The problem arises because our read() function grabs a lock of the
circular buffer, finds something of interest, then invokes copy_to_user()
straight from the buffer, which in turn takes mm->mmap_sem. In the same
time, the callback mon_bin_vma_fault() is invoked under mm->mmap_sem.
It attempts to take the fetch lock and deadlocks.
This patch does away with protecting of our page list with any
semaphores, and instead relies on the kernel not close the device
while mmap is active in a process.
In addition, we prohibit re-sizing of a buffer while mmap is active.
This way, when (now unlocked) fault is processed, it works with the
page that is intended to be mapped-in, and not some other random page.
Note that this may have an ABI impact, but hopefully no legitimate
program is this wrong.

Explicitly initialize URB structure urb_list field in usb_init_urb().
This field can be potentially accessed uninitialized and its
initialization is coherent with the usage of list_del_init() in
usb_hcd_unlink_urb_from_ep() and usb_giveback_urb_bh() and its
explicit initialization in usb_hcd_submit_urb() error path.

Make sure that the interrupt interface has an endpoint before trying to
access its endpoint descriptors to avoid dereferencing a NULL pointer.
The driver binds to the interrupt interface with interface number 0, but
must not assume that this interface or its current alternate setting are
the first entries in the corresponding configuration arrays.

spin_unlock_irqrestore() might be called with stale flags after
reading port status, possibly restoring interrupts to a incorrect
state.
If a usb2 port just finished resuming while the port status is read
the spin lock will be temporary released and re-acquired in a separate
function. The flags parameter is passed as value instead of a pointer,
not updating flags properly before the final spin_unlock_irqrestore()
is called.

xhci driver claims it needs XHCI_TRUST_TX_LENGTH quirk for both
Broadcom/Cavium and a Renesas xHC controllers.
The quirk was inteded for handling false "success" complete event for
transfers that had data left untransferred.
These transfers should complete with "short packet" events instead.
In these two new cases the false "success" completion is reported
after a "short packet" if the TD consists of several TRBs.
xHCI specs 4.10.1.1.2 say remaining TRBs should report "short packet"
as well after the first short packet in a TD, but this issue seems so
common it doesn't make sense to add the quirk for all vendors.
Turn these events into short packets automatically instead.
This gets rid of the "The WARN Successful completion on short TX for
slot 1 ep 1: needs XHCI_TRUST_TX_LENGTH quirk" warning in many cases.

A race in xhci USB3 remote wake handling may force device back to suspend
after it initiated resume siganaling, causing a missed resume event or warm
reset of device.
When a USB3 link completes resume signaling and goes to enabled (UO)
state a interrupt is issued and the interrupt handler will clear the
bus_state->port_remote_wakeup resume flag, allowing bus suspend.
If the USB3 roothub thread just finished reading port status before
the interrupt, finding ports still in suspended (U3) state, but hasn't
yet started suspending the hub, then the xhci interrupt handler will clear
the flag that prevented roothub suspend and allow bus to suspend, forcing
all port links back to suspended (U3) state.

Fix this by increasing roothub usage count during port resume to prevent
roothub autosuspend, and by making sure bus_state->port_remote_wakeup
flag is only cleared after resume completion is visible, i.e.
after xhci roothub returned U0 or other non-U3 link state link on a
get port status request.

Xhci driver cannot call pci_set_power_state() on non-pci xhci host
controllers. For example, NVIDIA Tegra XHCI host controller which acts
as platform device with XHCI_SPURIOUS_WAKEUP quirk set in some platform

However in the current sequence, it happens opposite. Correct the phy

As Mathias pointed out, the hub enters Cold Attach Status state and
requires a warm reset. However usb_reset_device() bails out early when
the device is in suspended state, as its callers port_event() and
hub_event() don't always resume the device.
Since there's nothing wrong to reset a suspended device, allow
usb_reset_device() to do so to solve the issue.

Testing on different generations of Lantiq MIPS SoC based boards, showed
that it takes up to 1500 us until the core reset bit is cleared.
The driver from the vendor SDK (ifxhcd) uses a 1 second timeout. Use the
same timeout to fix wrong hang detections and make the driver work for
Lantiq MIPS SoCs.
At least till kernel 4.14 the hanging reset only caused a warning but
the driver was probed successful. With kernel 4.19 errors out with
EBUSY.

In case of a timeout or if a signal aborts a read
communication with the device needs to be ended
lest we overwrite an active URB the next time we
do IO to the device, as the URB may still be active.

Smatch reported that nents is not initialized and used in
stub_recv_cmd_submit(). nents is currently initialized by sgl_alloc()
and used to allocate multiple URBs when host controller doesn't
support scatter-gather DMA. The use of uninitialized nents means that
buf_len is zero and use_sg is true. But buffer length should not be
zero when an URB uses scatter-gather DMA.
To prevent this situation, add the conditional that checks buf_len
and use_sg. And move the use of nents right after the sgl_alloc() to
avoid the use of uninitialized nents.
If the error occurs, it adds SDEV_EVENT_ERROR_MALLOC and stub_priv
will be released by stub event handler and connection will be shut
down.

When disabling an endpoint which has cancelled requests, we should
make sure to giveback requests that are currently pending in the
cancelled list, otherwise we may fall into a situation where command
completion interrupt fires after endpoint has been disabled, therefore
causing a splat.

Endpoints with a maxpacket length of 0 are probably useless. They
can't transfer any data, and it's not at all unlikely that a UDC will
crash or hang when trying to handle a non-zero-length usb_request for
such an endpoint. Indeed, dummy-hcd gets a divide error when trying
to calculate the remainder of a transfer length by the maxpacket
value, as discovered by the syzbot fuzzer.
Currently the gadget core does not check for endpoints having a
maxpacket value of 0. This patch adds a check to usb_ep_enable(),
preventing such endpoints from being used.
As far as I know, none of the gadget drivers in the kernel tries to
create an endpoint with maxpacket = 0, but until now there has been
nothing to prevent userspace programs under gadgetfs or configfs from
doing it.

