ata port's runtime
suspend code path, when port is not frozen yet, as we need to issue some
IOs to the ODD.

Since the ata acpi notification code introduced in commit
3bd46600a7 is solely for ZPODD, and we
now have a dedicated place for it, move these code there.
And the ata_acpi_add_pm_notifier code is changed a little bit in that it
is now invoked when scsi device is not bound with ACPI yet, so the way
to get the acpi handle is different with the previous version. And the
ata_acpi_add/remove_pm_notifier is also simplified a little bit in that
it doesn't check if the acpi_device for the handle exists or not as the
odd_can_poweroff function already checked that.

The ODD can be enabled for ZPODD if the following three conditions are
satisfied:
1 The ODD supports device attention;
2 The platform can runtime power off the ODD through ACPI;
3 The ODD is either slot type or drawer type.
For such ODDs, zpodd_init is called and a new structure is allocated for
it to store ZPODD related stuffs.
And the zpodd_dev_enabled function is used to test if ZPODD is currently
enabled for this ODD.
A new config CONFIG_SATA_ZPODD is added to selectively build ZPODD code.

Commit 0090def6 (ACPI: Add interface to register/unregister device
to/from power resources) made it possible to indicate to the ACPI
core that if the given device depends on any power resources, then
it should be resumed as soon as all of the power resources required
by it to transition to the D0 power state have been turned on.
Unfortunately, however, this was a mistake, because all devices
depending on power resources should be treated this way (i.e. they
should be resumed when all power resources required by their D0
state have been turned on) and for the majority of those devices
the ACPI core can figure out by itself which (physical) devices
depend on what power resources.
For this reason, replace the code added by commit 0090def6 with a
new, much more straightforward, mechanism that will be used
internally by the ACPI core and remove all references to that code
from kernel subsystems using ACPI.
For the cases when there are (physical) devices that should be
resumed whenever a not directly related ACPI device node goes into
D0 as a result of power resources configuration changes, like in
the SATA case, add two new routines, acpi_dev_pm_add_dependent()
and acpi_dev_pm_remove_dependent(), allowing subsystems to manage
such dependencies. Convert the SATA subsystem to use the new
functions accordingly.

NCQ capability was used to check availability of SATA Settings page
from Identify Device Data Log, which contains DevSlp timing variables.
It does not work on some HDDs and leads to error messages.
IDENTIFY word 78 bit 5(Hardware Feature Control) can't work either
because it is only the sufficient condition of Identify Device data
log, not the necessary condition.
This patch replaced ata_device->sata_settings with ->devslp_timing
to only save DevSlp timing variables(8 bytes), instead of the whole
SATA Settings page(512 bytes).

CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev*
markings need to be removed.
This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata,
and __devexit from these drivers.
Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me
in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.

The bestcomm dma hardware, and some of its users like the FEC ethernet
component, is used in different FreeScale parts, including non-powerpc
parts like the ColdFire MCF547x & MCF548x families. Don't keep the
driver hidden in arch/powerpc where it is inaccessible for other arches.
.c files are moved to drivers/dma/bestcomm, while .h files are moved to
include/linux/fsl/bestcomm. Makefiles, Kconfigs and #include directives
are updated for the new file locations.
Tested by recompiling for MPC5200 with all bestcomm users enabled.

A NACK is probably the right thing. I was mostly converting a few
other drivers which used some simple, common patterns to use my new
common code, but this driver was missing it altogether. It looks like
there may be bigger issues, though, as you point out.

As noted earlier, I don't have much interest in this driver. I agree
that there are some other issues with the driver; I think it leaks
memory if it is ever allowed to unload, for one. Feel free to submit
an alternative patch to prevent this driver from being built as a
module.

The patch needs to eliminate the definition of OCTEON_IRQ_BOOTDMA so
that the device tree code can map the interrupt, so in order to not
temporarily break things, we do a single patch to both the interrupt
registration code and the pata_octeon_cf driver.
Also rolled in is a conversion to use hrtimers and corrections to the
timing calculations.