Commit 3ae62a4209 ("UAS: fix alignment of scatter/gather segments"),
copying a similar commit for usb-storage, attempted to solve a problem
involving scatter-gather I/O and USB/IP by setting the
virt_boundary_mask for mass-storage devices.
However, it now turns out that the analogous change in usb-storage
interacted badly with commit 09324d32d2 ("block: force an unlimited
segment size on queues with a virt boundary"), which was added later.
A typical error message is:
ehci-pci 0000:00:13.2: swiotlb buffer is full (sz: 327680 bytes),
total 32768 (slots), used 97 (slots)
There is no longer any reason to keep the virt_boundary_mask setting
in the uas driver. It was needed in the first place only for
handling devices with a block size smaller than the maxpacket size and
where the host controller was not capable of fully general
scatter-gather operation (that is, able to merge two SG segments into
a single USB packet). But:
High-speed or slower connections never use a bulk maxpacket
value larger than 512;
The SCSI layer does not handle block devices with a block size
smaller than 512 bytes;
All the host controllers capable of SuperSpeed operation can
handle fully general SG;
Since commit ea44d19076 ("usbip: Implement SG support to
vhci-hcd and stub driver") was merged, the USB/IP driver can
also handle SG.
Therefore all supported device/controller combinations should be okay
with no need for any special virt_boundary_mask. So in order to head
off potential problems similar to those affecting usb-storage, this
patch reverts commit 3ae62a4209.

iso_buffer should be set to NULL after use and free in the while loop.
In the case of isochronous URB in the while loop, iso_buffer is
allocated and after sending it to server, buffer is deallocated. And
then, if the next URB in the while loop is not a isochronous pipe,
iso_buffer still holds the previously deallocated buffer address and
kfree tries to free wrong buffer address.

The arguments to queue_trb are always byteswapped to LE for placement in
the ring, but this should not happen in the case of immediate data; the
bytes copied out of transfer_buffer are already in the correct order.
Add a complementary byteswap so the bytes end up in the ring correctly.
This was observed on BE ppc64 with a "Texas Instruments TUSB73x0
SuperSpeed USB 3.0 xHCI Host Controller [104c:8241]" as a ch341
usb-serial adapter ("1a86:7523 QinHeng Electronics HL-340 USB-Serial
adapter") always transmitting the same character (generally NUL) over
the serial link regardless of the key pressed.

commit ef513be0a9 ("usb: xhci: Add Clear_TT_Buffer") schedules work
to clear TT buffer, but causes a use-after-free regression at the same time
Make sure hub_tt_work finishes before endpoint is disabled, otherwise
the work will dereference already freed endpoint and device related
pointers.
This was triggered when usb core failed to read the configuration
descriptor of a FS/LS device during enumeration.
xhci driver queued clear_tt_work while usb core freed and reallocated
a new device for the next enumeration attempt.
EHCI driver implents ehci_endpoint_disable() that makes sure
clear_tt_work has finished before it returns, but xhci lacks this support.
usb core will call hcd->driver->endpoint_disable() callback before
disabling endpoints, so we want this in xhci as well.
The added xhci_endpoint_disable() is based on ehci_endpoint_disable()

A recent info-leak bug manifested itself along with warning about a
negative buffer overflow:
ldusb 1-1:0.28: Read buffer overflow, -131383859965943 bytes dropped
when it was really a rather large positive one.
A sanity check that prevents this has now been put in place, but let's
fix up the size format specifiers, which should all be unsigned.

The custom ring-buffer implementation was merged without any locking or
explicit memory barriers, but a spinlock was later added by commit
9d33efd9a7 ("USB: ldusb bugfix").
The lock did not cover the update of the tail index once the entry had
been processed, something which could lead to memory corruption on
weakly ordered architectures or due to compiler optimisations.
Specifically, a completion handler running on another CPU might observe
the incremented tail index and update the entry before ld_usb_read() is
done with it.

crash or hang when trying to handle an URB for such an endpoint.
Currently the USB core does not check for endpoints having a maxpacket
value of 0. This patch adds a check, printing a warning and skipping
over any endpoints it catches.
Now, the USB spec does not rule out endpoints having maxpacket = 0.
But since they wouldn't have any practical use, there doesn't seem to
be any good reason for us to accept them.

The USB gadget core is supposed to manage pullups
of the controller. Don't manage pullups from within
the controller driver. Otherwise, function drivers
are not able to keep the controller disconnected from
the bus till they are ready. (e.g. g_webcam)

layerscape board sometimes reported some usb call trace, that is due to
kernel sent LPM tokerns automatically when it has no pending transfers
and think that the link is idle enough to enter L1, which procedure will
ask usb register has a recovery,then kernel will compare USBx_GFLADJ and
set GFLADJ_30MHZ, GFLADJ_30MHZ_REG until GFLADJ_30MHZ is equal 0x20, if
the conditions were met then issue occur, but whatever the conditions
whether were met that usb is all need keep GFLADJ_30MHZ of value is 0x20
(xhci spec ask use GFLADJ_30MHZ to adjust any offset from clock source
that generates the clock that drives the SOF counter, 0x20 is default
value of it)That is normal logic, so need remove the call trace.

In dwc3_pci_probe a call to platform_device_alloc allocates a device
which is correctly put in case of error except one case: when the call to
platform_device_add_properties fails it directly returns instead of
going to error handling. This commit replaces return with the goto.

composite_dev_cleanup call from the failure of configfs_composite_bind
frees up the cdev->os_desc_req and cdev->req. If the previous calls of
bind and unbind is successful these will carry stale values.
Consider the below sequence of function calls:
configfs_composite_bind()
composite_dev_prepare()
- Allocate cdev->req, cdev->req->buf
composite_os_desc_req_prepare()
- Allocate cdev->os_desc_req, cdev->os_desc_req->buf
configfs_composite_unbind()
composite_dev_cleanup()
- free the cdev->os_desc_req->buf and cdev->req->buf

- If it fails goto err_comp_cleanup will call the
composite_dev_cleanup() function

- calls kfree up with the stale values of cdev->req->buf and
cdev->os_desc_req from the previous configfs_composite_bind
call. The free call on these stale values leads to double free.
Hence, Fix this issue by setting request and buffer pointer to NULL after
kfree.

Fix broken read implementation, which could be used to trigger slab info
leaks.
The driver failed to check if the custom ring buffer was still empty
when waking up after having waited for more data. This would happen on
every interrupt-in completion, even if no data had been added to the
ring buffer (e.g. on disconnect events).
Due to missing sanity checks and uninitialised (kmalloced) ring-buffer
entries, this meant that huge slab info leaks could easily be triggered.
Note that the empty-buffer check after wakeup is enough to fix the info
leak on disconnect, but let's clear the buffer on allocation and add a
sanity check to read() to prevent further leaks.

It seems that the right variable to use in this case is *i*, instead of
*n*, otherwise there is an undefined behavior when right shifiting by more
than 31 bits when multiplying n by 8; notice that *n* can take values
equal or greater than 4 (4, 8, 16, ...).
Also, notice that under the current conditions (bl = 3), we are skiping
the handling of bytes 3, 7, 31... So, fix this by updating this logic
and limit *bl* up to 4 instead of up to 3.
This fix is based on function udc_stuff_fifo().

Dequeuing implementation in cdns3_gadget_ep_dequeue gets first request from
deferred_req_list and changed TRB associated with it to LINK TRB.
This approach is incorrect because deferred_req_list contains requests
that have not been placed on hardware RING. In this case driver should
just giveback this request to gadget driver.
The patch implements new approach that first checks where dequeuing
request is located and only when it's on Transfer Ring then changes TRB
associated with it to LINK TRB.
During processing completed transfers such LINK TRB will be ignored.

The driver was using its struct usb_interface pointer as an inverted
disconnected flag, but was setting it to NULL without making sure all
code paths that used it were done with it.
Before commit ef61eb43ad ("USB: yurex: Fix protection fault after
device removal") this included the interrupt-in completion handler, but
there are further accesses in dev_err and dev_dbg statements in
yurex_write() and the driver-data destructor (sic!).
Fix this by unconditionally stopping also the control URB at disconnect
and by using a dedicated disconnected flag.
Note that we need to take a reference to the struct usb_interface to
avoid a use-after-free in the destructor whenever the device was
disconnected while the character device was still open.

Drop the redundant disconnect mutex which was introduced after the
open-disconnect race had been addressed generally in USB core by commit
d4ead16f50 ("USB: prevent char device open/deregister race").
Specifically, the rw-semaphore in core guarantees that all calls to
open() will have completed and that no new calls to open() will occur
after usb_deregister_dev() returns. Hence there is no need use the
driver data as an inverted disconnected flag.

A recent fix addressing a deadlock on disconnect introduced a new bug
by moving the present flag out of the critical section protected by the
driver-data mutex. This could lead to a racing release() freeing the
driver data before disconnect() is done with it.
Due to insufficient locking a related use-after-free could be triggered
also before the above mentioned commit. Specifically, the driver needs
to hold the driver-data mutex also while checking the opened flag at
disconnect().

disconnect callback returns.

This patch restores the correct DMA mask after switching back to device
mode.
The issue occurred because Device part of controller use 32 bits DMA and
Host side use 64 bits DMA. During loading XHCI driver the DMA mask
used by driver is overwritten by XHCI driver so it must be restored
to 32 bits.

At startup we should trigger the HW state machine
only if it is OTG mode. Otherwise we should just
start the respective role.
Initialize idle role by default. If we don't do this then
cdns3_idle_role_stop() is not called when switching to
host/device role and so lane switch mechanism
doesn't work. This results to super-speed device not working
in one orientation if it was plugged before driver probe.

Patch fixes issue with Halt Endnpoint Test observed during using g_zero

Endpoint can defer transition to Halted state if endpoint has pending
requests.

The dwc3 code to get the "peripheral" / "host" / "otg" IRQ first tries
platform_get_irq_byname() and then falls back to the IRQ at index 0 if
the platform_get_irq_byname().
In this case we do not want platform_get_irq_byname() to print an error
on failure, so switch to platform_get_irq_byname_optional() instead which
does not print an error.

According to usb_ep_set_halt()'s description,
__usbhsg_ep_set_halt_wedge() should return -EAGAIN if the IN endpoint
has any queue or data. Otherwise, this driver is possible to cause

The commit 97664a207b ("usb: renesas_usbhs: shrink spin lock area")
had added a usbhsg_pipe_disable() calling into
__usbhsg_ep_set_halt_wedge() accidentally. But, this driver should
not call the usbhsg_pipe_disable() because the function discards
all queues. So, this patch removes it.

udev stored in ep->hcpriv might be NULL if tt buffer is cleared
due to a halted control endpoint during device enumeration
xhci_clear_tt_buffer_complete is called by hub_tt_work() once it's
scheduled, and by then usb core might have freed and allocated a
new udev for the next enumeration attempt.

After commit f7fac17ca9 ("xhci: Convert xhci_handshake() to use
readl_poll_timeout_atomic()"), ASMedia xHCI may fail to suspend.
Although the algorithms are essentially the same, the old max timeout is
(usec + usec * time of doing readl()), and the new max timeout is just
usec, which is much less than the old one.
Increase the timeout to make ASMedia xHCI able to suspend again.

The system can hit a deadlock if an xhci adapter breaks while initializing.
The deadlock is between two threads: thread 1 is tearing down the
adapter and is stuck in usb_unlocked_disable_lpm waiting to lock the
hcd->handwidth_mutex. Thread 2 is holding this mutex (while still trying
to add a usb device), but is stuck in xhci_endpoint_reset waiting for a
stop or config command to complete. A reboot is required to resolve.
It turns out when calling xhci_queue_stop_endpoint and
xhci_queue_configure_endpoint in xhci_endpoint_reset, the return code is
not checked for errors. If the timing is right and the adapter dies just
before either of these commands get issued, we hang indefinitely waiting
for a completion on a command that didn't get issued.
This wasn't a problem before the following fix because we didn't send
commands in xhci_endpoint_reset:

With the patch I am submitting, a duration test which breaks adapters
during initialization (and which deadlocks with the standard kernel) runs
without issue.