AHCI platform devices may provide an exit() routine, via
ahci_platform_data, that powers off the SATA core. Such a routine should
be executed from the ata_port_operations host_stop() hook. That way, the
ATA subsystem can perform any last-minute hardware cleanup (via devres,
for example), then trigger the power-off at the appropriate time.
This patch fixes bus errors triggered during module removal or device
unbinding, seen on an SoC SATA core.

platform_driver_probe() should be used for registering this driver only
if we want to
"...remove its run-once probe() infrastructure from memory after the
driver has bound to the device."
However, we may want to leave the probe infrastructure in place in order
to support binding/unbinding a device dynamically. This is useful, for
instance, as a power management mechanism, where a device can be totally
powered down when unbound (whereas with runtime power management,
powering down the SATA core would incur unacceptable loss of
functionality).
Thus, convert this driver to use platform_driver_register().

ata_device->dma_mode's initial value is zero, which is not a valid dma
mode, but ata_dma_enabled will return true for this value. This patch
sets dma_mode to 0xff in reset function, so that ata_dma_enabled will
not return true for this case, or it will cause problem for pata_acpi.

NCQ capability was used to check availability of SATA Settings page
from Identify Device Data Log, which contains DevSlp timing variables.
It does not work on some HDDs and leads to error messages.
IDENTIFY word 78 bit 5(Hardware Feature Control) should be used.
Quoting SATA spec 3.1:
If Hardware Feature Control is supported, then:
a) IDENTIFY DEVICE data word 78 bit 5 (see 13.2.1.18) shall be
set to one;
b) the SET FEATURES Select Hardware Feature Control subcommand
shall be supported (see 13.3.8);

Commit 66fa7f215 "libata-acpi: improve ACPI disabling" introdcued the
behaviour of disabling ATA ACPI if ata_acpi_on_devcfg failed the 2nd
time, but commit 30dcf76ac dropped this behaviour and this caused
problem for Dimitris Damigos, where his laptop can not resume correctly.

The problem is, ata_dev_push_id will fail the 2nd time it is invoked,
and due to disabling ACPI code is dropped, ata_acpi_on_devcfg which
calls ata_dev_push_id will keep failing and eventually made the device
disabled.
This patch restores the original behaviour, if acpi failed the 2nd time,
disable acpi functionality for the device(and we do not event need to
add a debug message for this as it is still there ;-).

I am working on a device which uses the cs5536 pata driver. There
are some broken hardware revisions out in the field, which can be
detected via DMI. On older versions with an embedded BIOS I
used libata.dma=0 to disable dma completely.
Now we are switching to a coreboot/seabios based BIOS where we
have DMI support and so I think its a good idea to get rid of
all those hacky kernel parameters as the same image
is used other devices where libata.dma=0 is not a good idea.

An earlier commit cd006086fa ("ata_piix:
defer disks to the Hyper-V drivers by default") broke MS Virtual PC
guests. Hyper-V guests and Virtual PC guests have nearly identical DMI
info. As a result the driver does currently ignore the emulated hardware
in Virtual PC guests and defers the handling to hv_blkvsc. Since Virtual
PC does not offer paravirtualized drivers no disks will be found in the
guest.
One difference in the DMI info is the product version. This patch adds a
match for MS Virtual PC 2007 and "unignores" the emulated hardware.

sata_promise's pdc_hard_reset_port() needs to serialize because it
flips a port-specific bit in controller register that's shared by
all ports. The code takes the ata host lock for this, but that's
broken because an interrupt may arrive on our irq during the hard
reset sequence, and that too will take the ata host lock. With
lockdep enabled a big nasty warning is seen.
Fixed by adding private state to the ata host structure, containing
a second lock used only for serializing the hard reset sequences.
This eliminated the lockdep warnings both on my test rig and on
the original reporter's machine.

This is a set of four bug fixes. The isci one is an obvious thinko (using
request buffer instead of response buffer) which causes a command to fail.
The three others are DIF/DIX updates which are required because they're part
of a series of ten patches, the other seven of which went into the block layer
during the merge window meaning our current DIF/DIX implementation is broken
without these three.