NVIDIA 3.1 xHCI card would lose power when moving power state into D3Cold.
Thus we need to wait for CNR bit to clear in xhci resume, just as in
xhci init.

Early xHCI 1.1 spec did not mention USB 3.1 capable hosts should set
sbrn to 0x31, or that the minor revision is a two digit BCD
containing minor and sub-minor numbers.
This was later clarified in xHCI 1.2.
Some USB 3.1 capable hosts therefore have sbrn set to 0x30, or minor
revision set to 0x1 instead of 0x10.
Detect the USB 3.1 capability correctly for these hosts as well

If an endpoint is encountered that returns USB3_LPM_DEVICE_INITIATED, keep
checking further endpoints, as there might be periodic endpoints later
that return USB3_LPM_DISABLED due to shorter service intervals.
Without this, the code can set too high a maximum-exit-latency and
prevent the use of multiple USB3 cameras that should be able to work.

If host/hub initiated link pm is prevented by a driver flag we still must
ensure that periodic endpoints have longer service intervals than link pm
exit latency before allowing device initiated link pm.
Fix this by continue walking and checking endpoint service interval if
xhci_get_timeout_no_hub_lpm() returns anything else than USB3_LPM_DISABLED
While at it fix the split line error message

The check printing out the "WARN Wrong bounce buffer write length:"
uses incorrect values when comparing bytes written from scatterlist
to bounce buffer. Actual copied lengths are fine.
The used seg->bounce_len will be set to equal new_buf_len a few lines later
in the code, but is incorrect when doing the comparison.
The patch which added this false warning was backported to 4.8+ kernels
so this should be backported as far as well.

The driver would return with a nonzero open count in case the reset
control request failed. This would prevent any further attempts to open
the char dev until the device was disconnected.

The driver is using its struct usb_device pointer as an inverted
disconnected flag, but was setting it to NULL before making sure all
completion handlers had run. This could lead to a NULL-pointer
dereference in a number of dev_dbg and dev_err statements in the
completion handlers which relies on said pointer.
Fix this by unconditionally stopping all I/O and preventing
resubmissions by poisoning the interrupt URBs at disconnect and using a
dedicated disconnected flag.
This also makes sure that all I/O has completed by the time the
disconnect callback returns.

Fix a potential deadlock if disconnect races with open.
Since commit d4ead16f50 ("USB: prevent char device open/deregister
race") core holds an rw-semaphore while open is called and when
releasing the minor number during deregistration. This can lead to an
ABBA deadlock if a driver takes a lock in open which it also holds
during deregistration.
This effectively reverts commit 78663ecc34 ("USB: disconnect open race
in legousbtower") which needlessly introduced this issue after a generic
fix for this race had been added to core by commit d4ead16f50 ("USB:
prevent char device open/deregister race").

The "run_isr" flag is used for preventing the driver from
calling the interrupt service routine in its runtime resume
callback when the driver is expecting completion to a
command, but what that basically does is that it hides the
real problem. The real problem is that the controller is
allowed to suspend in the middle of command execution.
As a more appropriate fix for the problem, using autosuspend
delay time that matches UCSI_TIMEOUT_MS (5s). That prevents
the controller from suspending while still in the middle of
executing a command.
This fixes a potential deadlock. Both ccg_read() and
ccg_write() are called with the mutex already taken at least
from ccg_send_command(). In ccg_read() and ccg_write, the
mutex is only acquired so that run_isr flag can be set.

Drop the redundant disconnect mutex which was introduced after the
open-disconnect race had been addressed generally in USB core by commit
d4ead16f50 ("USB: prevent char device open/deregister race").
Specifically, the rw-semaphore in core guarantees that all calls to
open() will have completed and that no new calls to open() will occur
after usb_deregister_dev() returns. Hence there is no need use the
driver data as an inverted disconnected flag.

which is used to prevent new I/O from being started and by stopping all
ongoing I/O before returning.

The power budget for SuperSpeed mode should be 900 mA
according to USB specification, so set the power budget
to 900mA for dummy_start_ss which is only used for
SuperSpeed mode.
If the max power consumption of SuperSpeed device is
larger than 500 mA, insufficient available bus power
error happens in usb_choose_configuration function
when the device connects to dummy hcd.

According to Greg KH, it has been generally agreed that when a USB
driver encounters an unknown error (or one it can't handle directly),
it should just give up instead of going into a potentially infinite
retry loop.
The three codes -EPROTO, -EILSEQ, and -ETIME fall into this category.
They can be caused by bus errors such as packet loss or corruption,
attempting to communicate with a disconnected device, or by malicious
firmware. Nowadays the extent of packet loss or corruption is
negligible, so it should be safe for a driver to give up whenever one
of these errors occurs.
Although the yurex driver handles -EILSEQ errors in this way, it
doesn't do the same for -EPROTO (as discovered by the syzbot fuzzer)
or other unrecognized errors. This patch adjusts the driver so that
it doesn't log an error message for -EPROTO or -ETIME, and it doesn't
retry after any errors.

The driver was clearing its struct usb_device pointer, which it used as
an inverted disconnected flag, before deregistering the character device
and without serialising against racing release().
This could lead to a use-after-free if a racing release() callback
observes the cleared pointer and frees the driver data before
disconnect() is finished with it.
This could also lead to NULL-pointer dereferences in a racing open().

Fix NULL-pointer dereferences on open() and write() which can be
triggered by a malicious USB device.
The current URB allocation helper would fail to initialise the newly

The Rio500 kernel driver has not been used by Rio500 owners since 2001
not long after the rio500 project added support for a user-space USB stack
through the very first versions of usbdevfs and then libusb.
Support for the kernel driver was removed from the upstream utilities
in 2008:

Convert the functionfs filesystem to the new internal mount API as the old
one will be obsoleted and removed. This allows greater flexibility in
communication of mount parameters between userspace, the VFS and the

Here is the big set of USB patches for 5.4-rc1.
Two major chunks of code are moving out of the tree and into the staging
directory, uwb and wusb (wireless USB support), because there are no
devices that actually use this protocol anymore, and what we have today
probably doesn't work at all given that the maintainers left many many
years ago. So move it to staging where it will be removed in a few
releases if no one screams.
Other than that, lots of little things. The usual gadget and xhci and
usb serial driver updates, along with a bunch of sysfs file cleanups due
to the driver core changes to support that. Nothing really major, just
constant forward progress.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

platforms based on the XScale and ARM9 CPU cores, which are between 10
and 20 years old.
The Kendin/Micrel/Microchip KS8695, Winbond/Nuvoton W90x900 and Intel
IOP33x/IOP13xx platforms are removed after we determined that nobody is
using them any more.
The TI Davinci and NXP LPC32xx platforms on the other hand are still in
active use and are converted to the ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM build, meaning
that we can compile a kernel that works on these along with most other
ARMv5 platforms. Changes toward that goal are also merged for IOP32x,
but additional work is needed to complete this. Patches for the
remaining ARMv5 platforms have started but need more work and some
testing.
Support for the new ASpeed AST2600 gets added, this is based on the
Cortex-A7 ARMv7 core, and is a newer version of the existing ARMv5 and
ARMv6 chips in the same family.
Other changes include a cleanup of the ST-Ericsson ux500 platform
and the move of the TI Davinci platform to a new clocksource driver.

Modules using these symbols are required to explicitly import the
namespace. This patch was generated with the following steps and serves
as a reference to use the symbol namespace feature:
1) Define DEFAULT_SYMBOL_NAMESPACE in the corresponding Makefile
2) make (see warnings during modpost about missing imports)
3) make nsdeps
Instead of a DEFAULT_SYMBOL_NAMESPACE definition, the EXPORT_SYMBOL_NS
variants can be used to explicitly specify the namespace. The advantage
of the method used here is that newly added symbols are automatically
exported and existing ones are exported without touching their
respective EXPORT_SYMBOL macro expansion.

The error occurs when the descriptors_changed() routine (called during
a device reset) attempts to compare the old and new BOS and capability
descriptors. The length it uses for the comparison is the
wTotalLength value stored in BOS descriptor, but this value is not
necessarily the same as the length actually allocated for the
descriptors. If it is larger the routine will call memcmp() with a
length that is too big, thus reading beyond the end of the allocated
region and leading to this fault.
The kernel reads the BOS descriptor twice: first to get the total
length of all the capability descriptors, and second to read it along
with all those other descriptors. A malicious (or very faulty) device
may send different values for the BOS descriptor fields each time.
The memory area will be allocated using the wTotalLength value read
the first time, but stored within it will be the value read the second
time.
To prevent this possibility from causing any errors, this patch
modifies the BOS descriptor after it has been read the second time:
It sets the wTotalLength field to the actual length of the descriptors
that were read in and validated. Then the memcpy() call, or any other
code using these descriptors, will be able to rely on wTotalLength
being valid.

The problem is that the driver's open_rio() routine is called while
the usbcore's minor_rwsem is locked for reading, and it acquires the
rio500_mutex; whereas conversely, probe_rio() and disconnect_rio()
first acquire the rio500_mutex and then call usb_register_dev() or
usb_deregister_dev(), which lock minor_rwsem for writing.
The correct ordering of acquisition should be: minor_rwsem first, then
rio500_mutex (since the locking in open_rio() cannot be changed).
Thus, the probe and disconnect routines should avoid holding
rio500_mutex while doing their registration and deregistration.
This patch adjusts the code in those two routines to do just that. It
also relies on the fact that the probe and disconnect routines are
protected by the device mutex, so the initial test of rio->present
needs no extra locking.

Due to the requirement of usb-connector.txt binding, the old way
using extcon to support USB Dual-Role switch is now deprecated
when use Type-B connector.
This patch introduces a USB GPIO based connection detection driver,
used to support Type-B connector which typically uses an input GPIO
to detect USB ID pin, and try to replace the function provided
by the extcon-usb-gpio driver

There are bugs on vhci with usb 3.0 storage device. In USB, each SG
list entry buffer should be divisible by the bulk max packet size.
But with native SG support, this problem doesn't matter because the
SG buffer is treated as contiguous buffer. But without native SG
support, USB storage driver breaks SG list into several URBs and the
error occurs because of a buffer size of URB that cannot be divided
by the bulk max packet size. The error situation is as follows.
When USB Storage driver requests 31.5 KB data and has SG list which
has 3584 bytes buffer followed by 7 4096 bytes buffer for some
reason. USB Storage driver splits this SG list into several URBs
because VHCI doesn't support SG and sends them separately. So the
first URB buffer size is 3584 bytes. When receiving data from device,
USB 3.0 device sends data packet of 1024 bytes size because the max
packet size of BULK pipe is 1024 bytes. So device sends 4096 bytes.
But the first URB buffer has only 3584 bytes buffer size. So host
controller terminates the transfer even though there is more data to
receive. So, vhci needs to support SG transfer to prevent this error.
In this patch, vhci supports SG regardless of whether the server's
host controller supports SG or not, because stub driver splits SG
list into several URBs if the server's host controller doesn't
support SG.
To support SG, vhci sets URB_DMA_MAP_SG flag in urb->transfer_flags
if URB has SG list and this flag will tell stub driver to use SG
list. After receiving urb from stub driver, vhci clear URB_DMA_MAP_SG
flag to avoid unnecessary DMA unmapping in HCD.
vhci sends each SG list entry to stub driver. Then, stub driver sees
the total length of the buffer and allocates SG table and pages
according to the total buffer length calling sgl_alloc(). After stub
driver receives completed URB, it again sends each SG list entry to
vhci.
If the server's host controller doesn't support SG, stub driver
breaks a single SG request into several URBs and submits them to
the server's host controller. When all the split URBs are completed,
stub driver reassembles the URBs into a single return command and
sends it to vhci.
Moreover, in the situation where vhci supports SG, but stub driver
does not, or vice versa, usbip works normally. Because there is no
protocol modification, there is no problem in communication between
server and client even if the one has a kernel without SG support.
In the case of vhci supports SG and stub driver doesn't, because
vhci sends only the total length of the buffer to stub driver as
it did before the patch applied, stub driver only needs to allocate
the required length of buffers using only kmalloc() regardless of
whether vhci supports SG or not. But stub driver has to allocate
buffer with kmalloc() as much as the total length of SG buffer which
is quite huge when vhci sends SG request, so it has overhead in
buffer allocation in this situation.
If stub driver needs to send data buffer to vhci because of IN pipe,
stub driver also sends only total length of buffer as metadata and
then sends real data as vhci does. Then vhci receive data from stub
driver and store it to the corresponding buffer of SG list entry.
And for the case of stub driver supports SG and vhci doesn't, since
the USB storage driver checks that vhci doesn't support SG and sends
the request to stub driver by splitting the SG list into multiple
URBs, stub driver allocates a buffer for each URB with kmalloc() as
it did before this patch.
* Test environment
Test uses two difference machines and two different kernel version
to make mismatch situation between the client and the server where
vhci supports SG, but stub driver does not, or vice versa. All tests
are conducted in both full SG support that both vhci and stub support
SG and half SG support that is the mismatch situation. Test kernel
version is 5.3-rc6 with commit "usb: add a HCD_DMA flag instead of
guestimating DMA capabilities" to avoid unnecessary DMA mapping and
unmapping.