The ahci_highbank_probe function is incorrectly marked as __init,
which means it can get discarded at boot time, which might be
a problem if for some reason the device only becomes operational
after loading another module.
Using __devinit instead avoids seeing this warning for every build:

case in ata_acpi_bind_device and will cause a NULL ptr dereference when
user attached a SATA drive to the PMP port. Fix this by checking PMP

Implement support for WRITE SAME(10) and WRITE SAME(16) in the SCSI disk
driver.
- We set the default maximum to 0xFFFF because there are several
devices out there that only support two-byte block counts even with
WRITE SAME(16). We only enable transfers bigger than 0xFFFF if the
device explicitly reports MAXIMUM WRITE SAME LENGTH in the BLOCK
LIMITS VPD.
- max_write_same_blocks can be overriden per-device basis in sysfs.
- The UNMAP discovery heuristics remain unchanged but the discard
limits are tweaked to match the "real" WRITE SAME commands.
- In the error handling logic we now distinguish between WRITE SAME
with and without UNMAP set.
The discovery process heuristics are:
- If the device reports a SCSI level of SPC-3 or greater we'll issue
READ SUPPORTED OPERATION CODES to find out whether WRITE SAME(16) is
supported. If that's the case we will use it.
- If the device supports the block limits VPD and reports a MAXIMUM
WRITE SAME LENGTH bigger than 0xFFFF we will use WRITE SAME(16).
- Otherwise we will use WRITE SAME(10) unless the target LBA is beyond
0xFFFFFFFF or the block count exceeds 0xFFFF.
- no_write_same is set for ATA, FireWire and USB.

The REPORT SUPPORTED OPERATION CODES command can be used to query
whether a given opcode is supported by a device. Add a helper function
that allows us to look up commands.
We only issue RSOC if the device reports compliance with SPC-3 or
later. But to err on the side of caution we disable the command for ATA,
FireWire and USB.

Since READ/WRITE FPDMA QUEUED commands are 48-bit, bit 6 of the device register
means LBA, the same as for READ/WRITE DMA EXT commands. So use ATA_LBA instead
of the bare number in ata_build_rw_tf()'s branch dedicated to the NCQ commands.

Calxeda highbank SATA phy has intermittent problems bringing up a link
with Gen3 drives. Retrying the phy hard reset can work-around this issue,
but each reset also disables spread spectrum support. The reset function
also needs to reprogram the phy to enable spread spectrum support.
Create a new driver based on ahci_platform to support the Calxeda Highbank
SATA controller.

The freescale V2 SATA controller checks if the received data length matches
the programmed length 'ttl', if not, it assumes that this is an error.
In ATAPI, the 'ttl' is based on max allocation length and not the actual
data transfer length, controller will raise 'DLM' (Data length Mismatch)
error bit in Hstatus register. Along with 'DLM', DE (Device error) and
FE (fatal Error) bits are also set in Hstatus register, 'E' (Internal Error)
bit is set in Serror register and CE (Command Error) and DE (Device error)
registers have the corresponding bit set. In this condition, we need to
clear errors in following way: in the service routine, based on 'DLM' flag,
HCONTROL[27] operation clears Hstatus, CE and DE registers, clear Serror
register.

Device Sleep is a feature as described in AHCI 1.3.1 Technical Proposal.
This feature enables an HBA and SATA storage device to enter the DevSleep
interface state, enabling lower power SATA-based systems.
Aggressive Device Sleep enables the HBA to assert the DEVSLP signal as
soon as there are no commands outstanding to the device and the port
specific Device Sleep idle timer has expired. This enables autonomous
entry into the DevSleep interface state without waiting for software
in power sensitive systems.
This patch enables Aggressive Device Sleep only if both host controller
and device support it.
Tested on AMD reference board together with Device Sleep supported device
sample.