Enable static DRD mode in Intel platforms which guarantees
successful role switch all the time. This fixes issues like
software role switch failure after cold boot and issue with
role switch when USB 3.0 cable is used. But, do not enable
static DRD mode for Cherrytrail devices which rely on firmware
for role switch.

Calls to USB2 generic PHY calibrate() method has been moved to HCD core,
which now successfully handles generic PHYs and their calibration after
every HCD reset. This fixes all the timing issues related to PHY
calibration done directly from DWC3 driver: incorrect operation after
system suspend/resume or USB3.0 detection failure when XHCI-plat driver
compiled as separate module.

Some PHYs (for example Exynos5 USB3.0 DRD PHY) require calibration to be
done after every USB HCD reset. Generic PHY framework has been already
extended with phy_calibrate() function in commit 36914111e6 ("drivers:
phy: add calibrate method"). This patch adds support for it to generic
PHY handling code in USB HCD core.

Xhci re-enables a slot on transaction error in set_address using
xhci_disable_slot() + xhci_alloc_dev().
But in this case, xhci_alloc_dev() creates debugfs entries upon an
existing device without cleaning up old entries, thus memory leaks.
So this patch simply moves calling xhci_debugfs_free_dev() from
xhci_free_dev() to xhci_disable_slot().

If the 'kmalloc()' fails, we need to undo the previous
'dbc_alloc_request()' call.
Because of the more similar function name, it is more logical to use
'dbc_free_request()' instead of 'xhci_dbc_free_req()'.

Currently the check on a non-zero return code in ret is false because
ret has been initialized to zero. I believe that ret should be assigned
to the return from the call to readl_poll_timeout_atomic before the
check on ret. Since ret is being re-assinged the original initialization
of ret to zero can be removed.

The errata description is:
Workaround for Default Duration of LFPS Handshake Signaling for
Device-Initiated U1 Exit is too short.
The default duration of the LFPS handshake generated by USB3380 for a device-initiated U1-exit may not be
long enough for certain SuperSpeed downstream ports (SuperSpeed hubs/hosts) to recognize. This could lead
to USB3380 entering the recovery state pre-maturely and ending up in the SS.Inactive state.
I have observed various enumeration failures, seemingly related to
lost transactions or SETUP status phases on modern hosts (typically
thunderbolt capable systems) without this workaround.

The split into multiple structures of the "ll" register bank is
impractical. It makes it hard to add ll_lfps_timers_2 which is
at offset 0x794, which is outside of the existing "lfps" structure
and would require us to add yet another one.
Instead, move all the "ll" registers into a single usb338x_ll_regs
structure, and add ll_lfps_timers_2 while at it. It will be used
in a subsequent patch.

While testing our host system using Microsoft's usb stack against our
gadget for various BESL values, we found an issue with their usb stack
when the recommended baseline BESL value is 0 (125us) or when the deep
BESL is 1 or less. The Windows host will issue a usb reset immediately
after it receives the extended BOS descriptor and the enumeration will
fail after a few attempts.
To keep compatibility with Microsoft's host usb stack, let's workaround
this issue by using the recommended baseline BESL of 1 (or 150us)
and clamp the deep BESL value within 2 to 15.
This was tested against Windows 10 build 18956.

Controller for OUT endpoints has shared on-chip buffers for all incoming
packets, including ep0out. It's FIFO buffer, so packets must be handled
by DMA in correct order. If the first packet in the buffer will not be
handled, then the following packets directed for other endpoints and
functions will be blocked.
Additionally the packets directed to one endpoint can block entire on-chip
buffers. In this case transfer to other endpoints also will blocked.
To resolve this issue after raising the descriptor missing interrupt
driver prepares internal usb_request object and use it to arm DMA
transfer.
The problematic situation was observed in case when endpoint has
been enabled but no usb_request were queued. Driver try detects
such endpoints and will use this workaround only for these endpoint.
Driver use limited number of buffer. This number can be set by macro
CDNS_WA2_NUM_BUFFERS.
Such blocking situation was observed on ACM gadget. For this function
host send OUT data packet but ACM function is not prepared for
this packet. It's cause that buffer placed in on chip memory block
transfer to other endpoints.
Issue has been fixed for DEV_VER_V2 version of controller.

This patch introduce new Cadence USBSS DRD driver to Linux kernel.
The Cadence USBSS DRD Controller is a highly configurable IP Core which
can be instantiated as Dual-Role Device (DRD), Peripheral Only and
Host Only (XHCI)configurations.
The current driver has been validated with FPGA platform. We have
support for PCIe bus, which is used on FPGA prototyping.
The host side of USBSS-DRD controller is compliant with XHCI
specification, so it works with standard XHCI Linux driver.

In case of a disconnect an ongoing flush() has to be made fail.
Nevertheless we cannot be sure that any pending URB has already
finished, so although they will never succeed, they still must
not be touched.
The clean solution for this is to check for WDM_IN_USE
and WDM_DISCONNECTED in flush(). There is no point in ever
clearing WDM_IN_USE, as no further writes make sense.
The issue is as old as the driver.

The Falcon microcontroller that runs the XUSB firmware and which is
responsible for exposing the XHCI interface can address only 40 bits of
memory. Typically that's not a problem because Tegra devices don't have
enough system memory to exceed those 40 bits.
However, if the ARM SMMU is enable on Tegra186 and later, the addresses
passed to the XUSB controller can be anywhere in the 48-bit IOV address
space of the ARM SMMU. Since the DMA/IOMMU API starts allocating from
the top of the IOVA space, the Falcon microcontroller is not able to
load the firmware successfully.
Fix this by setting the DMA mask to 40 bits, which will force the DMA
API to map the buffer for the firmware to an IOVA that is addressable by
the Falcon.

Auto-delink requires writing special registers to ums-realtek devices.
Unconditionally enable auto-delink may break newer devices.
So only enable auto-delink by default for the original three IDs,
0x0138, 0x0158 and 0x0159.
Realtek is working on a patch to properly support auto-delink for other
IDs.

OHCI_RH_HALTED. In other hand, ohci_irq() is possible to enable
OHCI_INTR_SF and OHCI_INTR_MIE on ohci_irq(). Note that OHCI_INTR_SF
is possible to be set by start_ed_unlink() which is called:

the patch makes a new function as _ohci_shutdown().

Using managed device resources in usb_hcd_pci_probe() allows devm usage for
resource subranges, such as the mmio resource for the platform device
created to control host/device mode mux, which is a xhci extended
capability, and sits inside the xhci mmio region.
If managed device resources are not used then "parent" resource
is released before subrange at driver removal as .remove callback is
called before the devres list of resources for this device is walked
and released.
This has been observed with the xhci extended capability driver causing a
use-after-free which is now fixed.
An additional nice benefit is that error handling on driver initialisation
is simplified much.

Enable support for cbus gpios on FT232H. The cbus configuration is
stored in two words in the EEPROM at byte-offset 0x1a with the mux
config for ACBUS5, ACBUS6, ACBUS8 and ACBUS9 (only pins that can be
configured as I/O mode).
Tested using FT232H by configuring one ACBUS pin at a time.

Set the recommended BESL deep and baseline values based on the gadget's
configuration parameters to the extended BOS descriptor. This feature
helps to optimize power savings by maximizing the opportunity for longer
L1 residency time.

When operating with LPM signals, the controller asserts the deep
low-power signal (utmi_l1_suspend_n) to the phy when the BESL value of
the LPM token is equal to or greater than DCTL.HIRD_Thres[3:0] (and
with DCTL.HIRD_Thres[4] set). Otherwise, the shallow low-power signal
(utmi_sleep_n) is asserted. Set the recommended deep BESL equal to the
controller's DCTL.HIRD_Thres[3:0] setting, and set the baseline BESL
to 0 for the shallow low-power signal. This maximizes the opportunity
for L1 residency and optimizes power savings.

Static structure fsl_otg_initdata, of type fsl_otg_config, is used only
once, when the value of its field otg_port is assigned to another
variable. As fsl_otg_initdata.otg_port is of type u8, any changes to
its copy do not affect the original, and fsl_otg_initdata itself is
never modified. Hence make fsl_otg_initdata constant to protect it from
unintended modification.

In function st_dwc3_probe, variable child_pdev takes the value returned
by of_find_device_by_node, which gets a device pointer but does not put
it. If child_pdev is not put before the probe function returns, it may
cause a reference leak. Hence put child_pdev after its last usage.

The local variable child in the function st_dwc3_probe takes the return
value of of_get_child_by_name, which gets a node and does not put it. If
the function returns without releasing child, this could cause a memory
error. Hence put child as soon as there is no more use for it. Also
create a new label, err_node_put, just before label undo_softreset; so
that err_node_put puts child. In between initialisation of child and its
first put, modify all statements that go to undo_softreset to now go to
err_node_put instead, from where they can fall through to
undo_softreset.

We don't yet support any of the OTG mechanisms (HNP/SRP/ADP)
and are not setting gadget->otg_caps, so don't set gadget->is_otg
flag.
If we do then we end up publishing a OTG1.0 descriptor in
the gadget descriptor which causes device enumeration to fail
if we are connected to a host with CONFIG_USB_OTG enabled.

usb port can be at host mode(USB_ROLE_HOST), device mode connected to

The primary purpose for this node will be to allow linking
the users of the switch to it. The users will be for example
USB Type-C connectors. By supplying a reference to this
node in the software nodes representing the USB Type-C
controllers or connectors, the drivers for those devices can
access the switch.

The usb core is the only major place in the kernel that checks for
a non-NULL device dma_mask to see if a device is DMA capable. This
is generally a bad idea, as all major busses always set up a DMA mask,
even if the device is not DMA capable - in fact bus layers like PCI
can't even know if a device is DMA capable at enumeration time. This
leads to lots of workaround in HCD drivers, and also prevented us from
setting up a DMA mask for platform devices by default last time we
tried.
Replace this guess with an explicit HCD_DMA that is set by drivers that
appear to have DMA support.

The code is supposed to clear the RH_A_NPS and RH_A_PSM bits, but it's
a no-op because of the & vs | typo. This bug predates git and it was
only discovered using static analysis so it must not affect too many
people in real life.

After _gadget_stop_activity is executed, we can consider the hardware
operation for gadget has finished, and the udc can be stopped and enter
low power mode. So, any later hardware operations (from usb_ep_ops APIs
or usb_gadget_ops APIs) should be considered invalid, any deinitializatons
has been covered at _gadget_stop_activity.
I meet this problem when I plug out usb cable from PC using mass_storage
gadget, my callstack like: vbus interrupt->.vbus_session->
composite_disconnect ->pm_runtime_put_sync(&_gadget->dev),
the composite_disconnect will call fsg_disable, but fsg_disable calls
usb_ep_disable using async way, there are register accesses for
usb_ep_disable. So sometimes, I get system hang due to visit register
without clock, sometimes not.
The Linux Kernel USB maintainer Alan Stern suggests this kinds of solution.