The JMicron JMB362 controller supports AHCI only, but some revisions
use the IDE class code. These need to be matched by device ID.
These additions have apparently been included by QNAP in their NAS
devices using these controllers.

Reuse ata_port_{suspend|resume}_common for sas. This path is chosen
over adding coordination between ata-tranport and sas-transport because
libsas wants to revalidate the domain at resume-time at the host level.
It can not validate links have resumed properly until libata has had a
chance to perform its revalidation, and any sane placing of an ata_port
in the sas-transport model would delay it's resumption until after the
host.
Export the common portion of port suspend/resume (bypass pm_runtime),
and allow sas to perform these operations asynchronously (similar to the
libsas async-ata probe implmentation). Async operation is determined by
having an external, rather than stack based, location for storing the
result of the operation.

Hotplug testing with libsas currently encounters a 55 second wait for
link recovery to give up. In the case where the user trusts the
response time of their devices permit the recovery attempts to be
limited to one.

The cache_type file in sysfs lets users configure the disk cache in
write-through or write-back modes. However, ata disks do not support
writing to the file because they do not implement the MODE SELECT
command.
This patch adds a translation from MODE SELECT (for the caching page
only) to the ATA SET FEATURES command. The set of changeable parameters
answered by MODE SENSE is also adjusted accordingly.

Currently, SATA disk fua detection is disabled on default because most of
devices don't support this feature at that time. With the development of
technology, more and more SATA disks support this feature. So now we can enable
this detection on default.
Although fua detection is defined as a kernel module parameter, it is too hard
to set its value because it must be loaded and set before system starts up.
That needs to modify initrd file. So it is inconvenient for administrator who
needs to manage a huge number of servers.

I followed the advice to not use the deprecated old PATA subsystem
ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support (DEPRECATED) --->
and use the ATA subsystem instead.

Unfortunately I needed several tries to find out, that I needed the SFF
menu I had not selected before because I had never heard that term
before. I think it would have helped me, to have PATA or legacy IDE in
that item’s name.

Commit 30dcf76acc mistakenly dropped
the code to get an initial gtm for the IDE channel. This caused the
following problem for Sergei:

The mainboard MSI E350DM-E33 is advertised with 6 SATA ports.
As it turns out, two of them seem to be driven by on-board
SATA<->PATA converters. If a disk drive is connected to one

Two bits were appended to the end of the bitfield
list in struct scsi_device. Resolve that conflict
by including both bits.

Only channel 0 is currently support and the driver code is fixed on
channel 0. This patch lets device node specifying dma-channel in case
it is not 0. If no dma-channel property is specified, channel 0 is

The hardreset operation is currently not supported. This causes

IO_DATA_PATH_WIDTH_8 is 0, so a bit-and with it is always false. The
value IO_DATA_PATH_WIDTH covers the bits of the IO_DATA_PATH constants, so
first pick those bits and then make the test using !=.

Like e65cc194f7 (ahci: Enable SB600 64bit
DMA on MSI K9A2 Platinum) and 3c4aa91f21
(ahci: Enable SB600 64bit DMA on Asus M3A), this patch enables 64bit DMA
for the AHCI SATA controller of another board that has the SB600
southbridge.
In this case though we're enabling 64bit DMA for another MSI motherboard,
the K9AGM2 or MS-7327. It is new enough that all of the BIOS releases
since the initial release (1.0 from 2007-02-09) work correctly with 64bit
DMA enabled.

When using my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex eSATAp external disk enclosure,
interface errors are always seen until 1.5Gbps is negotiated [1]. This
occurs using any disk in the enclosure, and when the disk is connected
directly with a generic passive eSATAp cable, we see stable 3Gbps
operation as expected.
Blacklist 3Gbps mode to avoid dataloss and the ~30s delay bus reset
and renegotiation incurs.