The driver hardcodes a hardware I/O address the way one should
generally not do, and this prevents both compile-testing, and
moving the platform to CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM.
Change the code to be independent of the machine headers
to allow those two. Removing the hardcoded address would
be hard and is not necessary, so leave that in place for now.

By registering a software fwnode for the port when the
firmware does not supply one, we can always provide tcpm the
connector capabilities by using the common USB connector
device properties instead of using tcpc_config platform data.

The USB buffer allocation code is the only place in the usb core (and in
fact the whole kernel) that uses is_device_dma_capable, while the URB
mapping code uses the uses_dma flag in struct usb_bus. Switch the buffer
allocation to use the uses_dma flag used by the rest of the USB code,
and create a helper in hcd.h that checks this flag as well as the
CONFIG_HAS_DMA to simplify the caller a bit.

On Motorola Mapphone devices such as Droid 4 there are five USB ports
that do not use the same layout as Gobi 1K/2K/etc devices listed in
qcserial.c. So we should use qcaux.c or option.c as noted by
Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com>.
As the Motorola USB serial ports have an interrupt endpoint as shown
with lsusb -v, we should use option.c instead of qcaux.c as pointed out
by Johan Hovold <johan@kernel.org>.
The ff/ff/ff interfaces seem to always be UARTs on Motorola devices.
For the other interfaces, class 0x0a (CDC Data) should not in general
be added as they are typically part of a multi-interface function as
noted earlier by Bjørn Mork <bjorn@mork.no>.
However, looking at the Motorola mapphone kernel code, the mdm6600 0x0a
class is only used for flashing the modem firmware, and there are no
other interfaces. So I've added that too with more details below as it
works just fine.
The ttyUSB ports on Droid 4 are:
ttyUSB0 DIAG, CQDM-capable
ttyUSB1 MUX or NMEA, no response
ttyUSB2 MUX or NMEA, no response
ttyUSB3 TCMD
ttyUSB4 AT-capable
The ttyUSB0 is detected as QCDM capable by ModemManager. I think
it's only used for debugging with ModemManager --debug for sending
custom AT commands though. ModemManager already can manage data
connection using the USB QMI ports that are already handled by the
qmi_wwan.c driver.
To enable the MUX or NMEA ports, it seems that something needs to be
done additionally to enable them, maybe via the DIAG or TCMD port.
It might be just a NVRAM setting somewhere, but I have no idea what
NVRAM settings may need changing for that.
The TCMD port seems to be a Motorola custom protocol for testing
the modem and to configure it's NVRAM and seems to work just fine
based on a quick test with a minimal tcmdrw tool I wrote.
The voice modem AT-capable port seems to provide only partial
support, and no PM support compared to the TS 27.010 based UART
wired directly to the modem.
The UARTs added with this change are the same product IDs as the
Motorola Mapphone Android Linux kernel mdm6600_id_table. I don't
have any mdm9600 based devices, so I have only tested these on
mdm6600 based droid 4.
Then for the class 0x0a (CDC Data) mode, the Motorola Mapphone Android
Linux kernel driver moto_flashqsc.c just seems to change the
port->bulk_out_size to 8K from the default. And is only used for
flashing the modem firmware it seems.
I've verified that flashing the modem with signed firmware works just
fine with the option driver after manually toggling the GPIO pins, so
I've added droid 4 modem flashing mode to the option driver. I've not
added the other devices listed in moto_flashqsc.c in case they really
need different port->bulk_out_size. Those can be added as they get
tested to work for flashing the modem.
After this patch the output of /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices has

as argument to printk. In order to be able to use the name

The syzbot fuzzer has found two (!) races in the USB character device
registration and deregistration routines. This patch fixes the races.
The first race results from the fact that usb_deregister_dev() sets
usb_minors[intf->minor] to NULL before calling device_destroy() on the
class device. This leaves a window during which another thread can
allocate the same minor number but will encounter a duplicate name
error when it tries to register its own class device. A typical error
message in the system log would look like:
sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/class/usbmisc/ldusb0'
The patch fixes this race by destroying the class device first.
The second race is in usb_register_dev(). When that routine runs, it
first allocates a minor number, then drops minor_rwsem, and then
creates the class device. If the device creation fails, the minor
number is deallocated and the whole routine returns an error. But
during the time while minor_rwsem was dropped, there is a window in
which the minor number is allocated and so another thread can
successfully open the device file. Typically this results in
use-after-free errors or invalid accesses when the other thread closes
its open file reference, because the kernel then tries to release
resources that were already deallocated when usb_register_dev()
failed. The patch fixes this race by keeping minor_rwsem locked
throughout the entire routine.

If fsg_disable() and fsg_set_alt() are called too closely to each
other (for example due to a quick reset/reconnect), what can happen
is that fsg_set_alt sets common->new_fsg from an interrupt while
handle_exception is trying to process the config change caused by
fsg_disable():
fsg_disable()
...
handle_exception()
sets state back to FSG_STATE_NORMAL
hasn't yet called do_set_interface()
or is inside it.

sets common->new_fsg
queues a new FSG_STATE_CONFIG_CHANGE

Now, the first handle_exception can "see" the updated
new_fsg, treats it as if it was a fsg_set_alt() response,
call usb_composite_setup_continue() etc...
But then, the thread sees the second FSG_STATE_CONFIG_CHANGE,
and goes back down the same path, wipes and reattaches a now
active fsg, and .. calls usb_composite_setup_continue() which
at this point is wrong.
Not only we get a backtrace, but I suspect the second set_interface
wrecks some state causing the host to get upset in my case.
This fixes it by replacing "new_fsg" by a "state argument" (same
principle) which is set in the same lock section as the state
update, and retrieved similarly.
That way, there is never any discrepancy between the dequeued
state and the observed value of it. We keep the ability to have
the latest reconfig operation take precedence, but we guarantee
that once "dequeued" the argument (new_fsg) will not be clobbered
by any new event.

In some cases, one can get out of suspend with a reset or
a disconnect followed by a reconnect. Previously we would
leave a stale suspended flag set.

Since the role_store() uses strncmp(), it's possible to refer
out-of-memory if the sysfs data size is smaller than strlen("host").
This patch fixes it by using sysfs_streq() instead of strncmp().