When managing shost->host_eh_scheduled libata assumes that there is a
1:1 shost-to-ata_port relationship. libsas creates a 1:N relationship
so it needs to manage host_eh_scheduled cumulatively at the host level.
The sched_eh and end_eh port port ops allow libsas to track when domain
devices enter/leave the "eh-pending" state under ha->lock (previously
named ha->state_lock, but it is no longer just a lock for ha->state
changes).
Since host_eh_scheduled indicates eh without backing commands pinning
the device it can be deallocated at any time. Move the taking of the
domain_device reference under the port_lock to guarantee that the
ata_port stays around for the duration of eh.

A user has several systems with a couple of models of flash disks with IDE
connectors. These disks work fine in 2.6.18-ish kernels but corrupt data on
new kernels.
The difference appears to be with the default I/O method used by the IDE
controller driver between the kernels. In the older kernels, the
configuration is very conservative and the driver stays in PIO mode. With
new kernels, the ata driver (pata_serverworks) attempts to use UDMA/66
which the drive claims to support. This mode, however, does not appear to
work in DMA mode. The drive does work correctly and no corruption is
seen if the kernel parameter "libata.force=5:pio0,6:pio0" is used to force
the driver to use PIO instead of DMA mode.
Blacklist these drives. Unfortunately the model name of the drive is very
generic, " 2GB ATA Flash Disk", but the revision is specific, "ADMA428M".

ATA and SATA drives have had built-in retries for media errors
for as long as they've been commonplace in computers (early 1990s).
When libata stumbles across a bad sector, it can waste minutes
sitting there doing retry after retry before finally giving up
and letting the higher layers deal with it.
This patch removes retries for media errors only.

When we are hosted on a Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor the guest disks
are exposed both via the Hyper-V paravirtualised drivers and via an
emulated SATA disk drive. In this case we want to use the paravirtualised
drivers if we can as they are much more efficient. Note that the Hyper-V
paravirtualised drivers only expose the virtual hard disk devices, the
CDROM/DVD devices must still be enumerated.
Mark the host controller ATA_HOST_IGNORE_ATA to prevent enumeration of
disk devices.

Where devices are visible via more than one host we sometimes wish to
indicate that cirtain devices should be ignored on a specific host. Add a
host flag indicating that this host wishes to ignore ATA specific devices.

lead to an erroneous 3.0 Gbps -> 1.5 downshift, particularly when hotplug
and suspend/resume is involved.

SPEAr13xx series of SoCs contain Synopsys AHCI SATA Controller which shares
ahci_platform driver with other controller versions.

The change of numbering comes from commit 85d6725b7c ("libata:
make ata_print_id atomic") that changed lines like
ap->print_id = ata_print_id++;
to
ap->print_id = atomic_inc_return(&ata_print_id);
As the latter behaves like ++ata_print_id, we must initialize
it to zero to start the numbering from one.

once it was detected, but was missing an ahci_pci_tbl entry.
Boot tested on a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard.

Commit d902747("[libata] Add ATA transport class") introduced
ATA_EFLAG_OLD_ER to mark entries in the error ring as cleared.
But ata_count_probe_trials_cb() didn't check this flag and it still
counts the old error history. So wrong probe trials count is returned
and it causes problem, for example, SATA link speed is slowed down from
3.0Gbps to 1.5Gbps.
Fix it by checking ATA_EFLAG_OLD_ER in ata_count_probe_trials_cb().

This changes the ordering of initialization and probing events from:
1/ allocate rphy in PORTE_BYTES_DMAED, DISCE_REVALIDATE_DOMAIN
2/ allocate ata_port and schedule port probe in DISCE_PROBE
...to:
1/ allocate ata_port in PORTE_BYTES_DMAED, DISCE_REVALIDATE_DOMAIN
2/ allocate rphy in PORTE_BYTES_DMAED, DISCE_REVALIDATE_DOMAIN
3/ schedule port probe in DISCE_PROBE
This ordering prevents PHYE_SIGNAL_LOSS_EVENTS from sneaking in to
destrory ata devices before they have been fully initialized:

This variable is incremented from multiple contexts (module_init via
libata-lldds and the libsas discovery thread). Make it atomic to head
off any chance of libsas and libata creating duplicate ids.
